HTC THUNDERBOLT GINGERBREAD UPDATE ISSUE

Moved for greater exposure

I was having the same issue and it was driving me crazy.
After investigating, here's what I found:
Battery management software was killing my connection when the screen turns off (I normally have the app aggressively managing power, since this phone tends to eat through battery life).
Disabling (force stop, in this case) the app stopped the manager from switching off the radio when the phone wasn't being used.
GB is currently installing.

  • Thunderbolt ICS Update Issues

Me, my wife and every other Thunderbolt user  I know (people from AZ to NY) through Verizon are having serious issues with this update. I have been through tier 2 Verizon support and multiple hard resets through the Verizon store with the final verdict from Verizon "The hardware on your phone cannot handle the update. You will need to upgrade your phone." NO! Verizon should not put an update out for a phone they sell that cannot handle the update. To me and many others this is just a way to force you to upgrade a phone that was working flawlessly. Up until now I have been very happy with Verizon but finding out that I cannot revert to the old operating system that worked perfectly we are done with Verizon. Keep in mind this is not an HTC problem. The Thunderbolt is an awesome phone. So today we are going to upgrade. Not with Verizon but with ATT to change carriers and see how they do. We have already found that the monthly service will be a bit less through ATT for the same service. I would not be surprised that there will be a class action law suit against Verizon over this if there is not already one. If I do find one I will be joining them.

"We have already found that the monthly service will be a bit less through ATT for the same service."
I have a natural resistance to shopping cell phone plans but VW's ever increasing cost for decreasing service got me over my potential energy barrier.  Like giles16 I found that I can actually get better features from that same provider and for $10/month less.   Verizon Wireless wants to knock me down from Unlimited to 2GB .  I know, I rarely use more than 1.5GB in a month so they tell me I should not care. But I do care!  Turn about is fair play Verizon.  Since I rarely use more than 1.5GB per month you should have no problem keeping me on my current plan instead of ticking me off.  I'm not going to be a sheep and just take what you offer.  I'll just have to vote with my feet and leave.
For $10/month less I'll get 5GB on my phone, and tethering included, and hotspot included and I'll get 3GB eachof my other two smartphones and I'll get more talk minutes than I ever use for my other two feature phones, and unlimited text too.
So less $, more data.  Oh yeah!  No $30 upgrade fee.  And the new phone I want is $100 less there than from VW.
Counting the days until all my phones are out of contract.  Then I'll be again.

  • HTC Thunderbolt--software update is a mess

I am so tired of this phone not working, not connecting to the internet, crashing applications, in general sucking battery and data.  They replaced my phone once with the same model, but forced another software update on me.  After sending the old phone back in the provided mailing materials, they STILL charged me $569 for an unreturned phone, plus 6 different reconnect fees, and mega-taxes on top of it.  After spending HOURS on the phone with support, HOURS in corporate stores, NO ONE will remedy this situation, give me a phone that works, or credit my bill for anything.  Apparently, Verizon doesn't need customers because it refuses to stand behind either its SERVICE or its PRODUCTS.  We have been Verizon customers for 20-Plus years, but it's about time to leave, I think.  Disgusted.

maybe it would help if A VERIZON EMPLOYEE would take a look at this and help SATISFY THERE CUSTOMERS.  You get customers by giving the people what they want, not taking it away.

  • Thunderbolt Gingerbread update - server unavailable??

My phone was downloading the firmware. I'm not positive if it finished downloading it or not - I checked and a window saying Server Down, or server unavailable (something similar) popped up.
Went to check for new update and it said nothing was available.

You may have software blocking update of the server may simply being hammered and simply is overloaded at this time...  You may have to wait but if you have a large amount of apps on the device and dont want to wait you could try hard resetting and then try and see if that works.

  • Gingerbread for HTC Thunderbolt

Hey guys, I hope ya all are enjoying your HTC Thunderbolt...
First thing first, I've made some few calls to both HTC and Thunderbolt and they kept pointing to each other. As in I was trying to say that Verizon would say "HTC is responsible for this" and HTC will say the same thing..
I know a lot of us would really want Gingerbread on Thunderbolt phones that we have in our hands and I want to ask one silly simple stupid question: When in hell will we get Gingerbread on our phones?
I thought about it a lot and think it's really ridiculously stupid that many another Android phones have received Gingerbread before Thunderbolt, not to mention those phones the ones that came out AFTER Thunderbolt...
So any helps or any comments, anything at all, would be greatly appreciated! Thanks guys!
Hope someone read this and reply soon thank you!

while i'm not that worried about it.....people have a right to want the most recent version of the OS...particularly when one of the BEST features (video calls) requires GB if you want to use Skype (which is the standard). we all got the first LTE device from verizon and i understood that we were more or less going to be a giant test case. however, it's been over 4 months now and they have had time to work everything out AND get GB ready to push. in my opinion, it's pretty lame. when you consider that the lifespan of their high end phones are now less than one year, it is a bit annoying that 4 months into this one they have still not updated it to GB. by the end of the year this phone will be old news and they likely won't even be supporting it. i wish they would focus on perfecting some more of what they offer instead of CONSTANTLY releasig new devices with issues. in a year and a half they released 7 (or more??) motorollas. i'm all for options and choices, but i'd rather see them keep up with updates instead of release a new phone every month.

  • Haven't received Gingerbread update on HTC Incredible

Is the Gingerbread rollout for HTC Incredible owners complete or still ongoing?
I keep reading about HTC Incredible owners having their update but I haven't had any update notice on my phone.
Anyone have an update on this?

    Hello forum members,
I am please to advise that the rollout of Gingerbread has started, again! lol. The rollout began on 10/25. Although I don't know how long it will take to complete, historically software updates takes about 7-14 days to finish wirelessly. Please understand that if there is an unforeseen issue with the rollout then we are available to assist on the forums as well as on Twitter. Congratulations to those who has already received the update successfully! I'm sure that you will enjoy the enhancements to the device that this software update provides!
    Thank you...
Update:  This response was referring to the HTC Thunderbolt.  Sorry for the confusion.  Thank you.

  • Gingerbread OS for HTC Thunderbolt available date?

Does anyone know when the Gingerbread OS for the HTC Thunderbolt will be available. My son has a Droid X and was able to update his DroidX with the new Gingerbread OS via OTA update.

I'm still patient. So far. Maybe I'll start wondering where the update is at on October 1st.
I'm still patient also, I have been able to put off the MR2 update.  Thought they were going to catch up with me when I was in KY last week.  I made a mistake and let the firmware download, however, I was able to defer the installation a couple of times and eventually got the reject box which I did.  The firmware is no longer in "about phone" so I am still happy with what I got.  Will be interesting to see what happens if/when TB gets GB.  I may not install it unless AZSALUKI gives me a good excuse to do so.

  • Gingerbread update - Bluetooth no longer working in car

I have seen people complaining about this issue on other forums - lots of phone models and car models are affected.  My bluetooth was wworking perfectly for hands-free calling prior to the Gingerbread update.  Bluetooth stopped working the day I received my Gingerbread update last week.  I've tried everything I can try.  Apparently there is no resolution to the issue yet.  Verizon tech support could not help - they told me to contact HTC.  HTC tech support had no clue.  I want to revert back to Froyo, but apparently that's not possible either.  I am VERY frustrated.  I loved Android, but bluetooth in my car is a very important feature for me.  Might be time for an iPhone...
If anyone has any solutions for this issue, please let me know.  By the way, I have read in other forums that a factory reset does not work - it keeps the same phone software.  It's something that changed in Gingerbread that is causing the problem.  I would love to get rid of Gingerbread.

    Smitty,
I don't have Gingerbread (yet, and I'm thinking that's a good thing at this point), but I've had the same problem with my DInc before with my 7 week old new car.  After an initial successful link-up and upload of my phone book, my phone wouldn't maintain a connection either.
Here's my suggestion for you, because It's my current work around to get my bluetooth connection to work:
    1) Unpair your car bluetooth and your phone so you can start from scratch
    2) Re-pair your DInc and your car
    3) When your phone connects to your car, you'll hopefully get a pop-up dialogue box on your phone asking to link to your phone book.  At this point, say no to the phone book link.  You *should* hopefully have a good bluetooth connection now, and you'll still have the ability to dial from your phone book.  If you don't get the pop-up, well...I'm out of ideas.  Sorry.
I don't know what capability that pop-up dialogue box on the phone supports, but it sure screws up my bluetooth connection in my car.

Thanks to all the community members for your input.
Hello Awhoward, adding to what Wildman stated, you would need to have the HTC Incredible device activated in order to have access to the update. This is because this update is available on our network and is the recommended method for obtaining a software update. Also, updates are pushed out to the phone when the become available. You can log into My Verizon under the account owner and do the equipment change to have the HTC Incredible device on the line that has the HTC Thunderbolt on it. Afterwards, please use this link to the instructions on how to complete the software update. If you want, you can change back over to the HTC Thunderbolt and activate the SIM Card. I hope this helps.

  • HELP! Two new HTC Thunderbolts & one screen has a purple tint!

So I just bought two HTC Thunderbolts, got them all set up and then realized that one has a purple tint!  I compared all the settings to the other phone and everything matched.
The color was like this before any 3rd party applications were downloaded & the phone is not rooted or altered in any way.
I've googled to try to find any calibration apps or if anyone else has this problem and have come out unsuccessful.  I know I can always perform a hard reset but wanted to see if there is any other alternate way to fix this issue.
Thanks in advance for any help!

Thanks for all the feed back!  Certainly is a strange issue for a brand new, out of the box phone.  I did in fact perform the master reset, went through the setup process, personalized the phone & long behold, the same issue.
Again, I compared the settings to the other Thunderbolt; Identical.  Tried different wallpapers, skins, themes and nothing has changed.
Went through and checked for SW update, there was a firmware update that I did start.  After it was completed, same issue.
I'm at a loss for what may be causing this.  I mean, it is bothersome that EVERYTHING on the screen has a purple tint...
I'm not 100% sure that this is a "warranty" issue?  Maybe it's something AraceliT_VZW can answer for me?
    Thanks for all the help!

  • Where's the HTC ThunderBolt Desktop Charger?????

How many owners are waiting on this accessory?  The HTC ThunderBolt Desktop Charger has battery charging capabilities.
    (Part#: HTC6400DTC)
It's been "Out of stock" since day 1, Verizon knows there are issues with the battery life, how about providing us a way to charge the device with the extended battery installed and a spare at the same time....Swapping batteries in and out is a pain and potentially damaging to the back covers.

Who are these "most people" ? And how are they using their device? ( "Awake" time and "actual usage" could vary greatly among those "most people" ). I see a lot of people jumping thru a lot of hoops to tweek away the core features touted on this phone to gain somewhat acceptable battery life. As far as I know Juice Defender is still beta (thanks but I'll wait on a finished, stable, relatively bugless release)  I get different battery discharge rate on different days with absolutely nothing to point my finger at as a definitive cause. I've had the extended battery since day 1 (I don't mind the extra size and it actually fits my hands better) Most of the time I can make it thru my day with battery to spare but there have been days where my phone has warned me to charge immediately <15%)/ I have no social networks syncing, weather on 1 hour update( Too much fast changing this time of year ), email on 2 hour and I'm smack dab in the middle of solid red 4G coverage. My take on 4G is if it requires turning on/off  to accommodate undersizing of the battery I've mitigated that by using the extended version.
The only charger capable of charging a Thunderbolt with the extended battery installed while also charging another battery (standard or extended) is HTC's. I don't want to add another charging device when 1 device will do. (I do also have a car charger)

  • HTC Thunderbolt: What the fudge?

Honestly Verizon—honestly? One day in March when I was on my way to the local Verizon Shoppe to buy an iPhone 4. I was looking around the store, intrigued by this new 4G LTE (which is the only thing I like about this phone) I started to talk to a salesmen about it who convinced me that this was "the phone to buy". Now after owning this phone for about 2 months now I can confidently say that having a HTC thunderbolt; proclaimed flagship 4G phone of Verizon wireless is worse than owning a dog with down's syndrome.
Now besides how thick and heavy this phone is there are just so many issues with it, the kick stand is rotting away, the battery life is lower than a limbo stick for mice, the screen is absolute crap and considering that it is an HTC sense phone we should have things like HTCsense.com at out disposal but no--big red decided to take the "Oh we could have good features that will make out customers happy but I'd rather just leave them out" rout. Who knew that someone could feel so much hatred for plastic? But what recently tipped the turtle on it's back was that my 4G/3G/1x will not even work anymore, I am paying a fee for unlimited data and it's not picking up anything it use to. What kind of fortune 500 company can get away with selling a heaping pile of poop to customers and advertise it as the latest and greatest technology?
Does anyone know if it's possible for me to go to my local Verizon store and trade this in for another 4G phone or an iPhone?

I only have 3g mind u. I didnt ask for anything. I thought I made that clear. They used to swap u out after so many replacements within a certain period. I don't want to but I pointed it out if u have had a lot of problems. Some would want to if there tired of dropping off phones at FedEx. Have a had 4 major rebooting phones and with 3g3bars not be able to use it to do the internet although good signal. When I charged them sometimes they would shut off. I get 6-7 hrs with the phone not shutting off or rebooting. Wouldn't u think they would feel bad. All these things after update that's officially recalled. I love my phone but I don't love what its done. It died one day after 2 - 3 hrs caught it rebooting 3-4 times.
As for what VZW used to do with exchanges, thank the abusers for killing that option.

  • 27 inch thunderbolt display blacks out after Thunderbolt Firmware Update 1.2

Bought 2 new 27 inch TB displays for two different machines and after a couple of days the Thunderbolt Firmware Update 1.2 appears on my Mac Pro with one of the displays installed. So I install the firmware update.  Now my display blacks out periodically and I keep getting Graphic Display Errors with a request to sent the errors to Apple. Running a 32 GB Mac Pro (late 2013 circular style) I have three monitors connected (two 20 inch cinema displays and the new 27 inch display). This machine is supposed to be able to handle three 4k monitors or 6 standard TB displays.  I've seen the posts about the blacking out with this monitor but I didn't have any problems before the firmware update and now I've got them pretty regularly.  I had the blacking out problem on an earlier monitor and took one of the monitors back and Apple gave me another one and this is the replacement.  Same problem, but this one only started after the update. I'm hoping someone from Apple reads these messages and can let me know what's up.
BTW, I also have an older 27 inch Apple monitor that ran perfectly on this machine so I'm disappointed that I spent all this money and now get the blacking out issue.
    Mac Pro (Late 2013)
    Processor 3.7 GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon E5
    Memory 32 BG
Graphics AMD FirePro D300 2048 MB

I have my Thunderbolt display connected to my MacBook Pro and have been experiencing the same issue, getting worse over time.  The folks at my local Apple store did not know what to do about it.  So, I looked around and tried different thing.
The one thing that seems to be working is to System Preferences > Build-in Display > uncheck “Automatically adjust brightness.”
    I hope this helps.
