Hi, I'm newby to JSF technology,
I'd like to ask what kind of HTML it generates
for UI components contained in JSF page.
Is there any support for XHTML?

You can use any implementation of the xml api (jaxp)
do generate XML and the new versions of html are xml.
or you can use Java Server Pages and custom taglibraries like the struts framework for example.
It really depends on what you want to do exactly...
create a web application ... store documents as html ...

Client code generation question

I am starting to use OEPE to develop JAX-WS services and my first exercise is the HelloService of the J2EE 6 tutorial. The client code of the example is the following:

I have create a web service project and added a web service client for the Hello Service. The above code does not work because the code generated for HelloService is an interface and not as a class. In order to get the example working, I had to use the HelloServiceLocator instead of the HelloService one.

Hello port = helloSvcLocator.getHelloPort();
Did I miss something ?

Just to confirm, you're using this URL?

I'm going through the tutorial and most of this seems like it should work through OEPE with some caveats.
Some initial thoughts:
In OEPE we don't support java web service clients without using WLS directly or build tools built on top of WLS.
WLS builds on top of Glassfish web service API calls with its own API calls or ANT tasks.
For Hello you can deploy this web service from a web service enabled project to a running WLS instance and test through Test Client by right clicking on the file and choosing Run As.
For HelloClient to work some libraries need to be adjusted if you're using projects within OEPE and WLS since it's initial grammar doesn't allow it to run on WLS.

JavaBeans code generation from XSD

Hi everyone,
I know that this is not a new question, but I still did not find a satisfying answer.
Does anyone know a good code generator for creating JavaBeans out of XSD schemas?
The output of this tool has to comply with the JavaBeans specification, because we want to map these POJOs to a database with the Java Persistence API. Especially lists and sets need to be created correctly, because we will make heavy use of associations.
I've evaluated a large number of tools, most of them are not useable together with JPA. Here is a short list of tools I already tried:
- Castor: Really nice tool, but getter-methods for "java.util.List" objects return a copy of this list as array! Output is not a JavaBean!
- XMLBeans: As far as I've seen, Java objects have to be retrieved via a factory method, I see no possibility to use this library together with JPA. I furthermore doubt that these objects are JavaBeans.
- HyperJaxb2+3: This tool promises to create Java POJOs and Hibernate mappings at the same time. The description looks very good, but the page seems to be down. I was not able to initiate a download for days.
- Altova XMLSpy: This tool allows the generation of Java code out of XSD schemas. But the result is rather ugly. A simple XML "string" is translated into an internal Java class definition instead of a simple "String" instance. I see no usage of these objects together with JPA.
I spent quite a lot of time for searching a good code generation framework that works together with JPA. Has anyone made good experience with any kind of code generators in this area?

thanks for your reply. I think JAXB has the same limitations than XMLBeans. As I read at http://java.sun.com/javaee/5/docs/tutorial/doc/JAXB6.html, object instances shall be only accessed via a factory:
"You should never directly use the generated implementation classes--that is, *Impl.java in the <packagename>/impl directory. These classes are not directly referenceable because the class names in this directory are not standardized by the JAXB specification. The ObjectFactory method is the only portable means to create an instance of a schema-derived interface. There is also an ObjectFactory.newInstance(Class JAXBinterface) method that enables you to create instances of interfaces. "
Did you use JAXB2 together with the Java Persistence API? If yes, can you give me please an example how to map generated classes to the database?

What html code will start an EXE (program) with a click on a webpage link?

The code in bold below worked. After I switched my browser from IE 11 to Firefox to get the hover on hotspots to work, the program gave me this error message. I moved the EXE file to my local file folder and tried it as shown below. Still no success. Any suggestions?

However, you will still have problems with getting it to work cross-browser. Honestly, browsers are not supposed to have access like that to the client side file system, which absolutely makes sense for the web.
That is why you may have to approach the solution from a different angle - perhaps create a server side cloud version of your application(s) which can be easily accessed and run by your family members. I believe you used C to develop the applications? Although I have no experience with this framework, Wt might be a solution to convert your projects to server side applications:

Web Intelligence: Save Report as PDF and with embedded HTML code

Hi all.
Sorry but I'm not able to find any post about this matter, please feel free to provide links if you know existing topics about this problem.
We created a beautiful report with HTML5 code embedded into a blank cell and we are now trying to export it in a printable format (e.g.: PDF or HTML).
As you know (as per manual information) it is not possible to export a report with embedded HTML code and keeping it in the output (cell with embedded HTML code is rendered blank).
My question is: is there a known workaround or an alternative solution to export the report and keep its content?
Print screen is not a valid option :-P

Paste html code into dreamweaver 8

I'm creating my 1st website in Dreamweaver 8, and am trying
to include a photo gallery. I haven't got as far as learning Flash
yet, but Ive found a piece of html code that will do what I want
and am now trying to place it on my dreamweaver file. I don't know
how to do this though, can anyone help please?

i think maybe you have answered your own question in your
title.
simply copy the html code from where ever it is and paste it
into your DW page. paste it in using the code view though not the
design view in DW.
if your not sure where abouts to paste it in the code view
then just go to design view and with your mouse select with one
click on the area of page that you want the gallery to go, for
example in the right cell of your table. then go back to code view
and you'll see that the curser will be in the right place - then
paste!

UML code generation

Hi,
I'm developing an application of ~50+ classes in UML on JSE8 and use java code generation.
The question is about aggregations.
Navigable aggregations translate in java code to a class attribute, and to the corresponding getter/setters-methods.
A non-navigable aggregation is not translated to java code at all.
( I would expect it should translate to an attribute, but without getter/setters.
My understanding is, "navigable" means "navigable from outside the class". Correct?)
So how can I model an aggregation, which translates to an attribute in java, without generating the getters/setters?
And where can I find a comprehensive list of how elements in class diagrams are translated to java code?
Where is the JSE8-UML-manual, which includes all these details about UML code generation?

actually, the code generator is correct.
A non-navigable association should not generate an attribute.
Consider the example:
class Order -> class Date
You have navigation from class order to class date, but not otherwise.
This means that, given a Order object, you can find it's associated Date.
However, the inverse is not true: given a Date object you have no means of "navigating" or finding out which Order objects would have that date. This is what navigation means.
This should be translated into something like this
class Order{
Date theDate;
class Date{
int day, whatever;
//no ref to order-non navigable
If navigation from both classes were possible, a much more complicated code would be needed. It would be something along these lines, considering a 1-1 association (a *-1 association would require multiple order references to be stored at Date, with yet more complications):
class Order{
Date theDate;
void setDate(Date d)
theDate=d;
d.setOrder(this);
class Date{
int day,whatever;
Order theOrder; //navigation to order
void setOrder(Order o)
theOrder=o;
Care should be taken to ensure proper consistency between references (ie: the order in date should never be changed without making a corresponding change to the new order object).
All this serves to show, you should use navigation sparringly (as needed) , otherwise you're just complicating your code more than you should.

How to add a comment in a php file which has html code

I have a html file which I renamed .php after adding a form. I discovered that the html comment text I was using -  - was affecting how the page rendered, particularly in IE9.
My question is, now that it is a php file do I need to change all the comments syntax? I started to do it using the "apply comment" button in CS5 i.e. syntax: <?php /*?>form<?php */?>.
Is this the right way to do it? It gives "php" icons in design view but appears to render ok.

Code Generation and Optimization

hi,
we have been looking into a problem with our app, running in a JRockit JVM, pausing. Sometimes for up to a second or so at a time.
We enabled the verbose logging of codegen and opt.
And we see entries like:

Does this optimization happen in the main thread?
I.e., is the above message an indication that the app had to stop for 1186ms while the optimization occurred?
Any help on this would be greatly appreciated!
Also, does anyone have any more pointers to info on the code generation and optimization in JRockit?

Hi,
The optimization is done in its own thread and should not cause pauses in your application.
The probable cause for long pause times is garbage collection. Enable verbose output for gc (-Xverbose:memory), or use the JRockit Management Console to monitor your application. Try using the generational concurrent gc, -Xgc:gencon, or the gc strategy -Xgcprio:pausetime. Read more on: http://edocs.beasys.com/wljrockit/docs142/userguide/memman.html
If you allocate a lot of small, shortlived objects, you might want to configure a nursery where small objects are allocated. When the nursery is full, only that small part of the heap is garbage collected at a smaller cost than scanning the whole heap.

I am exhausted from deleting specific HTML code to make the content work. Plus there seems to be an issue with the margins moving around. Can someone help me with this HTLM code nightmare? Other than deleting it all and inputting the text again? This is the only topic in my project in which this has occurred.

 Its not possible to talk about a solution until you know the issue which caused it. the question is the HTML cannot get reorganize in RoboHelp if it is not edited exclusively - by this I mean if you bring in all the content through RoboHelp UI then RoboHelp will not change HTML by itself, until you manually change the html code.
you should try to find out the cause of the seizure (by which I think you mean hang), It could be that you are using any version control and it failed to checkout/checkin one or more project files, It might be that .cpd file got corrupted in that case you can try deleting the .cpd file after closing the project and it will get recreated by RoboHelp on next Open project, or it is possible that some of your shared resources might be missing/moved because of which RoboHelp hangs then in such case you should replace/remove these resources.
You should not be working on the project over network (i.e. the Project should be on the local drive).
Are you using CBTs and UDVs or your topics are too large (and thus processing of these topics seizes RoboHelp)
by any means deleting random HTML code of any topic might actually make the HTML invalid and cause more crashes or hangs.
I have listed down almost all the reason..
one way is to remove topics and find out the culprit topics which causes the hang and if you find one you can share it with me at [email protected] and I might find the cause of RH hang by inspecting that

I used Notepad to create a text file, markup.html, that contains html code. How can I get Firefox to execute this code?
Also, how can I use the <script> tag in the html code using the src attribute to execute code in a file written in Javascript?

First guess is that you did not use an .html extension on the file. The file may well be ''name.html.txt''

Applet use with HTML// also appletviewer question

I am new to the language. I am trying to start an applet in a folder that I created on my hard drive(C:). I have included the following code in my HTML in my folder.

I have already compiled the program; I have the net beans 1_4_2 compiler, and it has compiled without errors.
The code is :

I have also downloaded Plug-In; if that means anything. When I open the HTML folder a grey box appears; then at the bottom of the window it says that it cannot find the file; even though the file exists(I have looked with the file finder and it is in my file directory). Is it in the wrong directory? How does the file folder in windows know how to run and execute a java program with the preceding HTML code. This is the method explained in a current text book that I am using. It tells me to
1. to compile the source code into class files.
I used the compiler and I successfully created a .class file, (obviously the title of the program is .java program, but the class file does exist.
Then 2. add the above code in the HTML program(which I did).
I would like to get applets running but do not know how to correct this problem. Is there more HTML code that I need to run a java program in the folder's code.
Also, the textbook I am using tells me to preview the applet with appletviewer. I loaded the appletviewer into the editing screen and it is a bunch of hieroglyphics. One of two possible problems are that it is not included with the Net_Beans_1.4.2(it was from another download) or the download was contaminated. Anyway, the question I have is; is appletviewer an application that is viable with Net_Beans_1.4.2 and if it is from where and how do I run or execute it to preview my applets before I run them inside an HTML document.

Sounds to me like you're having trouble with NetBeans, not applets or appletviewer. You should consult their docs on how to access their version of appletviewer.
It also sounds to me like you're using the book CoreJava by Horstmann/Cornell.
Notice that they package TextPad with their book. This is for a good reason. It is very easy to be suckered into thinking you know what is going on when you have an IDE that does stuff for you. I know. I programmed in VB for a while, and I thought I knew how to do Windows programming. But I didn't. VB was doing all the work for me while I was drawing boxes on the screen and patting myself on the back. It took several major blows to the ego before I found out that all I really knew how to do was how to draw a bunch of silly boxes.
New programmers should start out with a text editor. They get a better feel of what is going on.
I don't know how NetBeans works -- even now I prefer TextPad over any IDE I've tried. But appletviewer works in the same way the java and javac command works, except that the argument it takes is the name of the html file which contains those applet tags (<APPLET>).
I have some thoughts on your problem:
1) you have an html file somewhere, but you don't know where. It is somehow created in a "window". the tag
applet code="NotHelloWorldApplet.class"
means "look in this directory for the class NotHelloWorldApplet.class" So if the html file you have created is not in this directory, how will appletviewer (or NetBean equivalent) know where it is? (hence, "class not found")
2) Is this correct? You have downloaded the plug-in for your browsers, but you didn't try using your browsers to see the applet?
If so, try this: go to IE or Netscape (or whatever you favorite browser is) and try in IE File-->Open and hit the browse button, or in Netscape File--> Open File
Next, try to find the file "NotHelloWorldApplet.html" or whatever it is you called the "window". Open the html file.
If it doesn't work, check to see if the html file is in the same directory as the class file (repeat procedure, but now look at files of type "All")
3) You can make an html file with notepad. You don't need anything special. Just type in the html code that Horstmann/Cornell include into notepad and save as an html.
