HTML code versus WYSIWYG?

This is a thread started inside another thread but I wanted more feedback on it...
What is the advantage of being able to write code? Could you list the pros and cons of this? Also, what would you recommend as inexpensive program? I know that Dreamweaver is the standard.
It seems that writing code is time consuming and hard to follow, from the little bit that I have done. Using Freeway allows me to see what I am doing in real time despite some of it's limitations.
Thanks
Ben - the man advantage (these days) of being able to write your own HTML is to be able to brag about to your buds. Web browsing is fast going the same route that programming did through the 80's.
At first it was hugely important to know Assembler because slow processors with small amounts of RAM made speed and compactness crucial. But as processor speeds continued doubling each year and installed RAM now being measured in the megabytes (even gigabytes) rather than kilobytes, the need for speed was replaced by the need for speedy development.
Today's WYSIWYG web-page programs may not create the clean code that I can create by hand. But since few of us are connecting to the internet with phones any longer and our processors are speedy little devils, who cares? Use the tools that work for you and let the tagger-braggers sit in back of the room to show off amongst themselves.

Hi,
I do respect people who can hand code web sites (I tried - I just can't get the code = positional instructions without a lot of graph paper), and it's great to see that WYSIWYG apps are suddenly being taken seriously. I have been using Freeway (http://www.softpress.com) for a good 8 to 9 years now. It's done WYSIWYG, and can generate pixel-perfect positioning with CSS and / or table based positioning.
Softpress have been shouting about the WYSIWYG approach for many, many years. It now seems that people are about ready to accept the idea. Come on in, the water's lovely

  • Can I include both CSS and HTML codes in one Open HTML Editor.

Somehow Cell phones are not properly reading css codes. Is there any way to include both CSS and HTML codes in one Open HTML Editor?

Hammad, their code is fairly mobile friendly.  Per my other discussion with you ( http://topliners.eloqua.com/thread/8532 ), Eloqua's code is responsive for the most part.  Most of their issues lie with the styling of the email where you will get different fonts and different sized fonts throughout the email and some other minor display issues.
What you are trying to accomplish is extremely difficult to do because you do not have the access to the HTML to better control how the responsive template works which is why the Eloqua templates (and most ESP templates) stick to the more basic side of emails.
If you want to use Eloqua's WYSIWYG to make their responsive email you can do so, but I would recommend deleting all their body text before editing anything because of the inconsistencies in their code.  Otherwise, I think you would be better off coding the emails outside of Eloqua using a 3rd party editor whether it's something more robust like Dreamweaver or Coda, or whether you feel comfortable working in a more text environment with programs like Notepad++ or Brackets.
At the end of the day remember you are paying Eloqua for these and if you choose to stick with the WYSIWYG and you are not getting the results you expect you need to tell Eloqua through your support channels.

  • Html-code for showing cover of current issue?

Has anyone an example of a simple html-code for showing the latest issue?
All I need is the adress to the image-file.

There was a problem like that in the WYSIWYG before 7.0.2 as
described in Using RH7 on my site. However, that was local and the
    patch fixed it.
I had a completely different problem a while back but wonder
if the solution might work. Speak to your web guys and suggest
    this.
Add the AddDefaultCharset utf-8 directive to either the
Apache config or the site .htaccess file
It's a long shot. I don't know what other effects it might
have on your server but the web guys should.

  • How to see html code in a php file using CS5.5 without using testing server?

In CS5.5 when I open a page with php extention, DW does not show any html code in design view without me having to set up a testing server. In DW 8 it would open the same files and show me the html in design view. I have no need to test php code, I just need to alter the html. Is there a setting I can change to enable this in CS5.5? Thanks.

Below is the code. I discovered that if I create a new php document not from
a template, then I can see the html elements in design view. If I create a
new page from a template and save it as html, design view still works, but
if I save a new page from template and save it as php, I only see symbols
for php and nothing else in design view.
Thanks for your help on this.

    .container

layout. It contains an image placeholder that should be replaced with your
    own linked logo. ~~ */
    .header
/* ~~ These are the columns for the layout. ~~
    1) Padding is only placed on the top and/or bottom of the divs. The elements
within these divs have padding on their sides. This saves you from any "box
model math". Keep in mind, if you add any side padding or border to the div
itself, it will be added to the width you define to create the *total*
width. You may also choose to remove the padding on the element in the div
and place a second div within it with no width and the padding necessary for
    your design.
    2) No margin has been given to the columns since they are all floated. If
you must add margin, avoid placing it on the side you're floating toward
(for example: a right margin on a div set to float right). Many times,
padding can be used instead. For divs where this rule must be broken, you
should add a "display:inline" declaration to the div's rule to tame a bug
where some versions of Internet Explorer double the margin.
    3) Since classes can be used multiple times in a document (and an element
can also have multiple classes applied), the columns have been assigned
class names instead of IDs. For example, two sidebar divs could be stacked
if necessary. These can very easily be changed to IDs if that's your
preference, as long as you'll only be using them once per document.
    4) If you prefer your nav on the right instead of the left, simply float
these columns the opposite direction (all right instead of all left) and
they'll render in reverse order. There's no need to move the divs around in
    the HTML source.
    /* sidebar1 = left */
    .sidebar1

The code in bold below worked. After I switched my browser from IE 11 to Firefox to get the hover on hotspots to work, the program gave me this error message. I moved the EXE file to my local file folder and tried it as shown below. Still no success. Any suggestions?

It allows executables in Firefox to be run - it is an extenstion, though, so it must be installed in Firefox before your page will work.
Another option is this solution, but it will still require a manual change in Firefox:
    http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewtopic.php?f=19&t=803615
    Or this: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/6472435/running-exe-in-firefox-why- do-i-get-an-error
However, you will still have problems with getting it to work cross-browser. Honestly, browsers are not supposed to have access like that to the client side file system, which absolutely makes sense for the web.
That is why you may have to approach the solution from a different angle - perhaps create a server side cloud version of your application(s) which can be easily accessed and run by your family members. I believe you used C to develop the applications? Although I have no experience with this framework, Wt might be a solution to convert your projects to server side applications:

    Good luck!

  • Using webmail in Mozilla Firefox 17.0.1 on Windows 8, original messages get turned into html code when I reply to or forward them. How can I fix this?

I have tried re-setting Firefox and working in Safe Mode, but the problem still recurs. I use Fastmail as my webmail server and never had this problem on Windows XP or Windows 7. When I reply to a message, the original message is turned into html code. The same happens when I forward a message.
My JavaScript is up to date, in case that's relevant. The Fastmail support team suggested the problem would be Firefox-related.
The other function of my Fastmail account that isn't working properly in Firefox 17.0.1. is the search function.
Do I need to get new plugins or something? I don't know where the HTML editor is in Firefox or if that's what's wrong.

    Rachel

Thanks for your reply, cor-el. Norton 360 came pre-installed on the laptop as part of the package I bought. I haven't changed the pre-set firewall or anti-virus settings. Should I change something?
I will try rebooting in Windows Safe mode as you say and report if that makes any difference.

  • Web Intelligence: Save Report as PDF and with embedded HTML code

    Hi all.
Sorry but I'm not able to find any post about this matter, please feel free to provide links if you know existing topics about this problem.
We created a beautiful report with HTML5 code embedded into a blank cell and we are now trying to export it in a printable format (e.g.: PDF or HTML).
As you know (as per manual information) it is not possible to export a report with embedded HTML code and keeping it in the output (cell with embedded HTML code is rendered blank).
My question is: is there a known workaround or an alternative solution to export the report and keep its content?
Print screen is not a valid option :-P

  • Print a PDF report having a field(column table) with a HTML code

    hello every one,
I have a table where a column(varchar2) have HTML code inside it.
Because all my reports are in PDF format, how can I print this column, when I print in PDF I see all HTML tag and it isn't formatted.
Have Anyone same problem, could I convert in PDf before I print it?
    Thanks in advance for help

You need to set "Contains HTML tags" to YES, so that the HTML code is formated in the report.
It is a property of the field.
