.html gives 404 error but htm works

I published my site to a folder on my hd, I uploaded as usual and went to view the site threw my browsers and I was getting a 404 page not found. So I changed the index ext from .html to .htm and the site now works... Anyone know why? I never had this problem before.

Sounds like a problem with your server. Ask the people who run it.
If you want more help, provide your url so people can see for themselves what is happening.

  • Weblogic 10.3.2: Under load, system gives 404 error when accessing page

    Hi all,
I am running Weblogic 10.3.2 with a J2EE EAR deployed against it. I am using JDBC data sources to connect to an Oracle 11g database. I am running on Linux Red Hat 5. The machine has 16 GB RAM and 16 cores of an Intel Xeon processor.
I have recorded some Grinder scripts to simulate the HTTP requests going back and forth from the web browser to the app server in an attempt to play them back in volume to do some load testing. I am finding that even under relatively moderate load, after some time (say 30-60 minutes) when trying to access the application in my web browser (and in Grinder), I am getting 404 errors.
The strange thing is that the app server is still running fine and there are no errors thrown in any Weblogic log file. There is nothing wrong in the verbosegc log file and the CPU usage via "sar" is very low. The number of JDBC connections is well below the threshold for concern. Sometimes, if I wait a while (hours or more), it sometimes comes back up and works fine again, until the next worjload hits it. I have studied thread dumps and see nothing unusual.
I've been very puzzled with this for days. Does anyone else know what might be wrong or something else I could check to get more information?

Hi, I have the same kind of problem. but when it happens I noticed strange line in the access.log like these ones :
    access.log00003:192.168.104.198 - - [20/Apr/2012:12:16:45 +0200] "ancelActionID=CCACustomerProfile&contactreasonwrapuplaunchable=true&contactCode=&contactType=&contactInformation=&Customer.CustomerNumber=5146990&processheadertitle=&PageState.CaseNumber=&PageState.CaseReference=&caseId=42ceed6436cbd7c70136cf3ea82c3b4a&" 404 0
    access.log00004:192.168.104.122 - - [20/Apr/2012:14:02:16 +0200] "s-xpsdocument, application/x-ms-xbap, application/x-ms-application, application/vnd.ms-excel, application/vnd.ms-powerpoint, application/msword, */*" 404 0
    access.log00004:192.168.105.122 - - [20/Apr/2012:14:02:18 +0200] "-ms-xbap, application/x-ms-application, application/vnd.ms-excel, application/vnd.ms-powerpoint, application/msword, */*" 404 0
    access.log00004:192.168.104.122 - - [20/Apr/2012:14:02:20 +0200] "application/x-ms-application, application/vnd.ms-excel, application/vnd.ms-powerpoint, application/msword, */*" 404 1214
As you can see, instead of containiing the HTTP action (GET/POST /someurl HTTP/1.1) it contains part of the url or even part of the Accept http header...
When your 404 happened did you have those strange entries in your access.log ? Did you succeed in resolving it ?

  • Custom 404 error page only works 75% of the time

I have made custom HTTP error pages for my app and they work for Mozilla, Opera and Firefox but IE seems to have its own personal 404 error page.
Anyone know how to make IE work and play well with others and display the custom 404 page like the other 3 browsers do? I did clear the IE cache, twice.
The environment is Tomcat 5.0.19 (stand-alone, no IIS) running on Window Server 2003 Enterprise
    Thanks for your help!
    Will

You got to love microsoft products huh. Microsoft has turned on its friendly error pages. Unfortunately, to fix this, you have to have your clients modified their browser settings. Inside the IE browser, do the following:
    1. From menu choose tools->internet options
    2. Choose the advanced tab
    3. Uncheck the checkbox that says "Show friendly HTTP error messages"
That will do it for ya.

    a call to
    https://myserver.xyz.corp/ContentHost/ClientBin/KnowledgeArticleViewer.aspx?ArticleId=
responses with “unrecognized guid format”. so the webservice KnowledgeArticleViewer seems to be reachable. the GUID also is fine (checked with a runbook and this is the proper scobjectid)
seems to be independend of permissions, even members of the administators role have the same issue
    any ideas?

  • ITunes returning 404 error when submitting working podcast feed

I am trying to submit a podcast to the iTunes Directory but iTunes is returning a "bad http result code:404" error. This is a known good feed verified by both feedvalidator.org and iTunes U. Feedvalidator shows an encoding error ("utf-8" vs. "US-ASCII"), but otherwise has no problem. Feed is here: http://itunesmedia.seu.edu/Chapel/2013_Chapel/rss.xml. Thanks.

No obvious answer here. The feed looks fine and can be subscribed to manually in Tunes perfectly well.
The encoding error you mention occurs a lot and doesn't normally seem to cause any problems. Error 404 is 'file not found'.
We have seen cases where perfectly good feeds couldn't be read by the Store: I've never seen an expanation, and my guess - and I emphasize it is a guess - is that the server is for some reason not responding to requests from the Store when it does to all other requests.
You could start by leaving it for a bit and trying again in case it's some sort of temporary glitch. If it still doesn't work I can only suggest you ask the people running your server if they can check the server logs for when this happened.

  • /weblog/ is fine; /weblog gives 404 error

We've customized our VM and CSS files so that our blog's appearance is very much our own. We're ready to publicize now, but have a concern:
    http://<servername>/weblog
    Gives a 404 error, while
    http://<servername>/weblog/
    is fine.
We're worried that when people link to us, they'll omit the trailing forward slash, and wind up with a broken link.
Is there any way to change the Blojsom default URL?

  • Help : Calling a Servlet.doPost from a HTML Form (404 Error !!!)

    All
I trying to make a call to a doPost method of a servlet from the doGet method of the same servlet.
The call is made from an HTML form, so
    *<form name="input" action="servlet/deleteAlertPage" method="post">*
    ======================================================================
The web.xml file entry is as follows:
    *<servlet>*
    *<servlet-name>deleteAlertPage</servlet-name>*
    *<servlet-class>bsp.perceptive.custom.webapp.deleteAlert.deleteAlertPage</servlet-class>*
    *<load-on-startup>0</load-on-startup>*
    *</servlet>*
    *<servlet-mapping>*
    *<servlet-name>deleteAlertPage</servlet-name>*
    *<url-pattern>/deleteAlertPage</url-pattern>*
    *</servlet-mapping>*
So when I run my Servlet from my JDeveloper, I do see the “doGet” method getting executed successfully and I see my HTML from appearing on a browser page.
As soon as I press the submit button, where I want the “doPost” method to get executed, I get the following error:
    Error 404--Not Found
From RFC 2068 Hypertext Transfer Protocol -- HTTP/1.1:
    *10.4.5 404 Not Found*
The server has not found anything matching the Request-URI. No indication is given of whether the condition is temporary or permanent.
If the server does not wish to make this information available to the client, the status code 403 (Forbidden) can be used instead.
The 410 (Gone) status code SHOULD be used if the server knows, through some internally configurable mechanism, that an old resource
is permanently unavailable and has no forwarding address.
Any ideas ? Is my Servlet Setup and Execution Correct ?
    Any help is appreciated.

    John
I got it to work !!
I had to place the application name in the action value also I had to change the port number, from 8080 to be 7101.
    However
It was not that straight forward, because when I created my web Application I gave it the application Name of "BSPCustPerWebApps" and Project Name of "BSPCustPerWebApps"and this is reflected in my JDeveloper folder structure: "....\mywork\BSPCustPerWebApps\BSPCustPerWebApps\src\bsp\perceptive\custom\webapp\deleteAlert"
now when I run my Servlet initially I noticed that Browser URL is saying : http://localhost:7101/BSPCustPerWebApps-BSPCustPerWebApps-context-root/deleteAlertPage
which means that the web application is : BSPCustPerWebApps-BSPCustPerWebApps-context-root
so I changed my action value to be
    action="http://localhost:7101/BSPCustPerWebApps-BSPCustPerWebApps-context-root/deleteAlertPage"
    and that worked.
Weblogic must have created/defauled the application name using the application name and project name that I gave duriung the servlet creation.
Is there a way of changing the application name to be something shorter and more meaningfull ?
Also I did not want to hard code the server name, port etc in the action value, so again is there way of making this to be derived ?
Do you know how to access the WebLogic Console ? , considering I have only installed JDev, which has an embedded weblogic server.
    Thanks for your help.

  • CF11 cfc gives 500 error but cfm is fine

We are testing our cf code which all works fine on a CF9 Windows Server 2008 machine but we are going to migrate to a CF11 Windows 2012 R2 machine. We have a test machine setup and all the code moved over and so far the cfm pages seem to work fine as well as the Application.cfc page but when we call a cfc via AJAX or we visit the cfc methods directly we get a 500.0 error Application could not be found.

  • AHT finds logic board error, but computer working fine

I ran the Apple Hardware Test to see the profile for my RAM, but 7 seconds into the test it stopped and reported a logic board error.
    1. But my computer is working fine. If anyone has experience with this, I'll gladly take your advice. Do I ignore this error at my own risk? Or should I get it looked at now in case it's an early warning of something that can get worse? For the real Apple tech experts, here's the error code: 2I2C/1/1: 0x00000092.
Eleven months ago, I had to get a new power supply installed. It was covered under the extended warranty for power issues with iMac G5s. As I've indicated, it's been working fine since then.
    2. Once AHT finds an error, it won't continue testing the remaining components. Does anyone know of a way to "force" the AHT to skip the logic board test and go on to test the other hardware items?
    Thanks all.

Michael, pray tell, where does one find the published list of codes you refer to? I searched the whole internet (or so it seemed like it) looking for a resource like that. Are you an AASP?
Even my experienced Apple technician and his AASP contacts didn't realize that my error code relates to the European Union. (And, BTW, I'm in Canada and I purchased my iMac from a store in Canada.) You have solved a mystery!
The strange thing is that when I phoned Apple Tech Support and asked to speak to a product specialist, even they told me that the code means "logic board needs replacement." When I asked to speak to a higher dept., I was connected to Customer Relations (very nice, professional fellow answered). When I explained that this G5 iMac has been problematic for me (failure after 7 mos. of ownership, power supply failure after 3 yrs, etc.) he offered me $100.00 off a new iMac ($125.00 in Canada), which I accepted.
I did use TechTool Pro to check the computer. It found no problems. Four months later and it's still going strong. I don't know whether to be upset with Apple for not bothering to look up the code, or whether I should look at this as a blessing in disguise (how else would I have received $125.00 off a new iMac? And now, my father gets a G5 that I can confidently say is in good working order). And it's strange that my local tech's AASP friends weren't any wiser. Aren't AASPs privy to this error code info? A mystery indeed...
