Html mail programs - what's up with Mac

HTML Mail Support
Tiger Mail uses Apple's new WebKit authoring engine, creating complex HTML email messages with Mail's trademark simplicity. However, most of the power of that engine is inaccessible. Aside from the addition of an "Add Hyperlink…" menu item, Mail's composition window offers no better text or layout controls than 10.0's Mail did in 2001.
But intriguingly, Safari RSS has a menu item to send an entire web page as the contents of an email message. Your email message is the web page, complete with links, style sheets, layout, formatting, even advertising and embedded Flash media! (By the way, this incredibly rich messaging seems to trigger some spam filters.) And it's all editable, sort of. One can add and delete text and attachments, but not edit style sheets, layout, or anything more complex than the Font Panel can handle. Even page margins and background colors are missing -- supported by the engine, but with no way to set them.
Mail has incredible potential for rich messaging but no easy way to access it. One could create a fancy mail template as a web page, publish it, and start every message by mailing that page, but that's not really rich messaging "for the rest of us."
People have been asking Apple for HTML composition for years, and, while Apple finally delivered it, we're not sure it's really what customers intended. (Kenny Grant's Balzac email client, with smart folders and beautiful full CSS HTML message templates, is more to the point.) Apple excels at beautiful design - look at Pages and Keynote - why not bring this design acumen to Mail and include beautiful, rich email templates? The new WebKit would support it.

Tiger was replaced by Leopard last October, and Leopard Mail has a new feature called Stationery which might provide some of what you are talking about:

  • Mail Atachments are changed (!) with Mac Mail

    Hi,
I have a client who regularly sends large jpg pictures. Most of the times they go through just fine. «Sometimes» however, the «resolution information» is omitted:
Say, we're sending a file with 2000x2000 pixels and a 300 ppi resolution (file size 500K - 2MB). On the receiving end the resolution is 72 ppi! Is this weird?
On the sendign end, this happens with 10.5.4 and 10.4.11 and the respective latest Mac Mail apps (as the sending program)
And this happens with «Entourage» latest version 12.1.0 as well! So the problem lies in the OS?!
On the receiving end, I have tried different hardware, different system software and different clients as well. The problem is consistent with all client plattforms, therefore it has to do with the sending end.
The picture files are definetely ok. In one case it was a file that was scanned inhouse. In another case it was a file from outside. This is interesting: From the pictures in question, I have created complete new jpgs (save as) with Photoshop and with GraphicConverter and the problem with these files persist. When I convert the picture to png or psd, however, the resolution is being transferred fine!
As I said, most jpgs are being sent without a problem, its maybe 1% -3% where the problem occurs.
I have tried to solve this for more than a week now and I am completely puzzled. I have bought and installed new Entourage, new Leopard, ran all the latest upgrades, but it did not change.
    Does anyone have any hints?
    Thanks a lot,
    Gary

Well, I've cleaned the caches and run all the tests, maintenance, and optimizations on my mac and that has not solved the problem.
Just out of curiosity, I tried synchronizing my .Mac mail with Thunderbird on a PC. I'm seeing the same symptoms as I did on my Mac with Mail: filed messages being reloaded from the server and messages not being marked as read.
I'm taking this problem over to the dotmac support forum.
Thanks again for your help Allan. At lest I now know that my Mac is in fine working order.

My iphone 4 speakers stopped giving me sounds when i play audio or video even while gaming. It works fine when ringing tunes of for voice mails, even works fine with headsets. What is wrong with it?

well i'd seriosly say point a hot hair drier at the speakers as water has entered the phone most commonly via the home button but avoid getting it too hot let it cool every 3 minutes after constant drying. Don't worry I have honestly dont this with my iPhone 4 GSM 16GB. For future reference avoid letting it get wet.

  • Looking for a Personal Finance, Money Management program that works smoothly with Mac OS 10.9.4

I’m looking for something to break down my spending into categories and merchants so I can track where I’m spending and better control it.   Checked out Quicken first, but looks like Intuit is giving up on Mac integration.  Can someone experienced in Mac and Financial Programs recommend one for personal finance and money management that works well with Mac?  OSX 10.9.4.  And, I’m an English major.  Numbers and spending are my Achilles wallet.

I like Quicken personally. There is a new version in the works.

  • Can a preloaded program still be sync with Mac iTunes?

Hi I was told by a sale personnel who is selling a product  which comes preloaded with a series of music that I should not sync my ipod nano with Mac Itunes as it will corrupt the preloaded programe.  I like to enquire :
    1.  Will such a thing happen during syncing time?
    2.  Should my ipod be damage, how do I retrieve the preloaded music if I am not suppose to sync it with itunes?
    3.  When music are preloaded and transfer to itunes - will the 'quality' of the music be comprimise?
    Thank you.

  • What's up with Mac Mail settings not porting and being so laborious?

i am wondering why at such a late date (Mountain Lion and iOS6) i am entering NINE (9!) entries for my email accounts on my iPhone and having to enter my email address for the new account THREE (3!) times - and then having to do this again for EIGHT (8) entries on both my laptop and my desktop.
i have had to do this again due to porting my website to a new host and - well - at a minimum it would be nice to get iOS 6 to only require me to enter my address ONE time (this means that for my ten email accounts on the iPhone i would cut down my entries from 90 to 70 which would be great).
then if there is some way to /port/ my email setting from my laptop to my desktop (assuming i am running the same OS on both) this would mean i would only have to enter an additional 80 entries instead of the 160 i have to do now.
am i missing some EXPORT utility in Mac Mail in Mountain Lion or - well - or is this software somehow not interested in making my life easier in 2013?
    THANKS

I tried the technique in that linked article with another account on my Mac. It works, but I think you'd be better off setting up the accounts. Here's what I needed to do (note changes with Mountain Lion).
Open you user/Library folder and copy the Mail folder to an external.
Open the containers folder and copy com.apple.mail folder to external (ML change)
On the destination Mac, select Get Info on each of the folders.
Unlock the padlock in the sharing and permissions section.
Click the Add button and add yourself. Set you to read/write.
Select you, then use the Gear menu to make you the owner.
Select any of the other users (except everyone) and delete them.
Copy the folders into you User/Library folder in the same locations they came from.
If you don't transfer the keychain, then you'll have to set the passwords for all the accounts, along with the SMTP server password, if set.
Your original plan I think was easier.

  • What's happening with Mac Mail since Mavericks?

Phantom indications I have unread emails-in my "new mail" smart mailbox it shows three new messages, but when I click on folder, it is displaying no emails. My new "VIP mail", which I did not set up except my iPhone, shows messages from the VIPs but there are none there. Unread mail shows 371 unread emails - there are emails in the folder, but when I select all, it doesn't give me a choice to mark as read - just unread.
Hopefully, this will be addressed in an update.

  • What's wrong with Mac G5 1.8 Machine?

I've searched the net, I've searched the forum with the whole fan noise issues and seen all possible solutions but none has worked for me.
I bought a used mac a while ago and now that I bought some PNY memory (2) 512MB chips that are designed specifically for my model and bought a Seagate 250MB SATA Drive for my second drive. Everything works fine, the system profiler detects everything.
However, everytime I install something or try to use a program the fans start spinning crazy and then it goes into sleep mode. I have to hit the ESC button a few times so the machine can wake back up.
I followed the suggestions on the net and on the forums about the energy saver and sliding the knobs to never. I put the Processor Performance to Highest. Everything else unchecked.
I downloaded that Temperature Monitor program from the Bresink site and what it tells me is the following:
    CPU Temperature: 70.8C
    Drive Bay: 25.5C
    Smart Disk Maxtor: 47.0C
    Smart Disk ST: 42.0C
I checked the Console under the system log for everytime this machine shuts off and it states:
    IOSMUPwrController:: OverTemp Notification
Power Management received emergency overtemp signal. Going to sleep.
I did a search on the forums and google/yahoo for IOSMUPwrController and nothing appears for that keyword.
I took out the new PNY memory and it did the same thing so it's not my memory.
All I have in the G5 is a new Geethree Stealth Port I just put in for my Midi Timepiece.
I also put in from my previous G4 Quicksilver machine my Sonnet Area Extreme PCI Wireless network card.
Any other suggestions? I did that reset thing I had to do in terminal mode and that didn't do anything either.
I'm wondering if I have to replace the fans on the power supply because that noise reminds me of bad fans on a PC.
Saddest thing is that my PC is so 5 times quieter than my G5. Sad!
I don't have applecare or warrenty.
This is a G5 single processor 1.8Ghz the one that I can only max the memory to 4 GIGS not 8 GIGS. I think they state it's a late 2004 model.

I give up, I'm going to take a bat to this machine. I've had it. I have never seen a computer ever do this before not even a windows machine when it's fans are are about to expire.
Anyhow here's the latest logs from system console.

  • What version works with Mac 10.6.6 ?

I'm working on a new Intel Mac with OS 10.6.6. I downloaded Adobe Reader 10.0.1, thinking that that would install the whole program. Wrong. It asked me what version of an existing Adobe Reader program I wanted to update. But I don't have any version of Reader on this computer. What do I need to do now?
    Thanks.

    Hi,
Adobe Reader 10.0.1 works with OS X 10.6.6.
You have probably downloaded the update package rather than the full reader installer. Request you to download and install Reader from: http://get.adobe.com/reader
Or you can also use direct download ftp link for english version:

  • What's wrong with Mac Mini Server's quality ?

    Hi,
I am an owner of the Unibody Mac Mini Server 2010 for my business server.
When i bought it after two days use the HD started to fail. One with bad blocks and the other one with I/O errors. OSX froze many times. Did many tests and it showed bad blocks on one HD the second just failed some times.
The HD that are included are HTS725050A9A362.
I took the Mini to an Authorized Repair place. They replaced one HD. Gave it back to me. I then realized that they only replaced one HD. Took it back again and then they replaced the second one as well. All fine took it back home installed everything again.
I have now use it for 3 months. Couple of weeks ago i woke up to a message box saying that the Mini has beed shutdown by some error. Could not find out what that error was but things looked to be running ok so i left it like that.
Today i woke up to a dead mac mini. It would not boot. It was sitting with the spinning weel so i made a reset of the RAM or whatever it's called you know Command + P + R. That made it go a little bit further. It now stopped with the Folder icon blinking meaning it could not find a boot disk. Hmmmm i thought. This can only be a disk error. Tried to boot with DVD and do repair but it did not work out.
To rescue my data from the second disk i booted in target mode and used my iMac to copy stuff over. Let me tell you that, that was not easy. Target mode worked like ****, maybe because of the first disk which was damaged dunno. When at last i opened the folder with my stuff the copy speed was ok. Funny enough i also managed to copy data from the disk that could not boot in target mode but i can't boot it so the disk is not really dead.
Now my problem is this. What to do ? I have warranty but i have a feeling that theese HD are not reliable so if Apple repairs the Mini again they will replace with the same HD which i am not interested in. I am willing to invest in 2 new HD myself which are not the same brand but i don't want to void the warranty and open the box.
I should add that i have 2 x 4gb memory inserted which is not Apple. I bought exactly what Apple recommend on their web page (CORSAIR 4GB DDR3 1066MHz model. CM3X4GSD1066 G). I do not think this has anything to do with the problems i see but i thought I'll mention it.
I can also mention that after first time the HD died i kept an eye on the temperatures and i had HD temperatures around 35C. The CPU was around 48-50C and the server was idling at 80-85%.
What can you recommend me i do ? Maybe all the problems that i have are just ****** quality by Apple. Maybe they squeezed the internal components to close and they run into these problems. I just don't know what i should do. It's not like that this is a computer...it's a server and MUST run continuously.
    donnib

Are you certain the RAM is not causing this issue?
Was the original (2Gb-4Gb) RAM fitted when the 1st issue appeared?
Apple does not offer the current Mac mini + server with 8Gb RAM. It is likely that non OEM RAM can cause corrupted data on the HDD(s).
Is it not possible to fit the original RAM, format/reinstall the HDD and test the Mac mini the way it was shipped?.
The current Mac mini is positioned as a home or small business server plus there is no hardware reporting as found in an X-Serve. The HDD(s) used are as reliable as one would expect from a portable drive. Like the previous Mac mini's, the current models are reliable with few known issues until you replace parts that Apple may not have used in testing.
Since the arrival of the late 2009 mini, Apple uses sensors on the original HDD(s) which cause problems (either no boot or loud fan noise) if a different brand or model is fitted. The HDD needs to be compatible with the sensor(s). The 2010 Mac mini has taken it even further in that respect covering each drive with Mylar wrapping as well as the sensor. Apple really does not want users to swap parts out.

  • What Touch Screen with Mac Mini?

I need to set up a Mini with a Touch Screen to create a kiosk environment. It will have a card reader attached as well -- for student check-ins.
Aspect ratio doesn't matter nor does resolution. Size can be anything from 17" to 20".
Mini has DVI port, is a recent model (Core 2 Duo), Intel GMA 950 video.
Has anybody had any experience with touch screens on a Mac? What brands to look at? What to avoid?
    Thanks
    :O:
    wd

I'm currently developing a touchscreen application to control television broadcast equipment using a Mac Mini (OS v10.5.2) and an Elotouch screen.
Both units fresh from China or wherever they're built.
The USB touch driver (v04.00.02) works fine when first installed.
But when the OSX Software Update is run, the touch driver fails.
I don't know why... might have something to do with those Elo clowns putting their stuff in a folder at the root of the hard drive. Who knows.
"Removing this device" (the red arrow in the elotouch UPPD Console App) and "adding" the device back made it work again. It required a reboot and running the Elo recalibration utility.
and now my 2 cents worth:
Mac Minis are great for custom applications that are typically put on embedded boards. The low cost per unit, ease of development and relatively tiny form factor make them the perfect "stick up" device that you can wedge just about anywhere.
The location I'm installing this particular solution specifies Mac or Linux OS. Due to security concerns, Windows boxes aren't allowed unless there is no other option available for a particular application.
I'm building 2 identical units for a 24-7 system. So if/when the first one smokes itself in 1-to-5 years, the 2nd one gets swapped in. Using an external net share to hold a few K of data, the control system comes back on line in a few short minutes.
Dirt cheap redundancy (compared to the other NASA-like gigabuck systems in place here.)
Mac Minis rock. As long as they keep making them, they will continue to be my first choice for "embedded" systems (that require fancy interfaces.)

  • What monitor works with mac mini

I am new to the Apple/Mac computer world, I am considering a used Mac mini, I would like to know if I can use my old flat screen lcd monitor? Does anyone have any input on what specifications I should look for in a Mac mini?
Thanks in advance for any informatin.
    Charles

That is an old Mini. It can't go higher than OSX 10.5.8.
Your Mini has a DVI video output port and you can get adopters to support VGA , S-Video and composite video monitors
