HTML to PDF again

I need that my users can save my JSPs to PDF without installing a pdf printer.
Is there any way or tool to do that? i've been read about FOP and iText but i think that is very complicated. I don't care if i need to pay for a license

I don't think that you'll find a native HTML to PDF converter for Java. If you want something windows based I think you can take the HTML to PDF converter library for .NET from http://www.dotnet-reporting.com or from http://www.winnovative-software.com and build a ASP.NET 2.0 web service that you can furher call from your Java application.
All the conversion can be done in a few lines for C# code:
       // Create the PDF converter. Optionally you can specify the virtual browser
        // width as parameter. 1024 pixels is default, 0 means autodetect
        PdfConverter pdfConverter = new PdfConverter();
        // set the license key
        pdfConverter.LicenseKey = "P38cBx6AWW7b9c81TjEGxnrazP+J7rOjs+9omJ3TUycauK+cLWdrITM5T59hdW5r";
        // set the converter options
        pdfConverter.PdfDocumentOptions.PdfPageSize = PdfPageSize.A4;
        pdfConverter.PdfDocumentOptions.PdfCompressionLevel = PdfCompressionLevel.Normal;
        pdfConverter.PdfDocumentOptions.PdfPageOrientation = PDFPageOrientation.Portrait;
        pdfConverter.PdfDocumentOptions.ShowHeader = false;
        pdfConverter.PdfDocumentOptions.ShowFooter = false;
        // set to generate selectable pdf or a pdf with embedded image
        pdfConverter.PdfDocumentOptions.GenerateSelectablePdf = selectablePDF;
        // Performs the conversion and get the pdf document bytes that you can further
        // save to a file or send as a browser response
        byte[] pdfBytes = pdfConverter.GetPdfFromUrlBytes(urlToConvert);

  • Tall report in both HTML and PDF

    Hi,
    I have a report in 10.1.2.0.2 with three logical parts; a header (logo, column titles), a body (actual data) and footer (column sums, some texts). At the moment I'm just using the main section (not header/trailer) but I'm willing to change.
    Depending on the parameters the report will give 1-20 pages (if I was to print them) of output.
    I would like to offer both HTML and PDF output but I'm having some issues.
    If I set the height of the main section to 25 centimeters/10 inches and run the reports with parameters that produce 2 pages of output, I will get two pages i the PDF perfectly. The HTML will then get a seam (empty row) after 25cm/10In and then continue. The problem is that the second part of data is in a separate html table, making the columns not aligned to the first part.
    So, PDF OK, HTML ugly.
    If I set the height of the main section to 250 centimeters/100 inches and run the report again the HTML is fine. One long table and therefore consistent columns.
    Now the PDF consists of only one page. It looks fine but after the last row I can scroll down much more as the PDF "page" is really tall now.
    So, PDF ugly, HTML OK.
    Any suggestions for acheiving a nice result in both PDF and HTML?
    Kind regards

    Many thanks Denis, worked perfectly!
    Now the customer has decided that they want the header on each page...
    So now I don't need to use your solution but it's good to know how to solve it.
    Fortunately (?) I've got a new problem now.
    If the output spans two pages I now get one head, the first part of data, head again, rest of data and foot. Fine.
    The problem is that the columns of head and data on page two are not aligned with the ones on page one.
    So head and data always align, but only withing the page. Page two might be much wider than page one.
    This is is HTML output and the frames are set to horizontally fixed.
    Seems to be the footer. Didn't help putting it in a horizontally fixed frame of it's own.
    Suggestions?
    Kind regards
    Tomas

  • PDF (again) and photo books

    I am sorry to bring up this thing again, but even reading similar entries I still don't know how to do what I want to do or whether it is possible at all without some third party software.
    What do I want? That people can turn the pages of my PDF, seeing not just the front page.
    That they can turn the pages of my photo album by Apple.
    I tried to follow suggestions and create a hyperlink but all of the "Insert > Hyperlink" are greyed out,
    even if the first page is selected (I think it is, but I can only see those little squares).
    Also, all the photos of my book are uploaded, but they can be viewed only as individual photos,
    not as a book with turning pages.
    I hope that iWeb will let me do these things, otherwise I would not find much use for it.
    Regards,

    One of the neatest ways of having a PDF online with pages that turn is to use ISSUU which is a free service.
    http://www.iwebformusicians.com/PromoPage/ISSUU.html
    Your PDF can be uploaded "as is" as a PDF. Your photo album would have to be imported into something like Keynote or Pages and exported as a PDF. If you don't have iWork or another DTP app, you can use the freeware NeoOffice to do this.....

  • Acrobat 9 HTML to PDF conversion sets all checkboxes to checked?

    When I convert an HTML file that contains checkboxes to PDF using Acrobat 9 Standard or Pro (fully updated) on Windows XP SP3, all of the checkboxes end up checked in the resulting PDF.  I've looked in settings menus but can't find anything that seems to be a relevant option to prevent this from happening.  I've attached a simple test case .html file to this post that you can use to repeat the problem.
    To convert the file, I right-click on the file in Windows Explorer, and click Convert to Adobe PDF.  I've tried "printing" the document to the Adobe PDF printer, but that introduces other issues and is not really an acceptable solution.
    Has anyone encountered this before, and/or have ideas how to fix it?

    Input elements have no such inheritance on the checked attribute.  Furthermore, the input elements in my test case are not grouped together.  They are each encapsulated within separate list item elements, and so no inheritance should take place after the first input element.
    Just for grins, I changed the order of the elements (moved the checked one below the unchecked one), but that did not make any difference in the Acrobat 9 HTML to PDF conversion.
    I did test this with Acrobat 8 Standard, and the HTML to PDF conversion preserved the correct checked status of the input elements.  It looks to me like this is a bug that was introduced in Acrobat 9.

  • Place multiple pdfs into separate indesign and export to pdf again

    Ok I have a lot of PDFs that I need to place into indesign in their own file, then re-export back as a PDF again.
    Can anyone recommend a script for this if there is one? All the pdfs have different page counts etc. and I don't need to save the Indesign file.
    I just want to put all the PDFs into their own InDesign file and reexport to PDF again. They are all A4 sized PDFs, 210 x 297mm.
    Any help is appreciated.
    Thanks

    Thanks harbs
    I need to Save all the pdfs as RTF, and some of the PDFs have bad tags and won't allow me to save as RTF.
    I can batch process them in Acrobat to Print to PDF and that works for some, but not all the PDFs, it won't print some of them back to PDF.
    I have 100's of these "bad pdfs" and it would be great to be able to place them all into separate indesign files and export out as pdf again. It will be tedious to run the PDF importer and export for all of the files.
    I don't need to save the indesign file, just place and export the pdf again.
    Just looking to automate the process.

  • HTML to PDF conversion - problems with page-breaks and bookmarks

    Hello,
    My company is currently considering updating your software (from Acrobat 9 Pro to Acrobat XI Pro) and I’ve been assigned to research its features and make sure that it is a right fit for our goals. Basically we want to automate the whole process as much as possible and we want to create PDF directly from HTML. We’re providing a lot of content in HTML and we need a fast way to transfer it into PDF format. There are however some guidelines:
    We want page-breaks in is this kind of documents, and thus - your app needs to be able to interpret HTML and put them where we want to;
    We need to have bookmarks in there. Converter must be able to make them based on headlines from HTML source or afterwards, directly in PDF by using some auto-bookmarks feature;
    There has to be table of content generated, based on HTML Link Tags if possible. Here’s sample of TOC structure that we have currently:
    <A NAME="redirect">sample_text</A>
    <A HREF="#redirect">sample_text</A>
    Of course we can modify HTML in any way you want us to. The important thing for us is to make it work in PDF without the need to make a lot of manual changes after conversion.
    I’ve been messing with Acrobat 9 Pro and reading some documentation that you have provided and I’m convinced that point 3 is not a problem. I’m aware that Acrobat 9 Pro is not having any difficulties with links in document and they work fine in PDF format that has been created from HTML.
    Page-breaks on the other hand are bothering me. Your app is apparently ignoring every HTML code that the Internet is advising me to use to force page-break where I want. Honestly - I’ve tested like ten ways to make them and not even one was working. That’s why I’m asking for your help.
    Another problematic subject for me is the bookmarks creation. I know that they are not a problem if I’m doing DOC to PDF conversion. Then I’m able to decide what header should be used as a curtain level of bookmarks and everything is working great at the end. However - with direct HTML to PDF conversion - I really don’t know how to generate bookmarks that are based on the source of the input document. Is there any way to make fully working 2 level bookmark tree in this case? Here’s an example of the structure we want at the end:
    header1
    header2
    header2
    header1
    header1
    header2
    Could you please help me in finding the solutions? Just like I’ve mentioned - we can modify input HTML in any way, but in the end we would like to achieve our goals as quickly as possible.
    Please excuse my English.
    I am looking forward to your response,
    Lucas

    Frankly - we would like to avoid using Word. We are using it currently but there are long-term plans of improving whole conversion process, eliminate any mid-steps and automate as much as possible even though conversion is not going to be done unattended on a server. Thank you for your response, but I hope that maybe someone else would have any idea?

    Mananing html and pdf together seems to me a difficult task.
    Output format differs by the Operating system too.
    Html can be in better shape when font size is
    less than 8.
    But if this is 8 or > than 8 it will mess up the report.
    We definelty need some assitance from the oracle team to help us out in reducing our

  • Acrobat 9 HTML to PDF conversion sets all checkboxes to checked - Duplicate question

    I am converting html files to pdf using Acrobat 9 pro. All of the check boxes and radio buttons come out checked.
    This is exactly the same as the following thread:
    Acrobat 9 HTML to PDF conversion sets all checkboxes to checked?
    That thread is old, but not answered. Has there been any update to this?

    Hi Don,
    Have you tried updating to v 9.5.5 and checked.
    Which OS and browser are you using?
    Have you checked the behavior with a new sample form on the browser?

  • Why Reports format behaves different in Excel and browser(if desformat=html or pdf)?

    1-Why Reports format behaves different in Excel and browser(if desformat=html or pdf)?
    2-I made three queries Q1,Q2 & Q3 and linked them with proper field links but suppose Q3 returns no records for some Q1&Q2 records & when the report runs for delimited options it reflects only those records as output for which all the queries return records(if Q3 returns no record then the related records from queries Q1,Q2 don't reflect) while the output in desformat=html or pdf is ok..

    What do you mean by "different"? (In our
    experience, Oracle html output has too many
    columns, which are not visible in the
    browser but are obvious in Excel.)
    We build our own html programmatically, so
    that Excel matches the browser more closely.

  • Convert HTML to PDF - API or utility

    Hi community,
    Our product generates HTML reports, after that the users can edit them, and finally they want to send them via e-mail to another party. They want to send PDF document generated from that HTML. So I need to convert the HTML to PDF. Till now we did that with FOP and a xsl file we found(I don't remember where from) and improved a bit. However it becomes hard to maintain.
    Searching around the forum and Google I found out about HTMLDoc, but it is not appropriate because FAQ states that currently it cannot embed other fonts than preset ones, and I need cyrillic font support. I tried several virtual printers that print to PDF file, but I want to escape from the HTML look - like table borders, etc.
    I need a pointer to an appropriate product. Preferrably a pure java library, cross-platform because we will soon migrate from Windows to Linux, with support for external font embedding (like fop and iText). I am not limited to using only opensource and free libraries, it can be a commercial licence one.
    Please share your experience in this area and guide me to a good library
    Thanks for your time
    Mike

    Thanks for that idea ChuckBing. I will download OpenOffice and try this, it sounds good because OpenOffice seems to support both Linux and Windows.
    Unfortunately the adobe online solution turned out not to be applicable for our case since there are customers that don't have access to Internet, besides there was a note on the site that currently only US and Canada are supported(but maybe I read it wrong)??
    Thanks to all - kylias, MOD, DrClap and ChuckBing - for your participation. If OpenOffice does not solve the problem I intend to continue following the FOP path.

  • Looking for a convertor from HTML to PDF with J2SE

    Hi all,
    My current project would generate some XML data and display it on the web. Needless to say I have to prepare a matching set of XSL to transform the XML into HTML. I got that part done.
    However, my project also requires a PDF output of the same XML data for download. Well, I planned to do the XSL-fo stuff on it as well. But at some point the client thought since new kind of XML data may be added and it's too troublesome to maintain 2 sets of XSLs, they are requesting a converter to translate HTML directly into PDF now.
    I've searched the web, and found a few converter. But all of them are written in C and can't be embeded directly into my Java code. And my servlet might not have rights to call an external program on the production machine.
    I would appreciate very much if anyone can share their experience on similar issue, using a Java component to convert HTML into PDF. Suggestion of commercial products or open source freeware are all welcome.
    Thank you very much.

    You can use OpenOffice.org, running as a server and command it remotely for document convertion.
    Besides HTML to PDF, there are also possible other convertions:
    doc --> pdf, html, txt, rtf
    xls --> pdf, html, csv
    ppt --> pdf, swf
    Code example:
    import officetools.OfficeFile; // this is my tools package
    FileInputStream fis = new FileInputStream(new File("c:/test.html"));
    FileOutputStream fos = new FileOutputStream(new File("c:/test.pdf"));
    // suppose OpenOffice.org runs on localhost, port 8100
    OfficeFile f = new OfficeFile(fis,"localhost","8100", true);
    f.convert(fos,"pdf");
