HTML Web Content overlay - Android

Hey guys,
I am having an issue with a HTML Web Content overly swipe gallery with Native Android viewer.
The overlay is the second state of a MSO. The HTML is working as it should, but the 'close' button on the the second state that should make the MSO go to the first state doesn't work.
It is like the web content overlay is sitting on top of the DPS button. Everything is working in iOS.
Any ideas or known issues with Native Android viewer and HTML overlays???
Cheers,
Nathan

You'll need to look at alternative solutions on Android if you want to get content out now. It's not an easy change to make due to the nature of HTML on Android and will take us some time to figure out what to do, or if it's even possible to resolve.

  • How to make a VR html file autoplay via the Web Content overlay

    Hello,
We have created a VR using Object2VR and have loaded the .html file via the Web Content Overlay panel in InDesign CS5.5.
We want this VR to play automatically on page load, so we have checked the box 'aut play' in the Web Content overlay panel, but it won't play automatically.
We've tried switching the auto play off in Object 2VR and switching it on in the Web Content overlay and vice versa and also with both on, but still we cannot get it to autoplay.
Any suggestions? Is this a bug?
    thanks,
    AG

DPS is no longer supported in 5.5 you need Indesign 6 or Creative Cloud.
Set you auto play delay for the web overlay to something other than zero seconds, 0.125 works, if it is set to zero seconds. Leave the auto play enabled for the VR.

  • How to fit HTML into a web content overlay?

How can I fit a 640px x 960px HTML generated from Adobe Animate into a Web content overlay with 640x x 960x dimension graphic frame?
When I uncheck the "scale content to frame" option, the HTML was scaled up--cropping 3/4ths of the image. But with the scale content frame option selected, the HTML was scaled down showing the whole image but on a 1/3rd scale.
The article format is set to PDF.

I assume you mean Edge Animate.
What version of ID? Did you fully patch Edge to 1.0.1?
If you have CS6 you can just place the OAM file.

  • Web Content Overlay Link to the HTML Resources

    Hi guys,
Does anyone know what should go inside of "URL or File" field for the Web Content overlay if I need file from the HTMLResources.zip?
DPS documentation is very unclear/confusing (e.g. there is no ".html" at the end):
For the file inside of HTMLResources.zip with this path:
    HTMLResources.zip/Cartoons/train1.html
    Documentation (https://helpx.adobe.com/digital-publishing-suite/help/hyperlink-overlays.html#link_to_asse ts_in_the_html_resources_folder) has:
Web Content overlays are nested two levels deeper than an HTML article. Example:
    <a href=”../../../HTMLResources/Cartoons/train1”>See Train Cartoon Gallery</a>
I'm getting an error "File URL for web content is missing or does not exist" if I enter this inside of the "URL or File" field:
    ../../../HTMLResources/Cartoons/train1
    Thank you for your help,
    Gennady

    Thank you, joev and Bob,
Update to the text below: I just realized that documentation explains how to call some file from the HTML content of the Web Content Overlay, not how to get the HTML content inside the Web Content Overlay. I can probably do redirect to the train1.html from plain HTML code inserted into Web Content Overlay. So there is no way to use link to the file as for the http://webServerPath/Cartoons/train1.html?
We have 1 html file that uses 1 image file, both files inside the folder inside HTMLResources.zip and I need to display that html, so:
    HTMLResources.zip/Cartoons/train1.html
    HTMLResources.zip/Cartoons/train1.png - referenced inside train1.html
If I use http URL, e.g.
    http://webServerPath/Cartoons/train1.html
then everything works, if I try to set that URL to the HTMLResources:
    ../../../HTMLResources/Cartoons/train1
    or
    ../../../HTMLResources/Cartoons/train1.html
I'm getting an error, even documentation explains what link should be used.
Workaround when we just use the local HTML folder also works.
    Thank you!

  • Displaying HTML in a Web Content Overlay

I have an article created in Indesign. I add a frame holder and create a web content overlay with a local html file and allow user interaction selected. When I preview the folio in either content viewer or on an iPad the html only appears after you click/tap the frame holder. Is this by design? If so, is there a way to have the html visible when the article is loaded (displayed) without a click/tap?
    Thanks
    Joe

Thanks Neil. That is not what I expected. My reading lead me to believe auto play was for mostly animations. I did try it with a 0 second delay and had no change. Why does the.125 second delay make it work? Trying to understand.
    Thanks Again.

  • Invalid URL for Web Content Overlay. Help?

I am doing a french tranlation to an existing folio app that someone else created.
There is one page in my folio that is comprised of garbage and a trash can. You touch the garbage and drag it into the trash, and things change, etc.
I have an index.html file and a bunch of other images.
I can't even successfully add the article to my folio, I get this warning: Content Generator Error. Invalid URL for Web Content Overlay.
Can you walk me through how to get this to work?
Attached is a screen shot of my file structure...

When you specify the .html file, all the content in that folder is uploaded automatically. Here's an article about Web Content overlays:

  • Web Content overlay error

Not sure why I am getting this error all of a sudden, but when I try to create a Web Content overlay by linking to a local html file I am getting a "Scrip Alert: Invalid URL for Web Content Overlay".
This isn't making any sense to me. A few days ago I successfully created a folio while creating a Web Content overlay with a local file and now this morning I am trying to link to the same html file the exact same way and it's not working.
I am using InDesign CS 5.5 on Windows 7 64-bit. Any ideas?
    Thanks in advance!

Figured it out! totally by mistake, there had been an object that was pasted into the file that was filled with a PMS color. Once I converted that PMS color to an RGB process color that took care of the script error.
    weird!

  • Web Content Overlay - iFrame Width Issue

I'm adding a web content overlay in one of my articles. I've created and hosted a webpage that contains an iFrame of a Google Form.
When I select my text frame in the article, apply the Web Content Overlay option, add the URL, and load/test the folio on my iPad, the iFrame width I set in my html file isn't taking effect. The web overlay isn't displaying (and wrapping the text and form) according to the width that I specified in the html file. Testing the html file in different browsers on my desktop shows a change in width, but not so on the web content overlay frame in my article. Vertical scrolling is working just fine but I'd like to have a narrower width for the form so that a user only scrolls vertically; instead of having to scroll left/right to read more information on the form.
I've tried editing the iFrame width in the code: inside the iframe element, adding a div wrapper, defining a table width... No adjustments in the html seem to be rendering correctly on iPad.
And I'm not a huge fan of the Web Content Overlay's option of Adjusting content to fit the frame since it makes the form very small.
I'm running on CS5.5; I haven't tested the direct embed into
    Any help is greatly appreciated!

Try to paste the code directly into InDesign. Sometimes it creates better results than just using a web overlay. I'm also dealing with some similar problem trying to get SoundCloud into the document.

  • Autoplay on page load doesn't work in Web content overlays

I would like an audio file to play in a web content overlay and can't manage to make it play automatically when page loads. Because of different complications I can use neither the html-stack nor the audio overlay in Indesign. When I test the html file used in the web content overlay in safari on my computer it works but not inside the app.
I have also set the frame with the web content in  indesign to "autoplay" in the overlay creator. This makes the audioplayer in the web content overlay visible on the page, but you still have to push the play button to start the music.
Has anybody had the same problem and solved it?

Apple does not allow autoplay within HTML, to avoid high data costs. There
might be a workaround using javascript, but you need to search for it.

  • Suppression of nav bars (chrome) in web-content overlays

We've started to experiment with creating interactive content within folios, using web content overlays and HTML5/AJAX.
Problem is the nav bars/chrome (whatever you want to call them) in Adobe Viewer pop up constantly, and unpredictably - for instance, the chrome will appear the *first* time an HTML button is clicked, but not on subsequent occasions. For other <div> elements that have onclick handlers attached, the nav always seems to appear.
Does anyone have any insight into possible ways of suppressing the nav bars completely for web-content user interaction? Judging by the behaviour of HTML buttons, it seems there has been some effort put into this on Adobe's part, but some concrete insight would be brilliant.
    Cheers,
    David (Boto Media).

I have already come across these "solutions".
I am on v27 and have been since its release.
I have tried method number one.  It partially works however it is buggy.  When the overlay initially loads, it flashes the Twitter URL before showing the feed in the overlay frame on the article.  Additionally, it sometimes flashes back and forth from the Twitter Feed's URL and displaying the feed itself.  This, for me is not a wholly valid solution but it will do for now since the only thing that remotely works. I suspect the URL flash has alot to do with the network connectivity of the device one is viewing the feed on.  However, to flash that URL before the feed loads makes the overlay appear buggy.
And the second method most definitely crashes ID ever single time I attempt to preview the overlay either on desktop or iPad.  And I have tried this method on several different machines, thinking it was my copy of ID.  It still crashes upon preview, so mehtod two is not a valid solution at all, unless there is something special that needs to be in the HTML file (besides the twitter widget) for it to not crash ID, that I am unaware of.
    Thank you for your assistance.

  • Web Content overlay crashing! Help?

Everytime I try to use the Web Content overlay, InDesign CS 5.5 crashes. Working in Mac OS 10.6.8, for what it's worth.
I have a local html file that should display an RSS feed. When I try to bring it into my InDesign file with the Web Content overlay, everything seems fine until I try to save or preview; that's when InDesign spins and spins and spins until it crashes. I've tried much simpler html (just a black box that should appear on the screen) just to test, but it still won't work.
    Here are my steps:
    1. Create local html file and test in browser. No problems.
    2. Within InDesign document, create bounding box to exact size or larger of what the html file will take up. No problems.
    3. Using the Web Content overlay, choose my local html file to go in the box. Autoplay on. No problems.
    4. Preview or save. CRASH.
Am I doing something wrong? Is anyone else having this issue? Help?

I have been getting exactly the same thing happening. I worked on this months ago and gave up eventually.
I tried again yesterday and after a few crashes I got this to work. Not sure exactly what fixed it as I tried many things but here is a rundown. I did get multiple crashes but persisted this time.
I made a new document to house my animation, it was 200 x 400 pixels (size does not matter as long as its consistent - see further on).
I created the animation in Indesign CS 5.5 and tested. Once I was happy I exported the FLA into a folder. Not sure if this helped in any way but I moved the Indesign doc into the same folder.
I used Wallaby to point to the FLA and converted it into HTML5 and saved all the elements into the same folder. I dropped the .html onto the browser and it worked fine.
I then drew a frame in my Indesign doc exactly the same size as previous, ie 200 x 400 pixels (again not sure if this had any effect on fixing the issue but it worked for me). I used overlay creator/web content to point to the .html file. I saved the folio and uploaded it to DPS.
When I checked this on the iPad it works fine.
Again, not sure how or what exactly fixed this but it works.
Could just be that the more you try it the less it crashes and eventually works. :-s
    Hope this helps.

  • Web content overlay doesn't always open in the in-app browser

We are using a web content overlay in a small frame to show a series of social media share buttons. It works beautifully most of the time - when the user taps the img, the in-app browser slides up from the bottom and the share page is ready to go. Sometimes though, for no apparent reason, the share page loads inside our tiny 200x50px frame. Here's a simplified sample of the code from our index.html file that we link to:
    <div> <a href="http://www.sharesitegoeshere.com/facebook" target="_blank"><img src="facebook.png" alt="Facebook" width="40" height="40" border="0" /></a></div>
    <div> <a href="http://www.sharesitegoeshere.com/twitter" target="_blank"><img src="facebook.png" alt="Facebook" width="40" height="40" border="0" /></a></div>
    <div> <a href="http://www.sharesitegoeshere.com/pinterest" target="_blank"><img src="facebook.png" alt="Facebook" width="40" height="40" border="0" /></a></div>
    <div> <a href="mailto:?subject=Check%20out%20this%20story%20&body=%0A%0Ahttp%3A%2F%2Fsharesitegoes here.com" target="_blank"><img src="email.png" alt="Email" /></a></div>
Here's some examples of the web overlay opening inside the small frame instead of the browser:
It seems like the first time we try the share button from a new article, it loads in the frame instead of the in-app browser, but every time after it behaves correctly. Is there any way to prevent this?

I've had this problem too. Here's a solution from my notes:
    <UL><LI>Note on moving items
<P>Sometimes the blue "move up" arrow
    disappears or stops working (as
expected). The reason is usually that
the regions "Group By" and "Sort By"

  • Can't interact with Web Content Overlay when article is zoomed in

I have a problem with Web Content Overlay. It's working (interacting) only when article is viewed in 1:1 scale. Articles are added as PDF's, and when i do pinch zoom on them - Web Content Overlay stops reacting on click events.
Is it a general WCO limitation?
Can article with Web Content Overlay be zoomed in and still give user the ability to play with HTML content?

    Hello,
'''Try Firefox Safe Mode''' to see if the problem goes away. Safe Mode is a troubleshooting mode, which disables most add-ons.
''(If you're not using it, switch to the Default theme.)''
    * You can open Firefox 4.0+ in Safe Mode by holding the '''Shift''' key when you open the Firefox desktop or Start menu shortcut.
    * Or open the Help menu and click on the '''Restart with Add-ons Disabled...''' menu item while Firefox is running.
''Once you get the pop-up, just select "'Start in Safe Mode"''
'''''If the issue is not present in Firefox Safe Mode''''', your problem is probably caused by an extension, and you need to figure out which one. Please follow the [[Troubleshooting extensions and themes]] article for that.
''To exit the Firefox Safe Mode, just close Firefox and wait a few seconds before opening Firefox for normal use again.''
''When you figure out what's causing your issues, please let us know. It might help other users who have the same problem.''
    Thank you.

  • Web content overlay: that blasted spinning wheel

    OK,
    I need some pointers.
I am placing in animations made with Adobe Edge and they look good, however, onload you see a spinning wheel until the content loads in. I am looking to disable that spinning wheel.
    How do I do this?
How does The Wired magazine do it? How do they have visusally rich content without that blasted wheel?
All and any help, gratefully received!
    Billy.

I figured out a way of hiding the spinning wheel, but it's a bit dodgy in a round-about way... It would be great if DPS can actually give us the option of disabling this feature.
I placed the Web Content Overlay object (that contains the HTML file) into an MSO. The first State is a blank object and the second state is the object that contains the HTML file.
My settings for the MSO is:
    Tick: Autoplay
    Delay: 0.5 sec
    Interval: 0.125 sec
    Play: 1 time
    Tick: Stop at last image
    Tick: Cross Fade
    Speed: 1 sec
    Export Format: Vector
My settings for the Web Content Overlay is:
    Tick: Autoplay
    Delay: 0 sec
    Tick: Transparent Background
    Tick: Allow User Interaction
Let me know if this works for you too!
(But please Adobe, please give DPS the option of disabling the spinning wheel).

  • Web content overlay - always "on top"?

    Hi
In my Indesign DPS doc, I have a top later with content and a second bottom layer with some html 5 animation showing within a web content overlay box.
Everything previews well, except the overlay content always seems to be "on top".  guess this makes semse since it is really just a "web window" but I thought I would ask since it will impact my designs moving forward...
    Thank you-
    S

Overlays always rise to the top, which is why they're called overlays. If you want to cover part of an overlay, you need to use another overlay. A common approach is to create a 2-state MSO with two identical images and auto play set to 1.
