HTMLDB / oracle fax capability

Does anyone know if HTMLDB ( or the oracle db 10g ) has any built into fax capability ? ex: the user presses button and a blob or text can be sent to a fax number -
any help is appreciated !

You have email capability built in to HTMLDB. If you have an email interface to your fax server then use that.

Yes.
Go to System Preferences > Network.
At Show:, select Network Port Configurations.
Make sure the Internal Modem port configuration is selected.
Go to System Preferences > Print & Fax.
Under the Faxing tab, if you want to receive faxes select Receive faxes on this computer and choose your preferred settings for receiving.
You can also select Show fax status in menu bar.
Copied from Mac Help on my Mac with a search with Fax:
Choose File > Print, and then choose Fax PDF from the PDF pop-up menu.
Type the fax number in the To field, or click the Address Book button to the right of the To field to select a number.
If your phone system requires you to dial a prefix for an outside line, type it in the the Dialing Prefix field.
Make sure the correct modem is selected from the Modem pop-up menu.
To change your options, choose the option category from the Fax Cover Page pop-up menu. For example, to fax more than one copy of the document, choose Copies & Pages, and change the value in the Copies field.
Click Fax.
The fax is sent as soon as your modem is available. For example, if you're using your modem to connect to the Internet, the fax is sent after you disconnect from your Internet service provider.
If you want to paste a number into the To field and the Edit > Paste command is not available, Control-click the and choose Paste from the menu that appears.
To send a cover page with your fax, click the Use Cover Page checkbox, and then type a subject and message in the text boxes.
To choose your modem's behavior when faxing, choose Modem from the Fax Cover Page pop-up menu. You can choose whether to dial with touch tones or pulse tones, whether to listen to the modem as it dials, and whether to wait for a steady dial tone before dialing.
To send your fax at a later time, choose Scheduler from the Fax Cover Page pop-up menu and enter the time. Make sure your computer is on, is not in sleep mode, and is connected to your phone line at that time.
If you have a set of options that you frequently use, save it as a "preset." After you set your options, choose Save As from the Presets pop-up menu. To use this set of options when faxing another document, choose its name from the Presets pop-up menu.

TS3147 I seem to have lost fax capability with Snow Leopard. Does not appear in Print as before. Cant find fax in system Preferences. No drivers for fax found Bob Wines.

I've tried this with Mac OS X v10.8 Mountain Lion and it works fine.
I've to type "cupsctl WebInterface=yes" in terminal to see the interface.
Does anybody know, if send faxes are saved somewhere?

Fax capability no longer works

When I bought this iMac G5 it had OS 10.3.9. The ability to send and receive faxes in the computer worked fine.
Then I upgraded the system to OS10.6.8. Ever since the upgrade the fax capability does not work. When I attempt to send a fax it never initiates the phone call. I have checked the settings in System Preferences and it shows the internal modem as "idle" but has a green dot, indicating the modem is being recognized. And yes, I have verified that the computer is connected to a working phone line. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Info from system profiler about the modem is:
Modem Model: Jump
Interface Type: I2S
Modulation: V.92
Hardware Version: Version 1.0
Driver: MotorolaSM56K.kext (v1.3.9)
Country: United States, Latin America

I was experiencing a similar problem, although in my case the modem appears to send but will not answer calls. I have the internal Apple Modem (shows as MicroDash in system profiler IIRC and the driver was internalUSBModem.kext)
I happened to have 10.4 on another drive, the fax did answer calls when booted when I booted from that. I completely erased and reinstalled 10.5.0 on the main drive and when booted from that drive the fax recognized incoming calls and answered. However, after allowing System Update to install 10.5.8 (and a number of other things) the fax seemed to stop answering.
I had a Time Machine backup from 10.5.5 and restored that. No answer, which was strange because I was sure there were faxes in the received folder from after when 10.5.5 would have been installed. So I reinstalled 10.5.0 this time keeping the user files etc, ie not erasing the drive. The fax answered.
I did a manual update to 10.5.4. At first I thought it didn't answer, but perhaps I was impatient. I changed the Answer after rings field and retried and it answered.
I did a manual update to 10.5.5 and again to 10.5.6, and the fax answered these time as well. (I also ran the System Update to install the current versions of Quicktime, iLife support and iTunes, skipping the 10.5.8 update and anything else other than the three I mentioned and the fax still worked)
I suspect there was a permission problem, file deleted kind of problem with my 10.5.5 backup. I didn't have the time to do the manual updated to 10.5.7 and then 10.5.8 to confirm my first finding (perhaps I was just impatient or the system reset the answer rings etc)
(BTW I assume you meant 10.5.8 not 10.6.8)
I would suggest reinstalling 10.5.0 (choosing the keep user files option) and see if that cures your problem. If it does, you can follow the same path of manual updates I did to see how far you can get.
Other places to look are the console logs. You might see some error messages here which give a clue as to what's going wrong.

Relocate Linux box(HTMLDB,Oracle 10g db) to Another location

We have Linux box in one are we want to move it to another area ,we are planing to keep the name of the server the same but the IP adress willl change.
This Box has 4 oracle 10g databases
Oracle application server
Oracle HTMLDB application.
What will be the effect of changing the IP address on these componets.
I f you have any ideas please let me know, there not going to be any testing so i have to figure out all risks before we do this.

Not sure of app server if you have hardcoded ip references. If you are using the embedded plsql gateway, there will be no problems.
Either way, the changes will not be a big deal.

Oracle Auditing Capability

In one of our project we need to define audit trail for all transaction tables As per the requirements, we need to log in some audit trail table the following information
- Old and New value of the column
- userid who executed the SQL
- Transaction type – INSERT, UPDATE or DELETE
- Current Timestamp
In past, we used to create database trigger attached to each table that gets fired once a column is touched in case of SQL INSERT, UPDATE or DELETE statement. This solution as you understand is home grown one that come up with its own limitations like defining trigger in each table and maintaining trigger code each time a column is dropped or added .
The question is does Oracle Release 10.g come with any such out of the box audit trail capabilities that can be enabled by SYS ADMIN to record any row data change that we could achieve without writing any trigger code.
Could you please advice on 10G Oracle Audit capabilities ?

Assuming that the USERID you're interested in is the Oracle user that is logged in (rather than, say, an application ID that has been defined on the middle tier), there are a number of options.
One option that I tend to push particularly in 10g (but that was available in 9i as well) is Workspace Manager. You can use Workspace Manager to version-enable a table, and Oracle will automatically generate triggers that store off the old and new versions of each row in historical tables. Workspace Manager also provides some rather cool additional functionality, like the ability to run an arbitrary query as of an arbitrary point in time in the past (assuming all the tables involved are version-enabled and assuming you haven't purged the history for some reason), which can be invaluable for debugging purposes.

Of course, you can also use other tools like Oracle's built-in auditing or something like Audit Vault depending on your precise business needs.

I want to uninstall my fax capability - and ONLY be able to scan, print.

Recently I found I was not able to print, so I want to: make sure I have ink in my cartridges; uninstall my fax function so that I am only able to scan and print.

Please read this post then provide some details. What printer model? What operating system?
In general you would go to the Printers folder (in Windows 7 go to Start, Devices and Printer), then right click on the FAX instance and select Remove Device. You will also want to make sure the printer device is your default, right click on it and select "Set as Default Printer".
As for not being able to print, running the diagnostics at http://www.hp.com/go/tools may help resolve the issue.

Fax capability and FileMaker compatibility in Lion

I am currently running the latest version of Snow Leopard and would like to move to Lion. I still receive a number of faxes each year and I am using FileMaker 10 Advanced. I have heard that Lion may not support faxing even though I have a USB fax modem. The FileMaker sire is very quiet on whether or not FileMaker 10 will run under 10.7. Apparently FileMaker 11 is supported under 10.7. Does anyone have answers to either of these questions?

I'm afraid you'll have to wait until tomorrow when Lion is released. Those that do know are still under non-disclosure and cannot discuss it. You shouldn't have to wait long though, Apple announced today that Lion will be released tomorrow.

Chances are it is a software-based modem. Update the drivers of the device to Mavericks-compatible driver from the vendor.

HTMLDB as Partner Application to TWO OID instances - Authentication Schemes

For reasons I won't go into here, we have TWO Oracle OID/SSO instances running - independently.
I am interested in having HTMLDB / APEX applications capable of authenticate against either one. (one at a time, but on the same engine installation)
We have done the PARTNER APPLICATION registration which works well against one of the OID instances. Records have been entered into the WWSEC_ENABLER_CONFIG_INFO$ table and everything works as expected.
What option do I have to register the HTMLDB engine with a SECOND OID/SSO as a partner application and then allow the developers the ability to choose which authentication scheme applies?
What I have observed is that the package given (custom_auth_sso) has built in
g_partner_app_name varchar2(2000) := 'HTML_DB';
Is it possible to duplicate that type of functionality, or is there something deeper ingrained into the engine that I do not understand?

I am working under a model similar to your case number two.
Application 1 uses OID A
Application 2 uses OID B
I am going under the assumption that if there were two records in the config_info$ table, that I would need some type of ability to inform the WWV_FLOW_CUSTOM_AUTH_SSO package to switch between them.
I guess what I am missing is the mechanics. I am trying to avoid having to re-write the WWV_FLOW_CUSTOM_AUTH_SSO package by hand. Besides the package body being compiled, I do not know how that authentication scheme is called by HTMLDB/APEX. I have been using the Oracle Application Server Single Sign-On (HTML DB Engine as Partner App) scheme. This leaves most of the Authentication scheme pretty blank with the exception of the Session Not Valid URL ( populated with PORTAL_SSO-) and the logout URL. Magically it works though.
If I had TWO schemes registered in the config_info$, how would I indicate which scheme to use?
Do I have the capability of working with what has already been provided, or am I destined to writing a custom scheme because of the decision which needs to be made?

Fax Integration for PO Approval WF R12.1.2

Hi All,
My third party IO team has configured this workflow for Fax integration, now when a PO is approved a Fax is getting triggered with Standard PO Communication report output.
But we need the custom report to be triggered in its place. I am analyzing the possibilities for this. Please help me if any one know the method for this or what should I request the IO team.
my onsite team provieded only info that, a control file is getting genereated for this Faxing process which is main file for it.

PC-FAX phone number input

Is there a way to do this with a Brother MCF-9340CDW that doesn't involve manually entering the number? Currently, I access the Fax window from the Print window, by clicking on the drop-down menu below the Pages: From: lines. I can't even copy and paste from Contacts because the number format with the () is rejected.
Before getting this printer I used a cheap USB fax-modem that was less than reliable. I accessed it from the PDF drop-down menu, and had full access to my Contacts from that menu. At least I don't have to send faxes frequently, because this is a PITA.

SQL report region and search capability

1) I have a report and I would like to be able to cat two fields together but the problem occurs is that the query will no longer search for that field once they are "catted " together.. The field is a combo of staff id (initials) and the full name, when you search it will find staff_id but it will not search on name.

I tried doing this column1 || '--' || column2 but when I tried to run the report it gave me an error and says all variables are not bound. How to run Oracle Report in new window

Hi,
There appear to be many threads regarding this issue, but so far I've been unable to piece together a solution to my problem.
My requirements are quite simple really.
- Invoke an Oracle Report from an HTMLDB page
- Pass parameters form the page to the report URL
- Run the report in a new window
I have created a simple example at:

I've tried putting this in a branch but I get a 'Page can not be displayed' error.

I'm trying to invoke an oracle report through a button in apex2.2. Please let me know how to display the report in a new window.
I have put the URL as of now in the branch of the button, and the report is getting displayed in the same window.
I've read some of the posts and put the URL as the target of the button instead of a branch and also used the javascript:popupURL(), but it still doesnt work for me. The URL works fine without the javascript.
