HTMLResources for folio file

Hi!
Dear Common Wisdom:
I am presently distributing folio files via the built-in inDesign 5 and do not have a DPS subscription.
We used to be able to upload an "HTMLResources.zip" in acrobat.com, but this is no longer the practice.
I need to add new resources to a folio I am currently already sharing.
What can I do?
Thanks!
CJ

Uploading the HTMLResources.zip should be possible when you log in to
digitalpublishing.acrobat.com, accessible even without a DPS subscription.

  • IOS Newsstand app, add support for .folio files

    Hello!
We have an iOS Newsstand app to provide our issues to our clients, and we use a PDF reader.
We would like to add support for .folio files in the app, by using a folio reader in our app.
Searching around, I've only found the specifications for the .folio files and the Adobe Content Viewer app.
Is it possible to have some more specific information on how we can make something like the Adobe Content Viewer app that we can integrate in our app?
For example how we would parse the xml files, what views/controls to use (eg. UIWebview?) etc.
    Thank you very much!

    Neil let clear something:
    - After the .folio specification became public (with license off course) the "This really isn't possible to do" is not truth.
I believe that what people need to know is that: "Are we allowed to build a viewer?" / "Does Adobe allow programmers to give it a go?"
Before March this wasn't allowed but since the spec became public we all hope (and I believe Adobe too) that this format will have an industry standard acceptance - like the PDF. In this case many people will try to create  viewers, software, builders etc.
The DPS is a great platform but VERY EXPENSIVE. Companies around the world have developed and are in a position to develop great experiences and great apps. Sharing the .folio is big and this is what we need to clear - and not the number of staff working on the DPS Viewer.
    Thank you in advanced.

  • How long can you share a folio file for and how many people simultaneously

    Hi There,
Questions per above title, can you share a folio file via the content viewer for an unlimited time?  How many people could you share it with simultaneously?
As well I am trying to understand do you have to pay for DPS (and if so can it just be the single version) to be able to share a .folio file through the content viewer.  Can you just have in design 5.5+.
In addition, if the .folio file is set up for Ipad distribution when shared will it be formatted and fully usable/interactive through the content viewer by the person you are showing it to on the ipad?
    Any help is appreciated.

You do not need to pay to share a folio file via the content viewer.
I'm not aware of any limits on how long a folio can be shared to, or how many e-mails a folio can be shared to.
And yes, on the interactivity question.

  • Create single .folio file for desktop viewing

    Hi,
I need a bit of help here please. We are currently on issue 2 of our iPad magazine: https://itunes.apple.com/gb/app/absolute-photo-magazine/id719597521?mt=8
We are trying to create a version of our app that Advertisers can view on all platforms (iPad & Desktop). What we have done is created a delegate account and from the folio builder panel, we have shared the specific folio with that delegate and emailed the login credentials to certain advertisers. This allows them to view it using Content viewer on an iPad.
I am also trying to export the .folio file in order to send this out to specific people to view using Content Viewer on desktop (PC & MAC). In the example here http://www.e3zine.com/desktopviewer.html there is a single .folio file but when I use the export function within the Publishing Suite it exports a zip file which contains all articles as individual .folio files. Is there any way of exporting this folio as one single .folio file?
    Thanks
    Dean

    Hi,
Thanks for your response. I will try the solution for windows users. However, for Mac desktop users this is supported by DPS as shown in this example:
http://www.e3zine.com/desktopviewer.html where I was able to download a .folio file and preview it in Content Viewer on my iMac. I have been able to export my published folio from the publishing suite into a zip folder on my desktop which contains a series of .folio files that are all viewable within content viewer for desktop. The question is how to create one single .folio file like in the example rather than a series of .folio files?
    Thanks
    Dean

  • Distribute .folio files for free

Hello, I have one question: can I share a .folio files for free (for reading with Adobe Content viewer), without having any DPS license?

rvdiziner:  As it has been pointed out by Bob Bringhurst
"When you use the digital publishing tools, there is no reason to use acrobat.com. It works for the time being, but it's not supported."
His quote is from the context of an error message discussion :http://forums.adobe.com/thread/859156?tstart=0
Using the DPS dashboard is the appropriate way to edit and organize your folio files (https://digitalpublishing.acrobat.com).  If you read the official documentation is says nothing about going onto Acrobat.com workspace to edit your files --You do use your Acrobat.com signin as your inital folio builder signin and the content viewer signin.  In some instances you can create problems by editing them within acrobat.com rather than the DPS dashboard.  So its worth mentioning that its more of "workaround" rather than a "workflow".  It is an amazing way to preview the product before purchasing it.

  • Reconstitute a .folio File for Edit in ID

Is there a way to open a .folio file that was exported from the DPS cloud and edit it using InDesign?
What should I do if the laptop that has all of our in-progress InDesign files goes missing?
    Thanks,
    Seth

unfortunately not. You wil have to recreate the source files (inDesign). Good thing is that you can now relink them to the folio file so you don't have to delete and re add the articles.

  • Add all files in the path while creating folio file in Folio builder

    Hello everyone.
I am using InDesign CS 5 and creating folio for iPad 2. My Folio builder was working fine till last week, but suddenly i see a change the way it behaves. When I update the files in Folio builder, it adds all the files in the path (not just the links in the file) including source PSD files and other related files which I have never used in the InDesign, making the folio file increase in size. Can someone please help me how to overcome this situation?
    Thank a lot in advance.
I look forward for your solution.

Do you have an HTML file in there? If so, put it it (and its assets) in its own folder.

  • Folio file size

My project is to convert an 800 page Indesign print catalog into a DPS folio. I have 14 out of 26 articles completed and received a message on my iPad saying I was almost out of space message while previewing in Content Viewer. When I deleted it from Content Viewer it is just over 11gb and when I looked at the local resource on hard drive it is 5.75gb. Ughhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh. Is it typical for the Content Viewer file to be twice the size of the local file? Which is a better indicator of what to expect for a finished project?
This is obviously way too large. How can I make this a more manageable size? First, this has a dual orientation. The vertical is produced first, then an alternate layout is created for the horizontal. The vertical is deleted and the layout is saved as _h. Would having only one orientation reduce my overall size significantly? Each article's individual .folio file size ranges from 400mb-600mb. It was my understanding that Folio Builder compressed/converted all images used in the articles. Do I need to convert all of the high resolution print images into low resolution?
    Thanks,
    Joe

On further inspection, I found my problem. It appears to be a web content overlay. An article's .folio file is 482mb with this layer in the Indesign layout file and only 5.3mb when removed from the Indesign layout file.
The content associated with the overlay is 2 HTML files at 2kb each and images, css, and javascript totaling 524kb.
Why does this create over a 900% increase in the file size?
    How can I fix this?
Will an html resources folder work? I thought that was only for html articles.

  • Folio file size limit

In the past their were file size limits for folios and folio resources. I believe folios and their resources could not go over 100MB.
Is their a file size limit to a folio and its resources? What is the limit?
What happens if the limit is exceeded?
    Dave

Article size is currently capped at 2GB. We've seen individual articles of up to 750MB in size but as mentioned previously you do start bumping into timeout issues uploading content of that size. We're currently looking at implementing a maximum article size based on the practical limitations of upload and download times and timeout values being hit.
This check will be applied at article creation time and you will not be allowed to create articles larger than our maximum size. Please note that we are working on architecture changes that will allow the creation of larger content but that will take some time to implement.
Currently to get the best performance you should have all your content on your local machine (Not on a network drive), shut down any extra applications, get the fastest machine you can, with the most memory. The size of article is direclty proportional to the speed at which you can bundle an article and get it uploaded to the server.

  • Large folio file size

We are half way through a book that comprises 100 single page articles. However it is already nearly 500 MB and this isn't sustainable.
Does the following affect the file size:
Is the Folio file size affected by the number of individual articles, would it be smaller if we had stacks of say 10 articles each with 10 pages rather than 100 single pages?
Every page has a two picture (JPG) object state, the first image is an extreme elargement of the image that visible only for a about a second before the full frame image appears. Each page has a caption using Pan overlay that can be dragged into the page using a small tab.Does an Object State increase the file size over and above the images contained within it?
We have reduced the JPGs to the minimum acceptable quality and there is no video in the Folio.
Any ideas would be much appreciated?

800 MB worth of video sounds crazy.
Of course, a high number of videos can bring you to that.
I saw bigger dps apps. I think the apple limit lies around 4 gb (remember,
that is more than 25% of a whole 16 gb iPad)
The mp4 video codec does a really good job while keeping the quality high.
And the human eye is more forgiving to quality when it comes to moving
    images compared to still imagery.
I wrote a collection of tipps and ideas how to reduce your file size.

  • .Folio File Format

    Hi DPS Community,
I need some clarification on the titled.
A couple of years ago, Adobe announced that they were going to offer the .Folio file format for free. Off the back of the news that Adobe are doing away with Single Edition via Creative Cloud, my mind has taken me back to this announcement.
What exactly does this mean? Can one join forces with a developer and carry on making Single Edition and, maybe, Newsstand apps?
Hopefully this all made sense? I'm just trying to find the next best alternative to Single Edition that doesn't resort to me paying a Billion bucks for another DPS service. Do you know what I mean?
    Thanks in advance :-)

In theory you could take the .folio file format specification and build a viewer to render that content. Once you actually see how much engineering time and expense that will take I suspect you will decide not to do it
There are plenty of other threads in this forum about alternatives to DPS Single Edition. A quick search should turn them up, including discussions of the pros and cons of those solutions.

  • App Signing Error, Number of Folios Does Not Match the Main Folio File

    Hi All;
I have a 250 page standalone app that I am trying to compile for the Apple Store. I read through the forums and enabled "AppBuilderLoggingEnabled.cfg" in my user directory to capture the issue. Here is the snippet of the log that was created that, to me, shows why the app isn't being signed.
46386 ERROR [main] codesign.Signer - Failure during signing

I've stripped out special characters from the article titles and re-built the app only to face the same error. I went ahead and created a new AppID in the Apple Developer Portal, created new provision files, and the error remains. I am now creating a new folio and importing the articles into the new folio to see if that will solve the "number of folios does not match" issue.
Any help or insight would be amazing. Thank you all.
    -matt

I created a new folio and imported all of the articles again. After hitting "Create App" for this new folio, at about 10 pages in a "PDF Export" error stopped the create app process. I went into InDesign to update the layout for the 10th page to see that the PDF export issue was stopping me from updating the layouts as well. Something in the InDesign file wasn't playing nice with the folio creation, so I created two new InDesign files, deleted the article, and built a new article from scratch. I was able to import the new layouts as a new article to the main folio and hit "Create App" again. This time there were no issues with the creation process. I synched up the provision files in App Builder and was able to code sign the application.
I guess the moral of the story is to double and even triple check every article along the way to make sure there are no issues being introduced into the process that will ultimately cause headaches during the distribution phase of app creation!

  • No Folio File field in Viewer Builder?

For some reason I do not have a field to associate a folio file to a viewer in the Viewer Builder. This greatly impairs the user experience.
I'm using Indesign 5.5, have downloaded the most recent updates from the DPS site and have cleared the cache of my browser. I've also released an app in pre-release but this is the first one in the new interface.
The documentation in the DPS help section references the Folio File field in the Basic Settings panel of Viewer Builder but I've navigated through the Viewer Builder and see no place to actually designate the folio to be built into the viewer. What am I missing?
I can see where folios published to the account will automatically populate the viewer and from a developer standpoint maybe there isn't a need to associate a specific file to build and release the viewer itself, but the app for this viewer (that was successfully built in the DPS VB with confirmation as completed) was rejected by Apple because from their point of view it's an app with no content (no actual folio files for an end user to look at.)
    Thanks!

    Thanks for the response Bob.
Yes, multi-folio viewer is what I need for a series of digital magazines. Sorry, in pre-release the multi-folio viewer was built and pointed to a folio file as with a single viewer. The new release is fantastic, I'm not nostalgic. Just trying to troubleshoot.
After your post I assumed then that the viewer must automatically read what's been published and auto-populate the viewer. The problem was that I wasn't seeing the folio in the viewer on my ipad (loaded with iPhone Config Utility) but was seeing it through the generic Adobe Viewer. I checked certificates, settings, etc. in the viewer and everything checked out fine. I then went through publishing options.
What I found was that when the folio is set to free, it is viewable in the custom viewer we've created. When it is set to retail (we are planning on selling this issue) it is not. Has anyone else experienced this? Have I configured soemthing wrong? I re-checked documentation and don't see any additional settings needed for retail release. Is the viewer expecting some additional info from the App Store to process the display icon of the folio for purchase?

  • Upload multiple folio files in DPS

Hi i have folloved the Adobe_Publishing_Companion_Guide_for_iPad and the iTunesConnect_Guide
But nowhere in the process i needed to opload the .folio or the exprted zip file from foliobuilder.
    My question is?
Where in the DPS do i upload the .zip with the .folio files (both hd and the one for ipad 1 and 2) for my first issue?
    helen

OK then you do not have to export the folio. For Multi Folio Apps, publish as Public from Folio producer and use your folio producer id as Title id in DPS App Builder/Viewer Builder. Use renditions to publish iPad 2 and iPad 3 folios if you have already built those, else use the new pdf single format option which works great on both retina and non-retina display iPads.
Then complete your Build using APP builder. For multi issue apps, your folios are hosted by Adobe thus once you download the App, individual folios are separately downloaded directly from Adobe's Servers. Concept of exporting the folio is applicable in case of built in single issues and Single edition workflow.

  • Adobe Content Viewer app and .folio file

I created and published a .folio file on my Web server.
My boss downloaded the free Adobe Content Viewer app from iTunes for his iPad. When he tries to open the .folio file from his home screen it goes online to a browser and just shows a grey screen with an icon for the .folio file, its file size and nothing happens.
Am I missing something? The same .folio file works fine on my desktop version of Adobe Content Viewer. How do I get it to work in his app?
    Thanks.

Found some other threads. Is this right?
    1. Create my .folio file.
    2. Host on my free Acrobat.com account.
    3. Get viewer to get their own free Acrobat.com account and share doc URL with them.
    4. They download file and view in the free Adobe Content viewer app for iPad.
Would check, but I don't have access to an iPad with live internet connection (yet).
    Thanks.
