Htmltext, images and css' display property

Hi all,
I've got two questions; one about whether or not something is
natively
possible in Flash and another if there is a free or
commercial component
to fix the problem.
I know CSS/HTML in textfields is one of the weak points of
Flash, but I
still would like to clear something up (couldn' find a
definitive 'not
possible' through google).
I'm trying to display images from HTML/XML as block through
CSS in a
dynamic textField but can't seem to get it to work. I kinda
doubt
whether it is possible at all...
I've tried too many variations to display one piece of code
which fails,
but it boils down to:
* I load XML in which headings, paragraphs and images
(usually within a
paragraph) are set.
* I load CSS (or generate with AS for that matter) which
set's the
properties of the various tags.
* Images always display inline even if just one single char
fits beside
it in the field. If nothing really fits beside the image,
Flash still
places text there which is then hidden from the reader. All
attempts to
have the image's display set to block fail. Also if I try
through a
surrounding p-tag.
I tried all from XML.ignoreWiitespace,
TextField.condenseWhite, adding
p-, and br-tags. It just won't work.
If there really is no (why not?!) possibility to have it done
natively,
does anyone know of a solution (paid or free) done
previously? I can
think of some ways to make a start, but kind of don't have
the time to
make a really thorough effort...
Thanks in advance?

OK, kind of 'fixed' this one:
* parse HTML/XML for contained img-tags
* added id attribute if not present
* place HTML/XML in field
* get reference to loader object associated with the image(s)
through
TextField's getImageReference() method.
* aad eventListener to it
* on INIT or COMPLETE: retrieve height of image/loader object
* insert multiple paragraphs after image so that next actual
text
appears below image. Multiple paragraphs are inserted to
accomodate the
useage of scrollV for field, otherwise (one big paragraph)
image would
be considered as one line and scrolling would look strange...
Inserted
paragraphs have a set leading style so the number of
paragraphs to
insert can be calculated.
ugly but for me it works (at the moment). Anyone any better
solutions?
kind regards,
Manno

  • Send HTML Email with Embedded Images and CSS

    Hi All,
    I have a html page. I want to send that html page(not with attachment) with all images and css. i search and try but I cant find a good solution. can any one help... plz..........
    Thank You.....

    If you want to send the html page and have it
    reference the images and css files on your web
    site, that's pretty easy. Just create a message
    with text/html content that is your html page.
    If you want to include all the images and css files
    in your message along with the html page, you'll
    need to create a multipart/related message and
    you'll need to change all the html to reference the
    images and css files using "cid:" references.

    # Based upon the NCSA server configuration files originally by Rob McCool.
    # This is the main Apache server configuration file.  It contains the
    # configuration directives that give the server its instructions.
    # See <URL:http://httpd.apache.org/docs/2.0/> for detailed information about
    # the directives.
    # Do NOT simply read the instructions in here without understanding
    # what they do.  They're here only as hints or reminders.  If you are unsure
    # consult the online docs. You have been warned.
    # The configuration directives are grouped into three basic sections:
    #  1. Directives that control the operation of the Apache server process as a
    #     whole (the 'global environment').
    #  2. Directives that define the parameters of the 'main' or 'default' server,
    #     which responds to requests that aren't handled by a virtual host.
    #     These directives also provide default values for the settings
    #     of all virtual hosts.
    #  3. Settings for virtual hosts, which allow Web requests to be sent to
    #     different IP addresses or hostnames and have them handled by the
    #     same Apache server process.
    # Configuration and logfile names: If the filenames you specify for many
    # of the server's control files begin with "/" (or "drive:/" for Win32), the
    # server will use that explicit path.  If the filenames do *not* begin
    # with "/", the value of ServerRoot is prepended -- so "logs/foo.log"
    # with ServerRoot set to "C:/Program Files/Apache Group/Apache2" will be interpreted by the
    # server as "C:/Program Files/Apache Group/Apache2/logs/foo.log".
    # NOTE: Where filenames are specified, you must use forward slashes
    # instead of backslashes (e.g., "c:/apache" instead of "c:\apache").
    # If a drive letter is omitted, the drive on which Apache.exe is located
    # will be used by default.  It is recommended that you always supply
    # an explicit drive letter in absolute paths, however, to avoid
    # confusion.

    I am not expert in these, but please check out the following things and see whether it would solve your issue. (All these changes can be easily rolled back in case I'm wrong :). So make note of what you do)
    As per your httpd.conf, you have chosen an automatic configuration of Apache by OWCI installer itself. What it does is create an imageserver.conf file in a separate directory and these settings will be included in your httpd.conf as you can see in the first line: Include "C:/bea/alui/plumtreeconf/".
    If you check the imageserver.conf in that location, you would find a line like: Alias /imageserver/ "C:/bea/alui/ptimages/imageserver/". This aliases the original path "C:/bea/alui/ptimages/imageserver/" to /imageserver"
    To confirm whether this is done right, check the following:
    1. Acces 'http://<server ip / server name / localhost >/' from your browser
    This should display the Apache home page (as per your httpd.conf, it uses the default port 80; so no port number required)
    2. Access 'http://<server ip>/imageserver/' from your browser
    This should display the directory structure (if its not disabled) inside your 'C:/bea/alui/ptimages/imageserver/' folder. Also confirm that all the subfolders are accessible.
    3. If all the above is right, it means that your imageserver settings are right. Please check your portalconfig.xml for the correct settings: For example, <setting name="HTTPPort"> should be 7001 in your case. If its something else, change it and restart Weblogic for the settings to take effect.
    Hope this helps.

  • Kaosweaver Random Images And CSS

    I have searched all over and can't find an answer to this and have an e-mail in to the developer but figured I would ask here as well.
    I am using Kaosweaver Advanced Random Images to rotate pics on a home page in the editable content area.  The CSS style for the text in the content area is to line up on the left.  When I insert the Kaosweaver command )even if I insert it with the cursor in the middle of the page the images line up on the left of the page.  If I make a CSS rule that centers the text there is no way to apply it to the images I can tell.....except that if I go into the code and find the name of the image in the Kaosweaver code, highlight it and right click it lets me apply the CSS rule (even though I see no visible changes to the rule.  Is this OK and will it end up causing problems on different browsers etc?
    Is there another way to do it.  I could see attaching a second style sheet just for that page with items centered as there will only be one other line of text on the page so that it won't matter if everything on that one page is centered but I don't want everything on all the pages centered.
    Is there an easier way of accomplishing this.  I was surprised in Googling this that noone else seems to have this problem....am I doing something wrong?
    Thanks.
    Howard

    Thanks Murray...it isn't on line, but I can copy the code:

  • Problem with images and text displaying correctly

    I don't really know how to explain this problem and I had two screenshots ready to upload to show the before and after but we apparently can't upload photos now...SOOOO I will try my best.
    The issue began when I got a new computer at work (Windows 7 instead the Windows XP everyone else has) and was/is present for me in InDesign CS2 and since we were planning on updating to CS5, I figured that having an updated version would fix whatever issue it was. That was a wrong assumption unfortunately.
    When I open any document, all images and text are displayed properly until I scroll up/down or side-to-side and NOT using the scroll wheel for up/down. This is probably so confusing and I'm sorry I can't describe it better...the mouse I use has two programmable buttons that I set to coast up and down and to go side-to-side I can push the scroll wheel to one side or the other and it coasts that direction. When I do either of those things, the text looks like it is permanently greeked and the images look....weird lol like they are in 16 bit or something like that. To fix the problem in CS2, I have to click and hold on a text block until I am able to adjust text so that I can see it adjust in real-time. In CS5, I have to do the same basic thing except I don't have to click and hold as it does that by default (awesome feature btw!!)
    I have already updated my graphics card driver (Nvidia 9400 GT 1GB) and my processor driver (Intel Core2Duo 3.0ghz) and I have 4GB of RAM. I tried updating both CS2 and CS5 but both are updated already. I've also tried doing the whole inx. export and cleaning the preferences file or whatever that is called. Nada. If someone thinks they can help me, I can send them the two images I was going to upload here. Email me at justgeig (at) gmail (dot) com Thanks in advance!

    maybe greeked isn't the right word...i don't know how to explain it
    here is the correct view. It is much more noticable when the whole document shows this.

  • Refreshing image ( and not displaying the one in the cache )

    Hello , I made an app with many galleries stored locally but i made another section with a daily image, and this image is located on an ftp server http://XXXXX.com/image.png for example so everyday i upload the new one with the SAME name as the older one
    ( that is replaced by the newest ) , however the app is always displaying the older one , even if i restart the app , the computer or kill completely the app.
    How could i do please?
    Could i add something next to the image url (in a gallery module) to make it refresh everytime the app loads?
    PS : if you couldn't solve this problem could i put a button to refresh the image?
    Thanks
    EDIT : I reinstalled my app and changed several times the image and now it's working?
    Is it temporarily so this image will be cached and the issue will appear once more or was it a bug?

    Hello
    I don't believe you can without addressing/changing the way the image is loaded on your server.
    You have several options to remove the caching even from files you upload.
    You can for example use a .htaccess file in the folder where your image is uploaded
    (assuming your webserver is an apache server)
    <IfModule mod_expires.c>
    # Enable expirations
    ExpiresActive On
    # Default directive
    ExpiresDefault "access plus 1 day"
    # Images
    ExpiresByType image/gif "access plus 1 minute"
    ExpiresByType image/png "access plus 1 minute"
    ExpiresByType image/jpg "access plus 1 minute"
    ExpiresByType image/jpeg "access plus 1 minute"
    </IfModule>
    You can also set the header using a loading script in php, asp or whatever language your server supports (e.g. showimage.php?img=blabla.png which allows you to set the no cache header (or limited cache header) in the php header before loading it in your
    applications (works also for asp, etc.). Any searchengine will give you some inspirational examples.

  • Create an image and not display it but saving it as a gif

    hi there,
    i want to save an offImage as a gif. i have something like this (just the main lines)
    JPanel jp = new JPanel()
    Image img = jp.createImage(w,h);
    Graphics gph = img.getGraphics();
    gph.draw...
    I've got an encoder class (GifEncoder) which works just fine with an image created as in the example above.But I don't want to display the image. Just create it, draw on it and save it
    Unless i display the image (in the Panel, e.g. jp) I cannot save the picture as a gif. So I must register it with a component. Is there a way I can avoid this?
    Thank you

    I use the following which is for JPEG encoding but should work for GIF:
                                  BufferedImage tempBImage = new BufferedImage(320,240,BufferedImage.TYPE_INT_RGB);
                                  Graphics2D g = tempBImage.createGraphics();
    g.draw~~~(~~~); //do your stuff here
         //Create a fileoutputstream.
         FileOutputStream fos;
         fos = new FileOutputStream(thumbDirString+ "\\" + picName);
         JPEGImageEncoder encoder = JPEGCodec.createJPEGEncoder(fos);
         encoder.encode(tempBImage);
         fos.flush();
         fos.close();

  • Problems with DW:CS3 and CSS Display

    Hi...DW:CS3 is not rendering pages that work under DW8 and
    Firefox and IE6. The best example I can show you is from Chapter 13
    of CSS: The Missing Manual by McFarland. The full tutorial files
    can be found here: www.sawmac.css (you have to download the files,
    unzip them and then look at the chapter_13_finished html file.
    The content and news divisions are pushed down after the
    navigation. Does anyone know if this is bad code or a problem w/th
    the CS3 engine. It works fine under DW8.
    Thanks for your help.
    (I've posted the html and main css page here)

    Yes...the pages from the book display perfectly in dw8, but
    not in DWcs3.
    I found that by commenting out the "clear:left;" under "#nav"
    the page displays properly in DWcs3, too. That leaves open the
    question of "why".
    Thanks.

  • Website not showing images and CSS in Muse using FTP!

    HI. My site works perfectly when using business catalyst  http://trellishomecom01.businesscatalyst.com/index.html
    and this is how it looks after reading my files on Fetch ftp  http://www.trellishome.com
    I have changed all the permissions on the files and uploading my files to   register.com.  I have all files css, images, index.html, muse_manifest.xml, and scripts folder.  On the register.com hosting site, they have 2 folders existing there when I open fetch.  One folder is called "cgi-bin" and the other is "htdocs".  I have all my exported folders from Muse placed inside the "htdocs" folder.  Is there any code I need to change??
    Help!

    Hey deuce121,
    Aparently there's nothing missing from http://www.trellishome.com either, as you can see here.
    It seems like all requested files are served well. So, in case you see something different make sure to clear you browser's cache and try again.
    Cheers,

  • Dreamweaver and CSS display problem

    Hi,
    I am new to CSS layouts and trying to build a site in pure
    CSS but I am having a problem with how it is dispayed within
    dreamweaver.
    here is
    the html page as it looks in a browser
    But
    here is how the page currently looks is dreamweaver
    As you can see, my divs which run along the bottom of the
    page in the browser are actually shown contained in another div in
    dreamweaver which is very misleading!
    Is this due to something i have done or is this how it
    displays in dreamweaver?
    HTML code as follows:
    <!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.01
    Transitional//EN"
    http://www.w3.org/TR/html4/loose.dtd">
    <html>

    charset=iso-8859-1">

    <div id="smlbanner3"></div>
    <div id="smlbanner4"></div>
    </div>
    </body>
    </html>
    and
    my CSS can be found here
    Thanks for reading
    Steve

    FWIW, there were significant rendering improvements made in
    DW8, so it
    may be worth the upgrade if you're creating layouts in DW.
    In the meantime, try adding some content to the bannerlarge
    container. I
    think DW may be incorrectly collapsing that tag since it's
    empty.

  • Background image and CSS?

    I am building a page to resemble our companies website.  Right now my page is linking to some external images.  I think this maybe affecting how my background looks.  If you look at this link: http://www.ournewspace.com/melanieshefchik
    You will see a big grey box behind my body and if you look even further you will see a green box pattern behind that.   I would like that green pattern to be the entire background.  How can I get rid of that grey?
    Thanks.

    The grey you are seeing is in the actual images.  You would ned to remove the gray from the images in order for the grey to not appear.

  • Image and X display problem

    Hi,
    I am running a JSP file in Unix machine, the web server is apache using port 80. Servlet Engine is using port 8009.
    In my Jsp program, I want to read an image file:
    Image image = Toolkit.getDefaultToolkit().getImage(url);
    My problem is : I need to issue a "xhost +" command before I am able to display the image in my client PC's browser.
    Please tell me why xhost + is necessary? How to by-pass the xhost + command.
    If I don't type the xhost + command, I will get the following error:

    If you want access an X-server (by e.g. launching a GUI-program), the client must be allowed to connect to the X-server.

  • Missing images and CSS styles! [subject edited by moderator]

    I edited a template in dreamweaver and uploaded it to my new website yet it only shows plain text? All of the pretty layout and pictures are missing? How do I upload all of the files the way that it looks in dreamweaver? Because there it looks perfect.
    neilmangicaro.com is the website

    I don't know where you got your "Template"  but in DW, Template.dwt files serve a very specific purpose for maintaining the overall appearance of your site wide pages and common elements such as footers, headers & menus.  If you're not familiar with DW Templates yet, I urge you to read the F1 Help Section > About DW Templates. Dreamweaver Help | About Dreamweaver templates
    A Template.dwt file is basically a common structure shared by many child pages that are spawned from that Template.
