HTTP server licensing

Can the oracle http server included with the companion cd be used without specifically licensing the product?
We would like to run the oracle http server with the mod_plsql module on a dedicated server but I'm unable to find licensing info on that individual product.

You would require proper license to even use standalone OHS from companion CD. Depending on the version of standalone OHS, you might need at least either Oracle Application Server Java Edition (which I believe isn't offered anymore) or WLS SE (as per new licensing terms).
I would suggest you to get in touch with you Oracle sales rep to get it cleared.
Thanks

  • Oracle HTTP Server download bandwidth limited on Windows 2003 Server

    Hi,
we have an ApEx application with the following configuration on the server:
    OS: Windows 2003 Server 64Bit
    DB: 10.2.0.3 64bit
HTTP Server: the one that comes on the companion CD of Oracle DB 10g 32 bit
and after the bandwidth in the datacenter where the server resides was increased, I discovered a problem related to the server download bandwidth. I found on Metalink a Note [568075.1 - HTTP Server File Download Speed Is Slow |https://metalink2.oracle.com/metalink/plsql/ml2_documents.showDocument?p_database_id=NOT&p_id=568075.1] , but unfortunately not a very clear resolution given the fact that we use Oracle DB SEOne, so options 1 & 2 will involve additional licenses costs.
I tried option 3 suggested in the note by using the HTTP Server that comes with 11g (I assume this is a supported configuration also from licenses point of view HTTP Server from 11g on top of Oracle DB 10g) and I got a boost in performance but the bandwidth is still 70% compared to the bandwidth I get when downloading from the IIS on the same server.
Has anyone went through this exercise and found a solution for fully using the server bandwidth without needing to go for option 4 in the note, using Linux :), as in our case this will involve again additional licenses and/or hardware costs as the HTTP Server that comes with the DB has to be installed on the machine where the DB is installed?
    Thanks in advance,
    Florin

Ooops ... things like this happen with Oracle Support, no answer?
Can you tell me anyway the SR number or the SR title so that I can write it in the SR I make? Like that maybe Oracle Support will work harder on the case, as there are more customers hitting the same problem.
Anyway in the meanwhile, I run some tests with the original Apache and this one works like a charm even in Windows 2003 Server. What remains now to be done is to use the Open Source Apache as proxy to the HTTP Server, as it looks like it handles much better the static content, it supports also mod_gzip or mod_deflate, but does not support mod_plsql :(. So I think the combination of the two: will do the work for me, but it is really a pity that I have to configure 2 web servers because the HTTP Server has flaws in it :(. Hopefully these will be fixed soon

  • HTTP Server - what to select

    Hi,
While installing APEX I see below instruction -
    2.3 HTTP Server Requirements
In order to run, Oracle Application Express you must have access to one of the following:
    Oracle Application Express Listener
    Embedded PL/SQL gateway
    Oracle HTTP Server and mod_plsql
Not clear on what these option are and what to choose. I don't know about java. I have installed Oracle in my system with default database. Can someone tell me what to choose here? Many thanks.

Which version and edition of DB? Version of Apex?
If you are using XE then EPG is already installed and good for you. And will recommend not to bother about other choices till get more familiar with Apex.
The choice has more to do with what you already have installed, the available infrastructure ,licensing costs, etc.
    At a broad level
    a. Simplest out of the box : EPG. Good for learning and dev, not the best choice for Prod
    b. ApexListener. Standalone or with J2EE container. Standalone to learn , with J2EE for something more serious.
    c. OHS: If you already have OHS installed or some reasons to use it. It runs fine and has been around longer. Its just that Apexlistener is the one developing faster.

  • APEX and Oracle HTTP server

    Scenario
We are considering using APEX with Oracle 10g. However, we don't have Oracle application server. At the same time we do not want to use the Oracle HTTP server(OHS) on the database server. The propsed application intend to use by approx. 5000 users
    Questions
As APEX requires just OHS and mod_plsql plugin,
    1. Can we install just Oracle HTTP server and mod_plsql on standalone server? Which CD need to be used?
    2. Can OHS can be licensed separately as Oracle Internet application server(Enterprise Edition) based on processor licensing is expensive and not affordable. However, there are other options like Standard Edition and Standard Edition One as well but do not require any other options except OHS and mod_plsql plugin.Hence, what is the cost effective option to have OHS and mod_plsql as a middle tier component to deploy APEX applications
    Thanks in advance

    All,
I'm by no means a security expert, but I don't think this is a best practice. I think the best practice is to use two HTTP servers: one in the DMZ and one on the DB server. The one in the DMZ can be a standard Apache install - it acts as a proxy server and does not need mod_plsql. The second should be OHS. This configuration allows you to block ports that are usually used to communicate with the DB from the server in the DMZ.
Did I get that right or am I way off?

  • Get Report of Terminal Server license report

Is there a way I can track our Terminal Server Licenses usage. For example I have bought 50 licenses, are they being used to full capacity or under used. What is the monthly maximum usage. And we have about 10 servers hosting terminal services
in our AD, do I have to generated a report for each ? Is there tool that can do this ? Windows 2008 R2 and Windows 2012 R2

    Hi,
Thank you for posting in Windows Server Forum.
For finding active session on terminal server you can use command as follow.
    query session /server:SERVER2
A user can always query the session to which the user is currently logged on. To query other sessions, the user must have Query Information access permission.
    More information.

  • How can we debug Oracle Http Server on AIX.

Our requirement is to attach a debugger (dbx) to oracle http server on AIX.
For that purpose we need to start the OHS webserver service that is opmn in a single process mode the way we start Apache webserver by -X option.
Can anyone help how can we start OHS in single thread.

You'll get a faster, more effective response to your questions by including as much relevant information as possible upfront. This would normally include:
    <li>Full APEX version
    <li>Full DB/version/edition/host OS
<li>Web server architecture (EPG, OHS or APEX listener/host OS)
    <li>Browser(s) and version(s) used
    <li>Theme
    <li>Template(s)
    <li>Region/item type(s)
Thanks for having included most of the information that is relevent to your question.
I have installed Oracle Apex 4.1 on Oracle 10g database but I want to configure Oracle HTTP Server on another Server(Microsoft Windows 2008 R2). Here I have placed Apache Tomcat 6.0 version already. Can anyone please tell me how is it possible to install and configure Oracle HTTP Server on Windows 2008 along with Apache Tomcat? Why? Installing OHS and the DB on separate servers will incur additional licensing costs.
More common confugrations would be to use Apache as a reverse proxy to an OHS+DB server, or Tomcat+APEX Listener with a DB server and not using OHS at all. (Although I understand Tomcat is not an Oracle-supported platform for the APEX Listener. For any questions on this or other Listener-related topics use the {forum:id=858} forum.)

  • SQL Server License from SAP to use the Business Intelligence Stack

    Hi Sean,
SQL Server license is a very complicated issue. If the tool is given to you in the package, it should be ok to use it. There is no update for the info provided in the blog although it is over 3 years.

    Hi delaynomore,
According to your description, you fail to execute the function with timeout error after migration to SQL Server 2012. Based on my research, the issue could be due to the long running tasks or uncommitted transactions.
To troubleshoot the issue, besides Olaf's suggestion to check the connection to SQL Server 2012 instance and the stored procedure using SQL Server Management Studio(SSMS) manually, you could also follow the methods below.
    1. Execute that procedure manually using SSMS and check if it takes a very long time to execute and return. For example, there could be millions of rows being updated. If it takes a long time, you can adjust the CommandTimeout accordingly.
    2. Execute the following statement in SSMS to check if there are any uncommitted transactions: dbcc opentran ('yourDatabaseName'). If there are any uncommitted transactions, please change the  stored procedure accordingly to commit the transactions.
For more information about the process, please refer to the article:

  • Do we need Oracle HTTP server to host Oracle Apex ?

We are completely new to this Oracle Apex.
Wanted to know the licensing part of it , before we get into it.
I guess Oracle Apex is free as it comes with the Oracle database license.
    1) Do we need some kind of HTTP server to host the Apex on the browser ?
    2) Does any HTTP server will work with Oracle Apex ?
    3) Any other free Oracle tool which we can use instead of licensing Oracle HTTP server for this Apex ?
Correct me if I am wrong.

  • Oracle HTTP Server (companion cd)

Does the 10G companion cd support OC4J? If so could someone provide and example on configuration and deploying war files?
I was able to modify the server.xml file to allow the Home OC4J container to be started with opmn, but I was not sure how to configure other containers and deploy my war file.
I didn't want to utilize the stand alone oc4j as that requires a license and my client already has a license for the companion cd http server.

What's the difference between "separate media shipped with Oracle Database" and a "Companion CD"?
The Companion CD was used for material that wouldn't fit on the base CD and which might be optional or unnecessary for many customers. The packaging was labeled with the term "Companion CD" using the English language proper-noun-as-adjective capitalization convention.
Wouldn't something that is shipped with something else be a companion?
Sure, but the suggested semantic relationship between the ad hoc notation "Companion" and companionship neither excludes accompanying or adjunct materials that do not have this designation from the "companion" category nor does it situate all "companion" material as members of the "Companion" category. If Oracle had labeled the CD as the "Overflow CD" the difference in connotation would have been slight but would not lead me to conflate such supplemental offerings with certain household plumbing mishaps.

  • Move Terminal server licenses to another server

We have one terminal server VM hosted in hyper v server. currently there is a problem with the hyper v server hdd and we might need to rebuild the whole server. We would like to setup a new terminal server on a new server. The existing terminal server is
windows server 2003. After I fresh setup the Windows server 2003 VM in a new server, how do I move the terminal server license to a new server? FYI, we would like to decommission the old terminal server. But we would like to do it in parallel as there are
many users are still accessing to the old terminal server.
    Thanks so much.
    Regards,
    Henry

    Hi Henry,
First you need to gather your licensing paperwork, authorization number(s), license number(s), etc. for your existing licenses.  This step is critical.
Next install RD Licensing on the replacement 2003 server, Activate it using Terminal Server Licensing (licmgr.exe), then install the TS CALs.  If you receive an error when installing the old TS CALs please contact the Clearinghouse and explain
to them you need to install the TS CALs on a new server because the old one is being decommissioned.
How to locate a telephone number for the Microsoft Clearinghouse
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/291795
Once you have confirmed that the old TS CALs are installed on the replacement 2003 TS then make sure your 2003 TS is set to the correct Licensing mode (to match the type of TS CALs) and you have Specified the name of the new RD Licensing server.
You do this in Terminal Services Configuration (tscc.msc) on the replacement terminal server.
As an alternative you could install the existing TS CALs on a newer RD Licensing server such as Server 2008 R2, Server 2012, etc.  You still will need to have the authorization number(s), license number(s), etc. for the existing 2003 TS CALs.

  • Installed Forms 11g ok but do I need another HTTP Server to run APEX?

    Friends,
I have posted this Installed Forms 11g ok but do I need another HTTP Server to run APEX? over in the Forms forum. I'm not sure if it's best suited to here?
I'm not chasing for an answer, just trying to find the correct place for my question.
    Thanks
    Ian

The answer from a software licensing perspective depends on the licening model you are on. If Unified Workspace Licensing (UWL), then you already have license entitlement to CUP under the Business Edition of that licence program. If you are on a DLU or UCL-based license program, CUP is seperately licensed.
You will need s seperate MCS server.
Softphones again depend on your license schema. If UWL, each user is entitled to one softphone. DLU and UCL each charge for softphone usage seperately.

Does anyone know what a server license is for the Adobe Creative Suite. If a company gets it, can any number of staff be in the suite at one time? What are the drawbacks?

InDesign Server has nothing to do with the version of InDesign that the

InDesign Server is a headless version of InDesign -- useful only to

  • Cannot find 11gR2 HTTP Server to install

I've recently upgraded a database from 10gR2 to 11gR2, and everything is working fine. However, a new project has come up that requires APEX, and I can't find any HTTP server in my ORACLE_HOME. I'd be happy enough to install it, but I can't locate the installation media to download. I've downloaded database_1of2, database_2of2, gateways, grid, client, and examples from the [OTN 11gR2 download page|http://www.oracle.com/technology/software/products/database/oracle11g/112010_linx8664soft.html], but I don't find any "install HTTP server" options in the installers. Other posts refer to the Companion disk on 11gR1 and 10g, but I've not found a corresponding companion disk download for 11gR2.
I skipped whatever HTTP server option I may have been presented with when I installed 10gR2, so there has never been an HTTP server on this machine.
I'm confident that I can install it, if only I could find it. I'd be most appreciative if somebody can point me in the right direction.
    Thanks -
