Httpd.conf, jserv.conf...etc....

Hi Guru's
one more query.
I want to knw more about Apache and other configuration files like jserv.conf, httpd.conf, jserv.properties.conf, etc...
what it will contain exactly? how they work with Apache these configuration files?
Thanks Guru's for all your support.

Hi,
Oracle HTTP Server is powered through Apache, and is a key component of Oracle iAS (Oracle Application Server), a versatile Application Server. Oracle HTTP Server includes a Java Virtual Machine (JVM) which is called JServ. The files that you've listed - jserv.conf and jserv.properties are the key configuration files for JServ, while httpd.conf is a key configuration file for Oracle HTTP Server.
Please browse the following links for more information on these components :
Oracle HTTP Server : http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/ias/ohs/index.html
Oracle Application Server : http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/ias/index.html
Oracle iAS forms the core technology component of the Oracle E-Business Suite techstack.

Rakesh.

  • Virtual Hosts configuration in JServ.conf

I was trying to configure virtual hosts in the Jserv.conf file like this:

    # directives for vhost1
    <VirtualHost 138.1.104.151:10001>

    </VirtualHost>
After I saved the file and tried to stop/restart the Apache server, I got any warning, saying:"NameVirtualHosts 138.1.104.151 has not virtual hosts". Any idea as to how to fix this problem? Thanks in advance.

    Hi,
This seems to be a SO error more than an IAS error.
Have you tried stopping the iAS Server and looking for and old process still running?
It may not be a problem with the file open limit, but may be the one it is trying to user is still in use by and old process.

  • Missing syslog.conf file in /etc folder!

How do I create a syslog.conf file that I need in the /etc folder to resolve an isssue with DoorStop?

/etc/syslog.conf already exists - you just need to edit it to your needs.
The issue, of course, is that only root can edit this file. Your best bet is to run your favorite text editor using sudo in Terminal.app, e.g.:
    sudo vi /etc/syslog.conf

  • Configure resolv.conf nsswitch.conf etc to search .local

After installing a new router I find I cannot ping hosts on my local network using just the simple hostname.
I used to be able to ping myhost, but now I find I need to ping myhost.local.
My nsswitch.conf hosts line looks like
hosts: files mdns4_minimal [NOTFOUND=return] dns myhostname wins
I tried adding various search values to  /etc/resolv.conf, but couldn't find one that worked.
Is there a way to get the .local domain searched, my router (although expensive) doesn't seem to facilitate this?

After some digging in the nss-mdns package source I find that the option to respect resolv.conf search domains is turned off in the Arch build. However, a simple patch to nss.c seems to fix things up fairly easily. A more complex one would be required to respect the /etc/mdns.allowed file domains. It seems like such an obvious thing to do for domainless searches that I wonder why this wasn't done by the original author.
    $ diff nss.c.orig nss.c

  • What is the significance of jserv.properties, jserv.conf & zone.properties?

    EOM

    Balaji,
vpd.properties file is created by installshield embedded in siebel installers, other software that also uses installshield may also use the same vpd.properties. Good practice is to take backups after/before each siebel installation, including patch install. Doc ID 476955.1 in support.oracle.com has some information about this file.
    Hope it helps,

  • Missing $IAS_ORACLE_HOME/Apache/Apache/conf/oprocmgr.conf

    Hi all,
As per my problem AppsLocallogin shows blank page or HTTP-403.
I got metalink 372096.1 note which will definitly resolve my issue but the problem is I m getting the the oprocmgr.cof file is missing under #IAS_ORACLE_HOME/Apache/Apache/conf
Is there any way to create this file at specified location......
Plz reply as soon as possible.......
    Waiting 4 ur valuable reply....
    Thanks in Advance......

What version of OHS (Oracle HTTP Server) are you using? oprocmgr.conf is for JServer which is not included any more with OHS. I believe it was there in v1.0.2.2.x versions of OHS and not after that.
    Thanks

    # Based upon the NCSA server configuration files originally by Rob McCool.
    # This is the main Apache server configuration file. It contains the
    # configuration directives that give the server its instructions.
    # See <URL:http://www.apache.org/docs/> for detailed information about
    # the directives.
    # Do NOT simply read the instructions in here without understanding
    # what they do. They're here only as hints or reminders. If you are unsure
    # consult the online docs. You have been warned.
    # After this file is processed, the server will look for and process
    # E:\oracle\product\10.1.0\Companion\Apache\Apache/conf/srm.conf and then E:\oracle\product\10.1.0\Companion\Apache\Apache/conf/access.conf
    # unless you have overridden these with ResourceConfig and/or
    # AccessConfig directives here.
    # The configuration directives are grouped into three basic sections:
    # 1. Directives that control the operation of the Apache server process as a
    # whole (the 'global environment').
    # 2. Directives that define the parameters of the 'main' or 'default' server,
    # which responds to requests that aren't handled by a virtual host.
    # These directives also provide default values for the settings
    # of all virtual hosts.
    # 3. Settings for virtual hosts, which allow Web requests to be sent to
    # different IP addresses or hostnames and have them handled by the
    # same Apache server process.
    # Configuration and logfile names: If the filenames you specify for many
    # of the server's control files begin with "/" (or "drive:/" for Win32), the
    # server will use that explicit path. If the filenames do not begin
    # with "/", the value of ServerRoot is prepended -- so "logs/foo.log"
    # with ServerRoot set to "E:\oracle\product\10.1.0\Companion\Apache\Apache" will be interpreted by the
    # server as "E:\oracle\product\10.1.0\Companion\Apache\Apache/logs/foo.log".
    # NOTE: Where filenames are specified, you must use forward slashes
    # instead of backslashes (e.g., "c:/apache" instead of "c:\apache").
    # If a drive letter is omitted, the drive on which Apache.exe is located
    # will be used by default. It is recommended that you always supply
    # an explicit drive letter in absolute paths, however, to avoid
    # confusion.
    ### Section 1: Global Environment
    # The directives in this section affect the overall operation of Apache,
    # such as the number of concurrent requests it can handle or where it
    # can find its configuration files.
    # ServerType is either inetd, or standalone. Inetd mode is only supported on
    # Unix platforms.
    ServerType standalone
    # ServerRoot: The top of the directory tree under which the server's
    # configuration, error, and log files are kept.
    # Do NOT add a slash at the end of the directory path.
    ServerRoot "E:\oracle\product\10.1.0\Companion\Apache\Apache"
    # PidFile: The file in which the server should record its process
    # identification number when it starts.
    PidFile logs/httpd.pid
    # ScoreBoardFile: File used to store internal server process information.
    # Not all architectures require this. But if yours does (you'll know because
    # this file will be created when you run Apache) then you must ensure that
    # no two invocations of Apache share the same scoreboard file.
    ScoreBoardFile logs/httpd.scoreboard
    # In the standard configuration, the server will process httpd.conf (this
    # file, specified by the -f command line option), srm.conf, and access.conf
    # in that order. The latter two files are now distributed empty, as it is
    # recommended that all directives be kept in a single file for simplicity.
    # The commented-out values below are the built-in defaults. You can have the
    # server ignore these files altogether by using "/dev/null" (for Unix) or
    # "nul" (for Win32) for the arguments to the directives.
    #ResourceConfig conf/srm.conf
    #AccessConfig conf/access.conf
    # Timeout: The number of seconds before receives and sends time out.
    Timeout 300
    # SendBufferSize: controls setsockopt() call made to set send buffer size on
    # all sockets. Default OS value on most Windows platforms is too small.
    # Larger values can help if the average page size served by OHS is
    # large (~64 k)
    SendBufferSize 16384
    # KeepAlive: Whether or not to allow persistent connections (more than
    # one request per connection). Set to "Off" to deactivate.
    KeepAlive On
    # MaxKeepAliveRequests: The maximum number of requests to allow
    # during a persistent connection. Set to 0 to allow an unlimited amount.
    # We recommend you leave this number high, for maximum performance.
    MaxKeepAliveRequests 100
    # KeepAliveTimeout: Number of seconds to wait for the next request from the
    # same client on the same connection.
    KeepAliveTimeout 15
    # Apache on Win32 always creates one child process to handle requests. If it
    # dies, another child process is created automatically. Within the child
    # process multiple threads handle incoming requests. The next two
    # directives control the behaviour of the threads and processes.
    # MaxRequestsPerChild: the number of requests each child process is
    # allowed to process before the child dies. The child will exit so
    # as to avoid problems after prolonged use when Apache (and maybe the
    # libraries it uses) leak memory or other resources. On most systems, this
    # isn't really needed, but a few (such as Solaris) do have notable leaks
    # in the libraries. For Win32, set this value to zero (unlimited)
    # unless advised otherwise.
    # NOTE: This value does not include keepalive requests after the initial
    # request per connection. For example, if a child process handles
    # an initial request and 10 subsequent "keptalive" requests, it
    # would only count as 1 request towards this limit.
    MaxRequestsPerChild 0
    # Number of concurrent threads (i.e., requests) the server will allow.
    # Set this value according to the responsiveness of the server (more
    # requests active at once means they're all handled more slowly) and
    # the amount of system resources you'll allow the server to consume.
    ThreadsPerChild 50
    # Server-pool size regulation. Rather than making you guess how many
    # server processes you need, Apache dynamically adapts to the load it
    # sees --- that is, it tries to maintain enough server processes to
    # handle the current load, plus a few spare servers to handle transient
    # load spikes (e.g., multiple simultaneous requests from a single
    # Netscape browser).
    # It does this by periodically checking how many servers are waiting
    # for a request. If there are fewer than MinSpareServers, it creates
    # a new spare. If there are more than MaxSpareServers, some of the
    # spares die off. The default values are probably OK for most sites.
    #MinSpareServers 5
    #MaxSpareServers 20
    # Limit on total number of servers running, i.e., limit on the number
    # of clients who can simultaneously connect --- if this limit is ever
    # reached, clients will be LOCKED OUT, so it should NOT BE SET TOO LOW.
    # It is intended mainly as a brake to keep a runaway server from taking
    # the system with it as it spirals down...
    #MaxClients 150
    # Listen: Allows you to bind Apache to specific IP addresses and/or
    # ports, in addition to the default. See also the <VirtualHost>
    # directive.
    #Listen 3000
    #Listen 12.34.56.78:80
    # BindAddress: You can support virtual hosts with this option. This directive
    # is used to tell the server which IP address to listen to. It can either
    # contain "*", an IP address, or a fully qualified Internet domain name.

    # Dynamic Shared Object (DSO) Support
    # To be able to use the functionality of a module which was built as a DSO you
    # have to place corresponding `LoadModule' lines at this location so the
    # directives contained in it are actually available before they are used.
    # Please read the file README.DSO in the Apache 1.3 distribution for more

    # This comment line, the first line of the script, consists of the symbols
    # pound (#) and exclamation (!) followed by the path of the program that
    # can execute this specific script. For a perl script, with perl.exe in

    # Note you mustnot_ indent the actual shebang line, and it must be the

    # the appropriate ScriptAlias or Options ExecCGI directives for the files

    # However, Apache on Windows allows either the Unix behavior above, or can
    # use the Registry to match files by extention. The command to execute

Firstly, there's no such thing as Apache 9.3, there's Apache 1 (and subversions) and Apache 2 (and subversions). Your error message -
    Oracle-HTTP-Server/1.3.28Shows you're using Apache 1.3.28
Secondly, I'm confused by your comment -
I do not have Apache 9.3 or higher but I think oracle should offer this in its companion CDOracle does offer the Apache server, if you're saying you didn't get it from Oracle then where did your Apache server come from?
Thirdly, I notice from your config file -
ErrorLog "|E:\oracle\product\10.1.0\Companion\Apache\Apache\bin\rotatelogs logs/error_log 43200"That you're piping the logs through rotatelogs, are you sure the logfiles haven't just been renamed?

  • HTTP Listener problems

    Good day all,
I have some problems regarding HTTP Listener:
    1. I cannot startup my www listener on port
80, only Node Manager listener can be
started. It gives out the errors:
    OWS-08811 & OWS-08851.
    2. I even cannot either view or edit the
    configuration for my HTTP listener.
When I clicked on the properties such
as Network, Server, etc, it just doesn't
show up the configuration that I needed
    to see.
I have already checked the environment variable: WV_GATEWAY_CFG, and it is in the right path. What could possibly went wrong?
This is the specification of my installed products:
    Platform: Windows 2000
DB: Oracle 8i Enterprise Edition 8.1.7.0.0
    Oracle 9ias 4.0.8.2.1a
    Any ideas? Thanks.

As far as I know, there is no utilities to view the configuration as you have mentioned. All configurations are in configure files,
    they are
    httpd.conf
    jserv.conf
    jserv.properties
    zone.properties
If someone does know such a utility, please tell me. :-)

  • Portal opens with Error

    Hi
As soon as I get to the portal url below ,
    http://ca0419wk96783/portal/page?_pageid=6,1,6_13&_dad=portal&_schema=PORTAL
and I tried qualifying with full domain name also, I still get the page with below mentioned error
    Error: Internal error (WWC-00006)
An unexpected error occurred: ORA-29261: bad argument (WWC-43000)
If I click on Login and proceed to login page , I get the below mentioned error
Error: You cannot login because there is either invalid or no
    configuration information
stored in the enabler configuration table (WWSEC_ENABLER_CONFIG_INFO$).
    (WWC-41439)
Any assistance would be really helpful
    Thanks

Hope this helps. detailed set of possible reasons and steps. The script being referred was ssodatan and the table is right, check portal, orasso schema. Check the detailed reason, resolution below. Let me know if it works.
Reason 1: The enabler table is empty.
It is possible that loadjava is failing to load the SSOHash class early in the installation process. If this class is not loaded, then much of the Login Server and Partner Application seed data is unable to load and the table is not populated.
Solution: Make sure the Java Option is installed on the database and correct the Java environment variables such as CLASSPATH, and try to reinstall Oracle Portal.
If the problem is still not resolved, check that the SSOHash class is loaded.
Log onto SQL*Plus as the SYS user with the appropriate password.
    Enter the following commands:
    SQL> select object_name from user_objects
    2 where object_type = 'JAVA CLASS'
    3 and object_name like '%SSO%';
Reason 2: You've installed Oracle Portal over a previous installation of Internet Application Server (iAS) or the default Oracle HTTP Server powered by Apache ports are being used by some other process.
Both Oracle Portal and iAS version 1.0.2 default to port 80 on Windows NT and port 7777 on Solaris upon installation.
In the future, to avoid this situation, make sure that you stop any service running on either of these ports (depending on your operating system) before installing either iAS or Oracle Portal.
Solution: Change the Oracle HTTP Server powered by Apache port number.
You will need to make changes to the Oracle HTTP Server's configuration file, httpd.conf.
With a text editor, open the Oracle HTTP Server's configuration file, httpd.conf, which is located in the following location by default:
    <ORACLE_HOME>/Apache/Apache/conf/httpd.conf
For the HTTP port, edit the port number to 7777.
    Save the httpd.conf file.
Repeat the above steps for the jserv.properties file.
With a text editor, open the Apache Jserv configuration file, jserv.conf, which is located in the following location by default:
    <ORACLE_HOME>/Apache/Jserv/conf/jserv.conf
For the Default port that Apache JServ is listening to, edit the port number if you have another Jserv installation using the same port (8007).
Remove any alias defined in the Apache configuration which makes Apache translate "host.domain.com" to just "host". You must define the default domain as well.
    Save the jserv.conf.
Reason 3: The URL for the login link is not using the same host:port as the entry in the enabler table. This is usually due to one of the following:
The URL was mistyped when invoking the ssodatan script. Re-run ssodatan with the correct data.
The ssodatan script was run correctly with a full URL: host.domain:port. However, the Login link shows only host:port (dropping the domain). This is typically because there is an alias defined in the Oracle HTTP Server powered by Apache configuration (httpd.conf) resulting in the translation of host.domain.com to host.
The default domain is not set in the Oracle HTTP Server powered by Apache configuration. When this is the case, only the hostname is produced, without the domain.
The ssodatan script was run with the default port number 80. As a result, the Oracle HTTP Server and your browser drops the :80. Thus, the URL no longer matches the entry in the WWSEC_ENABLER_CONFIG_INFO$ table.
Solution: Install the Login Server by running the ssodatan script, which is located in the following location by default:
    <ORACLE_HOME>\webdb30\admin\plsql
where <ORACLE_HOME> is where your Oracle Portal installation is located.
    Start a command line prompt.
Enter the following command to associate a node to the Login Server:
    ssodatan <-w portal_url> <-l login_server_url> <-s portal_schema> <-p
    portal_password> <-o sso_schema> <-d sso_password> <-c portal_connect_
    string>
    Example
    ssodatan -w http://server.oracle.com:7777/pls/portal/ -l
    http://server.oracle.com:3000/pls/portal_sso/ -s portal30 -p portal30 -o
    portal30_sso -c orcl
    See:
Table 5-1, "ssodatan parameters" for parameter descriptions.
Specify to use port number 7777 in the script's URL parameter.
    Important:
If you are using the default port 80, do not specify this port number when running the ssodatan script.
Reason 4: Insufficient tablespace, shared pool size, or Java Pool size to install Oracle Portal.
Solution: You will have to correct the appropriate configuration setting before reinstalling Oracle Portal.
    'See also:
    Oracle8i documentation set.
ORA-04031: unable to allocate 4032 bytes of shared memory ("shared pool","java/lang/ObjectSYS","joxlod: in ehe","ioc_allocate_pal")
This error displays as a result of a parameter setting in the Oracle8i init.ora file. For some reason, the java_pool_size parameter may be set to 0. By default, the Oracle8i installation sets this parameter to approximately 20 MB.
Solution: You must drop the Oracle Portal objects from the database, set the java_pool_size initialization parameter to 20 MB or above and then reinstall Oracle Portal.
    'See also:
    "init.ora settings".
Error: A post check on the Portal installation has determined that the SSOHash class has not been loaded into the database
This error displays for any of the following reasons:
the Java option was not installed with your Oracle8i database
the Java environment variables such as CLASSPATH is incorrect
the ORACLE_HOME is not set and the loadjava command cannot be found
Solution: Install the Java Option with the Database Assistant and rerun the Oracle Portal installation

  • 9i Appliaction Server

    Help!
I have installed successfully 9i Application Server EE on oracle 8i EE 8.1.6 rel 2. There are no errors or nothing so it seems everything is running fine but i want to check that all the components of HTTP server like jserv, jsp,mod_plsql, xdl that they are working and listening client request. How do i do it? I appriciate if somebody can help me.
    Thanks in advance.

To verify that they are set up to be started in the first place. Check the httpd.conf and oracle_apache.conf files. You should see something like this in the httpd.conf file:
    # Include the configuration for Apache JServ 1.1
    include "c:\oraias\Apache\Jserv\conf\jserv.conf"
    # Include the Oracle configuration file for custom settings
    include "c:\oraias\Apache\Apache\conf\oracle_apache.conf"
And something like this in the oracle_apache.conf file:
    include "c:\oraias\Apache\Apache\conf\mod__ose.conf"
    include "c:\oraias\Apache\modplsql\cfg\plsql.conf"
    include "c:\oraias\xdk\admin\xml.conf"
    include "c:\oraias\Apache\jsp\conf\ojsp.conf"
These ".conf" files contain startup parameters for Apache and all it's modules.
To see if they've actually started look at the error_log.log file in the Apache Logs directory. If a module hasn't started, it should make an entry here. You can check specific module log files for more information.
Another option would be to run an application that utilizes the module in question. You can do this using some of the examples provided by Oracle. These can be accessed through the Oracle_http homepage.

  • Configure apache server

    Hi,
I am trying to configure apache server.
When I execute a jsp file, I do not get
HTML output but my JSP source is displayed
in the browser. What is missing in my
configuration? There isn't any error message
    in the log files.
    Earlier on mfreedma-pc.us.oracle.com I read
some documentation on "How to configure
apche server". The site is not available now.
Can someone forward me the documentation?
    Thanks
    null

I followed the directions given in the mail.
Here is the configuration I have :
    Apache Webserver 1.3.11
    Apache Jserver 1.1
    ojsp installed
    JSDK2.0
    JSWDK 1.0.1
I also verified that my configuration files are fine (httpd.conf, jserv.conf, jserv.properties and zone.properties).
When I try the following command : ap588sun.us.oracle.com:9090/servlets/hello1.jsp, I don't get any results and afterwards timeout occurs and I get a message 'This document contains no data, please contact your system administrator'.
I also tried with 'IsItWorking' file and got the same results. Log files (error_log and mod_jserv.log) doesn't contain any information.
    Am I missing anything?

  • Apache is Webserver but too complicated

    Hi,
Can any body please provide me some document to understand Apache. Which explains everything about webserver and its relationship with mod_jserve, mod_plsql, JVM and different file it uses. How the parameters in httpd.conf,jserv.conf, jserv.pro, zone.pro(other important file like apps.conf ) like heap memory are used (I know the basic parameter like keepalive, max,minserver...). how to tune webserver.

  • Oracle 9ias 1.0.2.2 problems

    Hi friends,
I've just installed a 9ias (1.0.2.2) on Linux (Mandrake 8). The installation seemed OK but when I try the Jserv demo link (on the Apache initial page) it gives me an error saying that ".. /servlet/IsItWorking not found".
The Installation Guide only says to start Apache after installation. But it seems to me that there's something else missing.
    Can you help me???

if jserv error_log keeps increasing its size every 10 sec or 30 sec while apache is running, something must go wrong. For example, if the servlet engine need to build a database connection but the database is not up, the whole servelt engine can not be started.
You need to investigate the reasons in all configure files, they are
    mod_ose.conf
    oracle_apache.conf
    jserv.conf
    jserv.properties
    zone.properties
You can comment out some directories in the above files, stop/start apache to narrow the reason.
    Best Regards,
