Huawei E160G on my MacBook

Help please!!!
Problem: trying to use a Huawei E160G on my MacBook Pro running OS X 10.4.11
I received the modem as a replacement for another model* that broke down from 3ireland.
*(It was a ZTE MF622, there were no driver problems, and its software was uninstalled prior to trying the new one.)
The software bundled with the modem isn't doing its job. I click connect and though no error message displays, and there is plenty coverage, no connection is made. My provider's technical support offers no help.
When I go into system preferences and go to look at network settings a dialog appears stating that network settings have been changed by another application.
(Clearly the modem's software has tried to change these...)
This dialog will not go away and I have to force quit to get out of it.
I have uninstalled the Mobile Partner software but the problem with the network settings persists.
I would maybe try installing another driver but 3ireland's website only provides a E220 driverfor OS X.
Any ideas???

Hi fracasmac, and a warm welcome to the forums!
To stop the pop-up, Go to System Preferences: Security. Check the box next to "Require password to unlock each secure system preference." Then lock Security.
Try this cure for Security update...
http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1730909&tstart=0
The locations are actually...
/Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/preferences.plist
/Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/com.apple.airport.preferences.plist
/Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/NetworkInterfaces.plist
/Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/com.apple.nat.plist
Then... Try putting these numbers in Network>TCP/IP>DNS Servers, for the Interface you connect with...

208.67.220.220
Then Apply

  • Huawei e160G on mac os x 10.5.4, cd icon disappeared, mobile_connect crash

    Hi all,
First time i connected this modem, a cd icon appeared on desktop which contained a pdf guide and 3 broadband.app. Clicking on this app I was able to launch the Three broadband application which showed the internet speed and data usage with other settings.
I was trying to register on My3 and was unable to receive the SMS to finish registration. So I downloaded the SMS utility(Mobile_connect) and Three broadband utility for Mac OS.
After installing both these utilities, the problems began.
    1. The initial cd icon has stopped appearing! I need that back somehow. I guess that I've installed the drivers for this modem so that cd icon has disappeared.
    2. The SMS utility doesn't work. Just keeps crashing. I'd add the report at the bottom of this topic.
    3. I disconnect from internet and try to use the BB utility. Even the BB utility doesn't work and gives an error, saying " error unformatted text in ATI operation",
    model-searching...
    network- unknown
    model- unknown
How can go back to how the system was earlier, what all files should I delete? I just want that CD icon back with the normal view.

    thank you

The way I use my huwaii modem which is an earlier model to the one you have is not to use any of the bundled apps that came from my provider I found them to be buggy.
All I needed to do was install the driver then use the macs built in internet connect in the network preferences.

  • Want to change network type on huawei e220 ?

Any one can help,I use huawei e220 on my macbook pro,but how can I change the network type 3G only,3G Prefer,Gsm Only,Gsm Prefer ?

    Hi AFU;
Since your question pertains to networking, you might have better luck if instead of posting it here for questions on using Leopard, you posted it in the Networking Forum instead

I still don't know what happened to my test Aperture Library after the update to 3.4...Not only were my previews lost, but so were the original images!  Needless to say, I haven't bothered to update the main library on the Mac Pro because I don't want to deal with this level of uncertainty (even with backups in place).

    Thanks,
Yes, I did that. They have uppgrades for the dongles, but just untill Mac Os 10.7. Their solution is to buy a new modem from them or getting one for free if I sign a contract for 24 months! So, i think from that side not very helpful.
It is just that I do not want to buy a new modem, when it works in quite recent computers and after having spent money in the new Mac.
But thank you for your reply!

    Hi,
I purchased Huawei Dongle and trying to connect with my new MacBook Pro (OS- Mountain Lion) USB port 3.0 but unfortunately it does not support.
When I plugged in my macbook the power is flowing in dongle due green light blinking twice in every 3 sec but no connection found or diver shown.
Please let me know how I have to use it. I got some suggestion for USB hub 2.0 but It does not make any sense and driver installation.
So please suggest proper direction to use it and provide link to install any driver.
    Thanks
    Tauheed Ahmad

Yes Clinton I did same, but they were (Huawei customer support) surprised about this problem, They behave like they have no idea about USB 2.0 and  3.0 knowledge. They handsUp that reason I posted my problem in this forum.
So is there any better solution to use any mediator between these USB version handling, Please let me know.
    Thanks

  • Error when connect huawei e220 on macbook pro

any one can help me...does e220 compatible with macbook pro ?

I wrote a howto that applies to t-mobile in the UK however it can be adapted to be used with any provider. you just need to know your providers APN, dial string and username and password (a username and password is not always necessary)
I have the HUAWEI mobile E220.
Using the drivers that came with my T-mobile webnwalk pack it worked first time in leopard.
You can get the drivers from my dot mac space
    http://homepage.mac.com/timhaigh/E220_Drivers.zip
Once installed you can use the HuaweiDataCardApp to set your APN.
I don't require anyother 3rd party software to make the conneciton.
    I went to SystemPreferences-->Network-->Location -->Edit Locations
    click the +
I added HSDPA as my location name.
    Then I chose add configuration
    I called it 'T-Mobile'
I used *99# as the telephone number
my provider does not require me to use a username and password so I left that blank.
I checked 'show modem status in menubar'
    Then click Advanced.
    click the modem tab
    Vendor:Other
    Model: Huawi Mobile Connect
I have enabled error correction checked
Dial mode 'ignore dial when dialing'
    Then click the PPP tab
    Settings:configuration
    uncheck 'send PPP echopackets'
    Then click ok
    then Apply
Now to engage the connection I plug in the usb modem wait for the green or blue light to flash.
I goto the menubar modem icon and choose Connect HuawaiMobile
    This works.
Now to monitor my modem signal, usage etc I use cheetahwatch
    http://m.ac.nz/cheetahwatch/
    Good luck

  • Huawei E1762 USB Broadband connectivity issue in macbook pro 13" 2011:

The Dongle is giving issues with Mac book Pro 13" Feb 2011. This is my first Mac and so i dont have idea if the same problem existed for other macbook pros. The speed drops to zero and sometimes it gets disconnected automatically. I also tried using the Mobile partner dashboard for the huawei E 1762 but it doesnt help.
Is anyone facing the same problem? Please help as i have to travel a lot and using USB broadband is the only option.

I have read some of the dongle firmware need to be upgrade, check with your ISP.
Im using a E1550 3g dongle which after I have updated my MBP to 10.6.7, it didnt work at all. Called my ISP, use Vodafone program instead of Mobile partner, and it works great now.
    Hope this is helpful.

  • Huawei E220 and Macbook air

When I plug my E220 into my Air I get an error message that the Air cannot recognise the drive. If I plug the same E220 into my iMac it works and connects fine. The same Huawei software is loaded on both machines. Any ideas?

    Hi,
I am experiencing the same. While the modem is connected it generates logs (as mentioned before) into /var/log/system like this:

    May 30 11:19:37 *-MacBook kernel[0]: ::AddtoQueue: Exit, Return: 81.

    May 30 11:19:52 *-MacBook kernel[0]: ::dataReadComplete: State:-431226754, Read len:164, return status 0.
it is quite annoying as the file grows and HD keeps writing the data continuously.
Neither of the mentioned methods helped - disconnecting/reconnecting the modem, restarting the computer nor reinstalling the driver.
I have googled the internet for possible solution, but only thing I was able to found was this forum and one more with unanswered question
Any hints how to fix the problem?

  • Huawei E220 HSDPA USB modem on MacBook Pro

    Hello
I'm trying to get the Huawei E220 usb modem to work on my MacBook Pro, but without luck so far. When I plug it in, nothing happens (except for a green LED blinking on the modem), but it doesn't appear anywhere in the system preferences / networking settings.
I tried to find some software for macos for this modem, without luck ... there is a dashboard application from Vodafone (Mobile Connect), but it is available for PPC only.
On the other hand, I found quite a few resources on the internet that mentioned that this modem should work on a MacBook Pro, which is why I got it in the first place.
Does anyone have a hint.. maybe? Please?

Plug in the modem when computer is on WAIT klick on the installt the software screen to run the software from the modem,(mine Huawei E220 from ,3.dk)install the software WAIT, type in the phone number when requered(if required), my standard password when i start the modem is 1234 you can change that(or use old ), and then connect to the internet manuelly(automatic if it is set up for that), dont connect the modem to the internet, if you want to adjust the modem so it vill start connecting automatic or to make other adjustments my computer L40-18R

  • Can't use my USB modem "HUAWEI model E156G" on my MACBook Pro

I'm new to MAC (I used to be a windows user) and I'm a little bit frustrated for not being able to use my USB modem "Huawie E156G" for connecting my new MacBook Pro!
    I followed these steps:
Got the USB modem drivers found on Huawei site that should support my USB modem model. there were 2 drivers, one for "Intel" and another one for "PowerPC" platforms
First, I installed the "Intel" version succesfully. According to the steps, I tried to run the installed driver, but I got the following message:
"you cant open the app HuaweiDataCardApp because PowerPC app are no longer supported".
I repeated the installation procedure using the "PowerPC" version that finished succesfully (without removing the previous installed driver because dont know how to do that). I got the same message when running the driver application:
"you cant open the app HuaweiDataCardApp because PowerPC app are no longer supported".
It would be much appreciated if anyone can help me
Note: my MAC OS is MAC OS X Lion 10.7.2 (11C74), Processor Intel Core I5
    Thanks
