Hub 4 versus Hub 2

Hi all
After several weeks of experiencing dropouts on my wireless when using a SMART tv to watch films etc, and contacting BT to assist who changed the wireless channel, it's still buffering or completely frozen, no other users on line and approxamately 3.06 MBPS upload speed after using BT speedtester, hasanyone found the new BT home hub 4 to be any better than the 5 year old BT home hub2??
Any assistance appreciated.

I tested the HH4 when it was first introduced, whilst the wifi side was very good with a strong signal and the dualband proving very useful, the overall result was poor as it would not hold a stable connection to the Internet. After several weeks of use and frustration I reverted to my HH2 which is much more stable.
Just one other point though, my exchange was upgraded to ADSL Multicast a few weeks ago and since then there have been intermittent disconnections with slower browser page loads, I wonder whether BT reserve bandwidth for streaming now they have installed Multicast.

  • Hub versus Switch to Add Ports to AE

Having an issue getting some devices to connect to my new (this year) Airport Extreme. I have a 10/100 hub which is several years old which I thought might be the problem but now I'm having doubts based on discussions I've reviewed.
I thought maybe I needed a switch. The biggest issue is with the internet connection from my DirectTV receiver which is only happy being connected directly to the AE. I am adding more devices to my network and will need to utilize a couple of hubs. Specific questions:
Should I use a hub or a switch?
Should I avoid daisy-chaining any hubs and/or switches?
Any other considerations to extend my network?
    TIA,
    JD

Should I use a hub or a switch?
A switch provides full bandwidth to each connected device.  A hub splits things up. A switch costs more for that reason, but it would be wise to spend a few more dollars.  By the way, your AirPort Extreme has 10/100/1000 Ethernet ports, so you should use a Gigabit switch if you want to take advantage of the faster 1000 Mpbs speeds.
Should I avoid daisy-chaining any hubs and/or switches?
No problem to add additional switches as long as they are all Gigabit capable and you are using CAT5e or CAT6 cabling.

  • External hub not working

I had to disconnect the external hub from the ZS pro sound card on my XP system and on reconnecting I now find that the lights on the hub dont show. It does not do anything, control the volume or work the headphones. The pro gamer G500 speakers can be controlled from the wired controller and the headphones work from it but the on screen display does not show. I have double checked the connection.Has any one got ant ideas please

I have the same problem. Using a powered USB hub to connect my LaCie disk makes no difference versus a direct USB connection to TC.
Overall, I think I have other problems with TC, as I can access it via Time Machine, but not via Finder. I can see it in Finder, but any attempt to connect this way results in a "Connection Failed" message

  • Connecting with a Wireless Printer on Home Hub 3.

How do I get a XP Notebook to connect with the HP Photosmart 6510 connected wirelessly to my BT Home Hub 3.
My Network Places shows BT Home Hub 3.
Double click on HH3 and scrolling down to My Home Network.
You can see HPFE0AAB under wireless network, which is the HP Photosmart 6510.
According to the Photosmart it’s url is 192.168.7.71 and it is correctly connected to the hub.
The XP Notebook does have the relevant basic printing drivers installed for the Photosmart.
Perhaps I should add that I gave up trying to connect the Windows 8 Desktop to the printer wirelessly and used a USB instead. I’m not sure if the problem is with the set up of the Notebook or the Hub. I have tried turning off firewalls which so far seems to make no difference. I am running MSE on the Notebook and Defender on the Desk Top.
I've tried so many approaches I'mgoing round in circles.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Here are the GENERAL steps on how to add a wireless printer on your wireless network.
As you have said that it is already connected and visible to the network it is a case of checking the settings below then if ok go to “adding printer to your networked computer” section
The wireless printer must have a static (i.e., manual) IP address assigned to it from your network IP address range. It cannot be DHCP enabled, otherwise every time DHCP assigns a new address, your printer port will stop working.
How to set a manual IP address on your printer:
When the printer is connected to the network the first time, the router will assign an IP address to it. To get the IP address that the printer was assigned, find the printer on your network and right click on it. It will bring up a properties box. The IP address for the printer will be found somewhere in there.
Using an Internet browser, type the IP address of the printer into the address line of the browser and press enter. It should bring up a printer configuration window.
Now, since each printer is different, I can't give you the exact steps, HOWEVER, here's what you are looking for:
Find a Network - TCP/IP configuration menu. Somewhere in that menu, it will give you the choice of setting a manual or static IP address versus a DHCP (Dynamic Host Control Protocol) assigned address.
You want to manually set the IP address to the address given on the configuration page. This would normally be 192.168.1.xx. The subnet mask will normally be 255.255.255.0 and the gateway will normally be the IP of the router, usually 192.168.1.254
Once the IP address is assigned permanently to the printer as a static address, you are now ready to add the printer to each computer on your network.
Add the Printer to Your Networked Computers
In Windows XP, follow these steps to add the wireless printer to your computer:
Go to Start, Printers and Faxes.
    Double click on Add Printer
    Click Next.
On the Local or Network Printer dialog box, choose Local Printer and UNCHECK the box that says "Automatically detect" the printer. Click Next.
On the Select a Printer Port window, choose to Create a New Port, and then under Type of Port, choose Standard TCP/IP port. Click Next.
Make sure the printer is On and Ready, and connected to the network. Click Next.
Type in the static IP address of the printer that you set in the steps above. Click Next.
It will then try to connect to that IP address. It you typed it wrong, or the printer is off, it will come back and give you an error.
If all is well, it should then ask you for the printer driver. Either set it to find the driver that you have previously installed or insert the CD for the printer, and find the Windows XP version of the driver.
Then choose the driver you want to install.
Click Next. It will install the driver and ask you to name the printer.
When it is done, click Finish. (You can choose to print a test page if you want).
    Hope this helps.

  • Improvements using a BT Business Hub 2700HGV

    Hello fora!
I have just got my hands on a BT Business Hub 2700HGV which I am trying at the moment.. Safe to say when compared with my Home Hub v2 its a lot better! My line was sync'ing at 4mb on the home hub, but is now managing 5.5mb!!!
Has anyone ever noticed anything like this happening? My line is perfectly stable on the Business Hub and have had no dropouts.. On the Homehub I used to have a couple of dropouts a week.
Is this a sign of a dodgy home hub? or are the Business Hubs a lot better at maintaining a connection across a long(ish) line?

In my experience, the 2700HGV is the best modem/router for hanging on to a long or noisy line and is also best at squeezing the maximum performance out of a good line. I see a similar big improvement on my line versus a HomeHub2.
The slight downside is that you cannot use Hubphones with a 2700HGV as it does not have that capability.
To use BB Talk, you need to hook an ordinary wired or wireless phone into the phone port  on the 2700HGV using the supplied phone adaptor and then set up the BB Talk. You can "break out" onto the normal voice line by dialling 5 on the phone connected to the 2700HGV, but, AFAIK, you cannot get normal voice line calls to ring on the phone connected to the 2700HGV like you can with the HomeHub2
    WARNING TO OTHERS:
If you buy a 2700HGV off of ebay or elsewhere, make absolutely sure it is NOT one that has been "cracked" for use on non-BT services as it will almost ceratinly not work on BT!

  • Error while assigning constant to infoobject in open hub transformation

While assigning constants(in rule details) to infoobject in a transformation in a open hub I am getting an error "The Object Name is not allowed to be empty"
Can anyone tell my why this is happening? What should I do now?

    Hi,
In the transformation, have you connected that rule to any target field of your destination? If not, then do that and then try to create the routine.

  • Laptop can no longer connect - Hub doesn't seem to see it any more

Hi Please bear with me - this is probably going to be long! I have been tearing my hair out for the last 36 hours trying all sorts of things to get my laptop to connect to the hub, but to no avail. Also, I am no tech expert - everything I know I find out by googling/reading forums like these. It used to connect, no problem.Laptop (an old Dell, running XP Pro) still 'sees' the Skyhub. But it seems the Skyhub no longer sees the laptop (not in list of wireless devices). My Samsung tablet and my son's Chromebook both connect successfully to Skyhub.Laptop connects successfully with nearby unsecured BT-FON networks.Laptop connects successfully with Skyhub via ethernet cable.  Things I've tried (not sure i can remember them all, haha):Disabled firewallTurned off encryptionRan windows update to laptop while connected via ethernetPinged what I think is the hub's IP address (192.168.0.1)  Nothing. 4 packets sent, 0 received, 4 packets lost.Used cmd prompt to try various suggestions I've read on forums - renewing IP, flushing winsock, etc. Don't understand half of what I did but I typed commands carefully, but didn't solve connection problem.I have tried changing the channel at both the hub end and the laptop end.I have tried entering IP address manually (and subnet mask and gateway and DNS servers). Didn't work so set it all back to 'obtain automatically'.I have pressed button on hub until light flashed 4 times, thereby putting it back to factory settings.A windows diagnostic test shows IP address failure after trying to connect to Skyhub.I have uninstalled/reinstalled/tried updating the wireless network card on my laptop. It says it is working properly.I have opened inSSIDer, and laptop quite clearly sees the Skyhub, and is receiving a strong signal. I'm a bit confused why it says the security is "WPA2-Enterprise". The Skyhub itself says security is WPA2-PSK (AES)Mindst, even with security turned off, laptop still cannot connect. So:Skyhub is still working on wired PC, and wirelessly for tablet and chromebook.Laptop is still working because it can connect okay to neighbouring networks. As a non-techie, it seems to me that something is stopping the hub from 'seeing' the laptop, and assigning it an IP address. But what?!Thanks in advance for any help.Louise I have taken a few photos:  https://www.flickr.com/photos/35233074@N04/

Hi. I have to say that your problem Louise seems very close to mine. My work laptop (Lenovo Thinkpad T430, reasonably up-to-date) has secure direct access connection capability to my employer's network. However, while the laptop connects easily by wireless connection to my Sky router no internet access from the router outwards. This is a recent (last 1 – 2 months) issue and started as intermittent – the internet connection would come and go without any apparent rhyme or reason. It is now apparently a permanent issue. It is also only a wireless problem - it seems to connect to the internet OK by cable to the router. This is while at the same time other devices connected to the router get internet access fine. There are only about 7 or 8 devices max connecting wirelessly to the router at any given session. My workplace IT Service staff have investigated but washed their hands of the issue as the laptop connects fine both wirelessly and by cable to the workplace corporate network. My Sky router is a Sagem model (no model no. is evident – it’s an older model then the current Hubs) of probably 5 or 6 years vintage (I’m note sure of that). Does anyone have any suggestions? I should also say that at present I can’t access or alter any of the laptop connection settings because the work’s IT Services won’t give me the necessary device admin rights yet equally won’t attempt to resolve it because it’s my home network issue! Don’t let that put you off suggesting connection setup fixes though (I’ll happily put these to workplace IT Services! Specifically though – is there way to restore the router’s firmware to the last time it worked? Mark

The lack of loopback on Home Hub 3 is making me considering quitting BT Infinity. Why? Because as a software developer this is a giant paint in the **bleep**!
Every application I develop from home has to use local IP addresses, which means it keeps adding development time to my projects as I cannot use hostnames and have to keep writing go-arounds. It's a giant PITA!
I mean, sure, if you didn't support some wacky new technology that only 1% of people used then that'd be understandable but BT Infinity is FAST internet and people who pay £40 a month for FAST internet usually aren't the clueless old people you think they are!
I don't even like BT I think you lot are a bunch of crooks, but I don't live in a cabled area in my new house so I'm stuck with you. Considering moving to a friends FTTC service even if I do have to pay £20 extra a month.
So BT, pull your finger out of your god **bleep** **bleep**, hire some decent developers and fix your **bleep** because I and thousands of other customers are wound up by this. You're doing nothing to inspire loyalty. Nothing.

You do have the alternative of using your own router, there are plenty of cheap cable routers available.
If you only have one PC connected, then you can connect it directly to the modem, by setting up a PPPoE network connection type.

  • What's a good USB 3.0 hub?

I've got a late 2012 Mac mini. Mavericks OS (10.9.4). I have lots of USB devices, most of them of the 2.0 variety, a couple 3.0. I bought an inexpensive "USB 3.0" hub, and it causes the Mac not to wake from sleep mode. Instead it just powers off, and I have to unplug it from the wall before it will reboot. So I've gone back to my old 2.0 hub for the majority of my gear, but I've got a couple of drives that want 3.0 connections to function efficiently.
From what I can tell, it's the mixing of USB 2.0 and 3.0 that is causing problems. I'm not sure if the ports on the mini are paralleled, or are on separate power and driver chips. But so far, I can keep 3.0 devices plugged into the computer and 2.0 into my hub. That's fine 'til I need to plug in a 3.0 flash drive. I cannot make it work with the two hubs - I still have the same "no wake up" issue, unless nothing is plugged into the 3.0 hub. SO...
Who makes a robust USB 3.0 hub? The Belkin sold at the Apple website has roundly terrible reviews. I'd rather not be a guinea pig again. Does anyone have serious experience with these? It's not enough that you have one and it works. I'd like to know that you understand the workings a bit better than I do, and maybe can even explain to me what might be causing this incompatibility.
    Thanks.

I want to use my Time Capsule as a central 'hub/hard-drive' in order to keep all my working files in one place. I then plan to use my laptops/desktops as peripheral devices for editing and creation of these files. Is it possible? To create a personal cloud?

I am looking to have all my files in one place as i am hopelessly disorganised. I know the online clouds are a good solution (used Dropbox at work and uni for 3 years) however i am wanting to create my own 'dropbox/icloud' at home. So whenever i get back home with my laptop, any work i have been working on whilst out that day is updated to the timecapsule, and then ultimately as i turn on the other devices, they update to those newer versions of the files. Please tell me that the 3TB time capsule i have can do this, otherwise it feels rather overpriced as a wireless storage device?
Another note (to those in the know) If i am to be working on large files (REVIT/SOLIDWORKS/KEYSHOT/CREO/AUTOCAD) - is the timecapsule connection good enough to support editing and updating these files?
I know i may be asking a question that many have before, but as a bit of a technical novice I wanted a clear-cut answer to my specific circumstances. Your help is greatly appreciated.
(*can i use this WD hard-drive that is connected to the Time Capsule as a back up? so that the time machine back-ups/any back ups are also backed up onto this one? can the WD be a backup for the TC?)
    Kind Regards

  • Open Hub: How-to doc "How to Extract data with Open Hub to a Logical File"

    Hi all,
We are using open hub to download transaction files from infocubes to application server, and would like to have filename which is dynamic based period and year, i.e. period and year of the transaction data to be downloaded.
I understand we could use logical file for this purpose.  However we are not sure how to have the period and year to be dynamically derived in filename.
I have read in sdn a number of posted messages on a similar topic and many have suggested a 'How-to' paper titled "How to Extract data with Open Hub to a Logical Filename".  However i could not seem to be able to get document from the link given.
Just wonder if anyone has the correct or latest link to the document, or would appreciate if you could share the document with all in sdn if you have a copy.
    Many thanks and best regards,
    Victoria

    Hi,
After creating open hub press F1 in Application server file name text box from the help window there u Click on Maintain 'Client independent file names and file paths'  then u will be taken to the Implementation guide screen > click on Cross client maintanance of file name > create a logical file path by clicking on new entiries > after creating logical file path now go to Logical file name definition there give your Logical file , name , physical file (ur file name followed by month or year what ever is applicable (press f1 for more info)) , data format (ASC) , application area (BW) and logical path (choose from F4 selection which u have created first), now goto Assignment of  physical path to logical path > give syntax group >physical path is the path u gave at logical file name definition.
however we have created a logical path file name to identify the file by sys date but ur requirement seems to be of dynamic date of tranaction data...may u can achieve this by creating a variable. U can see the help from F1 that would be of much help to u. All the above steps i have explained will help u create a dynamic logical file.
hope this helps u to some extent.

    Hi All,
I have created Open hub destination in BI 7.0 on one custom cube. I am trying to create file on application server using this open hub. I have also created logical filename etc..
When I ran the DTP for this open hub, I am getting following error:
    Runtime Errors UNCAUGHT_EXCEPTION
    Except. CX_RSB_WRITE_ERROR
This was running fine on DEV and QA system but giving this error in PRD.
    Any clue about this error?
    Thanks in advance.

    Hello,
it seems the logical path for logical filename is not correct. Could you please check it in t-code FILE?

  • Open Hub not extracting all data in CUBE

We created an FI-SL cube and use the OPEN HUB process to extract the current value of accounts.  The problem is that not all the data is being extracted.
I have a couple of examples where some of the data in the CUBE is not being extracted by the OPEN HUB process.  I have checked the filter and it is setup properly.  I have manually validated the data in the CUBE.
It is very strange that the data is in the CUBE correctly, but just being extracted.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks,

    Ashok,
This is the first time I have seen a comment about the field limitation.
+ A previous message from Deepak Simon states:
"I want to extract data from a cube with more than 16 fields."+
We are using BI 7.0...is that restriction still in place for this version?
