HuffYUV in Win64

Hello. I've seen this issue in a few other forums, but no methods have gotten me to my final target of being able to edit HuffYUV video (1080 24p) in Premiere or After Effects. I tried huffyuv-1.3.1, huffyuv-2.1.1, and huffyuv64. I have read that the first two are 32 bit codecs, and I am running Windows 7 64, but there is a DOS workaround that people seem to swear by:
After installing the codec...
1) Enter CMD as Administrator (CMD, cntrl+shft+enter) and access cd c:\windows\syswow64
2) Run the following command: rundll32.exe setupapi.dll,InstallHinfSection DefaultInstall 0 c:\huffyuv.inf
That last file path in step 2 actually depends on where huffyuv has been installed (mine shifted between C: and another local). After doing this, my VLC player can play this media much better than before, but no other players (Quicktime, WMP) will interpret the footage, and imports into either Premiere or AE yield the same prompt: "Unsupported format or damaged file."
I realize I am trying out many different versions, and was sure to delete all before trying a new one, but I feel as though I am missing something else. Can anybody advise?
Thanks,
Colyn

If you dont really need huffYuv i would consider Lagarith, no problem installing on W7/64.

  • ICC Profiles for Win64

I am running PS 6 for win64. Today I suddenly starting getting an error message saying that my ICC profiles are invalid. When I try to write a raw file to .tif after it has been converted to black/white, I get a corrupted .tif file.
So I have been trying to reinstall these profile files using the ones for PS4 as provided on your web site. But they won't install properly, and the problem persists.
    What should I do?

    Hi Yammer,
You are right, I should have said that I was working in CR.
    I am using CR 7.3.
I have just tried changing to sRGB and saving to .TIFF with the button at lower left side.
SUCCESS! The file is now shown as I intended in grayscale.
Apparently at some point I inadvertently changed the color space.
Your help has been extremely valuable. Thanks a lot.

    Hi,
Did you use the generic installer or the win32 one ? You should use the former with Win64.
You can also check that your version of Java is supported in the certification matrix.

    Hi !
The quesion is for Oracle people.
    Pro*Cobol is missing in 10g for win64.
Any chances to get it ?
As a matter of fact if you precompile on HPUX (64-bit) even on 9i and edit the produced code, you can make your program work.

As Manish-Sharam said, if it doesn't show up, it isn't supported on your system (barring issues with AAM itself, of course). Read the system requirements.

    Hi,
I am using firefox (latest release 32bit) for the download from the ftp site. I also tried WinSCP and with WinSCP I get an error message lost connection at the end of the download.
That gave me an idea ... I tried the same path download but instead of FTP:// I tried the HTTP:// and with the http protocol (for the download) it worked.
It look that there is a problem with the ftp site on Mozilla Server.
Someone should mention Mozilla that their FTP server need at lest a reboot , hopefully it will solve the download bug.

  • Inclusion of SunPKCS11 provider in java 6 release for win64 platform

Are there plans on including a win64 version of the SunPKCS11 provider in an upcoming Java 6 jdk/jre release? I know it is not available in the 1.6.0_16 release, and I don’t believe it was added to the 1.6.0_17 release. (Another forum member posted a similar question to the cryptography topic in June of last year , but no one responded.)

I agree! The two files that are missing are SunPKCS11.jar and the native dll j2pkcs11.dll.
I guess it requires the build process to compile the j2pkcs11.dll for Win64.

  • Downloading coldfusion-801-win64.exe

I seem to have misplaced the 64bit installer for CF8.01 and I need to go from 32bit to 64bit server ... I tried the regular install but it didn't work and I don't want to fool around with IIS7.5 compatibility options. I'm getting 404.3 error, the MIME type is not set. • Using codec huffyuv in premiere elements

I have a 22GB film I would like to edit and burn to Blu-ray Elements 13.  It is encoded in HuffyUV, a lossless codec.  Elements would not open it.  So I downloaded ffdshow, an encoder that will open it.  But Elements still would not open it.
    Any suggestions?

I'm just wondering why you would want a VHS on Blu-Ray?  Unless the file was upscaled to High-Definition resolution at capture time, I would not recommend Blu-Ray; I would recommend going to DVD, and then using an upscaling DVD/Blu-Ray player, which, for most of the time, does an even better job at upscaling than a lot of the upscaling techniques out there.
Also I don't use Huffyuv (and with Digitalfaqs.com, I disagree with a lot of what the owner says in the forum, especially when it comes to capture, as I have tried capturing using 4:2:0 sources such as set top DVD recorders and the cheap USB MPEG-2 or 4 capture devices that DigitalFAQS Staff prefers to use, since I've found I always got an oversaturated image when playing the video back over anything but a yellow composite cable.  This is even when I have adjusted the setup controls of the various devices.  Even when I'm shooting and editing HD footage, I hate the 4:2:0 Color of AVCHD as I find it lowers the quality of the image, not to mention at about 4GB per hour in H.264-MP4; in black and whit it's fine but not in color) as I've tested it and have not found it to give me the picture quality that I'm looking for.  And at 22GB, unless it's a short video, for a 1 hour time length it sounds like it's already heavily compressed; and going to H.264 is just going to compress an already compressed image even further, and give you poor quality footage.  Also the official version of Huffyuv has not been updated since 2002.
Unless I really need to for editing into a project where I need 4:2:2 from VHS, I capture VHS (using a S-VHS deck) as a 25GB/hour DV file through an ADVC-300, and between my Time Base Correctors/ProcAMPS and the ADVC-300's own controls (that I access through the ADVC's included software), I get a very high quality transfer and an output, that even when I play the DVD in an upressing DVD player, the Colors are not over saturated, nor are they bleeding into other colors.  (Of course VHS transfers are always going to look soft when compared to other video tape formats such as Hi8.). I even transfer the DVD's of productions that I've volunteered on for my local community television station, to my hard drive as DV's to use in my resume reels, and I transfer them through the ADVC-300 via a yellow composite out from a DVD player.  (I use a set top DVD recorder, the Sony RDR-GX380, to record the broadcasts from analog cable, and even if I was going from digital cable the recorder does not record in component video, unless you are going in through the firewire port, and even there you would need to convert to DV for the recorder to recognize the video---the manual even says that the recorder will not capture video from Sony's MicroMV MPEG-2 through the firewire---it only has composite inputs through the RF connector and a couple of yellow RCA's.  And the 2D color separator is the worst, so even when I check to make sure that the recorder has recorded the desired broadcast via HDMI, it is a horrible mess, with the ADVC-300 it has a superior 3D separator that gives me the Colors and look that I'm looking for).
I even have college tapes from years ago that, while I still have the original VHS and S-VHS masters, I transferred to miniDV tape using the old JVC S-VHS/MiniDV decks that the college had, and then a few years later, using a s-vhs recorder and Samsung DVD recorder, and I still use the Mini DV versions, as I was just looking at the DVD's the other day, and everyone looks like they have a fever, when compared to the originals or the MiniDV's.
But, yeah, unless the files were upscaled during at the capturing point, there is no point in going to Blu-Ray (and on Blu-Ray, if you stay in the SD domain it is encoded in MPEG-2, just like DVD), as you'll just be doing a software upscale which is never as good as a hardware upscale.   But you might want to try converting your Huffyuv footage to DV as that will work with Elements.
sorry I keep adding to this, but pnoyes, I just saw your thing about the time.  An hour and 3 minutes?  Good grief DVD will give you good quality video (if captured and burned correctly) at up to a 2 hour 10 minute maximum.  I burn 2 hour DVD's all the time for people and as long as you don't go beyond the 2 hour 10 minute mark, your video will still look it's best, even when it's in a DVD player being upscaled to 1080p.  Sorry, but DigitalFAQ's was giving you a lot of misinformation.

  • CS4 and huffyuv

    Hello.
I'm trying to use huffyuv lossless codec. It works for the most part but in certain video clips i get the "cant retrieve frame from something.avi" error. Always with the same clip and at the same frame. The clip itself isnt damaged (i can work with it outside of after effects). If I decompress it to regular uncompressed avi it works fine.
Any idea if its a fixable problem? I'm working with some digitally produced images with one color background which results in about a 70% decrease of the clip sizes, so it isnt just a small inconvenience.
    Thanks!

If you get the error, the clip is damaged. It may not have any impact on the visual presentation of the pixels, but the streams are damaged at that frame regardless of what you think otherwise. This can be anything from a slight TC offset to something weird with audio and metadata streams. The reason you are not having trouble with other tools, is probably that they don't care much or apply some error correction. Anyway, if you encounter such a file, converting it is your only option. HuffYUV hasn't been much updated in eons, so in terms of future-proofness it's not the best choice to archive and transfer your files anymore. You really should consider switching to QT and its CoDecs. They still support legacy stuff like Animation and PNG and JPG2000 do a pretty decent job at lossless compression. as an alternative, consider image sequences. LZW-compressed TIFFs and PNGs can be very small, if indeed there is a lot of evenly colored areas. An lest we forget: Now that AE supports OpenEXR fully, it should be a no-brainer to use that format. It's file sizes can be ridiculously small even at full 32bpc if you use B44 compression...
