Huge bug in iPhoto since 9.3

I used my iMac with Snow Leopard and iPhoto 9.2 and all was fine. Last Summer I bought my MB Retina with Mountain Lion and so I was able to use iPhoto 9.3. Several months I imported photos and then I installed aperture 3. I found out, that the focusing points are missing on all photos that are imported with iPhoto 9.3 or later. All photos imported with 9.2 or earlier were fine.
So I deleted all photos since summer and imported them again with Aperture. Luckily I'm not trusting Apple that much, so I stored all my original photos additional to an extra harddrive outside iPhoto.
I told the bug to the support, but it looks like, no one cares about. I've just updated to 9.4.3 and the bug is still there.

Hello Harry468,
please check the following, if iPhoto realy destroys the your photo data upon import, or if the problem is at any other point:
open Finder
rightclick on the iPhoto Library ->> leftclick show contents
you are now within the iPhoto Library
search the Masters or Original folder
within one of this folders you find your events and within the events the single photos
COPY one of these photos directly to the desktop and import
it directly from Aperture..
Are Focus Points correctly shown?
If yes, then iPhoto doesn´t destroy the data, but nevertheless the old workflow can´t be used, because importing to iPhoto seems to make it impossible to use the Points in Aperture.
And yes, I would also call this a bug, even if there are workarounds.

  • Bug in iPhoto 6?  Blank images in edit and slideshows

    Hi...
Have read a few threads on this topic, and it seems to be widespread. The usual helpful comments are made, but I really don't think that this has anything to do with something that the users are doing (e.g. copying libraries, moving libraries, etc..). Also, it seems to be happening to a number of people in exactly the same way, since iPhoto 6 was launched.
I have been using iPhoto since the beginning, have about 40,000 files in several libraries, and I have never seen anything like this.
The problem is that out of several hundred images in an individual library (uncopied, and not edited at the finder level or anywhere but iPhoto), a few of them are blank when you view them in edit mode or in a slideshow. This seems to be some sort of internal iPhoto corruption, and not related to the photos themselves (same camera and computer hardware that I have been using for years).
Also, the images themselves seem to be OK. When you export them from iPhoto to the desktop and open them in Preview or Photoshop, they are fine, and when you reimport them into iPhoto, they seem OK too.
Obviously, this is a big problem, and even though I can workaround for a single photo, I can't be doing this on an ongoing basis for all of my shots..
Anyone have any ideas? Is there a way to submit this question to Apple directly?
    Thanks very much!!
    Mike

I foolishly tried this on a separate Mac on a different library, that one with 22000 images that I had not edited (since the old iPhoto would just die a slow death on that sized library).
I actually only spent the money for iPhoto 6 (iLife's remainder package did not have any compelling use for me right now) and its ability to handle 25000 images.
Well, it is faster (i.e. it does not go to sleep for 12 minutes) if I click the scroll button but the blank images problem showed up there also. And ALL of those pictures were standard jpgs and not one was from a weird camera or ever modified or otherwise tweaked if that were an excuse for iPhoto 6 misbehaving with some pictures.
VERY annoying and very strange that they would not see this in Beta testing. Assuming they do test. So, folks, if you are planning to buy iLife for iPhoto, be forewarned. I will add this to my TO BUY OR NOT TO BUY blog entries at http://imran.com/media/blog/ so people are aware.
    regards

  • HUGE BUG IN Flash Player 9

I ran into this huge massive bug in FP9..
    Reproduction steps:
    1. Goto Flash Download page.
    2. Select version 9 for Linux.
    3. Install
This normally breaks down around step 2.

So its not a bug in the player .. its a problem in the
    download of it.
Doesn't sounds like a massively huge bug in the player at

  • Bug in iPhoto v6 when using Mail

Bug in image quality when sending photos with Mail.
    Description:
I click on Email icon in iPhoto, and then choose Medium as the quality, that's when iPhoto tells me that the Photo Count = 1, and Estimated Size = 122Kb. And then the Mail app opens, and I see the same photo inside the message composition window, and now Mail tells me that the Message Size = 55Kb (on the status line at the bottom). And When I send that photo to myself, I receive a photo which is about 40Kb in size, and the photo looks just terrible... how can it look good at 640x480 with only 40Kb?
Is this a bug, or I can change the jpeg quality somewhere? My friend has a 2-year old iMac with iPhoto 5 and when she sends me pictures the same Medium size they are closer to 100Kb each
We did a little test: I sent her the same photo in original size, and then she sent me back the Medium Size, and it was around 90Kb. How can I fix/change this, or am I cursed by this BUG in iPhoto v. 6? or a bug in Mail?
    Thanks.
MacBook Pro 2.4 GHz   Mac OS X (10.4.10)

    Misio:
Even though iPhoto said the final size would be 122 KB for a medium size, my test, a 4.2 MB file came in at 68 KB. Another test with a 2 MB file was estimated at 122 KB but came in around the 68 KB size. I think the 122 kb value is hard coded into the application as an approximation only before compressing and not really a bug. Maybe a poor approximation, however.
    Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've written an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • Huge bug in messages in iOS6

Anyone noticed the massive bug in messages since iOS6? If you select any of your previous message threads that were there pre-update that show as coming from a name rather than a number, eg banking, companies, etc - the preview is there but then when you touch it to drill down it shows blank, go back and hey presto the entry has completely disappeared. Force close messages and it comes back - but only to do the same thing.
I don't think the messages are being cleared as they come back when you quit i think it is just a bug in showing the messages - but this really needs fixing quick!!!!
Pretty poor bug to introduce this really.
Edit: Actually already posted/spotted by other people https://discussions.apple.com/message/19635920#19635920
    This needs fixing pronto!!!!!!!

Perhaps this is a stupid question, but I don't see anywhere that you said you saved the file anywhere.  You just said you opened Pages, worked on a document for a while, then closed Pages.  Did you ever, at any point, save the document you were working on to the desired folder on the external drive, or were you just expecting Pages to do that for you?  If the latter, note that Pages cannot know where you want to save a file, and though it will do its best not to lose your changes to a document that has not yet been saved to a specific location, that document can only be saved temporarily to the system drive.
If you did save it to the external drive, but you either didn't see the document in that location at all when you got home or you saw it but it did not contain your changes, the only possibilities I see are user error or a serious problem with your system.
Also, note that you're getting some bad information here.  The .DocumentRevisions-V100 is not stored on the "root drive" (whatever that is supposed to mean).  It is stored at the root level of whatever drive the document in question is stored on, assuming that volume is formatted as HFS+.  (If it isn't, there's a problem that applies to Versions, but not to the specific problem you have described.  See Beware Lion’s Versions Bug on Network and Non-HFS+ Volumes.)
So, if the document has, in fact, been saved to the external drive, and that drive is not formatted as HFS+, then you will be unable to use Versions with that document, but autosave will still work just fine, and you should see your latest changes in the document regardless of where you are.

  • I downloaded yosemite as the new operating system but I can't find iphotos since then

I restored my mac to factory settings and downloaded yosemite as the new operating system but I can't find iphotos since then. When I go into Icloud it takes me to apple page. PLease help!
    <Re-Titled By Host>

1 - you need to update your profile as you state that you have OS X 10.6.3 in it
2 - for Yosemite you need to backup your iPhoto library and install iPhoto 9.6 from the App store - if you are upgrading from iPhoto '08 or earlier you need to also run the iPhoto Library upgrader prior to launching iPhoto 9.6
3 - Your photos are NOT in iCloud - it is not a place to store photos - it is only to move photos between devices (MyPhotoStream) or people (shared PhotoStreams) - they are (by default) in the iphoto library in your pictures folder - if you did not backup your iphoto library prior to erasing you disk then they are gone

  • A huge bug for captivate 5.0.1 updated

    Hi!
Today I have updated captivate 5 successfully, but found a huge bug!
That is I can't copy and cut any things(e.g. botton, text box...)
If I do copy or cut,the software will stop and never be changed.I can't do anything.
This's terrible! anyone may tell me how to solve it?
    Or wait for next update?
    Thanks!
    kain

    Hi Kain,
Bit difficult to detect the cause, I have patched CP too and do not have that issue at all, neither did I hear about it on this forum until your question. What OS are you on? If it is Vista or Win7 do you run CP as an administrator?
If you did not customize preferences (a lot), I would suggest to delete the preferences folder, while Captivate is closed. When you restart it a fresh folder will be created by CP. It depends on your OS where this folder (labeled Captivate 5) is residing. I'm on Win7 and can find it in:  <username>\AppData\Roaming\Adobe

    Thx Leonie,
Surprisingly, I just went to the crash reporter and there were no reports re: the iPhoto issue. This is the only report I found, which I not sure is related to the iPhoto issue:

As for the TimeCapsule indeed, I use it as an extended drive but I'm surprised it would be considered a FAT-32 formatted drive as this is an Apple device.
I asked the apple reps if I could use the TimeCapsule for such purpose and no one raised a concern. It's also surprising that I didn't have an issue with this prior to the upgrade to OS X Yosemite.
Having said the above, thank you for your help - if the TimeCapsule is indeed the issue, perhaps I can solve the issue by transferring the iphoto library to an OS extended hard drive.

  • Can you confirm this Faces bug in iPhoto '11?

I have created an Smart Album "unnamed faces" which should show all photos with "unnamed" faces. It shows about 2,500 of my about 24,000 photos. Some of these have been added recently, some are in the library since the old iPhoto '08 days. I see that some of them often "forget" that I have already rotated them. Even the face frames stay unrotated and are sometimes converted from squares to rectangles. But all this doesn't really matter.
This is what I see as a bug: When I edit such a photo in the Smart Album, it e.g. shows one named face and "1 unnamed". I then rotate the image to have it in the desired portrait or landscape view, remove the wrong, rectangled and named face frame and name the unnamed, correctly placed square face frame with the desired person's name.
Whatever I do next, photos treated this way still tell me they would have 1 named and 1 unnamed face frame. I only see the named, square frame, because I have deleted the old, wrong and rectangled frame before.
Even more strange: When I set the Smart Album parameters like this:
it shows these "damaged" images, which optically only have one named face frame left. The (translated) settings are: "All" conditions: "Face is unnamed" && "Face is not unnamed".
This is really weird and I have no idea how to fix it except deleting and re-importing the images.
PS: Yes, I have already even tried all options of iPhoto Library Manager without success for this issue.

    Back to your original Library:
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. (In Library Manager it's the FIle -> Rebuild command)
This will create an entirely new library. It will then copy (or try to) your photos and all the associated metadata and versions to this new Library, and arrange it as close as it can to what you had in the damaged Library. It does this based on information it finds in the iPhoto sharing mechanism - but that means that things not shared won't be there, so no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your events, albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

  • Cannot play videos in iPhoto since SL upgrade

Since I upgraded to SL, it appears that I cannot play videos that I have loaded to iPhoto. I go into an event in iPhoto in which I have some digital camera videos and they do not play. These used to open in QuickTime and run fine. When I click on the video and choose "Show File", it will show me where the file lives. These are fine on my computer and can now run them from here, but it used to work right in iPhoto. Has anybody had this happen to them? Is it a bug with SL or is there a new setting or something I am missing? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Yes, it's a bug. Have you applied the Mac OS X v10.6.1 Update? If not do so and try again. If that doesn't work all we can do is report the problem to Apple via http://www.apple.com/feedback/iphoto.html.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier versions) database file and keep it current.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. There are versions that are compatible with iPhoto 5, 6, 7 and 8 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. Just put the application in the Dock and click on it whenever you want to backup the dB file. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.
NOTE: The new rebuild option in iPhoto 09 (v. 8.0.2), Rebuild the iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup" makes this tip obsolete.

  • BUG: iPhoto 9 Slideshow - Text Slide Bugs and iPhoto Library Corruption

I was wondering if anyone else has run into the following issues:
I have had multiple issues with iPhoto crashing, stop responding, and database corruption where I cannot open iPhoto. These issues all began when I tried to use the new themed slideshow in iPhoto v9.1. Previously, I had only used iPhoto to create basic slideshows with iPhoto v7.x. I was hoping that I would be able to create my masterpiece in iPhoto 11 (v9.1) but I have only been frustrated by my attempts so far.
What should have been a 3 - 4 hour operation has become a 20 hour nightmare and I still don't have a slideshow to show for my efforts. This has been one of my most disappointing uses of Apple software ever.
Repeatable, reproducible bugs that I have run into include:
    1. Deleting a photo that appears in the timeline before a sub-title causes havoc with subsequent sub-titles (a.k.a. Text Slides). Subsequent subtitles are randomly copied to pictures following the one it was assigned to. Further, there is no subtitle icon in the timeline and the photos have to be manually modified to eliminate the subtitle. Work around is click the "Text Slide" button
    2. Zooming and/or image placement is not preserved and not visible when previewed, exported, or iPhoto is closed and then reopened.
    3. The iPhoto Library becomes corrupt and permissions problems prevent me from working with my photos. This happens while working on slideshow. I have had to rebuild my library and repair permissions no less than five times since I started working on my slideshow.

iPhoto's slideshow feature is fine but no tool for a "masterpiece".
    Alternatives to iPhoto's slideshow include:
iMovie, on every Mac sold, as is iDVD.
    Others, in order of price:
    PhotoPresenter $29
    PhotoToMovie $49.95
    PulpMotion $129
FotoMagico $29 (Home version) ($149 Pro version, which includes PhotoPresenter)
    Final Cut Express $199
It's difficult to compare these apps. They have differences in capability - some are driven off templates. some aren't. Some have a wider variety of transitions. Others will have excellent audio controls. It's worth checking them out to see what meets your needs.
However, there is no doubt that Final Cut Express is the most capable app of them all. You get what you pay for.

  • BUGS in iPhoto 6 if upgrading to OSX Leopard

FYI - I recently upgraded and noticed the following bugs when using iPhoto.
    1. I used to be able to drag and drop thumbnail images from the iPhoto browser onto my Photoshop icon and the respective images would then launch in Photoshop. This no longer works and is very annoying as I do all my image editing in Photoshop since it is more powerful than iPhoto.
    2. When I try to multiselect images to email, iPhoto shows me (quickly) a status bar but then does not launch the images in a new email. It just does nothing. This appears to be a new bug.

    keara
    How did you upgrade?
    1. Re-install Photoshop - if you did anything else to upgrade then a chunk of Photoshop that deals with Applescripts is left out, and Applescript is how this process works. By the way: You can set Photoshop (or any image editor) as an external editor in iPhoto. (Preferences -> General -> Edit Photo: Choose from the Drop Down Menu.) This way, when you double click a pic to edit in iPhoto it will open automatically in Photoshop or your Image Editor, and when you save it it's sent back to iPhoto automatically.
    2. Similarly, this process is also handled by Applescript, so it suggests that somewhere in your install method, your Scripting functions got damaged.

  • Huge Bugs with Many Legs Still Living in Premiere Pro - (Border from Sharpening & Flickering from Adjustment Layer)

I haven't edited video in awhile.  While working on a new project I've run into a bunch of what I suppose are well known issues in Premiere Pro CC 2014.  It seems Adobe has know about these issues for some time, but that for some reason, nothing is being done about them.  Here is my most recent experience with editing a video using PP:
    1. Found that color correction tools in Premiere Pro for setting White Balance Suck for folks who don't edit video 8 hours a day.
Searched on web to find solution find that Adobe has no fix but random humans have found hack solution: White Balance in Premiere Pro CC on Vimeo
The dude shows you how to use the Cyroce Color Neutralizer plugin from After Effects - but sure enough the current version of the plugin that ships with AE CC 2014 doesn't work with premiere any more so you have to download the old version from dude's website here:  http://www.sternfx.com/tutorials/136
    Thanks to the DUDE!
    2. Found out that adding an Adjustment layer can cause flickering in footage.
Searched on web to find solution find that Adobe has no fix but random humans have found hack solution: PP CC 2014 - adjustment layers flickering problem : Adobe Premiere Pro  AND  Re: image flickering from adjustment layer
Added mask to control flickering.  More specifically, I turned each effect in the adjustment layer on and off until I found the particular effect that was causing the flickering.  Then I created a mask in that effect which covered the entire frame.  Mystically the flickering disappeared.  Learned that if you make any changes to adjustment layer effects, flickering will return and you have to delete/recreate the mask once again. Ridiculous.
    3. Thought all was good and that I could now peacefully continue to finish my project.  I was wrong.  Found that adding sharpening in adjustment layer causes a small border to form around the entire frame.  The pixels seem faded or translucent or something.
Searched on web to find solution find that Adobe has no fix but random humans have found hack solution:  Sharpening bug Premiere Pro - - Fourmedia
So now I've learned that the sharpening effect needs to go on it's own adjustment layer.  Awesome.
Flickering returns because I made a change to adjustment layer 1.  Re-mask.  Sweet.
That's it.  Pretty sure this post will help folks out, but man I am going to run out and give another NLE a shot.  None of these operations should be this difficult.  Makes me wonder if Adobe even attempts to use their own programs.  I don't see how anyone could possibly let a huge tool like Premiere Pro suffer from these issues -- and for so long a period of time.  Absolutely ridiculous.  Adobe truly seems to be asleep at the wheel.  This is some amateur crap here.

Thanks for this post. It would be cool (since Adobe doesn't seem to use their products) if there were more posts like this that I could read before I upgrade. I'm having the flickering w adjustment layer problem you mentioned in #2 - and this post is over month old! Aghh
