Huge delays in iCloud Sync

The concrete problem: I made a presentation with Keynote saved it at work in iCloud. This was friday 6 march at 5 pm. On sunday 8 march, 3pm I decide to check this presentation on my laptop. This showed only an older version, dated 2 march. I decided to wait. Meanwhile I checked iCloud on the web. Here I saw the recent 6 march version. In waited some more time. I checked at 3:30 and 3:45 and 4 pm, and still no recent version on my laptop. Finally I checked again at 4:17, and now FINALLY the recent version had appeared. So it took more than an hour before it appeared.
Imagine you depend on this for a presentation....
This is not the first time I have noticed this. I have seen delays of 20 minutes, even two hours.
This has nothing to do with internet speed. At home I have a fairly low download speed of 8Mb per second. The presentation was 8 MB, and downloads in a matter of seconds. I have seen such delays also at work, where we have very fast internet.
I have never noticed anything like this with dropbox, google drive or OneDrive.
This is an total disgrace. I have once been a paying member of .mac and mobile me. I know that Apple is totally incompetent with anything internet-related. But in a decade they must have learned something?

Download the free app My Contacts Backup. Go to Settings>iCloud, turn Contacts to Off, when prompted choose Delete from My iPhone. Check the contacts on your phone. If you have any left on your phone, launch My Contacts Backup, tap the gear shaped icon on the bottom right, scroll to the bottom and tap Remove All Contacts. When finished, go back to Settings>iCloud and turn Contacts back to On to sync the unduplicated contacts back to your phone from iCloud.
Also, be sure you aren't trying to sync your contacts with both iCloud and iTunes or you will get duplicates.

ICloud Sync Service only uses 3G connection?

Hi everybody, I recently had a problem with the 3G connection of my iPad 2.
The connection suddenly stopped working, and I found out it was due to the SIM card credit gone to zero. I investigated a bit and found (thanks to a traffic monitoring app) that the iCloud Sync Service frequently connects using the 3G connection, therefore consuming the data traffic credit.
This happens even if the iPad is under wireless coverage.
Do you know why this Sync Services seems to only use the 3G connection? Is there any way to make it work via wifi when such a connection is available?

when icloud was initially created, sync only worked over wi fi. Reason - back then it was hard for cellular to keep secure connection long enough to authenticate to server and stay connected with secure link for about 1to 2 minutes, Icloud default sync time is not immediate, and the delay is very helpful sometimes( hopefully you will never find out why). Anyway's, it has been a while since and now my cellular is faster then my isp at home. So icloud works. In my case when connected to wi fi or cellular (with exception of back up, photostream). Why you device prefers cellular we can only guess, but just for that purpose I turn off my cellular data as soon as connected to wi fi. My plan is too small. Wifi is practically unlimited. By the way actual icloud sync is transfer of very small files. your contact, calendars and reminders all together may all fit in one megabyte a month.

ICloud syncs my Reminders to Tasks in Outlook, but they do not show up on the To-Do List

When I make new tasks in the Reminders App on my new iPhone 4S, I notice that iCloud syncs it to Outlook in a new "iCloud Tasks" file separate from the original Outlook Data File. The tasks in the "iCloud Tasks" do not appear on the To-Do bar on the bottom right. Anyone know how to configure this to display correctly?

Although I don't blame anyone else but myself since I installed iCloud on Windows, my dependence on the To-Do Bar list in Windows Outlook for a quick view of upcoming appointments over several weeks became apparent yesterday when I missed a job interview that I thought was today.
Since iCloud sends reminders a few minutes before events and it is difficult to depend on the small calendar boxes in month view for upcoming appointments, I find I have fallen back to depending on memory alone since installing iCloud. I thought I had a good memory until this disaster.
For those of us required to use Windows Outlook, and grown dependent on the convenient To-Do Bar list on the right hand side for our upcoming appointments, this loss of the list after installing iCloud can result in disastrous consequences
Although I have appreciated the instantaneous sync across all my devices using iCloud, the inability to easily see the appointments well ahead of time makes it useless to me. I'm afraid I will have to reinstall Office to hopefully get rid of iCloud in Outlook. Hopefully the Outlook.pst file will be clean when Outlook without iCloud opens it.
I continued using iCloud with the hope this problem would soon be corrected, but now it's too late.

You need to set up a separate iCloud account for each person that does not want to share their iCloud data. If you share an iCloud account with someone, any data you both sync with the shared account is merged, and you end up with each other's data on your device(s). Yes, I was referring to the iTunes ID not needing to be the same as the ID used for iCloud. In order to set up an Apple ID your children will need to have a valid email address that can be verified by Apple. Apple requires this so they have a way of contacting the owner if there is a problem with the account, such as when you may need to reset the password on the account. When you set up the ID, Apple will send a verification email to this email account and you will need to click on the verificating link in the email to complete the process. If they don't currently have an email account you can just set one up with gmail or another free email hosting service. They don't have to use the account but you will need it to set up the ID.

we do what your doing... we use the same ID for "Icloud".
We do NOT use the same ID for: Face time and Imessage

My Mac has a Different Apple ID to my (ex mobileme) iPhone - how do i get them to iCloud sync?

I have just moved my mobileme account to iCloud, and attempted to synchronise my iPhone and Mac - but now both are pointing at different Apple IDs !!! HELP.
Two Apple IDs?
I have long used one Apple Id for iTunes and my App Store purchases, whereas my MobileMe account handled all the synching of data, contacts, calendar etc between my Mac and Phone. I had no idea at all that my MobileMe account was also an Apple ID whenever this was set up... indeed even in System Preferences MobileMe had a separate account login to iTunes or the App Store.
MobileMe to iCloud forced my phone to use my MobileMe account instead of my Apple ID account.
While I have used the same Apple ID used for purchasing across both devices... I didn't get a chance to set up my iPhone with the same AppleId as my mac...the process just decided to use my mobile me account.
MobileMe => iCloud has permanently set up my devices with DIFFERENT Apple Ids. No way to change Apple IDs
So the MobileMe to iCloud sync process has landed my iPhone with my MobileMe account as an Apple ID, whereas my Mac is on my iTunes (payments) Apple ID. It seems there's no way to change the Apple ID on any device - the latest OS updates have removed that possibility.
So iCloud doesnt work at all....!!!
Basically iCloud is syncing absolutely none of my data between my devices... one device points at one account (ex MobileMe) while the other points at my (payments/iTunes) account. I can't change either of them to point at the same one.
And to top it all, one of the iCloud accounts isn't even syncing?
So now what iCloud?

the key to happiness is separating the 'itunes' id from the 'everythign else' id.
the 'everything else' id should be (maybe must be) an @me email; make a new one if necessary. it's only used for iCloud.
LEAVE your iTunes id as-was; you do not want to add yet anohter id to your purchases. I even un-did any and all of my old iTunes DRM purchases by burning songs to virtual CDs and ripping back into iTunes for my older multpiple apple ids from the past.
when setting up an iPhone iPad or even mac lion you need to use the @me address, however when DONE setting up initial set-up you must LOG OUT in settings -> store and from iTunes and sign back in with the iTunes user id.
once your iCloud user is the new @me free username (you do not have to EVER use it for email so fret not that it's a 'new email address). you can get all your devices syncing happily.
FYI; you can get ios4 and snow-leopard (probably even leopard) syncing happily through iCloud as well; push may not work, have to hit 'refresh' but i have to do that on my lion mac anyhow so big deal

Is there any way to get iCloud sync (iPhone + 2 Macs) without wi-fi?

We have two Macs (MacBook Pro, iMac) and one iPhone 4; OSs up-to-date (Lion, iOS5). Our only routine access to the internet is via the mobile phone 3G network for the iPhone, and via a 3G USB stick/dongle for the Macs, also using the mobile phone network. We do NOT have access to the internet via a local wi-fi link to a router (whether ADSL or cable). This is in Melbourne, Australia, btw.
Question: is there any way at all that we can get syncing of contacts and calendars for all three devices? - preferably automatic, ideally real-time whenever a device could see the internet. With syncing set, there seem to be some random updates (and duplication) between devices, but it seems that normally syncing is enabled only when the device sees the internet via a local wi-fi link to a router, and that's what we don't have. (We can't trundle the iMac to an internet cafe either!)
Understood that a local sync would be possible via iTunes for one of the two computers and the iPhone, provided they could see each other wirelessly - but there's a second computer...
E-mail no problem; we use IMAP.

I thought I had established by searching forums that iCloud sync routinely requires wi-fi. I can see from Apple documentation that backup does; and that Documents and Data (in iOS) has a switch to permit/deny syncing using a cellular network. What I have not found is a one-stop-shop on the Apple site that says which iCloud facilities are supposed to work with cellular/3G networks and which not. Can you point us to such a list?
Regarding our own problem: the missing link appears to be the download of new entries from the cloud to either of the Macs, the Mac being connected to the internet via 3G. For example a new calendar appointment entered on the Mac duly appears on the iPhone; but a new appointment entered on the iPhone fails to appear on the Mac. (If it is re-entered on the Mac, it gets duplicated on the iPhone.) Checking the iCloud website show that a new iPhone appointment is getting as far as the cloud; but apparently no further.
I think you'll agree that this makes iCloud calendar syncing next to useless.
This may not (as you imply) be caused by the use of the 3G connection. However in the two households in our family we have one with wi-fi and essentially the same setup, except that the iPhone is a 3GS. In the wi-fi setup, a new appointment entered on the iPhone calendar promptly shows up on a Mac.
If the sync problem has nothing to do with the mode of internet connection, how might it be cured?

Ical bug: updates to outlook events with iCloud sync do not work

I have a bug that needs to be submitted to Apple Developers. I am not sure that this is the correct forum, but here goes.
I have a calendar that syncs from my Mac to iCloud. If I get a calendar invite from someone using outlook, everything works fine. I accept the invite and it is added to ical (6) and syncs with the iCloud calendar.
Now if I get an update to the invite - especially a change of time, the local version on my mac updates to the changed event. Up to now everything is fine, but as soon as iCal syncs with iCloud, the iCloud server thinks that I am trying to change an event that someone else is the organiser of. It then disallows the update. This in turn pops an error up on my mac - 'The server responded: “403” to operation CalDAVWriteEntityQueueableOperation'.
I have looked for workarounds/fixes but believe that none exist and that this is a core bug with iCal/iCloud sync and the way it tries to prevent updates to meetings organised by another party.

maybe I can suggest to you a way to circumvent the problem.
Why are you keeping a local Calendar copy under "my Mac"?
I do have my calendar shared through iCloud between my Mac Mountain Lion, the iPhone and the iPad (both alread IOS7) but don't need to keep any local copy of it in neither device. Anyway I'm able to see the calendar on each device even if I'm offline.
That's way I never had the problem you mentioned.
Not sure if this would work for you as well.

I was having some issues with icloud syncing with outlook 2013 on my windows 8 PC, so i uninstalled it and re-installed.   Ever since then, i have not been able to even get icloud for windows set up. I keep getting an error in the final stage of the setup after i tick the box on outlook calendar, contacts and tasks in the control panel. The error i get is: "Your setup couldn't be started because the iCloud server stopped responding." When I hit the report button, the following eror comes up in the email: Error: 0x80004005: HTTP Error 503.
have uninstalled, restarted, downloaded a fresh version and re-installed then restarted again but this didn't work.
Any new ideas?

You will notice that Outlook 2013 does not appear in any of that. Which means it is not supported. Which means it cannot be expected to function.

How to disable iCloud sync for a single app/game

Since I bought the infinity blade game for it, I have a problem. Normally, both my sons play games one on my iphone and the other on the ipad, Now, we found the game syncing without us telling it to over iCloud and both the devices behave as if the game continues from the previous player on the last played device.
Going through all the menus in icloud settings, there does not seem to be an easy way of disabling the game from syncing apart from disable all apps from syncing meaning all my Pages and Numbers documents wont sync.
I did try the game and the game forums itself, which does not have any way to disable icloud sync.
Both devices run the latest iOS and game updates. Can anyone help please.

When restoring from the backup, whatever is included with the backup from two days ago should be restored which includes photos/videos in the Camera Roll at the time of the backup along with all other data included with the backup at the time of the backup two days ago.

My iPhone doesn't appear in iTunes after setting up iCloud syncing

I have an iPhone4 and have updated to ios 5 and have a macbook pro running Lion and have updated that and iTunes. Everything was goig OK but after setting up iCloud syncing I find if I want to sync by usb my iPhone doesn't appear in the devices. I just noticed that my icloud sync is no longer working. Apps like 1Password, Drafts, Reminder, Calendars, Fantastical used to sync between my IPAD Air and iphone 6 but they are not syncing now.
What are some of the possible issues and can anyone suggest remedy?

Managed to solve the issues by turning off icloud drive. Re-started iphone. After iphone turned on, turn on icloud drive again. All the apps started to sync again.

Further to the above I have now discovered that I have two iCloud accounts in my notes so there are two icloud folders !!
If I delete one, then all the notes are deleted from the other one. If I move all the notes from one into the other then the empty one is populated with two of everything !!
Dont want to uncheck Notes in iCloud as there is a drop down box that advises that all notes will be removed from my Mac if I take that action

Thanks for that, that was my first suggestion but he wants to not email either. His problem is he used his old nokia to do it and it was fine, now anything other than that he thinks is too much hassle.
