Huge disappointment iOS4.3 and iPod software

The use case of many broad music lovers is to first select the genre, then the artist, and then the CD, because you're in the mood for Classic, or Jazz, or Pop or whatever sub genre.
Like all previous iOS releases, the iPad seems to have a completely different "iTunes/iPod" interface than all other Apple devices (iPod, iPhone, iTunes, and even the Remote application on the iPad). The iPad is the only device that lists all songs when selecting a genre, instead of first listing the artist and so on. This means that for instance my classic string quartets are listed as:
I. Allegro
II. Vivace
III. Andante
IV. Presto
I. Vivace
II. Presto
III. Andante
IV. Presto
I. Allegro
II. Vivace
III. Andante
Very very useful... Kind of forcing to re-tag my 150GB music library because Apple does not consistently propagates its own user interface... I pressed the feedback button multiple times, but this button has never been ever of any use to me before.
Any suggestions for other music players on the iPad?

If you are a bit of a techie, you could try setting up your iTunes to stream audio via some form of internet radio or streaming app and have it playback in safari while you use the iTunes remote app to select and control playback. I use nicecast: http://www.rogueamoeba.com/nicecast/ and it is pretty good. It has about a 10second delay between control and playback change on my local network, if you use a VPN or something that might increase.

  • Upgrading to latest itunes and ipod software kills ipod

Today my son has upgraded his itunes (on XP laptop) and ipod software to the latest versions. He has a 120 GB iPod classic and we've all been using ipods/itunes for many years. Since installing the updates he has been unable to synch his ipod. When we plug the ipod into the laptop it comes back with the error message "The ipod 'name' cannot be synched. The file or directory is corrupted and unreadable". I have then tried to follow all of the trouble-shooting advice on the Apple website including the 5 Rs. The first 4 didn't fix the problem and when I got to no 5 (RESTORE) this wouldn't work either. The restore software downloaded from the site but after looking like it was going to proceed, iTunes returned another error message "<sons name> iPod cannot be restored because it contains files that are in use by another application". I checked that it wasn't trying to synch at the same time as restoring and could see no obvious reason why the restore wouldn't work. I am now at a complete loss as to what to do next. Can anyone help? I am surprised that there is nowhere on the Apple support site where you can find a list of all error messages and what you should do in response. Well not one that I could find anyway! Hope someone out there can shed some light.

Try putting the iPod in disk mode before connecting it.
    1. Reset the iPod by pressing and holding the Menu and Select buttons simultaneously until it reboots.
    2. Press and hold the Select and Play/Pause buttons simultaneously for several seconds until the display changes. I believe it will say something like "Okay to disconnect." Then connect the iPod to your computer.

  • Problems with Downloading iTunes and iPod software to my computer

Just got my iPod...I continue to get the following error message when trying to download iTunes and iPod software to my computer: "Error 1406, Could not write value InstallDir to key \Software\Apple Computer, Inc.\iPod\AppPaths. Verify that you have sufficient access to that key"
    Can anyone shed some light?
    Thanks and Happy New Year!

This is helpful...thank you. I have learned that I need to acquire administrative privileges in order to install the software, as I am trying to install the software on my company's laptop (don't have a computer at home). Do you know of a way around this?

      Mac OS 8.6 or Earlier

The software you downloaded is for Mac OS X; to get the Mac OS 9 version of the software, download the file for your language from the following pages (iPod, iTunes). The Mac OS 9 iPod software only works for first and second generation iPods, and requires 9.21 to run. Mac OS 9's iTunes will only sync first and second generation iPods, as well as third generation iPods which are running version 2.0x of the firmware.

  • Updated iTunes and iPod software  iPod not showing up under devices in iTunes

Updated software since computer said there were updates.  Now I'm having trouble with iPod not showing up under devices.  Have gone through all the steps under troubleshooting.  Nothing helped.  Had this same problem periodically in the past, as well.  Itunes also says I have an app I reinstalled today due to it not working properly, and it won't synch with iPod.  (earlier today, iPod was showing up and synching properly, but this app wasn't getting downloaded to the iPod.  Just shows up in iTunes.  HAve tried restarting computer, iTunes and iPod, but no luck.

Thank you but I have tried this and it still does not show up.  I even tried to delete itunes and reload it but the computer says that it is not able to delete itunes.

  • Two Problems: iTunes 7 Installation and Ipod Software Update 1.2

    1. The first problem is the installation process. After executing the installation file, the process simply freezes at "Registering Modules". Here's a screenshot(courtesy of allanpat): http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v282/allanpat/itunes_freeze.gif
After numerous uninstallations and reinstallations...same problem occurs. However, i decided to press "Ctrlaltdelete" one time when the freeze occured and I ended the installation process at the freeze. Strangely, I found that most of itunes installed. So I tried opening itunes. A startup error pops up: http://i110.photobucket.com/albums/n82/p0llux/error2.gif
After pressing "OK", itunes then starts up normally and runs normally. o.O Then i plugged in my 30gb video ipod, which brings us to my second problem.
    2. I'm told to download and install the Ipod software 1.2, which i did. When it attempted to install this error pops up: http://i110.photobucket.com/albums/n82/p0llux/error.gif
Although iTunes runs fine...i want to be rid of Startup error and get the ipod update to work. i've never had this many problems with iTunes before. what's going on?
    Solutions, anyone?

Same problem here. It may have to do with conflicting software that we have running at start up. Now I'm not sure whether it is, but I'm willing to try anything to update my iPod with the new songs I downloaded.

  • IOS4 and iPod Touch 1g

I've been reading about iOS4 and I see that it is not available for the iPod touch 1g. Does this mean that Apple will not be releasing anymore OS updates for the 1g?

I find this ridiculous, since I've had the 1g for less than 2 years. I bought my computer in August 2008 and got the 32GB 1g at a discounted $300. A few weeks later, they released the 2G and the 32GB was only $299, without a discount. Apple basically ripped me off. Had I known there was going to be a newer model available for the same price I was paying I would've just waited. Now they expect me to buy a new one when this one is less than 2 years old.

  • Should iTunes version and iPod software version be the same?

My iTunes is version 7.6, but my iPod software is version 1.1
    Should they be the same?

No, they are not the same. If you have a 1st Generation Shuffle you should have firmware 1.1.5. If you have a 2nd Generation Shuffle it would be 1.0.3.

  • IOS4 and iPod Touch 3rd Generation 8GB

So since the two coolest features definitely won't work for this, those being multitasking and custom backgrounds, then what will? What exactly will be different after this upgrade?

    Check the site http://www.apple.com/ipodtouch/ios4-software-update.html

  • Problems After Upgrading iTunes and iPod software

My Goddaughter recently updated her iTunes to the newest version and her iPod to OS6. Now when she open iTunes, the top tool bar that used to have "File, Edit, View, ....tools., etc., is now blank. Is that supposed to happen or is this a new feature of iTunes 10, so now we would find those capabilities in another location? We are lost, and have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the software several times just to have the same end result. Also when she syncs her iPod to iTunes, it connects but the window that opens has absolutely no text whatsoever.

You might try rebooting your computer. Select Shutdown and let the computer turn off. Then start it up again and see if the problem is corrected.

  • IPod touch wheel and iPod software version 1.5

    Hi,
I have a problem with my iPod touch wheel (20 GB).
I have purchased some music on the iTMS this days, but i was unable to transfer it to my Ipod, which software version was 1.4.
So, I decide to restore the iPod with the latest version for this model, i.e. 1.5, and to upload all the songs, using the automatically update option.
I did it, but after uploading the music, all the playlists are empty (menu "playlists", "artists", etc...). I can't see any songs although the indication of size is correct.
But, everything seems normal when I access the iPod by iTunes (version 5) : I can see and play all the playlists on the iPod, when I have deactivate the automatically update.
So, I restore again the iPod, and transfer manually some playlists. I was able to browse them on the iPod, and listen to them.
    I'm using iTunes 5, on Mac OS X 10.4.2.
Has anyone had the same problem ?

    Maybe:
Restore loop (being prompted to restore again after a restore successfully completes)
Troubleshoot your USB connection. If the issue persists, out-of-date or incorrectly configured third-party security software may be causing this issue. Please follow Troubleshooting security software issues. .

  • I have an Ipod Classic, one day he appears without music, now that i want to sync with my itunes an error occur. I download all the new itunes version and ipod software but again error. How do I make it work?

My ipod classic, have these problem:
One day I find out that all the music was completely gone, I always charged the ipod on Ihome.
So, I connect the ipod to my computer to sync the music, but mi computer recognize the ipod as a memory device. so delete itunes from my computer, following some support guides that i found in the mac support web. Again, it didnt work. The itunes doesnt detect it.
then I try to sync on a macbook, then it told it was corrupted i should restore th ipod, i try it but this could not be done... cause an error occur.
How I can restore my ipod...

Does both your Windows and Macbook iTunes have the same library of songs?
if it  does then, much easier to proceed, else try to load the Macbook with the same library as Windows.
Note that only one of the Macbook USB port is good for iPod Classic, the other is too slow and may cause timeout, and I would suggest disconnect all other USB devices, while you Restore or Sync the iPod Classic.
Connect the iPod to the Mac, (if iTunes launch, please close it back.)
Use Disk Utility -> select the iPod Device->First Aid->Repair (use option FAT32)
After the Repair complete, eject the iPod.
    Connect back to the Mac
When iTunes launch, Restore the iPod when Prompted, (use FAT32)
    Sync your library.
    Good Luck!

  • Win 2000:  old versions of ipod and itunes software

Is it safe to delete all the old versions of itunes and ipod software that remain after new versions are loaded in. I would uninstall using win uninstaller.

    hi Samuel!
usually, previous versions of itunes and quicktime are removed by installations of higher versions of the software. (the earlier versions of ipod updaters remain installed though.)

  • Help: Windows freezes and iPod empty

Last night (UK) I posted a message considering the problem that My Computer, iTunes and iPod Updater don't recognise my iPod ANYMORE (so it did before).
Now, even worse, when I plug in my iPod Windows XP freezes. My iPod cannot be properly disconnected. When I do so, the iPod gets stuck on "don't disconnect." It takes a long time, before the iPod recognises it's not longer connected to the computer and it loads Menu. However, every file on it is gone (and I cant reload or update it, since my PCI doesnt recognised it anymore).
Strangely, my iPod Info says that there is just about 20 gig of free space in it. Although there are no files on it anymore.
So what is failing: my computer or my iPod???
    Any help welcome!

Since the iPod seems to be recognised on other comps then it does sould as if the problem is with the comp rather than the iPod itself.
Make sure the iPod is fully charged before you start.
Try creating a new user account on the comp which won't recognise the iPod and use that account.
Go through the apple 5R's, be sure to uninstall iTunes and the iPod software with the iPod disconnected from the comp and when you reinstall do so with the iPod disconnected and only connect the iPod when the software prompts you to do so or after the install has completed. You might like to reboot the PC after you've uninstalled the iTunes and iPod software and reboot again after you've completed the reinstall. Follow apple's instructions to the letter.
If you still don't get it to work you will need to consider reinstalling XP and starting over with a clean install.
    Hope that helps.

  • Unable to update or reinstall iTunes or iPod software

I hope someone very knowledgable can help me with my dilema-
it appears that the driver for my iPod has become corrupted,
since all my songs no longer will display on it. I've attempted to
update and reinstall both the iTunes and iPod software, but each time
results in "1607: Unable to install the InstallShield Scripting Runtime."
I went to InstallShield's site and the Microsoft knowledgebase,
but nothing attempted so far seems to correct the problem(s).

The files that won't transfer are designated as AAC audio files; they have a bitrate of 128kbps w/ a samplerate of 44,100 KHz. I have other AAC as well as MPEG audio files in both the iTunes library and on the iPod that transferred and play w/o any problem. Have you or anyone else ever encountered while transferring songs to their iPod the message "Some songs in the iTunes library were not copied to the iPod because they cannot be played on this iPod." ????
