Huge error

I'm not quite sure how to explain this, but about 15 minutes ago while I was working, my Mac randomly shut down. I booted it back up and logged in as usual, but I noticed that Finder wasn't running. I tried opening it via the dock icon, only to receive the error "*The application Finder.app can't be opened.* -10810" I rebooted once more hoping that this was just a minor glitch, but it happened again. Now my menubar doesn't show up, Finder won't open, and none of my apps want to open.
I'm at work right now and have no access to my Snow Leopard disc, is there anything else I can do to try and fix this?
Thanks.

SL does not erase the hard drive during the reinstall. You won't lose anything unless you erase the drive first. However, that doesn't mean you shouldn't make a backup. And you should do this first:
Repairing the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your SL Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Installer menu (Utilities menu for Tiger and Leopard.) After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive. If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer. Now restart normally.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior and/or Tech Tool Pro to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.

  • Zenwsimp.log is huge, errors repeating many times per second

    Newly installed NW 5.1 SP6 server running ZFD 4.01 ir5 - I know, it's all
old stuff, but it's the same as 6 or 8 other production servers we haven't
had time to upgrade yet, and we didn't expect a new one would cause problems.
After about a month of well-behaved operation, the server started to
routinely hit 90%+ utilization every couple of days...
Finally caught it red-handed - was the jave workstation import process
thread owned 90% of all the systems threads. Killed that process, and the
    system settled right down.
The TID's I've found say the error that is filling up the log, namely
"Could not remove container attribute value.", is quote> innocuous <quote.
Its the only error I've found in the huge log file so far, it is anything
but innocuous. Repeating over and over 20 to 30 times per second.
The zenwsimp.log file is nearly 1 GIG in size. The server was basically
ignoring everything trying to update the giant log file.
The tids also said to check the log for a workstation sending corrupt
inventory information about the time the problem occurs. Just trying to
read the log at the 1 gig file size is proving to be a challenge by itself.
Typing it to the screen from a dos prompt is the only way I've been able
to open it so far, at least with my 1GIG of RAM laptop system. Notepad and
Write either error out or croak trying to load the log data. Typing it to
the screen is the only way I've got to look at it, and after 15 minutes,
it's still running, repeating nothing but that error message.
I tweaked the startup ncf files to prevent the workstation import function
from even loading until a solution can be found, rebooted the server, and
all seems to be behaving since then. But after scouring the support site,
I haven't seen anything to give me any other clues about what to do.
Sure would appreciate some pointers or suggestions.

delete the file... start import again wait for some errors.. unload
    import...
why are your wks connecting to that server?

  • Huge errors.log daemons.log and everything.log [SOLVED]

Ok people i have i big problem since my last update, wich happened yesterday.
errors.log, daemons.log and everything.log are extremly huge over 1.3G per file.
I tried this to make them smaller with this:
    >errors.log
    >daemons.log
    >everything.log
and this helps for about 5 mins, but after that 5 mins, those three files are growing large again.
logrotate is in my /etc/cron.daily. Should i put it in /etc/cron.hourly. Is this gonna help me with my problem or is it something else that causes it.
This is the message that is written over and over in errors.log:
Jul  6 13:06:44 myhost famd[2151]: fd 4 message length 1347375956 bytes exceeds max of 4136.
    This one is from daemon.log:
Jul  6 13:08:09 myhost famd[2151]: fd 4 message length 1347375956 bytes exceeds max of 4136.
And this one is fron everything.log:
Jul  6 13:09:03 myhost famd[2151]: fd 4 message length 1347375956 bytes exceeds max of 4136.
As you can see this is the same message in all three files.

  • Help! I am making an iPhoto book and all of a sudden it will not open and I get a huge error message which is supposedly sent to Apple.  How do I access that site????

    Mac osX 10.6.8
    iBook - old version
can not access Safari - going through Chrome
All of a sudden my IBook would not open (100 pages and almost finished)
Error message sent to Apple - how do I access them??????
Thank you for any help you can give me
    <Email Edited by Host>

Do you mean, you have been creating a Photo Book in iPhoto? Or an iBook in iBook Author?
If you are asking about a photo book in iPhoto, what was the last you did in iPhoto, before the crash happened?  Did you add a page with a map?
Then you may have a problem with a bug, where adding a route to a map may render the book unreadable.  In that case the best option is to restore the iPhoto library from the last backup you made, before you added the map to the book.
It is not possible to open the book and to delete the unreadable page. You can only delete the book and start over, if this bug is the reason for the crashes. See for example this link:  Getting rid of problem photo book

  • HUGE Error Message When Syncing IPod!!!

alright well first of all i have the new nano 4G ipod. Recently i added a TON of new songs, and apparantly i went over the size limit that my ipod could hold. In other words I had more songs on my itunes library than could fit into my ipod. I found this out when I tried to sync my ipod after adding all of these new songs. This is the error message I got: "ipod cannot be synced because all of the playlists selected for syncing no longer exist"
Now it gave me a temporary playlist before but i accidentally deleted so now I get this message. I really really really need help is there anything at all i can do I'm seriously going to die if this doesn't work soon =[

You get this problem when the option 'Sync Music - Selected playlists' is being used to sync your iPod and then the playlist it has been updating from is deleted. Most people use this setting when the iPod is smaller than the iTunes library. If your library is larger than the capacity of your iPod, iTunes by default makes a new playlist called something along the lines of "Owner's iPod". If you for any reason delete it, you will not be able to sync your iPod.
Open iTunes and create a playlist to update your iPod from, call it -iPod to make it the first playlist in Sources. You can make this a normal playlist and drag whatever you want to it or you can make it a random Smart playlist. If you are making a smart playlist limit it to just less than the size of your iPod (for example 3700MB for a 4G iPod Nano). Now connect your iPod and when it appears in the Source list click on the iPod icon to bring up the preference tabs in the main pane. Go to the Music tab and choose Sync Music and the Selected playlists radio button. Choose the playlist you just made from the selection and click Apply. You can also sync from any existing playlists by choosing the same setting, you just need to make sure that the size of the playlists don't exceed the capacity of your iPod:
iTunes: Creating playlists of your favorite songs
How to create a Smart Playlist with iTunes
To make a random playlist go to File>New Smart Playlist.
    Uncheck "Match the following rule"
Check "Limit to" put "3700" in the number box, choose "MB" from the first list box, choose "Random" from the next list box. Check "Live Updating"
When you want to change the selection in the playlist just delete everything in it and it will add a new selection

  • How can I correct huge error by VZW rep at store?

On Feb. 11, the day the iPhone launched for Verizon, I headed to the Apple store to pick mine up. Because my girlfriend has a contract with Verizon, we decided it would be better for us to get a family plan. In any case, while we were at the Apple store, the person who set me up with the phone there said that he would sign me up for a basic plan for the individual line and to just go to the Verizon store to combine the lines and put them into a family plan.
My girlfriend and I headed over to the store and told the rep there what our plans were. We signed up for the Talk and Text family plan as well as the unlimited data package. When we finished, the rep there said we were all set and I could begin using the phone immediately.
When we received the bill for the first month's use, it was for about $800 (that's not a typo). When we called to inquire about the charges, they said that the plan didn't take effect until Feb. 21 and that the difference in the bill were all due to text messages. I'm unable to wrap my head around that because I had the minutes, had the data but didn't have any text messaging? It doesn't make sense. We called up customer service and they said that they could only give us a 50% refund and that if we went back to the store in which we signed up for this contract, they'd be able to refund us.
So, we went straight back to the Verizon retailer that signed us up and the manager there couldn't understand what happened and explained that he would forward it to his District Manager. He said that we currently had the plan that we originally wanted (which was the talk and text). In the meantime, he explained, we would just have to pay what we would have owed on a regular bill plus any applicable taxes and leave the difference until he gets it credited.
I have been in touch with the manager for the last three weeks regarding this issue and he has not yet had it resolved. He said that his manager could only get 50% because that's the max refund and he is still trying to get the other 50%. The balance on our bill still has the discrepancy as part of the past due balance. I already covered an additional $100 in taxes because of the issue. I'm not planning on paying them the absurd balance, or even half of that but at the same time, don't want my service cut off.
Has anybody ever been in a similar situation? Or does anyone have any experience in resolving a similar issue? Any help would be much appreciated.

Why don't you have the manager remark your account that it was a store error. That way when you call up to customer service, they have proof that a rep had made a mistake and will then have to honor 100% credit. Just explain that your having difficulties getting the store to honor the full credit.

  • Itunes quitting seconds after startup, huge error message

My audio had been crackling in and out with Itunes for a few weeks, even default noises didn't work for a time.
In the last 3 days, Itunes has been quitting seconds after I start it. I think it's when it tries to access the music store. I can post an error log if anyone will find it helpful.
Reinstallation did not remedy the problem.
    I have Itunes 6.0.4 on OSX 10.3.9
I miss my music... thank you in advance to anyone who has suggestions or insight.

Hello & Welcome to Apple Discussions,
I can post an error log if anyone will find it helpful.
Please go ahead & post it, most recent you can find more info the better. Your Home folder/~Library/ Logs-> Crash Logs most recent one.
Just copy and paste it in to a reply. They can be interesting to see i can't quite read them,( working on it:) I know others surely can. Good luck.

  • IPhone "No Content" bug - A Huge Error

I've enjoyed having my iPhone for years now but I keep getting bitten by this incredibly fatal flaw in the iPod portion of the device. Occasionally, when I sync my iPhone up to my computer and try to listen to the latest podcasts I've or videos that I downloaded and just synced to my iPhone, the iPhone tells me that there is "No Content" on the device, yet when I hook it up to my computer and look at its library through iTunes I can see all the music, video, and podcasts and play them from the device. Whenever I try to access them on the iPhone itself, however, I get the "Nope, there's no content here". THIS HAS HAPPENED ON FOUR (4) SEPARATE OCCASIONS. I was able to resolve the issue twice, once by renaming some incredibly long video filenames to shorter ones, and another time by re-authorizing my computer to my iTunes account (the same computer is authorized twice now). The two latest occasions of this annoying and poorly-handled bug I was unable to recover from without doing a full restore of my iPhone. The most recent incident occurred right after I tried placing only five (5) iTunes U videos onto my iPhone. I tried unsyncing the files and taking them off the phone, but the "No Content" bug still remained.
Does anyone have any idea why this is happening to quite a large number of iPhones? I have a theory that if too much media content is placed on the iPhone, the index of the file system somehow gets corrupted on the iPhone and it can no longer recognize the content that is on the device. I'm basing this off of previous experience with when I synced a television series with incredibly long filenames and received the "No Content" bug and most recently with the iTunes U videos (which had fairly long filenames themselves).
It seems like quite the engineering flaw if the iPhone is touted as a multimedia device with so much storage if you can't use most of the storage to actually go towards the use of media.
Does anyone know how to remedy this "No Content" bug WITHOUT having to do a full restore of the iPhone? I shouldn't have to restore my phone every time I want to put new videos on it.

I will be annoyed but I wouldn't put on my acting outfit and run around the plane like a Prima Donna claiming the world is at an end for certain.
People generally get help more easily when their posts are short and to the point like yours. Longer rambling, hand wringing posts such as the OP tend to put the helpers off.
And "helpers" like yourself tend to put off those seeking help by making condescending remarks, insulting them by calling them names, and coming off as an arrogant, sarcastic jerk. The "rambling" post was to help give the different situations in which I encountered the same problem, hoping it would somehow help diagnose the root issue (much like describing symptoms to an illness) and help those that have a similar issue in the future.
"incredibly fatal flaw" - its a minor bug on a few machines and hardly the end of life as we know it ?
"Minor bug" and "incredibly fatal flaw" are subjective to the person's viewpoint. An error in some spreadsheet program that adds several cells together incorrectly can be seen as a minor bug to someone who doesn't use spreadsheets all that often, but can be viewed as a "fatal flaw" to an accountant that works with numbers every day.
Occasionally, when I sync my iPhone up to my computer
So its not doing it all the time then ?
No, it is not all the time because I don't sync videos to my iPhone all the time. Audio content is the primary thing that I change out on my iPhone on a regular basis and this "No Content" issue only presents itself when I either add movies or TV shows.
THIS HAS HAPPENED ON FOUR (4) SEPARATE OCCASIONS.
So thats the sum total of times in how many years you have had it ?
I used the collective "my iPhone" in my OP when stating that I enjoyed it for many years. I've had both the iPhone 2G and 3G without this issue ever coming up, but with the 3GS I've had this issue come up 4 times. That's 4 times in less than a year. Note that these 4 times are for the total times in which a simple re-sync could not resolve the issue, otherwise the "No Content" bug count would be much higher.
Does anyone have any idea why this is happening to quite a large number of iPhones?
There are ten million or more iPhones and three of you on the thread. That is NOT 'quite a large number of iPhones' no matter how dramatic you try to make it sound.
Just because only three posted in this thread does not mean that there are only three other users that have the problem. Apple's forums aren't the only source for troubleshooting (and with your "help" I'm not surprised more people are not using these forums). Try putting "iphone no content" into Google and I'm sure you'll see many more people like the four in this thread having very similar issues. No matter how much you downplay or how insignificant you try to make it sound does not mean this is an isolated incident.
I have a theory that if too much media content is placed on the iPhone, the index of the file system somehow gets corrupted on the iPhone and it can no longer recognize the content that is on the device.
Wrong - I have a full 32Gig of video, TV, music and have never had a problem like your, and I'd bet millions of others haven't either. You are probably correct though that its a file corruption and the way to solve that is with a Restore.
The reason why I called it a theory is because I have been able to sometimes un-corrupt the file system by unsyncing the video content I put on, which I would think one would not be able to do with a corrupt filesystem. This issue may also be something different such as filenames with excessive periods or very long filenames that could confuse the iPod software.
It seems like quite the engineering flaw if the iPhone is touted as a multimedia device with so much storage if you can't use most of the storage to actually go towards the use of media.
Please stop being a drama queen - extrapolating your issue and suggesting the entire iPhone is flawed is ridiculous. The vast majority of people with iPhones use the device to its capacity without fault. To suggest otherwise is a bit naive.
Your statement has merit, but the constant condescending tone of your post and now resulting to name-calling is a bit childish.
Do a Restore, not a reset and see how much 'Other" memory resides on the machine.
If you genuinely have to do a full Restore (which can take hours) then you probably have faulty iPhone in which case Applecare is your friend.
We actually get to a part where you try to contribute to the conversation, granted we had to scroll down quite a ways to find out your simple answer is "Do a restore or go to Apple." You probably would have saved everyone a lot of time by just writing the one short sentence instead of breaking down my entire post line by line, insulting me, and then giving virtually no help to resolve the problem whatsoever. Now I have probably wasted just as much time responding to your brazen and inconsiderate post.
I do like to help but do get pretty irritated when people overexaggerate their problems and act as if the world is ending.
Welcome to the world of technical support. Everyone expresses their problems in their own way. Not everyone can see their problems your way and break them down into words that are pleasing to you, so you shouldn't expect them to and then get irritated at them for reaching out for help in the only way they know how.
You would probably be better off not helping if this is how you contribute whenever you post a response on these forums. People that get irritated, treat people like excrement, and try to make them feel dumb are not for a support forum or any technical help of any kind. Please do us a favor and stay out of this thread if you're not going to actually help solve the issue or give any kind of helpful information that could lead to a solution.
    Thanks.

You have the MacBookPro6,2—the Edsel of Macs. It may have the logic-board defect that was covered by a recall program that has now ended.
Residents of the EU may be entitled to warranty service for up to six years after purchase.
Make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store, or go to another authorized service provider, to have the machine tested. The routine hardware diagnostics used by service providers do not detect the fault. There is a specific test for this issue that Apple calls "VST" (for "Video Switching Test.") Ask for it. A "Failed" result means that the fault is present.
You may be quoted a price of about $300 (in the U.S.) for a "depot repair," which involves shipping the unit to a central repair facility and takes about two weeks. For that flat fee, anything found wrong with it should be fixed, not just the logic board.
Sometimes the replacement part is also defective, so be prepared for that possibility. If you decide to pay for a new logic board, test thoroughly during the 90-day warranty period on the repair. Some owners have reported that they went through as many as three replacement boards before getting one that worked.
If you don't want to pay for the repair, you may (or may not) be able to stop the panics by disabling automatic graphics switching. To use the discrete graphics processor, you'll need a third-party utility to switch to it manually.
Often the problems start after an OS upgrade. If the upgrade was recent, and you have backups, then you can revert to a previous OS X version.

  • This is a HUGE ERROR. 80 g/b

    http://img182.imageshack.us/img182/31/asdffewoc3.png
It's as if all of my music AND videos were somehow "transformed" to fit in the "Other" category instead of where they're supposed to be. When I tried adding a song, nothing happened--only added the song and that's it.
    How do I fix this?

If there's nothing on the iPod which you want to keep that isn't in another place you can access, click here and follow the instructions.

  • Help! I think I've made a huge error! (songs from ITouch to ITunes)

I've been having trouble transferring songs bought on my ITouch into my Itunes on my computer.
I tried right clicking on 'My Ipod' and 'Transfer Purchases' and going to 'File' and clicking 'Transfer Purchases to My Ipod', but neither did anything. As a last ditch idea I reset my sync settings, and as a consequence have lost all the songs I downloaded on my ITouch. It wasn't many (around thirteen) but I'm left with the sickening realisation that I can't get them back.
Can anybody offer me any sort of hope, or will I have to pay for them all a second time to get them back?

Try uninstalling iTunes from your computer, then re-installing it. Then once loaded back on (it still won't have your songs), click on  the iTunes Store and log in. Then plug in your iPod, then right-click it on the bar on the left side of the screen, then click "Transfer Purchases". It then should sync all of your songs, movies, TV shows, and Apps to your computer.
    Hope this helps.

Any Help will be appreciated. Thank you.

sounds like your deployment isn't right - either your classpath isn't set correctly or you haven't included all the classes necessary in your deployment - or if this was working but now it's not then perhaps you removed something?

  • Error while Editing universe connection to SSO fromusing user/pass

    Hi guys,
I created a universe on top of Bex Query using Universe Designer 4.0 (not information design tool 4.0)...i created a relational connection using SAP client as middleware.
when i use my SAP credentials to connect to BW system the connection works fine i.e.Authentication Mode: "use specified user and password"
But when i use SSO as the authentication mode, a huge error appears
I am unable to copy paste the error here.
    DBD:Error Reading URI Found:.................
Anyone has encountered this problem yet?
    Any Help is highly appreciated.
    Thanks in Advance,
    Sheikh Hassan Ayub

Thank you for the quick reply  Surendra Chikine.
Would you kindly elaborate your solution?
In my case i am logging into Universe Designer using my ID, but for creating the connection i used a "back ground user/pass".
    So according to you:
Delete the SAP or Active Directory (AD) user account that is failing to SSO. ---> delete my user id from CMC?
Login to BIlaunchpad as the SAP or AD user to receate the account in the CMC ---> recreate my ID again in CMC?
Retry the Test Connection in Universe Design Tool with the SSO option.--->and test the connection?
Please elaborate your answer. That will be highly appreciated.
    Regards,
    Sheikh Hassan Ayub
