Huge MacBook Pro Problem - Please Help!

Okay I have so many problems I don't even know where to begin.
I bought my 13" MacBook Pro in August of 2009. Two days after I got it, it completely stopped working. I took it to an Apple authorized repair shop, who told me I had spilled iced tea all over it and it was ruined, never to be fixed again. Long story short, I took it to a different Apple authorized repair shop, only to find out that the battery had leaked inside of it. When I got the computer back two months later, it would only remain powered on as long as it was connected to the charger. I took it back and had it fixed. All said and done, I finally had a working MacBook Pro in January of 2009. (Although much of the delay had to do with me living hundreds of miles from the repair shop).
Fast forward to July of 2011. Mountain Lion, I believe it was, had been released, and I was going to upgrade from Leopard. I worked in a Museum and my boss said that I could use their DVD of Snow Leopard to upgrade, so I could download Mountain Lion through the App Store, since I was using my computer for work a lot and they had a license. I upgraded and I have had nothing but nightmares since. For the past year and a half, my computer is constantly freezing, applications quit unexpectedly, and if I have more than one tab open and happen to do something safari doesn't agree with, I get a notice that "Webpages are unresponsive. Please click continue to force reload" or something along those lines which then forces every site in all tabs to reload but often just causes safari to crash. Furthermore after Safari crashes when I open it again, I have to leave it for AT LEAST ten minutes before the app becomes responsive. However, if I force quit safari immediately after I open it (post-crash), then open it again - it works fine. Weird, I know.
Now I have some really big problems. My computer is constantly going into a kernel panic, where I get the grey screen informing me to restart (and by constantly, I mean I'm shocked I've been able to type this much and not lost it all to a restart warning). Sometimes when I restart as soon as I log in and get the "you had to restart because of a problem, send a report to apple" dialogue, I immediately have to restart again. Sometimes when I restart, I get the circle/slash and it won't turn on. And lastly now, in the last hour (of which I have had to restart twice), it refuses to boot in anything but safe mode. I'm not holding down the shift key.
Oh and another thing of note - it refuses to open some programs, giving various errors; it refuses to allow me to move around files (error code -50); and it refuses to let me empty the trash (error code -50 again). I'm trying to free up a ton of space on my harddrive but it's proving difficult because of my MacBook's refusal to cooperate.
It's all backed up so I can do what I need to do to fix or alter this situation. My boyfriend wants me to just rescue everything from my harddrive and buy an air, but I'm having a lot of trouble considering that because of the amount of issues I've had with both this computer and my iPhone Bring back the iBook! They were the best.
NOTE: I had to restart my computer twice since I started writing this. Thank goodness for autosave on the apple communities.

Thanks.
This is what I'm getting for my most recent:

  • HT204406 iTunes Match saying I'm limited to 5 devices...but I don't have 5 devices and won't work on my MacBook Pro. Please Help!

I've just got a new MacBook Pro, and want to have iTunes Match on it. But when I go to 'add this computer' in iTunes on the MacBook, a message comes up saying I've reached my limit of Match being on 5 devices. This makes no sense because I only have match on my iPad and my old Windows laptop and nothing else.
Out of curiosity, I turned off iTunes Match on my iPad to see what would happen, but I still cannot get Match on my MacBook Pro.
    Please help!

    Do a backup before proceeding.
Try putting the 10.6.3 disk in the computer. During a restart, hold down the option/alt key, select the disk, and see if you can boot from there. If so, select the language, then go to the Utilities menu, and select Disk Utility. Check to see what partition scheme you have by selecting the hard drive.
If you don't have GUID, you are going to need to erase the drive and reformat, which will cause you to lose all your data. Did I mention doing a backup?
If you do have GUID, run Disk Utility repair disk and repair permissions. You may have to do this more than once. Then try in install 10.6.3.
If successful, use the combo update to get to 10.6.8 and then run Software update until there are no more updates.

  • If you already bought the windows version of office (Microsoft, Powerpoint...) can you run it on the macbook pro? Please help.

Can you run the windows version of Office 2010 on a macbook pro? please answer back.

Yes, if you use Boot Camp to run Windows on your Mac, Microsoft Office 2010 will be able to run without any issues. If you want to run Microsoft Office from within Mac OS X, you would need to purchase Microsoft Office for Mac.
Hope that helps, have a great day.

  • Possible hard drive problem with MacBook Pro? PLEASE HELP!!!

MacBook Pro loads to login screen with my personal account (which shows a grey silhouette) my student account(shows custom pic) and guest account(same grey silhouette) there is no feedback when I click on anything. I have restarted it multiple times & don't get anywhere with it. I just updated stuff on the macbook prior to this incident. I need help because I have all of my business, school, and personal things on this machine. What could be the cause of this? Why is it happening? I need it fixed ASAP as I have work that needs to be completed
P.S. I am unsure of the exact operating system but it was the Mountain Lion that it came with. I was planning on upgrading to Mavericks tonight until this problem arose

"Any drive can fail at any time."
Don't update anything until you have a large-ish external drive and Time Machine or other backup working.
You dodged a bullet this time. Next time, maybe you will not be so lucky.

  • Hi! I have a kernel panic problem on my macbook pro! Please help me!!!

Hi! At the Apple store they changed my harddisk twice, but they didn't solve my problem.. Every time I try to install applications or to update the software, the kernel panic message appears (you need to restart your computer..etc) and I don't know what to do! I have already sent the signal to apple and verified permissions and when I did the hardware test, it appeared that i have a 4MEM/1/40000000:0xa9facf98 error...

    PLEASE HELP ME!!

The Hardware Test detected a RAM problem.  Take out the chips and make certain that the connections are clean and reinstall them.  Make certain that they are well seated.
If the problem occurs again, test with one chip at a time.  Also swap bays if necessary.
Please indicate if you have installed new RAM and if so what brand and the specifications.
    Ciao.

  • Completed wrecked my Macbook Pro! Please help

Alright, this situation cannot be understated, my macbook is completely wrecked, and I desperately need help.
I'm not very "tech-savvy" and am not too sure on all the lingo, so please bare with me.
Earlier today, I installed Windows XP Proffessional 2002 onto my MacBook Pro, I did not do this through bootcamp as it wouldn't allow me to. Now after I installed it, I could only use Windows. I presume that I must have overridden the OS Lion paritions (whatever these are). Now, I managed to figure out that Command+R thing, and have run into more problems, when I go through the install thing, it then says at the end to chose a disc.
The only option is called untitled, however this says: "This disc doesn't use the GUID Partition Table Scheme, and basically says I can't do it.
Now, after some searching I was told to go into Disk Utility to resolve this. I will explain what I have in disk utility.
The left side looks exactly like this:
    500.11 GB Toshiba MK5065GSXF
           Untitled
    SuperDrive (Greyed out)
    disk1
         Mac OS X Base System
Apparently on the 500.11 GB Toshiba bit, it should have the Partition Map Scheme as the GUID thingy, however it has "Master Boot Record".
The "Options" inside the partitions tab is greyed out as well, and cannot be clicked.
Also, the other option is to restore from a backup, however I never made one. My mother also has a Macbook Pro, would it be possible for me to backup hers and use that backup?
Please somebody help me! I don't know what to do and I'm freaking out that I've broken it.

You need to boot using Command+r again and then use Disk Utility to erase that Windows XP partition and more then likely Repartitioin the complete drive. As I think the Command+r you are using is booting the computer from the Apple internet servers using the Online Lion Recovery HD system. Because if you Re-Partitioined the drive to install Windows XP and do not now have the drive set up with a GUID partition table you can not have the Recovery HD partition on your internal drive. Then format it Mac OS Extended (Journaled) and give the name of Macintosh HD, Click the Option button and make sure the drive Partition Table is set to GUID, then click Apply.
Yes that will Wipe Out the Windows XP you installed (which In My Honest Opinion you should not have installed in the first place. At least not to the Main hard drive).
Once that is done, finished, exit out of Disk Utility and Select Reinstall Mac OS X and click Continue. Have the computer connected to your internet Router by Ethernet cable when doiing all of this. OS X Lion install will start and when asked for the disk to install to select the Macintosh HD partition.
If you really need Windows maybe you should of bought a Windows PC and not a Mac. If you need to run Windows on a Mac you have 2 options.
    1) Use Boot Camp to partition and install Windows 7 on your Mac as a Dual Boot System. Yes you will need to BUY Windows 7.
    2) Use and of the three Virtual Machine software programs, VMware Fusion, Parallels or Virtualbox, and install any version of Windows into a Virtual Machine. Then you can run both OS X and Windows at the same time.
Of course there is a third option (If your Mac is Brand New). That is to Return it for full refund (Apple has a 14 dayNo Questions Asked return policy) and buy a computer, Windows computer, that is more for what you need to do on a computer. IE Run Windows and Windows Programs.
    Good Luck.

  • New samsung external dvd burner taking forever to rip a dvd on macbook pro. Please help.

Hello...the superdrive in my macbook pro died recently so I purchased an inexpensive Samsung SE-208DB/TSBS external dvd burner (with USB). It has been burning so far now about 14 hours and still on 55%encoding. I have 45 GB available on system and no other programs running at the same time. Not sure if it's something with the burner itself or with my mac. help please and thank you.

No, just a single USB, which, after reading some online comments elsewhere makes me wonder if it was a power-type problem with my mac. I think I'll have to return the drive..
    thank you for the help...

  • New macbook pro problem, plz help

hey everyone.i just bought the new macbook pro last week, 15" i7core 2ghz. i am a very serious musician, and im going going to university next year to study music, the whole reason i bought this computer is for recording, all the musicians i know who are serious/professionals use macs. when i first turn on my computer everything is fine, but once i plug my guitar in through my zoom g2.1u pedal, garageband freezes and i have to force quit it, this just started happening within the past 2 days.for the first week i recorded with it fine.  it was also happening yesterday without even plugging in my guitar at all. when this happens the internet also shuts down. when i open safari it doesnt say you are not conncted to the internet, it just has a blank white page. when this happens everything else isnt working right either, everything is slow and laggy. i paid alot of friggin money for this thing and i wanted to keep it clean the only things ive done to it were, i took some mp3, pdf and guitar pro files from my old windows xp onto my mac through a usb stick, downloaded a mp3 from online and set a cool backround as my desktop. I thought macs were supposed to be resilient? or do i just have a defective one. these problems are quite specific but if i cant use garageband/record with my mac theres not a rly a point of me having one.
i hope someone can help me out here.

  • IPhoto trouble on Macbook Pro. Please help!

I have reached max capacity on memory on my macbook. Bought an external hard drive to back up all of my pictures and to clear up room on my computer. I did this two days ago. Since then, I have not been able to open iPhoto. When I do, I get this message :
"Your photo library is either in use by another application or has become unreadable. Shut down and restart your computer, and then open iPhoto again. If the problem persists, try rebuilding your photo library. To do this, quit iPhoto, and then reopen it while keeping the Option and Command keys pressed. You can also try restoring your photo library from a backup."
Please help!!!! I have restarted my computer and that doesn't work. I am scared to rebuild bc I don't want to lose all of my pictures. They are from the first 2 years of my daughter's life. and to make matters worse, they are not showing up on my external hard drive either!! Please please help!!!!!!!

First don't confuse memory with hard drive space. You ran out of hard drive space.
Secondly you can post iPhoto issues in the iPhoto forums. Make sense?

  • Why can I not upload any images from my iPhone 4 to my Macbook Pro? Please help!

    Hi all,
I'm pretty much tearing my hair out with this one, I don't know what to do - I simply cannot upload any photos from iPhone 4 to Macbook Pro.
This problem appeared out of the blue. I am trying to upload to iPhoto - not working. I have clearing the cache - not working. Tried the Dropbox app - not working and the option has now disappeared altogether. Tried Image Capture - not working. I went and had my iPhone replaced altogether - still not working. I thought it might be a problem with my iPhone or a problem with the back-ups or sometthing so I plugged in my boyfriend's to scope it out - still not working. I have restarted all devices many times. I have read through posts and posts about this and cannot find an answer.
iPhoto says: unreadable files - unrecognized format - not true!!
Image Capture just says there is an error importing.
Any help would be much appreciated - it's driving me mad!
    Thank you!

I am assuming it's not a problem with the iPhone has I have tried several iPhones and had the same problem.

  • I can't download new version of adobe reader to my MacBook Pro.  Please help?

I can't download a newer version of adobe reader to my MacBook Pro.  What can I do?

No, sorry, that's not how forums work. We are just ordinary people, not employed by Adobe (and Adobe won't help, because it's free software).
Step 1. Try to get the file you want on screen. I expect you to see the message "If this message is not eventually replaced by the proper contents of the document"
Step 2. Understand you are looking at a page of a file, even though it looks like an error message. It is in a window, right?
Step 3. Move your mouse towards the bottom of the window. Stop moving the mouse. A little bar should appear with four buttons.
Step 4. Click the fourth button.
    Step 5. Open FINDER.
Step 6. Open Downloads from your left bar.
Step 7. Find the file you just downloaded.
Step 8. Double click on that file to open it.
Please do not skip anything, just because you don't understand it. Instead, let us know.
If these instructions let you down, please let us know (a) on which step, and (b) what actually happens instead of what I said.
