Huge mobile data traffic on 4.3.1

Hey,
a few minutes ago I checked my usage and the traffic says 4,0 GB sent and received! I didn't even got 1,5 GB in a year and recently a reset the phone so that the counter was on zero. Now that I updated to 4.3.1 this appeared´. Does anyone notice the same problem? I am on vodafone Germany with a factory unlocked 3GS 16GB. So far I have no problems with the bill because I have a flatrate thats now down to 64 kbit/s cause it's over 1 GB traffic but maybe some others will have a huge bill at the end of the month.

You're not alone. I upgraded my Mothers iPhone3GS last week and last night she received a text message from o2 saying she had hit her 500MB data allowance.
I checked the cellular data usage statistics and received data was at 490MB.
My Mother has about 3 apps none of which will be big data consumers. She barely knows how to text let alone start racking up that kind of usage. I think there has to be something wrong with the 4.3.1 update which is a bit scary if you think there will be people out there without inclusive data plans or overage charges.
I'll be interested to hear if anyone else there is observing similar behaviour.

  • Mobile data traffic

    Hello,
A friend told me he saw somewhere a blackberry service that offers unlimited mobile data traffic across Europe.
Is there any data service of blackberry own?
    Thanks, Artur
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

No services are offered by BlackBerry. BlackBerry only makes the devices and offers the BlackBerry infrastructure to the wireless carriers.

  • Connected to wifi but at midnight I am charged for "mobile data" on 3G (iPhone 4s)

I am on the Vodafone network and housebound. My iPhone 4s is connected to internet via wifi.
I have been incurring huge charges from Vodafone as a result of "mobile data downloads" ...which always occur at midnight when I am connected by wifi
I have had my phone looked at in a Vodafone store and they indicate that there doesn't appear to be any untoward apps on my phone.
I suspected the culprit to be the "Songpop" app and posted a message on their forum.
"Songpop" said this was a problem with my ISP but this has been ruled out as there aren't any drops in internet connection from by my ISP (they have looked at connection logs).
The official response from "Songpop" on their forum is that this an "Apple Support" issue. See here: http://support.songpop.fm/songpop/topics/playing_songpop_on_phone_via_wifi_but_i ncurring_download_data_charges_for_3g_useage?utm_content=topic_link&utm_medium=e mail&utm_source=reply_notification
Can anyone throw any light on this issue  as I have a very expensive bill to pay from Vodafone and I have not downloaded anything to my phone by 3G ...  and I rarely use 3G when away from home ... and if I do use away from home then I do not stream videos etc.
    Please help

Without looking at specific parts of your issue, here's how to turn cellular access off completely but keep your WiFi active:
Go to Settings > Airplane Mode and turn it on.
After doing that, go to Settings > WiFi and turn that on.
Then you will have WiFi and no cellular access.

  • Very high data traffic generated by Nokia Messagin...

Is anyone else seeing really high data use on their phone log following last week's Messaging outage?
Up until last week's outage, the data traffic generated by Messaging was about 5kb an hour (with no new emails sent or received). Presumably this small amount of data traffic results from the Nokia email server "pinging" the phone periodically to keep the connection open.
But after last week's outage and issues with passwords being requested etc etc, I saw that the data traffic generated by the Messaging app has gone through the roof - about 400 - 500kb an hour!  Again, this is with no new emails sent or received - so theoretically is just the server pinging the phone to keep the idle connection open!
I reinstalled Nokia Messaging on my phone (E61i) - no difference - the data generated by the Messaging app is still 400 - 500 kb an hour (it stops when I take Messaging offline).
I have friends roaming in Ireland and their phone has had the same problem - the data traffic generated by their Messaging app is sky high and they have had to shut it down because of the high cost of data whilst roaming.
I also newly installed Messaging on another phone (N95) that I have, using a brand new email account and a new T-mobile SIM card, and guess what - that phone also has sky high data traffic due to Messaging.
What is going on??  Can someone at Nokia Messaging please sort this out?  Anyone roaming with Nokia Messaging enabled is facing hugh data charges from their network.

The data traffic occurs in phones which are on a home network (mine in the UK) and on a roaming network (my friends traveling in Ireland).  Interestingly, I've now checked with another friend who is roaming in Italy and they also use Messaging but haven't seen any high packet data issues with their phone.
The data traffic shows up in the Packet Log, as well as on the actual T-Mobile network account (plus the charges for the data!)  Accessing a T-Mobile UK account online shows all packet data use - in this case, 120-150 kb every 15 minutes, whereas before last week it was 1-2kb every 15 minutes.
When I "Go Offline" with Nokia Messaging, the high data traffic stops, both on the Packet Log and network account, so I am 100% certain this is due to Messaging.

  • Exchange services drain on mobile data

Ever since the upgrade to .562 on the Arc s, exchange services seems to be using up much of my mobile data usage when left on (according to all the traffic readers).   The previous version wasn't like this.  Have had to switch it to manual sync now.
Anyone else having the same problem?
I've also noted that the battery doesn't last as long as before the upgrade.

I've developed the same problem - somehow my Ray (on 4.0.4 - 4.1.B.0.587) exchanged data with Exchange server via background a whopping 1,73Gb (my total folder size on Exchange is 139Mb) in just a week (07.09-14.09).
Tech is looking if they see what has been happening on server side.

  • My iPhone 4S register 3G data traffic even if all the app are closed

My iPhone 4S registers 3G data traffic even if all the apps are closed: whenever I'm not under wi-fi I see the 3G icon lighted up whenever I go trough set icon, or calendar or message device...even if all these utilities doesn't require 3G data. If I just check mobile data consumption I see it increasing of few KB per time.
I don't have neither push notifications nor location on, just I don't understand this phenomenon.
Please...forgive me for my English...I'm writing from Italy and it's not so easy to explain what I'm talking about.

I got...but whenever I open the setting icon, I see 3G becoming lit up and colored and..if I check "mobile data consumption" I can find out that this figure increases each time I check it...just going out and into again this section of the settings. Each time I send a message via SMS I see 3G icon colored and lit up again...even if I'm not using any data connection!!!!To avoid the problem I shut down mobile data conncetion when I don't need it and when I'm not under wi-fi...so I can't tell how much is the 3G traffic data generated during one day.
Just I wanted to understand if there's a different method to avoid it...

  • Platinum QoS profile limits data traffic

    Hello,
I have WLC which controls a WLAN that hosts data traffic and VoIP traffic.
I have enabled Platinum QoS profile and the throughput of the WLAN decreases to approximately 10 Mbps (With bronze QoS profile throughput was like 22~25 Mbps).
I would like to know how does the QoS profile limit the throughput of the WLAN? WLC gives a warning that data traffic will be affected but that doesn't tell much about the actual mechanism of traffic limiting.
I used iperf software sending UDP data @ 500 Mbps to measure the throughput.

  • Video & Media is the Number 1 Data Traffic Worldwide

BW Consumption wise: Video & Media is the number 1 Data Traffic worldwide. Expected to grow exponentially in the coming years.  Its a fascanating world of live, batch, complex processing with huge & valuable data inside. Related to Security, Revenue Opportunities, And many other market verticles. In order to properly process it very specific knowhow in needed. We have been working in the netwroking and Media area for decades.Over last few years, working with Informatica tool the question come what is Informatica solution to Video , Audio? Media Streaming and Processing? As we could not find to date we started utilizing our knowhow to create connectors into Informatica B2B and other tools, enabling future and existing customer to use INFORMATICA instead of dedicated hardware. One example is the Media Sensor (https://community.informatica.com/solutions/main_screen_vod_media_sensor). Appreciate any feedback and thoughts. Thanks, Gal

Dear Experts, I am facing facing an issue with lookup transformer in B2B DT, seeking your advice to fix the issue: Sub: Lookup transformer is returning NULL inside Repeating group. I have created variable of SILICON_TYPE of type cde:lookuptable and set up one lookup transformer LKP_SILICON_TYPE. When I am referring to that lookup table in repeating group and trying to pass output to one of the data holder, it is returning NULL. However when I am running it solely outside repeating group for any specific key value it is working find as expected. In repeating group, I am using Map action to map return value of Lookup table to map with output data holder along with other Map actions. Please find screenshot of variable declaration and Repeating group definition. Please provide suggestion and advice to fix the issue. Regards,Ravi

  • Mobile Data Disabled

During the past two days, I have repeatedly gotten a message on my phone saying "You've reached the specified mobile data usage limit; If you re-enable data, you may be charged by the operator."  The thing is, I have unlimited data on my plan - and under my phone's Data Usage settings, there is no mobile data limit set.  Is this happening to anyone else?  It's a HUGE inconvenience, because even when I select "re-enable data", it doesn't always do that and so then I just reboot my phone... only to get the message again.

I saw on another post that several people have had luck w/ doing a factory reset on the phone.  This just started happening to me this morning (it's happened 3 times so far).  I have the Motorola Razr Maxx and also have unlimited data as a carryover from my previous phone.  I've never seen this happen and, when I called the tech support rep, his response was "i've never heard of it...you might try a factory reset."
I also saw on the same forum the other person was talking about, that some guy set his data limit usage at 35TB to turn it off and he's not had any problems since.  The pain in the butt part is you have to scroll thru the numbers...which are in MB.  And you can't type the amount in.  Can it be more frustrating??

  • IPhone 4s mobile data does not stay turned off.

I have an iPhone 4s running iOS 7.1.2.  When I go into the mobile settings and turn off the mobile data on my applications that I don't want to use my mobile data for, when I exit out of the settings and go back in, they have been turned back on.  I've tried a hard reset and doing a reset and then putting the back up back on the phone and none of it seems to help.  Its already cost me an additional $40 on my last phone bill because the settings didn't stay off and my songs auto downloaded even though I had the settings turned off.
If there is a fix other than having to reset and not use my backup I would love that, as nothing else I seem to try works.

Clean the iPhone charging port with a clean dry toothbrush.
If still problem, iPhone 4S has full Warranty, make Genius Reservation and take iPhone to Apple for resolution.

  • Windows 7 Pro x64 does not detect HP Mobile Data Protection Sensor (accelerometer)

    Hello there.
I installed win7pro x64 yesterday and already came across a serious problem that makes my way of using the notebook a bit dangerous for my precious data.
When I was working on HP-branded Vista 32bit (from recovery partition etc), there was a device called HP Mobile Data Protection Sensor together with HP ProtectSmart (or Protect Smart) software. In other words, the HDD accelerometer that parks HDD's heads when it "feels" it's falling or something, and software for it. It worked brilliantly.
Until I decided to install Win7... Then, surprisingly after a driver-install failure and taking a look at the Device Manager I noticed that there's no such device! I checked it three times, looked at every device's property, even reinstalled Vista 32bit back - it showed again - and installed Win7 - not detected again. There's nothing that has Device ID's HPQ004! I remember people saying that after fresh Windows install, there were 6 unknown devices or more. I had only 5. [Fingerprint device, 3x MemCard reader and IR receiver]. There was no accelerometer... Also, when I try to install the drivers/software, the windows pops up:
ProtectSmart Hard Drive Protection: with text Property.AccelerometerNotPresent
and then another one saying something like Features were not installed because of installation error or unsupported feature.
So now I'm stuck with a notebook that is unsafe to travel with, because the disk is no longer protected
I already installed all the drivers available from HP page, even downloaded newest ones from Intel (chipset) etc.
Is there a solution to this? Has anyone else encountered this problem?
Windows 7 is officially out and available as RTM version, not beta, so I think HP should open support for it and release new drivers for win7! And most importantly, fix this issue ...
    This question was solved.

Well, thanks to myself, I fixed it. After some thinking I remembered that ACPI = BIOS-related. It appears that there is a problem with the newest (F16) BIOS.
    F.16 changelog is below:
      Version: F.16 A  (26 May 2009)       Fixes
Updates the Intel MRC Code to version 2.7.
Updates the Intel AHCI OP ROM to version iSrc 1.20_E.0012 11252008.
Updates the BIOS to support Microsoft Windows Vista Operating Systems with Service Pack 2 (SP2).
I went back to version F.14 and... boom! New (unknown) device found And guess what, it's ACPI/HPQ0004... So now my HDD is protected again ^^ yay!
I don't know which of these changes cause that, but it looks that that can be fixed.
I'll go back to F.16 again to see if the device will disappear and then contact HP support on that case.
EDIT: Well, F.16 breaks things again, so it's definetely a BIOS problem. Thanks for... umm... well... at least spread the word, guys I hope this helps if someone has the same problem.

I am having the same issue even with the newer 7.1. I have a 1-100 KB data push on both my husdand's and my phone every hour on the hour (i.e. my will be at :23 of the hour and his will be at :13 of the hour and it will change). This is whether we are on a WIFI and with all apps, background refreshes, push notifications, etc turned OFF.

  • Mobile data(3g and edge) on lumia 620

    Hi,
i have problem with connecting my Lumia phone to mobile data, i tried connecting through 2g, the browser was working but not my messenger apps including WhatsApp, so i tried connecting through 3g and WhatsApp, Skype and none of my messenger apps seem to work with 3g data too, with wifi all these work fine, has anybody faced similar issue, please help

There may be a problem with your apn settings. Your phone is designed to retrieve the settings from your sim card. Unfortunately not all sim cards support this especially iof you have an old sim or sometimes the sim could be faulty. My suggestion for the moment are to make sure you have the latest version of the Access Point app on your phone and if that does not resolve then contact your provider so see if function is supported or try a replacement sim.
You can doenload the latest version of Access Point using the Link to the QR code below.
