Huge number of Managed Properties

I've recently started at a new company and inhertied the existing SharePoint Farm. I've looking at search as it seems quite slow crawling content. One thing I have noticed is that there is a huge number of Managed Properties >5000. There are
pages and pages like the one below.
There are only ~1800 Crawled Properties so I'm not really sure why there are so many Managed Properties.
I have noticed that the SharePoint and Office categories have the 'Automatically generate a new managed property' enabled. The farm uses a number of 3rd party addons and I'm not sure it they are responsible or not at this point or if they Require the
Automatically generate Properties option.
Just wondering if anyone had seen this or may have an idea?

Hey Scott, thanks for replying.
The managed Property Mapping looks normal it's mapped to a single Crawled Property.
Although there are >4000 Managed Properties mapped to a single
Crawled Property which is weird.
I don't know where the Crawled property is coming from though. This is 2010 so I can't use the
SiteCollection property of the Get-SPEnterpriseSearchMetadataCrawledProperty command to filter. I'm not sure there is another way of figuring that out.
I'll probably end up trying to delete all of these Mapped Properties or Just create a new Search Service Application and start from scratch.

Dear photo experts,
at home, we have a huge number of photos we took over years. We are looking for a software able to organize all of them. We currently have:
Adobe Photoshop Elements 10 (Mac)
Adobe Lightroom 3 (Mac)
However, for organizing photos we so far use none of them but a third software (here, we are not happy about how it handles our huge catalog of photos).
Our photos are stored on a server (network attached storage), organized by date and event.
I read that Adobe Photoshop Elements cannot organize photos stored on a network drive.
Now my questions:
- Can Adobe Lightroom organize photos stored on a network drive?
- Is Adobe Lightroom capable to organize a huge amount of photos in one single catalog (separating them via tags)?
What are your experiences?

I use Lightroom for all of my photo management (yes, I said ALL). I never use the operating system for photo management. Lightroom works great. People here in this forum who have much larger catalogs than I do (over 1/4 million photos) also use Lightroom to manage their photos.

Co88 - for huge number of production orders -running for hours

Hello All,
I have a issue, in our manufacturing plant, we have huge number of production orders created every day, almost 1200 per day. During month end it takes almost 8 to 10 hours for running settlement, we find very difficult in doing month end closing. We also attempted parallel processing, it errors out.
I heard that, the co88 program looks each order by order checking the status, like closed, and thats the reason, its time consuming, i am not sure how far its true.
I am sure this general issue, people might have come across, can anybody share their experience. How to overcome this issue to run the settlement with possible minimal time, is there any note. please guide me

Yes, this is a generic issue. Most clients manage by marking the orders as closed/deleted, so that these orders are not considered for period end settlement.
Also consider note 545932, and search notes fo further help.

Limit on number of Managed Servers in a cluster

          Hi All,
          Do you know if there is any limit on number of managed servers I can have in a
          cluster.
          If there is a limit then how many?
          If not, is there a recommended limit from BEA?
          We are using Weblogic 6.1 SP2 and we have 16 managed servers running in the cluster.
          Under heavy load (through put about 600-800) the console is not responding fast.
          Also when we try to monitor the Weblogic Servers from the console under Monitoring->performance
          , the screen is not getting refreshed faster(which makes me think the monitoring
          info I see on the console is not completely correct).
          I have a heap size of 96m for admin and 768m for Managed Servers.
          Did anyone see this problem before.
          Are there any command line arguments that I can add to make my console respond
          faster?
          If not, do we have any patch from BEA that makes console work faster?
          Please suggest.

In Latest version of SAP MDM which is 7.1 we have the liberty to use multiple Main tables so answer to your question is yes we can use 20-30 main tables, now the question is that what type of data model you are prepairing this question is just to understand your entire structure and may be suggest some thing at higher level on which you can think and then take corrective action as per your thoughts.
Generally even if you are integrating Customer/Products in single repository and then designing the main table you wont have to prepare such huge number of main tables you can have these two main tables and then rest of then as sub tables and refer it to each other also you need to know what imapct it will have on system performance becuase they would be referring to each other and also if you are creating some thousands of records in each repository then it is more advisable to use limited number of main tables and use MDM to it's fullest capability by designing such model that we have best utlisation of server performance.

Content Enrichment - Updating System Defined Managed Properties (Author, Department)

I've been running into a couple of oddities whilst working with the content enrichment web service.   Initially I worked through the sample here:
http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/jj163982.aspx#SP15ContentEnrich_configure, which shows how to update the "Author" managed property.   In our case this is something we'd like to do but I haven't been able to get this to work at
all with the system defined "Author" managed property.
When we crawl the content everything seems happy enough however we don't get the extra author value "ExampleService" appearing against the "Author" managed property.   I've setup a 'replica' of the "Author" property
"AuthorReplica", which has the same crawled property mappings etc and the enrichment service happily updates the values of this when I run a full crawl.
To further test this I've rebuilt the Search Service as well as also starting up a brand new seperate SharePoint instance.   In all cases I can happily update the "AuthorReplica" managed property but the system defined "Author"
property won't update at all.
I noticed that their is some type of relationship between the "Author" managed property and the "DisplayAuthor" property and I wonder if this could be related.   I also notice with the "Author" managed property, that
it provides an user lookup type box when you display it as a refiner.   Perhaps their is some further processing occuring with this Managed Property further along which knocks out the update I make.
A second oddity that I've noticed has been with the "Department" property.   In our case we have instances where content may cover multiple departments.   To enable this I have updated the "Department" property to
"Allow multiple values".   When I then attempt to update the department property I receive the error: "The item failed due to an error occurring when sending or receiving data to the external content processing enrichment web service."
Again, I've created a replica of the "Department" managed property called "DepartmentReplica" which allows multiple values, and this property happily updates using the same code.
Hopefully this all makes sense.

my colleague explained to me with quite complicated method, but the summary that i can get is this issue is by design, so the behaviour is expected.
consideration:
if the author property is easily changed, then it may affect other feature that may use that as base point.
explanation:
In this case while the indexing was mapping and being indexed properly based on the defined crawl
property the actual issue was display based and related to how the teaser summary was being defined and displayed based on the query.
By default the body attribute of the Search index-profile has a static fallback summary defined by the internal teaser field. This static fallback summary is what is displayed whenever a query is being performed which
doesn't return any hits over the actual defined body field content(for example a query matching a term in the title or
author of a document). Instead of returning the query context sensitive summary of the body with the highlighted query term, the defined fallback static summary is displayed.
So in this specific use case the dynamic summary based on the managed
property (body in this case) is only being used if the query submitted actually has a hit in the
managed properties content(i.e. the defined body). Otherwise the defined fallback
managed property content is always being used(i.e. the default ‘teaser’
managed property content).
Here are some example query results illustrating this using the two sample docs you provided with the teaser
managed property defined as the fallback hit highlighted summary for body:

We can see in these query results when the search term is actually contained in the body content that the teaser returned is based directly on the body content(which is the mapped blogbody content). Otherwise the teaser returned is from the static
hit highlighting summary fallback(literally the ‘teaser’ managed
property).
The problem in this case is that the "teaser" managed
property is internally generated by the indexing pipeline and
doesn't necessarily reflect the contents of crawled properties being mapped to the body field. This difference initially caused the impression that sometimes the default body content was incorrectly being used instead of the mapped BlodyBody content.
The only way to guarantee that the result list teaser summary shown is always going to be based on the body would be to set the body as its own hit highlighting fallback(as is the default case with some properties like ‘title’ for example).
Because body is a very important managed
property and making changes to it (like mapping a crawled
property) and modifying the way the indexing pipeline normally populates it can potentially produce unexpected results. For all content sources which share the body
managed property the decision was made to not modify the body content and to let the indexing pipeline
populate it automatically. From the testing performed it was confirmed that the indexing pipeline was already populating the body using a number of the defined blog crawled properties including BlogBody.
If you wanted to always display the contents of a particular crawled
property as a part of the results list display you can always just create a new
managed property and map those crawled
property contents to it(assuming a mapping did not already exist). Then just display that
managed property as a part of your results.
The only remaining point of potential concern was if not mapping the BlogBody and BlogBodyNoHtml crawled properties to the CrawledPropertiesContent
managed property would prevent them from being used to
populate the body field by the indexing pipeline.
After removing all the blogbody crawled property related mappings to the body and crawledpropertiescontent
managed properties I re-crawled the two blog sample documents I was provided with some spy stages inserted into the indexing pipeline so I could see exactly what was being inserted into the BODY attribute. This is what the body
managed property populates and what is mapped to the default context full-text-index that all the “free text” searches are being performed against.

Huge number of page faults .. amost 5 million in 4 hrs operation .. running XP on HP Pavilion laptop

I prefer Firefox to IE for a number of reasons.
Lately I am experiencing slow operations .. noticed huge number of page faults for firefox.exe 4,710,333 in 4 hrs operation in task manager.
Running XP on HP Pavillion laptop with 2Gb memory with Avast virus protection.
3 recent scans show no viruses. Cleared all cookies etc and .tmp files.
Yahoo Messenger 11 and svchost 1560 also have high page faults .. 1,971,264 and 1,193,792 respectively.

Re: excessive page faults. Closing unneeded apps is not helpful. The excessive page faults -27million after running Firefox for about 3 hours happen even if FF is the only thing running apart from Winxp files and minor antivirusware.
This only started when I downloaded FF 8 in Nov 2011. I am really fed up because eventually things slow down and webpages won't open. I really would like to go back to an earlier version. So, does anyone else have a solution to this?

How can i organize a huge number of events?

I just began with mac and iphoto. I imported a lot of photos from windows (google picasa) in iphoto (>17000). Now I have a huge number of events, which i would like to sort by e.g. years and months. Within the years and months, the events should be placed.
Is this possible or what would you suggest to handle a lot of photos?

Assuming that you have events sorted by date (event menu ==> sort events) your events will be sorted by date & time - you can not create a substructure within events - it is a large flat set of photos
If you want a hierarchal structure use albums and folders - albums hold photos and folders hold albums or other folders - you also can use smart albums to instantly find all photos from a date or a date range - or the search window in the lower left
Events a a very basic, inflexible and pretty much automatic organization - just a starting point to hold photos
I generally merge trips into a single event and leave the other time based - others merge even more having events like 1st quarter 2010 etc

How do I delete a huge number of duplicate albums from my itunes for mac library?

I have a huge itunes music library, over 900 GB, and as it turns out I have a huge number of duplicate albums. Is there a way to automatically get rid of the duplicate albums so I am left with only one of each? If not, what is the best way to identify and remove my library's duplicate albums? Thanks!

iTunes does not have any automated way of deleting duplicates.
You can identify the duplicates by
View > Show Duplicates
or
Alt + View > Show exact Duplicates
(or if you are on windows Shift+ View > Show Exact duplicates
There is a third party tol which is free to download and then register. Although the copy I tried worked fine as a trial download

Managed properties in display templates

Hi
I'm trying to include some custom managed properties (GlossaryProductString) into my custom display template but the ct.CurrentItem.GlossaryProductString is always undefined.
What I did:
Create managed property and mark it as retrievable
Full crawl (I'm able to find results when using GlossaryProductString:"some content" as query)
Downloaded the item_default.html and renamed it
Added GlossaryProdcutString to the ManagedPropertyMapping properties ('GlossaryProductString':'GlossaryProductString')
Add the content to the template:
Product: _#= ctx.CurrentItem.GlossaryProductString =#_
all other stuff that is needed that the display template is used
The display template shows up for the results but the GlossaryProductString is always empty (undefined in JS object)
Any ideas?

Communication lost - Same installation, same version of client (.exe), but client has different configuration in Configuration Manager properties

Hi, I can't understand how I get the following different between old and newly installed client. On the left side it is the original client configuration and on the right side it is what client gets after installing the same version of CCMSETUP.EXE (5.00.7958.1000)
with SCCM 2012 R2.
Differences noticed:
-Catalog's name (in Software center) are different. New client has "IT Ogarnization" as name for their catalog.
-Configuration Manager Properties for new client doesn't have "Configurations" Tab.
-Many Components status in the components tab are different: CCM Notification Agent, Compliance and Settings Managment, Hardware Inventory Agent, Out of Band Mangement Agent...
With all this, I can't send Windows updates or any applications to ANY clients. The client status in the monitoring deployment always shows "Unknown".
I don't think it is on the client side, because I return to older VMware snapshot and see the different, after uninstalled and re-installed the SCCM agent, I get the new "problematic" client configuration.
Any suggestion to resolve my problem? Thank you in advance.

I noticed that my wife's Firefox v35 running on Windows 8.1 32bit has a huge number of files like:

Some files are quite new.
The original files get somehow backed up, but I cannot figure out how. My own PC does not contain such files.

Based from online resources we modified "*_allow_level_without_connect_by*" by executing the statement.
alter system set "_allow_level_without_connect_by"=true scope=spfile;
After performing the above, ORA-01788 is resolved.
The new issue is that the same query above returns *9,015,853 records in 11g* but in *9i it returns 64 records*. 9i returns the correct number of records. And the cause for 11g returning greater number of records is due to system parameter LEVEL used in the query.
Why 11g is returning an incorrect huge number of records?
Any assistance to address this is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

The problem lies in th query.
Oracle LEVEL should not be used inside a subquery. After LEVEL is moved in the main query, the number of returned records is the same as in 9i.

Huge number of idle connections from loopback ip on oracle RAC node

We have a 2node 11gR2(11.2.0.3) oracle RAC node. We are seeing huge number of idle connection(more than 5000 in each node) on both the nodes and increasing day by day. All the idle connections are from VIP and loopback address(127.0.0.1.47971 )
netstat -an |grep -i idle|more
127.0.0.1.47971 Idle
any insight will be helpful.
The server is suffering memory issues occasionally (once in a month).
ORA-27300: OS system dependent operation:fork failed with status: 11
ORA-27301: OS failure message: Resource temporarily unavailable

Create huge number of IDOC

Hi All,
I am asked to create a file to IDOC scenario in PI. The problem is, the file will have around 200,000 records, 96MB. That means I have to get the 200,000 records from the file and create 200,000 PO IDOC at once. I know this is not possible. Does any one have this experience? How did you solve the problem?

Few ways to implement this.
Though the file has huge number of records, you can tweak or control the number of idocs creating at the reciever side.
Refer michal blog for edit the occurence of target idoc structure to sent the number of idocs as per the need.

if your sender side is flat file then in the content conversion you set the parameter Recordsets per message like 100 or so.. so that you create 100 idocs each time from the sender message structure. Refer SDN forum for fcc parameters and sender fcc adapter scenario.

If you see Develop in the Safari menu bar (top of your screen) click Develop.
If you see any check ✔ marks, select that item one more time to deselect.
Then try that site.
If the Develop menu was not available, go to Safari > Preferences > Extensions
If there are any installed, turn that OFF, quit and relaunch Safari to test.
And in Safari > Preferences > Security
Make sure Enable plug-ins, and Java are enabled and deselect Bllock pop-up windows
Quit and relaunch Safari.
If installled, try temporarily disabling anti virus software.
