HUGE PROBLEM with sound in DVD Studio Pro 4

As I imported the soundtrack of the footage that I have (which is about 1h16), the combinaison of my video & the sound is over 4,7 Gig. Therefor, I can't burn it on a DVD.
I exported the audio in a lower quality to finally obtain a size of around 210mb for the sound (which was 844mb BEFORE!!!)
BUT, As soon as I add it to the timeline, the size goes up again to 855mb encoded!!!!!! I even tried which a compressed AIFF file of 50mb and the sound is still encoded to the same size, 855mb!!!
Where and how can I change the encoding of the audio in DVD Studio Pro so that I can lower the quality just a little bit so but my video and the audio will fit on a standard 4,7 Gig DVD!
Thanks!!

Drop your aiff files into Compressor, and elect Dolby 2 with -31 normalization no film compression.
I don't know what you mean by "I exported the audio in a lower quality."
Audio must be 48/16 stereo aiff/pcm before it is encoded in Compressor to Dolby 2.
What are your target and maximum bit rates for video in Compressor? Are you export video and audio separately before encoding in Compressor

  • Having a problem with audio in DVD Studio Pro with the finished copy

I am making a DVD of a clip I had transferred from a mini DV. All the audio was present when I transferred it. I had then turned it into an MPEG movie format (.mpg). When I play that clip there is audio. Then I compressed the file on Compressor. I selected the file format by choosing Apple > DVD > DVD: Best Quality 90 minutes > MPEG-2 6.2Mbps 2-pass (the clip was about an hour and 20min long) and compressed the clip. I then opened DVD studio pro, made a menu, and then added this new file (MPEG-2 6.2Mbps 2-pass). I burned the DVD and put it into my DVD player. The picture was great and everything worked fine except there was no audio. How do I get audio into this DVD? I have tried compressing my .mpg file into the Dolby Digital Professional 2.0 option that is under DVD: Best Quality 90 minutes, but when I try importing that into DVD studio pro it a message pops up saying "Incompatible format." It might also help mentioning that when I saw the file size on the Dolby Digital Professional 2.0 after compressing it, it said Zero kb. How would I get audio onto this DVD? I would really appreciate your help, I tried to be as detailed as I could. This DVD is for a family member and is urgent, so anyone who can help would greatly be appreciated. Thank you so much.

If you don't want to go back and recapture the tape you need to understand that MPG files need to be "DeMuxed" to extract the audio. My recommendation would be to use the free MPEG Streamclip and then select your MPG to be Demuxed into an AIFF file. That AIFF file will then need to be converted to an AC3 file, similar to what you did with the video.

  • Problems downloading the new DVD Studio Pro update.

    Hi Everyone,
    I was wondering if anyone else has had this problem/message when trying to download the new DVDSP update?;
'You appear to have already downloaded the DVD Studio Pro update.'
This also happened on the last updates that were released.
There is a workaround that I know of that I had to use last time but it seems strange that this is occuring. Has anyone else had any issues with this update (or the last for that matter)?
Any help would be greatly appreciated as Apple Tech would not help me because I am on a Volume Licence and the Apple Store that I purchased it through has not given me any help.
    Thanks
    Carlo

I can get around this problem by using software update to download the updates and then use the downloaded file to update the machines but I would really like the ability to download the updates as a standalone dmg file.
I am running 20 systems on an airport network that will freeze up if I do the updates online the best i can do is 3 at once to avoid serious lag.
Being able to download them seperately was always my first choice so i could update the machines regardless of being conected to the net or not. The workaround that I am using only downloads the package file and it seems there is the possibility of them being corrupted or damaged over time (moving from server to drives to media to computers etc).
I still want to know why it thinks I have downloaded them already, it doesn't make any sense.

  • Thoughts on BEST COMPRESSION for use with iDVD and DVD Studio Pro...

    Hi all...
I'm having an issue with some visual artifacts that are present after burning a dvd using either idvd or dvd studio pro.
My sequence containts footage (h.264) and photographs with titles. The photos (w/moves) look great, very crisp. So do the titles.
However, the video looks awful. Pans and tilts creating streaking, so does any action with the frame.
I don't see this streaking while viewing in the qt window or when previewing the dvd...
I'm exporting as a qt reference using the dv/dvc pro setting, when I check the dvd on an ntsc monitor, the image is very streaky.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks,
    Mark

Are you using FCP?? Then I see why you said QT reference movie... which is the best way. Being more descriptive about your setting when posting a question will return more helpful answers. (editing tool, source materials, machine spec...etc) You said that your footage was h264 and you posted your question in iMovie forum so I couldn't have guessed FCP and DV...
If your sequence is DV on FCP I can't think of anything else but QT reference movie route. I don't understand why your video won't show interlacing in QT player or DVD preview, but perhaps they force deinterlacing for preview, who knows.
You said your DVD looks 'very streaky' on ntsc tv. Is it to the point that it looks unnatural? Is overall motion jerky? If so, perhaps the field order had been messed with and changed. But I'm not quite sure about the exact nature of your problem. Visual problem in a subjective verbal description can be hard to communicate

  • Creating BITC DVD with FCP and DVD Studio Pro

    Ok so here's my question:
I've created a sequence with BITC, and now I want to export it to DVD studio pro so I can burn it to a dvd. I've been exporting as a quicktime movie, at DV PAL Anamorphic res. When I bring it into DVD Studio as an asset, it has to re-encode.
Can I drop one of these steps - ie. how do I export from FCP so that the resulting file does not need to be re-encoded in DVD studio.
I'm sure this is really very simple, but it's going to help me a lot - I have several (10-15) hours of footage to do this with. Thanks in advance...

export the file as a QT not self-contained use current settings
luanch Compressor, drag and drop the QT file on to the window then encode to get
M2V video and AC3 sound file
    import those into DVDSP

  • Can I avoid re-encoding of .mov files with Compressor and DVD Studio Pro?

    Hello,
I've had some projects banned at one of the tracking sites because my iMovie 6.0.1/iDVD 7.1.1 workflow involves re-encoding of the iMovie .mov file to MPEG 2 when authored in iDVD. I did some research, and was advised that I could get around the re-encoding by using Compressor and DVD Studio Pro instead of iDVD. But, when I import the iMovie file to Compressor for authoring in DVD Studio Pro, the result is another MPEG 2 file. So, am I missing something, or is there no way for me to avoid re-encoding with Apple video production tools.
    Thanks for any assistance.

The simple fact that you have to encode your files into an mpeg-2 stream means that you're going to experience a loss in quality.  Check the bitrate of your DV files.  The max bitrate for all of the elementary steams (audio, video) on a DVD is 9.8mbps.  So if your source has a higher bitrate than that... you're going to experience "lossiness."
However there are some tricks that I've read about that increase the overall quality of compression... and yes they are for windows.  Check out AVIsynth and MeGUI... there is a learning curve to learning these tools though.  I never followed through with it.
EDIT: Also forgot to mention that learning these things takes TIME.  Quality encoding takes much longer than realtime.
You can also check out some higher quality mpeg2 encoders like cinemacraft and HC encoder, although the former costs $$$.  The quality you get from these encoders are much better than what you have in iDVD and DVDSP/Compressor.

  • Trouble burning with Alias and DVD studio pro

Thanks for taking a moment to read this.
I'm trying to make a DVD-rom and have everything linked up correctly, however, when I drag or copy my pdf documents into the right folder, it creates an alias of the files. This seems to be common when burning regular DVD's and the computer then simply burns the main files from the alias onto the disk, however, when I burn the dvd-rom through DVD Studio Pro, only the alias's copy to the folder and then the links within the dvd don't work(there is no data, only the alias for the documents)
    Any ideas are much appreciated?

It sounds like you have set up a "Burn" folder. You do not want a burn folder. Create a regular folder. Drag everything you want on your DVD into that folder (or copy everything you want into that folder by Option–dragging the file into the folder.) Then in DVD SP click on your disc in the Outline then look at your Inspector. In the DVD-ROM section, select the folder that you have set up.

  • Exporting HDV with compressor to DVD Studio Pro

Could someone tell me what I'm doing wrong? When I export an HDV project using compressor for DVD Studio Pro and choose the 4:3 ratio, my video ends up squeezed horizontally. I would like to "chop" off the sides so that my subjects don't look unnaturally skinny. I just need a sample workflow to see what I am doing wrong. I'm rather new to DVD Studio Pro, so appologies blah, blah, blah. Thanks in advance.

    Ooops, sorry
    Open up Compressor
Click on the Preset You Want In General (or make a new One)
That will open Inspector, then click on the second icon from the right (geometry) The crop is there

If you have difficulties fixing problems with software that is acting up I would suggest that you do a clean install of your OS and the software. That is, after backing up your files, of course.

  • Very strange problem with sound in dvd player

    Hi
I have a strange issue which I am cannot resolve. I recently purchased season 2 of NYPD Blue on dvd, region 1 (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00008YGRR/qid=1151702794/sr=1-3/ref=sr13/103-1409159-4182204?s=dvd&v=glance&n=130). The season is spread over several discs. The region of the dvds is the same as that of the superdrive on my 1.25 factory spec 15” pb running 10.4.6.(always has been region1) On playing the dvds in dvd player, the sound is very quiet, and you can hear a slight hissing noise (picture is fine). However, if I set the balance of the speakers in system preferences to the left (as far as I can) the sound becomes louder and the hissing disappears. Hence the sound is normal, other that the fact that it is unbalanced. The same happens if I set the balance to the right. Hence the hiss is only there when the balance is set to the centre or around it i.e. slightly to the left or right. This problem is true of all the dvds in the set.
Fair enough, the nypd discs are defective.
However, I then played them in a standalone dvd player without any fancy sound settings etc and no problems at all. Hence I then thought that the problem was with my pb - the only different thing I have done lately is use handbrake to put some of my other dvds (not these NYPD ones) on my iPod, so I thought that handbrake had done something (although I don’t know see how it could have done anything). However, today I tried some other commercial dvds in my pb (produced by the same company) and they sounded fine as has been the case for over two years. Hence, there is something about the nypd blue dvds which affects the quality of the sound output in my pb when the balance is centred. However, whatever this is it doesn’t seem to bother standalone players, nor is it something that anoth of my other dvds have.
Any ideas on what exactly is going on here, as it has me stumped.
(I don't have any other season of nypd blue, so I can't see if these have the same problem as well.)

  • Blurry background in DVD studio pro

    Hello,
I always have problems with backgrounds in DVD studio pro. Whether I use video or a photo for the background, the image goes slightly blurry. This is especially noticeable when I use the same image for a transition. As soon as I click "play" on the dvd, and the transition begins with the same image used in the background, the image becomes perfectly crisp. Is there a setting I am missing somewhere? Please help! It's incredibly frustrating.
    - Thanks

    Timateo:
You cantry changing your DVDSP Preferences, in Menu group from Hardaware based to  Software based, or from Software to Hardware in case yo have that setting.
Depending on your hardware configuration changing that setting can gives you better rendering in Menus.
    Hope it helps !

  • IDVD and DVD Studio Pro hang and crash since 10.5.6 update

Seems like there are a lot of problems since this 10.5.6 update... I came here b/c of a prob with iDVD and DVD Studio Pro not working anymore. Was just trying to "Share/Export" an iMovie project to iDVD (and then tried again with DVD Studio Pro) and the program just hung and crashed and also wouldn't let me Restart or Shutdown very easily either. What gives?

  • DVD STUDIO PRO 2 SETUP/CONFIG

    Hey Gang,
New to this forum and I need some advice.
I have DVD Studio Pro 2 and have just downloaded the updates from the Pro download page (DVDSP 2.05, etc).
    I'm running OSX 10.2.8, w/768Ram, 60gb free HD space.
iMovie 4.01 (I have FCP 2.X but never used it)
    Quicktime 6.5.2
I would appreciate any suggestions on maximizing my system for DVDSP 2 with the above specs.
I have owned this product for years (just found the time to get into the manuals, tutorials etc. to learn it) and I would like the learning process to be as smooth as possible.
Is trying to get an upgrade to DVDSP 3 worth the hassle plus the expense?
I'm not much of a geek and have little time to experiment, so I plan on upgrading my system when High Definiton is or about to become the De Facto standard and the prices for all the necessary gear (software/hardware) have come down and/or improved. Right now I would like to work with what I have if possible.
Hopefully this time next year I'll be ready to move up to the Studio pkg. with a new system.
    Thanks

I don't know the answer to your question, however, it may be to your advantage to post a new topic.
1.)When you first enter the DVD Studio forum at the top left of the screen you'll see Forum: DVD STUDIO Pro in bold letters
2.)Underneath that you'll see "post new topic".
3.)Click and you can create your own topic/thread [B}Sending DVD Studio Pro audio to Sountrack Pro
4.)Be sure to state what version of DVDSP you're using.
5.)then members will reply to your specific question/problem.
PS: I'm in the same boat as you (seeking info). I'm still waiting for someone to provide me with info regarding DVD Studio pro 2.

  • Compressor footage crashes dvd studio pro 1.5

hi posted this a while back in dvd studio pro forum but there was no answers. I am still getting same problem so thought I would seek advice again.
I am after some advice after I encountered a problem using footage converted with compressor in dvd studio pro 1.5.
If I compresss footage using high quality encode through fcp with compressor option it causes dvd studio pro 1.5 to crash with unexpected error occured, about half way into building either disc or img file .
If I convert the footage using quicktime conversion and guessing bitrate then it works fine .
one thing I have noticed is that the m2v file has a timecode beginning 1 rather then 0 which it has if I convert using the other method, so maybe I have something wrong in compressor settings?
what would be an ideal setting for a 80 minute film?
    I am using fcp 4.5, compressor 1.2.1 quicktime 7.0.3 and os 10.3.9
    thanks

    Hi Adrian
I'm wondering if your build is crashing due to a bitrate spike caused by Compressor - it's reknowned for this. In DVDSP2 and above you get a warning in the log when this happens, maybe 1.5 is somehow missing this. Quicktime's mpeg exporter is a much more stable encoder and doesn't suffer from bitrate spikes. Another thing to have a look at is your audio. If you're using the .aif file that Compressor or DVDSP creates it's a pretty high bitrate od 1.5Mbps. If you re-encode your audio using A.pack to Dolby 2.0 with a bitrate of 192kbps you'll give yourself alot more headroom even with bitrate spikes.
    Hope some of this helps
    Good luck

  • HELP!  DVD Studio pro shows a 3GB movie as 88GB!

I am realy in deep troubles!
Doing a (volentary) documentation about my city, the final doc movie will be shown at 7.januar 2006.
Since 1 1/2 year i am working on DVD projekt and nearly finished.Suddenly DVD Studio pro goes crazy.
I have a lot experiances with iMovie and iDVD but not with Production Suite (FCP + DVD Studio pro) .Maybe i have some misstakes done with FCP or DVD studio pro. But i can't see what and why because during this periode i have burened and check it on TV couple of times bevor.I could cry.
Just have upgraded to the newest Production Studio pro Version and same result.
Ok, one thing i have changed, and later the Problems stared!
In DVD Studio pro you can say how much motion you have.
small, meduim, often i guess (have it in german)
This setting worked and i could one time burn a DVD.
I can say the quality was better, better color and less noise or moire.
I changed it back, but no success.
I have seen in the forum discussion about audio which might
doe troubles and some advises using a.peak tool.
I have checked the aiff files and there are terrible big!
350 MB the biggest. I am totaly confiused because it worked bevor. Have checked the sequenzes from FCP which still works.
What would you suggest first befor i jump out of the window.
Many thanks for any helping hand
    Sven

Finaly i have solved my problem!
The forum and the helpers did guide me in the right direction. It was not logicaly to me why it work again.
With FCP i could view the sequenz correct.
Then i used compressor-2 with DVD Best Quality, 90min 2 Pass 90min. Best motion. GOP closed.
The output i imported into DVDStudio pro.The import was about 4 minute while bevor it was a few seconds!
I did "clean up" DVDStudio Pro removoed the dvdstudio....plist file -> same result
I did start a new FCP projekt with a new Sequenz, imported all the work i have done befor (lot of work)
    and used compressor again.
Then i imported with DVD Studio Pro the compressor files
(this time dolby ac3 audio file) and the import was done very quick.
I could burn the dvd (2.3gb instead of 88GB) and a first quick look this (very early) morning was good!
I chosed this way because i am not sure does working with multiple projekts (not sequenzes) can disturbes the other projekts if they use the same movie. So i will continue with a Projekt, finish them, and start the next from scratch. Hope have no problems like this again ...
    regards
    Sven
