Ok. So me and a really good friend of mine want to start making videos and posting them on youtube. Inspired by smosh (two friends who are popular on and make videos) we went onto their website to see what they use to make their videos. We were shocked to see the price of the program. And to make things worse, we needed a mac. I have figured out how I will get both, so I'm set on final cut pro 6, but i'm mixed on wether I should get an imac or a macbook pro. I go to my friends house all the time and would probably frequently make videos there, so for that I would need a macbook pro. But I've heard amazing things about the imac. Bright screen, high quality product, and it has the computer in the monitor. It is also quieter that the macbook pro. But I couldn't bring that to my friends house I heard the macbook pro is also better for editing videos. What should I get. Macbook pro, or an imac. And if you actually read all of this and don't have an answer, sorry for wasting your time. And if you do have an answer, thank you so much. I don't know how I could thank you.

If you will be shooting only DV or HDV you may not need all the features that pro software like Final Put Pro offers. That is a very hefty program. You might be better off getting Final Cut Express. Cheaper, same interface, and few limitations like only working with DV and HDV, some higher end graphics options are there. But it is very well suited for the beginning filmmaker. And you can use an iMac for that.
But really, the MacBook Pro is a far better machine than the iMac. More expandibilty (the Express34 slot gives you much needed options).
And yes...editing can be expensive. But it doesn't need to be. I recommend you start with FCE.

I have a theory. You don’t want to controll your car, you want to controll somebody who is driving the car. Volvo XC 60 is a nice family car, usually used by married men between age of 35-45, probably with small children, so it’s very unlikely that you want to controll your teanage kid, mainly because probably even if you would give him/her to drive the car in the neighborhoud, I don’t think that he/she would be „several hundred miles away”… If your child is not young teneage anymore, and he/she has his/her own life, but you want to control him/her, that is sick… So I am convinced that you want to controll your husband who probably travelling often! Am I wright?

What could you do it's to put in the car a GPS survelling system, however I don't think that you could do it without your husband knowledge, otherwise he won't be able to start the engine...

I uploaded photos from my camera card onto my desktop in a folder. I then moved that folder onto my dock just to make things organized, and now that I'm trying to open the folder, there is a huge question mark over it and wont let me see the photos.

I am not sure whats going on! These were photos of my best friends wedding dress, and now they are gone. I erased them off of the camera card I was using from my boyfriend (probably a dumb idea), and now I can't "re-upload" them. Now I feel like I lost them forever. Can someone help??

Did iPhoto launch? Check iPhoto and see if they in there.
Did you put it on the right side of the dock where the stacks are? Check in Documents.
A folder with a question mark usually means the dock item is no longer connected to an application.

HUGE question, is the harddrive under the battery?

For all of you that have recieved your macbook I am wondering if the Hard drive can be accessed easily. I would like to change the drive out but wondering if the whole case will have t be removed to do it. There was speculation that the removal plate might be under the battery.
Any help from current owners would be greatly appreciated.

ok just took the plunge and bought myself a 120gb drive so it might be too late to ask this question lol.
Does it look to you that the connector is the inward part of the drive and that the drive will have to be shimmied up on the opposite side and then pulled out?
Also does this new DROP system in the macbook involve any wires being attached to the drive or is it all external?

Huge question PLEASE HELP ME!!!!!

Okay, so I'm returning my iPod to get it fixed. But I dont have the receipt anymore because it was on my hard drive and it broke. So I dont have that any more. Will I still be able to return it? I mean, they can look at the serial number and stuff and see when I purchased it and who purchased it and everything right? How do I get a copy of the receipt back? Who do I email or contact? Many thank yous to anyone who helps me.

I had exactly the same problem. I tried to get a warranty repair after 11 months and the Depot Service page said my iPod had no warranty left. I purchased the iPod in NYC and had lost my receipt. I emailed support and told them where and when I purchased my iPod and they amended the warranty date for me without having to mail/fax a copy of my receipt. I suggest that you do the same thing if you have any problems organising a Depot Repair.

Huge colossal Back-up/restoration question!!

I have a huge question regarding a major emergency I'm experiencing now. I accidentally deleted my iTunes library on my computer. Almost all my music is backed up on my iPod, but the problem is, iTunes was set to where it automatically updates my iPod when it gets connected. I need to know how to definitely disable this, because I can't risk losing all the music on there (5000 songs, 200+ songs from iTMS). I know of programs like Senuti that will let me copy it to my computer, but I need to know that this is disabled before I do that. Anyone who can help, I appreciate it.

Signing a document using a plugin in different versions of Reader

Hi,
I am signing a pdf document with my own .cer file using a plugin. Everything works great in Reader 8, I've got a green check, it specifies that this is a valid signature and I can view the certificate. In Reader 9, however, I receive a huge question mark, but it still specifies that the signature is valid and I can view the certificate. In Reader X, the signature is "UNKOWN".
How do I get rid of the question mark? Even if I delete the vector data for the drawing the question mark in the plugin, a big yellow question mark is still being displayed in Reader 9 and X.

Again, I know NOTHING about your plugin, your code, the certificate in question, etc.
The ONLY WAY to get you an answer is for you to provide our support staff with the PDF in question, at least as a starting point. Please open a support contract.

BPC as an accounting model in BI

Hi experts:
I am start hardly working on the BPC solution and I have a I huge question. BPC seems to be based on a accounting model. That means that the account is a crucial dimension. What if I would need to build a planning scenario for a analitic COPA, based on key figure model. In that case, I would have a infocube (loaded from SAP ERP - COPA) defined with no account and 100-120 key figures. Even in this way, I could have some performance problems because sometimes there are a lot of information.
What's the correct model to define in BPC?I guess that In BPC I should create the model with accounts and would have a account model where I would transform key figures into accounts. Then, we have some doubts:
1- What about performance problems?
2- What about creating quieries to compare both infocubes?
I can imagine that it is not a solid model having actual data according to a key figure model and plannig according to account model data.
I am not a BPC consultant as I am just starting to working on it. I am a SAP FICO consultant with wide experience on plannig is some knowledge in BPS and IP. Perhaps, I am not really understanding the global concept (I apologize wheather it is like that) but I would be grateful if you give your opinion about that issue.

Hi Sorin, at first glance, no problem to do it with MSTSC:
with TSE 2003 on Windows 2003 SP2, publishing only iexplore.exe, everything seems to work fine and user only sees BPC applications (iexplore, bpc for excel, bpc admin...).
(programs toggle of mstsc must contain this kind of information:
- start the following program on connection: checked
- Program path and file name: C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\IEXPLORE.EXE)
mstsc release is 6.1.

How to use generated code from "Import Web Services" with Cairngorm Framework

I recently downloaded Flex Builder 3 beta 2 and tried out the
wizard that lets you import web services. The code that is
auto-generated makes if fairly straight forward to consume web
services using the object types defined in the WSDL. No longer does
the developer need to decode the XML payload! The only problem I am
having is how does you integrate the auto- generated code with the
Cairngorm framework? This seems like a huge question for anyone who
might want to leverage Cairngorm and the auto-generated proxy code
in the same project (like me).
Here are the problems that I see so far.
1) How do you configure the generated service class to work
with the Cairngorm service locator? The service constructor only
accepts a “LCDS destination string” which implies that
you must use Lifecycle data services. Unfortunately, the project I
am trying to retrofit currently uses a WebService and does not use
data services. All I really need to do is change the endpoint URL
(ie from local to a development server). This issue is noted in the
bug https://bugs.adobe.com/jira/browse/FB-8456. What I think is
needed is a way to set the endpointURI in the Services.mxml file.
2) Even if I come up with a hack around #1, I do not receive
a callback to my IResponder even though I register it immediately
after the method call. I can register and listener function within
my business delegate and receive the callback, but my Command
object, which implements IResponder, does not receive the call back
even though it is registered. From what I read in the ASDocs it
should but it doesn’t for me!
These are the issues I have observed in 3 hours of messing
with this. I hope this makes sense. I would love to integrate
auto-generated web service proxies into Cairngorm but I don’t
see a straight forward way without re-architecting Cairngorm. Has
any one else run across this issue? If so, do you have any insights
on how to proceed? Any help is appreciated.

Since I posted this question, I have abandoned the notion of
auto-generated web services and embraced the good old FDS concept
where the RemoteObject meta-tag does all the conversion work for
me. We are now using the Granite DS package and it is working well
for us. I would love to consume web services, but it just isn't
worth the hassle when all you have to do with Granite (and FDS) is
cast your return objects to the proper object type.
BTW, since this posting, I have investigated competing Flex
app frameworks. After my research, I checked out the PureMVC
framework. Wow!! Cairngorm always left me with an uneasy feeling
and I guess I am not alone. Apparently, Cliff Hall felt the same
way. That is why he started the project. I like his approach alot
more than Cairngorm especially since it includes notifications
which allow me to broadcast my own app level events independent
from the AS Event framework. Check out PureMVC. For what it is
worth, it has my humble endorsement. Cliff was even gracious enough
to acknowledge the other Adobe Consulting guys for their work. Good

How Do You Use Layers in Adobe Photoshop Elements 6?

I enjoy merging photos and such together so I can create really neat images, but I am not sure how to do that with this program. I checked out the Help section, but it didn't really help me. Maybe someone on here can. Thanks!

You are asking a huge question. You'll get a better response if you ask something specific about a problem you are having with layers.
I'm not trying to be mean but you can find vast amounts of basic info on layers with a simple Google query. If you click the Video link after inputting a search query, you can even find video tutorials. YouTube is one place that has quite a few video tutorials.
How layers work hasn't changed between Elements versions. Layers work the same in Photoshop. The application interfaces may be slightly different but layers are layers.
FWIW, I'm not a big fan of the manual. You're better on getting something like "The Missing Manual" by Barbara Brundage or looking for info on the Internet. One free resource with tons of info can be found here:

The tutorials found at the above link use an older version of Elements so you won't find info on the newest tools and features but the basic Editor info on layers and the tools still apply.

Creating a refnum for a specific type of control

Hi All,
I have attached a VI that I made, but not from scratch. As near
as I can tell, it is not possible to make this subVI from scratch
because one cannot find a Dignum Refnum in any menu containing
refnum's. However, the edit>Create SubVI menu function was not
only able to make a subVI for me, it was also able to magically create
the refnum I needed in the first place (the one I needed to make the
subVI from scratch).
This is not a huge question, but the whole thing took me an extra, and
annoying, 0.5 hrs this morning because I insisted that if LabVIEW can
create that refnum, so can I. I was wrong. Or was I?
What am I missing here?
(The reason I had to specifically use the DigNum RefNum is because a
simple control reference doesn't have access to the text properties).

I used to use the sub-VI method to create the proper type of refum control.
I believe it was a past Nugget that showed me that if I did a "ctrl-drag" of a control ot the type I wanted onto a generic refnum control, the refnum would adapt.
First step
Ctrl-drag boolean onto refnum
drop and it adapts.
This feature was added in a recent version of LV. Not sure which.

Powerbook will not network with PC

I have spent the last 4 hours in the Apple Discussions forums trying to find a solution to my problem with no avail. Please forgive me if I have alot of links to explain my issue, I'm just too exhausted to re-iterate. So here's the jist...
I wanted to network my Powerbook G4 (10.4.6) to my PC (Windows XP) to share common files like pictures and music. Seems simple enough.
Searched around here for a 'how-to" and found this nifty guide that was linked in tons of other posts. I followed it to the tee. End result: PC reading MAC works like a dream. But like so many other people, MAC just would not read PC.
Looked for similar problems posts, followed all the same solutions listed everywhere I could find them. And still nothing.
Finally, I found this thread. My details sounded pretty much identical, kept reading to the end where the user had the following conclusion:
"To resolve this problem: on the remote (PC) computer, select Administrative Tools>Local Security Settings>Local Policies>User Rights Assignment, right-click on Access this computer from the network>Properties>Add Users or Groups, add everyone or any users you want to be able to access the computer from the network."
Seemed like such a reasonable solution (I had tried everything else). But when I went into my Windows XP, I could not find "Local Security Settings" under Adminstrative Tools. DANGIT!
After spending another 2 hours googling THIS issue, I pretty much concluded that this function (adjusting network access) can only be performed in Windows XP PROFESSIONAL!!! Unfortunately, I am running Windows XP HOME EDITION.
Sooo... after all that... my question is this:
Does anyone here know either --
a) How to do the above suggestion for Windows XP HOME Edition? or
b) After following all other suggestions... how the heck can I network my Powerbook G4 and my PC Windows XP HOME machines?!?!?!?!?
For the love of all that is good and right with the world, someone PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE help me. The AD forums have always been good to me. Don't fail me now, faithful MAC users!

UPDATE: In the interest of helping all of you to assist me better, I've decided to write a more detailed post listing exactly what I've done so far. I'm hoping someone out here will have a solution for me. So here goes... this will be LONG, so please bear with me.
To re-cap, I want to network my Powerbook G4 (10.4.6) to my PC (Windows XP HOME EDITION).
As recommended here in the forums, I followed iFelix's guide to the tee. Below, I have re-iterated the steps that I took:
Before you begin, ensure both computers have their firewalls turned off, or have the relevant ports opened. These ports are UDP 137 and 138 and TCP 139, 548 and 427.
On my PC, I went to "Control Panel" >> "Windows Firewall" >> have Firewall on >> but clicked "Exceptions" tab >> under "Programs and Services" ticked off "File and Printer Sharing" >> to double-check ports are open, I highlighted this and hit "Edit" >> ports TCP 139, TCP 445, UDP 137, and UDP 138 are listed. >> I successfully opened the remaining ports TCP 548 and TCP 427 manually by following these instructions.
On my MAC, I went to "System Preferences" >> "Sharing" >> Under "Services" ticked off "Personal File Sharing" and "Windows Sharing" >> clicked over to "Firewall" tab to double-check ports are open, I highlighted these and hit "Edit" >> under "Personal File Sharing", ports TCP 548 and TCP 427 are listed >> under "Windows Sharing", ports TCP 139, UDP 137, and UDP 138 are listed.
Ensure that first each of the computers can access your network. Ensure that the IP address of each computer shares the same subnet, i.e. 192.168.0.x
Both my PC and MAC are under subnet 192.168.1.xxx
Ensure that the Windows PC has a user account with a username and a password and to know the shortname and password associated with the Mac.
Windows PC user account is "chelle" WITH password.
MAC shortname is also "chelle", also with password.
On MAC
System Preferences -> Sharing --> Ensure that Personal File Sharing and Windows File Sharing are checked
As stated above, I already did this when I was ensuring the correct ports were open.
On PC
Do not try and share the whole drive only share folders, trying to share a whole drive can result in unexpected errors.
I only want to share one folder (13GB of common files inside -- mostly photos, mpgs, and mp3s).
On the relevant folders you want to share, right click and select Sharing and Security...
You will then bring up a new window, which will be different depending on whether you are using simple file sharing or not.
Select Share this folder and give the folder a relevant name (it makes sense to avoid spaces and keep it all in lower case.)
As stated in my reply to rockewan above, I already did this too. The name of my desired shared folder is also called "chelle".
PC to see MAC
Start -> My Network Places
Click Add a network place
You will then start the Add Network Place Wizard
Click Next
Select Choose another network location (you have more than the choice indicated here) and click Next.
Type in "\\IP Address of Mac\Mac Username" (i.e. "\\192.168.1.xxx\chelle")
Then click Next.
You will then be asked to Type a name for this network place:
In this case the I have used the name of the Mac as the Network Place label.
Then click Next.
This will then add a folder to your My Network Places folder.
And you will be able to access the files in the folder on the Mac from the PC
Followed all of this and it worked splendidly. Unfortunately, I want the files on my PC to be accessible off of my MAC more than the other way around. Instructions for that below... last step!
MAC to see PC
Finder -> Go -> Connect to Server
You will now see the Connect To Serve window.
Type in smb://IP Address of PC (i.e. smb://192.168.1.xxx)
Click the + button for Finder to remember this location.
Click Connect
It will then attempt to connect to the PC
I FOLLOWED ALL OF THIS CORRECTLY... BUT THIS IS WHERE MY PROBLEM OCCURS...
When my Powerbook attempts to connect to the server, I receive the following prompt: The Finder cannot complete the operation because some data in "smb://192.168.1.xxx" could not be read or written. Error Code -36).
This is where I began to search the forums, and I tried many different ways to enter (i.e. using cifs://, using servername, etc.) but none of them worked for me.
I finally found this <a href="http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=2006084" thread</a> in which the user eventually concluded at the very end that it was a Windows issue and had this solution:

How to entirely develop an application with PCI-6221 in Borland C++ Builder V6 in DAQmx?

I've just used LabVIEW with DAQmx8 create dll file for C++ builder 6. My application is to use PCI-6221 generate Analog output. ( just DAQ assistance ).It works well.

Buy VS Rent on Apple TV

Okay so I have a huge question. Why am I paying retail prices for movies and getting horrible encoding. At least with a physical disc (which is the same price) I can rip it off at least with the 5.1 Surround Sound and with a MUCH MUCH better encoding. But if I buy a released one from Apple it's only in ipod format. Which is great if I wanted to watch it in stereo on an itty bitty screen. So Apple what's up with this? Why no HD love to the buyers? and why am i pigeon holed into buying when really I want to rent new releases?
I don't get the Apple Media experience at all anymore, before it was buying a small selection of movies, then it's rental of a large section of movies, now it's buying only at retail physical disc prices with no rental option of new releases. How many personalities are at the wheel here?

What content is available and what you can do with that content is controlled by the rights holders, the studios. So, in a sense, yes, there are many personalities at the wheel.

Report Localization Suggestion

Our product support many languages and till now we used several RPT, one for each language and for every change in the report we need to go al over the other reports as well.
I tought about something else and I need your opnion if it is possible from the RPT side:
1) I will send key & values for the localized strings as a parameter to the RPT.
2) There will be a customized function in the RPT that receive Key as an argument, search this key in the parameter and return the localized string back.
The huge question is how can I call to that custom function from the columns headers for instance without the need to create formula to every column header or other Static string.
Many formulas (something like 40-50 in each report) reduce performance and I would like to avoid that.
Is there a way to do that ? does anyone used different approch ?

Hello Roei.
For every column you can create a custom formula such as:
If CurrentLocale = "en_US" then "Column Heading in English" ELSE
If CurrentLocale = "fr_FR" then "Column Heading in French" ELSE
Then use this custom function for every column you want to show the heading. Based on the CurrentLocale correct heading will come up.
