Huge smileys in latest Skype update

In the latest skype update, whenever you post a smiley on its own it becomes this huge animated thing which takes up two lines of text. Is there a way to stop it from doing that so it stays the normal size, like if you add a smiley to an existing line of text? It's very annoying.

That's not a bug, that's a FEATURE DON'T YOU ENJOY THE GIGANTIC EMOTICONS OMGOSH WE CAN BARELY SEE THE MESSAGES AND NOW THIS! No way to turn it off in Windows either. YEAHHHHHHHHHHH
Turn off Emoticons or do this:
Download Skype 6.21 from here filehippo.com/download_skype/58884/
then go to Control Panel -> Administrative Tools -> Services -> Skype Updater -> set to DISABLED
then go to Control Panel -> Internet Options -> Security -> Restricted Sites -> Sites -> add apps.skype.com and g.msn.com

Can't install latest Skype update on OS X 10.5.8

I get a message that my version of Skype is to be retired. Then I find my operating system, which cannot be updated (Mac OS X 10.5. is unable to run the latest Skype.
So I need a new computer?

6.15.334 actually works pretty well on the Mac, but the question is for how long....
Mocrosoft have decied to retired 6.14, which means that in about 8 months to a year, they will decide that 6.15 is due to be retired to, and that's it, gone.
The requirements for 6.19 are utterly stupid - a 1 Ghz CPU with Mavericks??????
The person who wrote that knows nothing about MacOS - there is not a single Mac with a 64bit EFI architecture that has a 1Ghz CPU, and the 32bit EFI machiens won't run Mavericks.
As Microsoft are prone to enforcing a hardware requirement whether it's needed or not (the requirement of PAE on a 64bit system when installing Windows 8.1 is a prime example), once they decide to ditch 6.19, we're stuck.
The windows version (desktop and metro ui) is terrible, bugridden, overcomplicated, cluttered and slow. The Mac version looks cleaner, is pretty lean, and runs fast on my 8 y/o macbook.
It's the only saving grace with Skype at the moment, and they're going to drop it when they feel like it, and sod all of us who don't have a brand spanking new mac.
Regarding 10.5.8, unless you're on a G5, I would suggest an upgrade to at least 10.6.8 (as far as you can go on a Core Duo 32bit), or 10.7.x on anything above a Core 2 Duo.
Even if you can only go up to 10.6.8, it's a big improvement over 10.5.x.

Installation of latest skype update

Having been perfectly happy with 'old' skype, we're now compelled to download v1123456.I have to download 'new' skype every time I want to use it.It won't stay installed.There is a message that says 'find' (??) the setup thing but it is nowhere to be found which probably accounts for its failure to stay installed. Fortunately, (most) contacts remain accessible. I must say it's hugely charitable of you guys to fill in for the support function that should be provided by skype! After trying to use the new and 'improved' version, I'm left feeling rather less charitable, I must say. As for installing a clickable call thing or MSN as homepage...wtf?It seems leaving well enough alone doesn't compute in IT world. Can anyone recommend a simpler, easier VOIP system? Thanks! Latest Skype update - issue with lost conversations and contacts

Can anybody help with this problem?The new Skype layout looks like a classical Microsoft Office sotware (scroll-down menus from the top bar) and in spite of what was announced before installing the update, the damage to the history of conversations and contacts is massive!!!

MMy iPhone was synced with my computer and the cloud. After re syncing, pics and contacts remain in cloud and computer but won't sync to my iPhone. Even my IT guy at work is stumped! I would love to have all my pics and contacts back on my phone. I have not yet updated my iPad d air because I'm afraid the same thing will happen.

I have been having a lot of trouble with the latest itunes update and my ipod classic 80Gb i.e. being unable to sync songs, but now i have no files at all on my ipod, it is completely blank when i view it from my computer. I need help, please, anybody.

As it says above, i have been having a lot f trouble with my ipod classic and the latest itunes update, i was unable to sync songs or anything to it and have tried every conceivable 'fix' i could find. i have run an itunes diagnostic and the results are posted below. a major problem is that when i try and view my ipod through my computer it displays nothing at all on the ipod, no files or anything, this may be the problem but i have no idea how it has happened or how i could resolve it.

Here is what worked for me:
My usb hub, being usb2, was too fast. I moved the wire to a usb port directory on my pc. That is a usb1 port which is slow enough to run your snyc.

If you have ThunderBolt, I would go with such for an External Working Drive, spinning platter or SSD depending on your budget
This does not have to be huge just big enough to house your most current Jobs
Once the Current Job is put to rest I would move it to a larger multi bay hard drive unit, USB or FireWire nothing fancy, no RAID, set up as one single Disk
This would only be accessed when something is needed from a past Job so the connection does not have to be speedy
The Drobo would be relegated to Vaults and backups
You can set up a Vault on the Drobo to back up the External Working Library and then Reconnect it when you have moved the Library over to the other Enclosure
This has worked for me pretty smoothly for a long while, but I have found over the years that one can not assume all people work in the same manner! :-)

Skype update disables my laptop's touchpad

I am running Windows 7 on a HP laptop. Since Skype updated itself, if I have Skype running I cannot use the mouse touchpad and I have to plug in an external mouse to regain any sort of control. But even then I have limited use of the mouse. I cannot select other open windows. When I hover over the start button or the task bar, I get the Windows 7 wait icon and cannot click on anything.

It seems to me that you are having a similar type of issue that seems to be common among some users with the latest release. It's probably less that your mouse is actually disabled but rather that the touchpad software/driver is "frozen" like the rest of your desktop. For the mean time you will have to downgrade to an earlier release and disable automatic updates.

Skype update 12th June has wrecked Google Chrome

Newish ASUS laptop, Windows 8.....GChrome working fine until an auto-update from Skype 12/6/15 - now, when I try to open GChrome, the Disk Usage shoots to 100% for about 5-10 minutes (freezing the laptop). If I access Task Manager and close ALL the GChrome apps (including those listed in "background apps", then the Disk Usage goes back to normal and the laptop functions fine.
OK, I could just use IE instead, as that browser doesn't cause any problems, but all my bookmarks are in GChrome, and the adblocker, so I'd like functionality back there if possible.
Any thoughts? It's definately just GChrome/Skype related, nothing to do with AV software or such like (as I've already uninstalled that & the problem persists)

I was using skype in my Kindle fire HD without issues.
From last week or so, i got notifications for upgrade of skype.
When i choose to download option using amazon app store.
I get error skype is not compatible for this device error.
and not able to use old verison of skype also.
So what should i do . Stop using skype? or kindle?

TS1372 After the latest iTunes update iTunes no longer sees either of my ipods. Diagnostics says no ipod connected. However my laptop, which is running Window 8.1 does see the ipod.

After the latest iTunes update neither of my iPods are recognized by iTunes, so I am unable to sync. When I run diagnostics it says no device connected. My laptop sees my iPod so I know it is connected. I have tried all of the recommended iTunes fixes and none work. I tried deleting and reinstalling both an older version and the newest version. The older version would not reconize my music libray. Any thouhts?

Doublechecking. Have you also tried a complete uninstall of both iTunes and all the other related software components and then a reinstall? If not, try the instructions from the following document:

After doing some data mining, found out from community this is an long standing APPLE problem- which doesn't get much tech support in terms of fixes. I have an HPPavillion DV6 64 bit, Windows 7 OS . After reading an earlier complaint from 2009 in the support community, I ran diagnostics from ITunes which gave the following result. Can someone please help? (I'm not enough of a techie to know what I'm doing or how to locate /reinstall CD drivers. I am searching for driver disc but cannot locate.)

Doublechecking ... did you have CD/DVD drive tests checked when you ran those diagnostics? (I'm not seeing the CD/DVD test results down the bottom of the results where I'd expect to see them.)

When I try to send something from my iPad pages via email to be opened on my desktop in Pages, it won't open in Pages. I get a message that it can't be opened because the version is too old. I sent the document as a PDF and it worked. But I want to be able to use Pages back and forth. HOw do I update the Pages version on my desktop iMac?

The file format used by the iOS versions of the iWork apps can only be read by the new iWork apps on your Mac - i.e. Keynote 6, Pages 5 & Numbers 3. Those versions for the Mac require Mavericks, OS X 10.9. The "too old" error on a Mac comes if you are trying to open an iWork '08 or earlier file in the newest apps. If you do have the newest apps you can open the files from your iPad.
If you can't or don't want to upgrade to Mavericks & the newest iWork apps your best option would be to export/share the files from the iPad to a type an older version of iWork can read such as Word, text, Excel, etc.
Or contact AppleCare. They made this mess, let them fix it.
