HUGE TRANSITION CROSS DISSOLVE PROBLEMS

Ok, I copied everything to a new project - same problem (unrelated frames in the background of a transition between 2 other clips). But now on top of that, sometimes it doesn't even create any transition at all! I have no files in Render media. People are telling me to dump preferences - what exactly does that mean? Please tell me step by step. Go into User Preference? which folder (general, editing...etc)? Do I just uncheck everything? Also, the apple8 isn't working as default transition anymore - it's just gone light grey & I have no idea how to get it back.
Please help...
Thanks,
Billy

Trashing Prefereneces is done by closing FCP, then navigate to this website: http://fcprescue.andersholck.com/... nice little utiltiy to do that.
Not sure it will help, but won't hurt.
Apple 8 is a keyboard shortcut to open the log and capture window... command (apple) +T is the keyboard command to add the default transition.
Control click on the cross Dissolve in the Effects tab in the Viewer, and select "make default transition"...
Most of the time, when a transition isn't added it's because you don't have enough unused media to accomodate it. (you've edited in all the media that's available from a clip or subclip). Take off 15 frames on either side of an edit point that has this prolblem, and you should be able to add a 30 frame centered transition that way.

  • Cross dissolve problem - only works as fade in with graphics clips

I inserted three graphics clips with transitions (cross dissolve default) at the beginning of a sequence. The transitions only seem to work as fade-ins I have plenty of extra frames beyond the edit section of the clips. I tried to adjust the transitions in the transition editor - it shows the transition aligned to start at the edit, but won't allow mw to choose to center it on the edit or end on the edit.
Thanks for any help you can provide

Thank you - no, there seems to be a handle only on the left side of the edit (to the left of the transition - which sits only to the right of the edit). On the right side,(in the zone of hte transition) the cursor shows the symbol for the roll tool - r. Excuse my limited understanding of the interface and tools - I am just beginning to learn FCE.
I will be away from the workstation until tomorrow morning.

  • Cross Dissolve problem

    Hi,
What are the correct settings for a fluent cross-dissolve from one clip to another?
I am using version 12 of Premiere Elements and the standard length of my is 1 second (50 frames). However the result is that I still can see the faded out video 'stop' (instead of fading completely) and the new video seems to pause before it's fading in.
Obviously I want it just going smoothly from one clip to another.
Seems to me like a basic setting to any video editing software, but I cannot seem to fix this.
    Thanx for your responses.
    Best regards,
    Ronald

Using some freeware, I have also some info about my original video file format. Maybe that helps to determine what settings I should put in Premiere. And looking back now at my video, I guess I described my problem wrongly. Looking closer at the transition, it's not really like previous clip has not fully disappeared, it does fully disappear, but ends with a few frames of still image, like the next clip starts with a few frames of still image....

  • Transition (cross dissolve)  has random audio

    Hi Gang,
Since I have been using I MOVIE HD, I try to do a transition joining two clips (cross dissolve) and reguardless of the lengh of the transition, it pulls in a piece of audio from some other part of my project.
I only get this audio problem when I use cross-dissolve, overlap or fade out. The other transitions are normal. My project is due late this week and hope I can find a FIX in time.
I can silence the transition but it gives me a gap with NO audio.
Any advice will be appreciated. Peace, Joe Ray from the Kenai River in Alaska.

    Hi Sue,
Many thanks... It worked. You saved my project timelime and completion day. Peace, Joe Ray

  • Transitions -- Cross Dissolve: FLASH FRAME

When I insert a Cross Dissolve, 15-20% of the time there is one frame black at the end, ruining the transition. (Black flash frame).
Tried deleting transition, reapplying - no luck.
How can I be rid of this?

This is a total shot into the blue, so please be patient...
Have you looked at what all those clips that exhibit this problem may have in common? Perhaps all of them have an odd number of frames? If so, you may be onto a way to work around the problem.
If it's just the last frame, you may try to simply 'split at playhead' at the final transition frame, and delete the last frame, not the whole transition.
I know that this is annoying at best, but maybe woth a shot.
    Hope this helps,
    -ch

  • Bizzare cross-dissolve problem

I just inserted a cross-dissolve between two clips. Just as the dissolve is happening, though, I get a very brief--but very noticeable--image from the next clip in the movie where I'm also cross-dissolving!
Anyone have any ideas about how to fix this?

    Another tip James.
Shorten the incoming clip slightly - say 5 to 10 frames. Click on the tiny fine tuning icon at the bottom left of the incoming clip and drag the orange border inwards. This can be adjusted frame by frame up to 1 second. You can keep repeating this 1 second at a time - very useful for fine tuning clips.
Doing this may fix that "ghost" image problem at the start of the cross dissolve transition. Of course, apply the transition after shortening the clip.
    John

  • Cross dissolve problem again, sorry.

I spoke too soon. Using the Command T key only rewards with an alert sound. No dissolve. This has to be operator error. I am placing the cursor on the transition point but cannot add a cross dissolve.
    Best.
    Tom

Are you sure you have enough media to create the dissolve?  If you don't, you will get an audible error and you should see a pop-window with that warning (unless you selected "don't show again").
Using the "Available Media" preference requires that you have enough head/tails on both the incoming and outgoing clips for the transition.  If you use the Overlap Media preference it will use whatever media is available to create the transition--hence the reason your timeline is shrunk.
One possible work around is to go back to your preferences and set the default dissolve time to less than 1 second if all you need is a very quick dissolve.  This is just a hunch though, I haven't had a chance to try it.

  • Transitions - cross dissolve

The cross dissolves in the premiere do not appear as smooth transition - am I missing something? Are there any plugins to achieve a better result?

Thanks Jim. I am using Premiere CS5.5 on Mac. My source footage is 4k R3D. Am using Mercury Playback Engine GPU Acceleration.
I have used cross dissolve at a few cuts, used default settings for the transition. However, the transition doesn't seem smooth both in previews and after render. When I compare mine with the transitions in films and film trailers, those are much nicer, smoother. Is there some settings I need to change - or are there some third party plugins that would give better result? Thanks.

  • Transition/Cross Dissolve

OK...new to FCE, but have edited on a PC. I'm trying to put a cross dissolve between 2 pieces of video. I have successfully done it with other bits of video.
The videos are long enough, I have put the videos right next to each other ( even tried overlapping them), put the playhead where the join is, opened Effects in the Browser window, clicked and dragged down the onto the join the Cross Dissolve...but it doesn't appear to be there on the timeline. I've tired lots of different ways of doing this..but still no luck..is there some simple thing I am not doing?

  • Cross Dissolve Problems

Ive already checked some of the posts on here and dont really understand what im doing wrong.
I have clips that im trying to use the corss dissolve transition effect on but it just wont do what i want it to do. The clips have enough frames in them and there are no gaps between clips, yet when i try to use the corss dissolve it will only let me place it on an incoming clip, i cant place it on an outgoing clip and worst of all it wont let me place it between an outgoing and incoming which is what i want to do. Ive looked up HANDLES but dont understand it.
Can someone try and explain to me in laymans what im doing wrong?
Ive added an image if it helps.
    Many many thanks

The 'insufficient media' that the message is talking about is the "handles".
So... what it looks like from this shot is that you've started each of the clips in your timeline at frame 1.  If you'd start at least at frame 16 as your IN POINT then you'd have 15 frames left as 'handle' to cover the transition.  Look at the way the transition sits on your timeline.  What that is telling us is that it HAD to start on the edit because your IN COMING clip didn't have any frames PRIOR to that inpoint to us IN THE TRANSITION.
Since you set an OUT POINT on the clip... and it still had material you didn't want to use... it HAS handles to the RIGHT of the OUTPOINT and then can be used as a transition.
Imagine you put the OUTGOING CLIP on Video Track 2 and the INCOMING CLIP on Video Track 1.  You lined them up point to point.  VISUALLY you can see that there is NO WAY you are going to get a transition.
NOW... grab the left side of the OUTGOING clip and drag it to the right.  Use your PEN TOOL to change the opacitity from 100 - 0 on the part just after where the INCOMING clip starts.
    THAT's what is happening.
Now, Extend both the TOP RIGHT and the BOTTOM clip LEFT -- Use your opacity pen tool to create a fade in the ENTIRE span of the overlapping clips and you'll see what the transition is looking for.
Oh, BTW -- if you cannot extend ONE or the OTHER clips in the direction you need... "you've got INSUFFICIENT MEDIA" and need to go back to the original clip and adjust your in/out points accordingly.
    Good luck,
    CaptM

  • How do I get rid of the purple vertical bar that appears at the end when I use a default transition (cross dissolve) or dip to black?

There is a vertical purple bar that appears only when I fade out at the end. I am trying to remedy this. Please help. Thanks!
    Lila

This is Adobe Premieres of telling you that you are at the end of the sequence. If you hate it as much as we all do please send a feature request to get it removed. The bar will not be there on any exported file.

  • Added automatic transitions - pictures flash during cross-dissolve

    Hi
I added automatic transitions (cross-dissolve for .5 seconds) to my project (45 minutes). It's mostly 7-second pictures with a few movies here and there - but after watching it in iMovie, after the 5th or 6th picture, there are short blips/flashes of other previously seen pictures during the cross-dissolve transition...is this only in iMovie or if I export it will it be like this too?
    Thanks

I haven't seen this issue, but it should not be a problem when you export.
If you would like to test it without sharing your whole 45 minute movie, you can go into the project list, and DUPLICATE your project by right-clicking on the project name. Then delete all but the first 5-6 minutes from the duplicate project, and share it.

  • Bladed a clip but is not applying cross dissolve

This is a bit of an odd one?  When creating a transition between two separate clips, applying most fades etc is straightforward.  Have just created a cut in one individual clip, tried to apply the transition 'Cross Dissolve' and for some reason it won't do it.  Anyone experienced this?

Have not run into this.. Assuming cross dissolve is your default, selecting the edit point and Command-T (or double-clicking) should add a transition – continuous clip or not. (Of course, if it's just bladed and no part of the clip has been removed, you wouldn't see any effect in playback – which is why I asked the question about jump cuts.)
Perhaps someone else can add something.

  • Problem with cross dissolve transitions

I had several short interview clips that I had made into several short Imovies. I wanted to combine the interviews into one longer movie. Each short clip has an intro clip.
The problem occurs when I copy each short clip and paste into the long version. The beginning and end of each clip is clipped somewhat. I think this might be because it's making a new cross dissolve from an existing cross dissolve?
When I remove everything but the interview clip from the short movies then paste into the longer version this problem doesn't happen. Any idea why this might be happening?

If you made the short clips by export the movie with the intro there is probably no extra media available to make the overlap for the transition. Check the preferences for doing the transition if it's set to all or half. That might help you, but it may just not be possible.

  • Problem with audio overlap for cross dissolve transition

I am using FCPX v10.8 to edit 1hour long lectures.  When I edit out a short mis-speak, for example, the audio will overlap too, along with the video.  Not good.
Someone told me to try expanding the audio video and that definately helps.  But when I do additional edits, the audio tracks  keep changing to different levels (FCP7 tracks which i wish we still had) and I start running into overlap problems again so I have to keep going back and making sure I havent messed up some of the earlier ones.  Driving me nuts.  Is there any other way to edit or some other transition that will do the same as cross dissolve for the video but not audio.  There are not too many transitions that will work for one person speaking as in a lecture.  Cant fade in and out, etc.  Appreciate any help.  Urgent!  have deadlines to meet.
    thank you
    Jac

Expanding audio/video is the first step. The second step in to bring up the trim tool (T). Then you roll the audio and/or the video. The levels should be easily controlled as well with keyframes.
Other than dissolve, the video transition of choice is fade to color.
