Hulu plus on new Apple TV?

will this happen?

Why do you need a 'browser' to run apps?
My understanding is that the new Apple TV is running iOS, as such, native apps could easily (read - with minor modification) run on the platform.
Keeping Apple TV a closed environment, makes no sense. Offering developers similar API access as other iOS devices is a no-brainer. Half of what makes the iPhone/iPad/iPod Touch so great is the healthy open app/developer marketplace. This will help them compete with Internet connected TV's (and their badly implemented 'Apps').
Also, if you think about the size of a iPhone or iPad screen in your hand, compared to a TV across the room, it's the same(ish) relative size. Or maybe I need a bigger TV. Anyway, touchscreen aside (why not offer the new touchpad to get over this?), it makes sense to open Apple TV to the app market place. Then, hulu et al would be able to be easily added.
I have my fingers crossed.
To get there, I think Apple should help solve the TV problem by first doing what it does best - solving the mess of boxes and contracts associated with most peoples TV/Media setup - and presenting things in a 'usable' and attractive way.
Rather than try and make big bucks from TV show sales first - effectively strangling the product - by offering a 'solution' to people that want to cut the cord from the cable company, they would win massive loyalty and adoption. Then they'd be in a position to help us all by using the user-base leverage to negotiate with the networks and film industry.
Now that would be magical.

  • Hulu Plus Error on Apple TV

I can't watch Hulu Plus from my Apple TV.  It keeps saying, "Hulu Plus is unavailable. Try again later." I have reset my Apple TV, and I know it isn't my account with Hulu TV because I am able to watch it on my computer and iPhone.  Any suggestions?

Make sure location is set correctly and DNS is set to automatic. Also try a reboot to device and router.

  • How can I get TV shows viewed through Hulu Plus on the Apple TV 3 to show as widescreen with black bands above and below the screen shot instead of chopping off the sides on my non-widescreen TV?

I just bought a new Apple TV 3 today so I can watch shows from Hulu Plus without having to physically plug in separate audio and video cables from my Macbook Air to the TV every time. I have a non-widescreen TV and when I normally watch Hulu Plus on the TV (though Safari on my plugged in Macbook Air as mentioned above), the entire wide screen shot is shown with black bands above and below the sceen shot since I am watching a widescreen program on a non-widescreen TV.
However, I noticed that when I watch the same show through Hulu Plus on my new Apple TV 3, the left and right edges of the shot are chopped off to make the program fill my non-widescreen TV. This bothers me because I would like to see the full shot and not just the chopped off middle portion. This is a real bummber because watching Hulu Plus without having to plug in my laptop is the only reason I bought the Apple TV. Is there anything I can do about this?
    Thanks!
(FYI: I have the very first Macbook Air that is not capable of mirroring)

How are you actually connected to the TV?  Does it have HDMI?  Most non-widescreen TVs would not.
I would suspect a converter is either not outputting properly, your TV not interpreting the signal properly or you have some form of Zoom setting enabled on the TV.
How does your TV handle widescreen from say cable or terrestrial TV sources ?
Unfortunately AppleTV is not designed to be used with non-widescreen TVs so there's no setting on AppleTV to tweak.

  • Trouble with Netflix and Hulu Plus on my Apple TV

I had subscribed to Netflix on my Apple TV and then we chose to subscribe to Hulu Plus also, but then the next day we noticed that Netflix was gone and Hulu Plus replaced Netflix in the same app spot where we usually find Netflix. Is there some kind of restriction to using both at the same time or something? Please help and thank you!

No there is no restriction, you can have both or one or the other or neither.
Sounds like you removed the wrong app icon from the screen. See Apple TV: Arranging and hiding icons on the main menu ... for instructions on how to get the right icons back.

  • Hulu plus isnt on apple tv

Hulu plus is not on my apple tv. Just got it a couple weeks

Hi! I just got my Apple TV and it doesn't have Hulu Plus on it. Did you ever figure out why yours doesn't? I know it's suppose to.

  • How do I manage Hulu plus subscription on apple tv?

How do I manage subscriptions or add subscriptions using apple tv?

You would have to manage in iTunes. You can start a subscription on the device though.

  • How can I get AirPlay mirroring to fill widescreen? It works automatically for apps built for apple tv, but not Hulu Plus, for example, which letterboxes.

Airplay mirroring works great for apps (mostly video-related ones) with native Apple TV support, but for other apps - most notably Hulu Plus, it will only show letterbox on my 16:9 plasma TV. Again, my movies, tv shows and in-app videos like in CNN where there's a built-in AirPlay support will fill my widescreen, but apps that don't (Hulu Plus, games, photos) will not. Do I have to change the aspect ratio on the tv to 4:3? Will changing the resolution help.
How can I get mirroring to fill the entire tv screen, regardless of the app? Thanks.

Guys. Let's not get confused here.
-AirPlay mirroring feature 'mirrors' what's on your iPad 2 or above or your iPhone 4s on to your big TV via the Apple TV black box.
-Video apps that stream video (like native YouTube app) uses AirPlay which is different to mirroring.
-When you use the 'mirror' feature you get black bars all around (left/right & top/bottom)
-There are Games that use the full screen via the AirPlay mirroring feature and there are games that don't. It depends on the Game. For example download Asphalt 7:Heat and you'll notice you get widescreen display on the big TV but if you play Batman or Max Payne or others that don't support AirPlay mirroring then it you get black bars left and right.
-What's neat about the AirPlay mirror feature is that when you play Asphalt 7 with 'mirroring' set to on, the race is shown on the TV while your iPad shows something completely different (the route in real time with your rear view mirror)
-The Apple iPhoto app on your iPhone 4s or iPad 2/3 with AirPlay mirroring feature on you get a different experience. All of a sudden it goes full screen, and you are presented with their iPhoto logo.
-Those who have the first generation iPad don't have mirroring capabilities so the Asphalt 7:Heat games feature aren't available or the iPhoto app features. With iPad 1 you can only stream video or music or image slideshow (which all stream full screen). iPad 2 and iPad 3 can also do this but with the added benefit of 'mirorring' what is displayed on the iPad screen. Some apps take advantage of this, some don't.
There are no special setting on Apple TV to get rid of the black bars. You may be able to change the zoom settings on your actual big TV.
Hopefully this will clear this all up. I have the iPad 1 and recently upgraded to the new iPad 3. I also have an iPhone 4s. Same issues.
I don't think the AirPlay 'mirror' feature has developed fully yet. It has it's limitations but also has its advantages.

  • Apple TV2, Airplay, and Hulu Plus

My life won't change if this doesn't work, but I would at least like to know "why not" if it won't. I have updated my iPad and my Apple TV2 to the latest operating system and software. Airplay is turned on for my Apple TV.
I started a television show on Hulu Plus, double clicked the interface button on my iPad and chose Apple TV. Nothing happened. The show continued to appear only on my iPad. What have I missed?

Thanks, Chenks! I have learned after 30 years of going back and forth from newbie to oldbie again and again that it is always profitable to ask questions and not make assumptions. There have been many struggles with new Apple TV and I didn't want to just assume I couldn't do it. Have a great holiday season!

  • How do I create a new Apple ID for wife's new iPhone 6 Plus?

Our family has many Apple Devices (Mac Book Air, iMac, iPhone 6, iPad 3rd Gen. iPod 5th Gen. and as of today a new iPhone 6 Plus.  All of our Devices have always been using one Apple ID.  This has created zero issues until now.  With my wife's new iPhone 6 Plus I downloaded Find Friends and also Find My iPhone.  I can't find any way to set up her iPhone 6 Plus tied only to  her email address and cell phone number.  Whenever I open Find Friends on either device and select the appropriate email address it changes the other device to that email address for Find Friends.  I am beginning to think that now with two iPhones we will need to get my wife her own Apple ID.  When I went to Create an Apple ID using her email address it won't allow it because her email address is associated as an alternate under my Apple ID.  Reading Apple Support documents it shows using a common Apple ID for iTunes and App Store purchases but a separate Apple ID for iCloud if desired.  Bottom Line, I think I have to Delete her email address from My Apple ID Account so that I can use that email for her new Apple ID.  When I delete her email address from My Apple ID Account isn't that going to impact our shared Apps and iTunes Purchases?

No, she can use the existing AppleID for purchasing and use her own new AppleID for content syncing. If you wish to, you can set up Family Sharing and add her to your iCloud family. That will enable you to share certain resources such as calendars.

I want to update iCloud account with new apple id but don't know password for old apple id.  Plus can no longer receive email at old apple id.  How can I delete the current iCloud account on my iPhone if the previously stated conditions exist?

If the old ID is yours, and if it is an earlier version of your current ID, go to https://appleid.apple.com, click Manage my Apple ID and sign in with your current iCloud ID.  Click edit next to the primary email account, change it back to your old email address and save the change.  Then edit the name of the account to change it back to your old email address.  You can now use your current password to turn off Find My iDevice, even though it prompts you for the password for your old account ID. Then save any photo stream photos that you wish to keep to your camera roll.  When finished go to Settings>iCloud, tap Delete Account and choose Delete from My iDevice when prompted (your iCloud data will still be in iCloud).  Next, go back to https://appleid.apple.com and change your primary email address and iCloud ID name back to the way it was.  Now you can go to Settings>iCloud and sign in with your current iCloud ID and password.

  • Apple TV keeps Hulu Plus playing in background

I have a 3rd generation Apple TV, and the software is all up to date. I'm having a strange problem where the remote has stopped responding during playback, especially in the Hulu Plus app. I'll be watching a show, try and pause or rewind, and the remote won't respond. However, if I hit Menu several times, I'll eventually get the Hulu menus superimposed on the show that I'm watching. The show keeps playing continually, but eventually, I can get back to the Apple TV menu (again, with Hulu still playing and visible as the background) and reboot the Apple TV or start a show in a different app. That seems to be the only thing that will kill it. Has anyone else had this problem? I guess I can just avoid Hulu on the Apple TV...

  • Apple TV, Hulu Plus, and Factory Restore issues.

I have a Apple TV 3rd gen I believe. A couple weeks ago Hulu Plus stopped playing videos. I tried logging out and back in and when that didn't work I tried doing a Restore on the apple tv, but everytime it gets to a certain point it fails and tells me to try again. I'm at a loss of what to do. Please help.
