Hum disapears if side panel left unlocked, is this ok to leave like this?

Hi Guys,
I have an anoying hum from my MacPro, I have checked all the screws on the side panel and drive sledges are tight. The three rubber spacers at the bottom of the panel are also ok. I have also moved the disks around (I have 3).
If I leave the lock at the back open then the machine is silent. If I lock it with the panel off I get no hum. If I lock it with the panel on I get a hum (and vibration) that is driving me mad.
Do you think its ok to leave it with the lock unlocked?
Thanks for any help
Andy

My macpro did the same. if I closed the sidePanel it started making some humming noise. there are some clip-slots on the inside of the sidepanel. I think that the little hooks that go into the clips when you close it are a little loose so they may start to wibrate against the panel. What I did was to put a little tapestrips into the sidepanel slots. I also put a tape onto the inner face of the sidepanel all around the edges of it. It seams to have solved my humm. You should look at it as a possible cause of the humm. Hope it help you

  • Webdynpro page builder with side panel

    Dear all,
I have created a new page page with the webdynpro page builder and want to show also the side panel in this page.
For this I configured the side panel (always show on application start) and created also a configuration for the side panel which contains a diagram.
    1) But always when I start the page in the internet explorer NO SIDEPANEL is shown. I also don't know how user should open the side panel because there is no button.
    2) I have in my page a dashboard chip - is it possible to call side panel over navigation target?
    Thanks for your help!

  • NWBC Side Panel and SAP GUI Scripting

    Hi,
I was hoping someone might be able to clarify the SAP GUI scripting requirements for using the NWBC side panels. In the help documentation it states:
As of NWBC 3.5 patch level 6 or NWBC 4.0 and SAP GUI 7.20 patch level 13 or 7.30 final release, it is no longer necessary to enable SAP GUI Scripting on the client PC, except if you are using Property Collector. That means, it is no longer necessary to enable front-end scripting through registry key (HKLM and HKCU) for using side panels in NWBC. However, it is still necessary to install SAP GUI Scripting and to enable it for the server (at least read-only).
Some of our users are getting pop up messages that say "The scripting support is not installed"... interestingly they don't actually appear to be opening a side panel when they get this message.
I noticed that these users don't actually have SAP GUI scripting installed at all, so not that it is just not enabled, it is not installed in these cases. So does the above section from the help documentation mean that SAP GUI scripting must be installed on the client PC but it does not actually have to be enabled?
That's how I am currently reading it... but perhaps someone can clarify for me, or someone else has had a similar experience.
    Thanks,
    Simon

    Hi Simon,
As written in the documentation you quoted:

Since installing LTR 5.4, which I've now upgraded to 5.6, I've encountered repeated slowness and malfunctions in operations, especially when using the Compare View function and the Tab key to open and close the right and left side panels.  Such problems never arose during two years of using LTR-4 and nothing else has changed on my computer.  I have a pretty simple system with only a few plug-ins, which are usually not in operation.  I have 12GB of RAM in my Windows 7 PC.  I could illustrate these problems with screen shots if you would tell me how to submit screen shots.  Otherwise I will try to describe the problems in words.
The problem is clearly cumulative, growing worse as usage time passes.  Compare View feature gradually slows down and eventually seems to choke as my work session proceeds. If I Exit LTR and re-enter and start all over, things will work normally for maybe 30 minutes, but then the Compare View feature begins to become very slow to respond.   In a recent example with my screen full of thumbnails in Library mode I highlighted two images to compare. LTR started to open the Compare View screen by first having the top row of thumbnails disappear to be replaced by the "SELECT" and "CANDIDATE" words in their spaces  (but no images), but Compare View never succeeded in gaining control of the screen. After some seconds the top row of thumbnails reasserted its position and the Compare View windows disappeared. But LTR kept trying to bring them back. Again the top row of thumbnails would go away, Select and candidate would reappear, try again, and give up. This went on for at least 2-3 minutes before I tried to choose File and Exit, but even that did not initially want to respond. It doesn't like to accept other commands when it's trying to open Compare View. Finally it allowed me to exit.
To experiment I created a new catalog of 1100 images.  After 30-40 minutes, the Compare View function began to operate very slowly. With left and right side panels visible and two thumbnails highlighted, hitting Compare View can take half a minute before the two mid-size  images open in their respective SELECT and CANDIDATE windows. When the side panels are open and two images are in the Select/Candidate spaces, hitting the Tab button to close the side panels produces a very delayed response--25-30 seconds to close them, a few more seconds to enlarge the two images to full size. To reverse the process (i.e., to recall the two side panels), hitting Tab would make the two sides of the screen go black for up to a minute, with no words visible. Eventually the info fields in the panels would open up.
I also created a new user account and imported a folder of 160 images. After half an hour Compare View began mis-placing data.  (I have a screen shot to show this.)  CANDIDATE appears on the left side of SELECT, whereas it should be on the right. The accompanying camera exposure data appears almost entirely to the left of the mid-screen dividing line. Although the Candidate and Select headings were transposed, the image exposure data was not, but the data for the image on the right was almost entirely to the left of the line dividing the screen in two.
Gurus in The Lightroom Forum have examined Task Manager data showing Processes running and Performance indicators and they see nothing wrong.  I could also send screen shots of this data.
At this point, the only way I can process my images is to work 30-40 minutes and then shut down everything, exit, and re-start LTR.  This is not normal.  I hope you can find the cause, and then the solution.  If you would like to see my screen shots, tell me how to submit them.

  • Help with left side panel area in lightroom 5

I am having trouble with left side panel  in, library - lightroom 5. I don't seem to be able to open more than one area at a time. ie: if I open catalog and then try to open folder..catalog will close. I have also noticed that the little triangle that I click on to open and close an area is not a solid triangle but is kind of dotted. Have I done something to change the settings or something? I want to set up a new collection but I can't open both folder and collection at the sametime. HELP!

Right click next to one of the headers and a popup will let you change how the panel is displayed. See screen capture.

  • Bookmarks in side panel closed unable to re-open

somehow my bookmarks in the side panel disappeared. There are absolutely no options to re-acquire them.

    Hi Gallienus,
Try hitting ''CTRL + B''. This will display your bookmarks in the sidebar temporarily. If you want to permanently put your bookmarks in the sidebar, you should take a look at [https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/how-do-i-customize-toolbars this article on customizing the toolbar]. It will show you how you can add new toolbar buttons. There is a bookmark icon available that will open your bookmarks in the sidebar. It looks similar to the other bookmark icon, but it has as small bar on the left side.
    Hopefully this helps!

  • How to Get Side-Panel is Gnome 3 ?

i installed gnome 3 but something is lacking :-/ side-panel , it comes in some additional package ?

Gnome has its own words for describing the UI elements. Please look at the pictures on the gnome help page and report back what exactly is missing.
Also use the words from the help page to describe it.
If you want to have a permanently visible dash on the left, you need modifications, as it is not included in gnome per default.

  • Help! Can't open side panel of power mac G4! I need in there!

Hi, I just bought a powermac G4 for my retired parents and they need to hit the reset button but can't open the side panel to get in. They have tried moving the lockable cover latch and pulling the side handle but it seems to be jammed. Any suggestions. They live 400 miles away in Scotland so I can't try anything myself. Heellllppp!
    Any assistance most appreciated,
    Max

Well, no one else has replied, so I'll make a suggestion.
Place the left side of the G4 on the floor. Now push down quite hard on the top (right side) panel near the pull-up lever with one hand while pulling up on the lever. Hopefully the side panel will release.

  • Anyone understand this strange LR3 side panel behaviour?

In the last couple of days my laptop has developed a piece of strange behaviour related to the side panels.  I'm pretty sure it didn't start when I installed the LR3.5 update, but this may have been a contributing factor.
Until recently I always worked in "solo" mode.  A couple of days ago, LR's behaviour changed so that opening or closing any of the side panels would cause the relevant side (left or right) to become totally unresponsive.  The rest of the program continued to work fine, and the equivalent side panel in other modules continued to work properly until a panel was opened or closed.
In an attempt to understand what was going on, I turned "solo" mode off.  This led to some very interesting behaviour indeed:
If I used the triangle to open or close a side panel, everything worked exactly as expected.
If I clicked on the dark grey bar to open or close a side panel, it became stuck in one of the two states.
When stuck in "open" state, clicking in the grey area simply caused the panel to close and then re-open, very rapidly.
When stuck in "closed" state, something similar happened in that the panel opened and then re-closed, very rapidly.
When in "stuck" state, clicking on the triangle had no effect on the displayed panel but it seemed to toggle the internal state between opened and closed.
Once toggled, clicking on the grey bar opened the panel where it used to close it, and vice versa.
When collapsed, the panel displays as pale grey rather than the more usual dark grey.  See below for an illustration.
I have a desktop machine as well which doesn't show the behaviour.  I've tried reinstalling LR3.5, to no avail.  My guess is that we're dealing with inconsistent panel state information in the "preferences" file, but I don't know for sure.
If anyone knows what is happening, or (more importantly) how to stop it happening, I'd be enormously grateful for some help.
    Many thanks in advance,
    Ian Wilson
    Cambridge UK

Further investigation yielded yet more interesting behaviour - and, it turns out, a pointer to the problem.
I tried renaming the old "preferences" file, causing LR to create a new one.  The problem was unchanged, apart from losing my registration information...
I tried creating a new, virgin catalogue.  This behaved normally, so I thought I was onto something!
I tried importing a folder of pictures into the new catalogue.  The old behaviour returned.
I created a new virgin catalogue, which reverted to good behaviour.  I then imported one picture into the catalogue.  Behaviour BAD.
I then tried removing the single picture from the catalogue and restarted LR.  Behaviour GOOD!
Conclusion:  Lightroom works just fine for me providing I never put any pictures into my catalogue!!
This got me thinking that, perhaps, the issue was related to the rendering of images.  I tried installing the latest nVidia drivers for my laptop, but this had no effect whatsoever.  Given the issue clearly related to how images are rendered, however, I wondered whether the problem could relate to colour profiles.  BINGO!!  I'd recently upgraded my "i1xtreme" to X-Rite's new "i1publish".  The profiles created with the latest software are ".icm" rather than ".icc", although this shouldn't matter (and doesn't matter to PS and Bridge).  It seems to matter to LR, however, as reverting to my earlier ".icc" profiles made everything work again just fine.
There is obviously a bug somewhere, but it's not clear whether I should be chasing Adobe or X-Rite.  I'd welcome any comments or advice...
    Many thanks for the suggestions,
    Ian.

  • Hidden right side panels don't trigger correctly in Lion

Since upgrading to Lion, the right side panels of my workspace don't trigger correctly while they are hidden (by pressing Tab). In previous OS X cats, pushing the mouse to the far right edge of the screen would trigger the panels to appear (until the mouse moves away from them). The same, of course, was true for the tools panel on the left edge, and it still is. Now, in Lion, the right side panels reappear only if the cursor hovers a few pixels shy of the extreme right edge. Going all the way to the right edge does nothing. I've checked this with three different screen resolutions on my NEC PA271W display. I'll end up submitting this as a bug, but would like to see if anyone else can confirm it first.

Rick, here as well, the enginers or other users might need more pointers to be able to replicate your issues.
Are you running Ps 12.0.4? Is Lion up to date? are you using the application frame? Is Photoshop maximized? is it the case in all screen modes (when you cycle with the F key?)
Did you try to reset Photoshop's workspace, or Preferences?

  • Please make it harder to lose the side panels

    Am I alone in this?
Countless times I go to click on the scroll bar (left or right, doesn't matter) and instead I accidentally move the mouse "just a little too far" and click to hide the panel instead of clicking the scroll bar.
The thing is, it wastes valuable time having to then go and unhide the panel and return back to what I was doing.
Could we either make the scroll bar slightly wider (making it easier for me to "get it right") or perhaps have an option to only hide the panels by keystroke instead of by clicking on them? I do like to hide the panels ... but it's extremely rare because I need the panels there while I'm in the develop module in order to access presets or develop settings.
Maybe in the develop module turn off the ability to hide the panels? (or, again, make it an option to do so)
It would sure save me a lot of aggravation.

    >@Ian Lyons: I can't drag the panels but the scroll-wheel on my mouse works fine...far better than it did in LR1.
Agree--when LR is on the main display, but the scroll wheel does NOT work for scrolling the panels when LR is on the 2nd display. I don't know if this is intentional or an oversight or just a situation I experience, but I have experienced it with all versions of LR and in both XP and Vista.
Note that the scrolling of the side panels isn't the only thing that doesn't work properly with the scroll wheel when LR is on the 2nd display--the thumbnail panel doesn't scroll when on the 2nd display, either. However, using the scroll wheel to adjust brush sizes works fine on either display as does scrolling the thumbnails in the Grid view.

Sorry, but you're talking to another user here. How do you expect me to get rid of it?
BUT having said that, I can tell you how to get rid of it showing up, but not get rid of the "functionality" ... which is ALWAYS going to be there.
To get rid of it showing up, just tap the book icon on the top left of the Safari window.
