HUM/Vibration Problem Solved and it was EASY..

My Brand New MP came with 1HD and I installed 3 more. Much to my surprise, the MP sounded like an airplane with a lop-sided propeller when it started up.
I opened the side panel and removed all 4 drives from their bay's.
After looking inside to figure out what the culprit could be... I noticed the horizontal plastic surface above the front fan was very thin. HD #1 sits directly above this thin plastic surface. This looked to me like a plausable cause for vibration.
I used a 3.5 inch length of 1/2 inch 3M Brand double sided foam tape and placed it on top of the thin plastic fan top surface. I did not remove the protection layer on the double sided tape, rendering it a single sided foam strip.
I then put all drives back in their proper bays and closed up the MP. Since then the MP has been as quiet as a church mouse......

Hi Knype,
have the preinstalled WD 250GB and three Seagate 320GB.
No issues and/or slowdowns (not that I really depend on speed).
Got the Seagates because they were cheap (83 Euros/per piece).

Hello ymprice91277, let's solve this mystery! To unlink the Facebook contacts go to Settings, Facebook, turn off contacts.

    Hello,
My phone is not working at all. I had this problem before and I was trying to find a solution. However, at Apple Store in UK I was told to send my phone to Canada due to fact that I bought it there. What should I do and who will cover all my payments for a mail?
    Thank you!

The iphone warranty is not international. It is based from the original country of purchase. You will need to ship to someone you know in the Canada to bring it to Apple for evaluation. Then that person will have to ship the phone back to you. Shipping and insurance will be at your expense. In the terms of the iphone warranty:

    IMPORTANT RESTRICTION
Apple may restrict warranty service to the country where Apple or its Authorized Distributors
    originally sold the Apple Product.

  • Camileo charging problem (solved) and a general question!

    Hi all!
First of all, I was going to ask for help as to why the Camileo S10 was not charging (the orange light wasn't flashing), and I'd seen a few people with similar problems.
    The solution?
Give the contacts on the battery a clean.
The insulation sticker that comes on it must leave some kind of residue on it, and it's enough to prevent charging. Now it's flashing away happily :]
So my general question was, is it possible/advisable to use the camera on the mains?
Rather than constantly draining and charging the battery during long shoots, I'd prefer to just leave it plugged in!
    Thanks very much in advance!
    Paul

    Hi
I think the battery handling is always the same no matter what product it is
From time to time the battery should be recalibrated.
This means that the battery should be discharged fully and after then you should charge it again until the battery would reach 100%
I do this with all my batteries; mobile phone battery, digi cam battery and notebook battery.

  • 24" iMac humming noise "Problem Solved"

    Hello,
I reinstalled Mac OS X 10.5.6 Combo Update and the annoying humming sound coming from my iMac is gone,I have read alot of people were having the same problem with the Aluminum 24" model.

I'm having the same thing with my 2008 24 inch iMac. I'm not sure if it is the hard drive or one of the fans, but there is a loud WHOOSH every time it starts up or wakes from sleep and the whirring noise is pretty much constant. It used to be completely silent, so this new sound is very noticeable.
Lately, the noise with abruptly stop and then make a struggling sound as if whatever is causing it is either going away or making it stop revolving or whatever (it would help if I could determine exactly WHAT is making the noise). I check iStat, but can't see any wide variance in the fans rpm speeds when it is happening or the heat of various components spiking. It is not affecting my computer use as it did the first time I had a similar problem (which turned out to the the hard drive, since replaced under warranty).
I bought Apple Care for this computer, so it is still covered under that, but I don't know if the fact that the noise is completely annoying to listen to all day is enough reason to bring it in for service and be covered under the extended warranty.

  • Fans intermittently run @ full speed - problem solved - wireless card was culprit

I hope this helps someone in the future with this odd problem, that I see is rare but not unknown.
I have a P7-1222 which from new, would on about 1 in 10 powerups (i.e., random) have both CPU and case fans running full speed (several thousand RPM) making the machine very loud.  They would reset to more normal speeds of ~ 1000 on a cold or hot reset.
TMPIN1 at time this occurred at powerup would, via HWMONITOR or SIW, show 99C (which was impossible), making the fans race.
Two motherboard replacements, PS substitution, CPU swap etc. did nothing.   The intermittent problem persisted.
Now the culprit has been identified.  I replaced the wireless LAN/Bluetooth combo PCI mini card with an identical unit from eBay (in this machine, an HP COMPAQ 615939-001 652279-001 WIRELESS N BLUETOOTH COMBO WLAN MINICARD).  The problem of intermittent fan racing is now gone.
The wireless card in the machine seems to have been the culprit, perhaps occasionally sending a noise spike on powerup as it initialized onto the bus, thus affecting the Fintek F71858 LPCIO  TMPIN1 reading  and making it 99C, causing fans to race via BIOS thinking the machine was burning up!
Doing some investigating, I had found the following in the Data Sheet for the Fintek F71858 LPCIO chip ("Hardware KBC with ACPI, Temp. and Fan Control") used on numerous HP/Pegatron motherboards, including the Carmel/Carmel2 and other HP boards that use the same basic circuit layout:
    =======================
    8. PCB Layout Guide
F71858 adopts Current Mode measure method to do temperature detected. The measure data will not be affected by different process of CPU due to use current mode technology. This technology measures mini-voltage from the remote sensor so a good PCB layout must be cared about noise minimizing. The noises often come from circuit trace which is a track from remote sensor (CPU side) to detect circuit input (F71858 side). The signal on this track will be inducted mini-noises when it passes through a high electromagnetic area. Those effects will result in the mini-noises and show in the detected side. It will be reported a wrong data which you want to measure. Please pay attention and follow up the check list below in order to get an actual and real temperature inside the chip.
... Place the F71858 as close as practical to the remote sensor diode. In noisy environments, such as a computer main-board, the distance can be 4 to 8 inches. (typ). This length can be increased if the worst noise sources are avoided.
Noise sources generally include clock generators, CRTs, memory buses and PCI/ISA bus etc
    =======================
And defective wireless cards can be a noise source too, it seems.

The issue was what I expected.  I picked a new reader last night and everything works fine.   My old card reader just didn't work with the new card.

  • Forum search problem[Solved] and search for Homer[NOT Solved]

While trying to find a thread where someone was trying to track down the archlinux homer release iso, I found out that any search term with the word install doesn't work. It just goes to a blank screen.
That said, does anyone know where I can get an iso of homer, or where that forum thread went?

Ah, ok, thank you! I tried a search for "linux", expecting that to have one of the most hits, and it does the same thing.

Same here.... No fix. Replacing is the option apparently and if you're out of warranty, you're SOL. That was as per the "Genius" at Apple.

Yes, the iPhone 5S is a global phone. However, Sprint will only unlock phones for use on GSM networks outside of the U.S. In the U.S., that phone can only be used on Sprint's network.

  • [nForce] Lets solve this 1394 problem once and for all.

    Hi guys,
For the past 3months I have been trying to connect my Panasonic GS150 to my comuter in order to use Avid dvxpress pro. I have the problem of when I connect the camera to the computer, nothing happens. I also have this problem with my Ipod, however testing various different devices with the computer produces a strange outcome. Various different cameras work, xp pops up witha found new hardware device (like it should). Its very strange.
I started to think it was my system. I changed my onboard firewire to a pci card, same solution. So then, i reinstalled windows, same outcome. So i bought a new motherboard nforce2 platinum and to my total amazment, same problem. If was after i had totally failed in finding the solution that i started to look elsewhere on the net for anyone who knows the answer. It seems to be a VIA firewire chipset problem. Every post of people who had similiar problems where looking for the answer but NOONE has solved it, ive come across about 1000 posts with no reply's. Its a problem that thousands have but not many people ever use ther're firewire ports so they dont they've got the problem.
I really dont know what the problem is anymore, is it windows, is it certain 1394 devices, or is it the Via chipset. I havent a clue, so if anyone wants to attempt to solve this problem once and forall they will be the hero of about 3000 potential customers...
    Anyone?
    Jon.

Yes thats correct.   Regardless of the hardware, and various 1394 devices are recognised. I've bought a 4pin to 4pin cable which i will test with different devices to see if they are consistent with a 6pin to 4pin cable, it may be a power issue. Not sure what chip on pci card, heres the info from website.
    - Three external 6-pin FireWire ports
    - Interoperable with existing, as well as older, 1394 consumer electronics and peripheral products
    - Complies with OHCI requirements
    - Compliant with IEEE 1394a-2000 standard
    - Isochronous transfer support (guaranteed bandwidth) for DV video data transfer from Camcorder to PC
    - Provides three fully compliant cable ports, each supporting 400Mbits/sec, 200Mbits/sec and 100Mbits/sec traffic
    - Plug and Play & Hot-Swappable for all ports
    - Power overload and protection failure on each port
    - PCI bus master with PCI 2.2 Bus specification

what do i do after downloading iOS 3.1 software and "There was a problem downloading iOS 3.1.1 software update for ipod touch. an unknown error occurred (8288). Please check that the connection to the network is active and try again." comes up?

Hello, I hope by now you have resolved the upgrade issue, but if not, here is what I ended up having to do:
“SUCCESS!!! I took my iPod to a friend who is a computer programmer/genius. He turned off his wireless, hooked the ethernet cable directly into his computer, and the download went through without a hitch. YAY!”
Here is my original post explaining what I had already tried:
    “Hi all,
I got an iPod Touch 1st gen for my youngest son for Christmas as a starter. It has the 2.1.2 ios on it, but after I paid for the upgrade to 3.1.1, I keep getting an error message (8288) saying there was a problem with the network connection. I have called customer service, and they suggested I try on a different computer, and if that didn't work, try connecting to a different network, and then trying the update. None of this has worked. It seems that tech support is clueless with this issue.
I have installed and unistalled iTunes 10.5, 10.3, 10.4, and now I am back with 10.5. I have tried looking up the issue from several search engines but no one seems to have a universal solution and I have tried several.
I really want to have this thing updated for himw hwne he opens it, but I am starting to worry that my purchase was a bust. I know this is the oldest version, but I don't want to buy a newer, more expensive iPod and him still not be mature enough to really take care of it. As I said, this one is a starter.
    Can anyone help? Please?!
    Thank you!!!
P.S. We have a PC, with Windows XP Home.”
Now, there seem to be a lot of different ways to solve the 8288 error, none of which are universal. Best of luck getting yours upgraded!
    Tiffany
P.S. The post by Sparkhi is a link to his blog going into a long story about how he wanted Apple to pay him for “solving” the issue….the one that apparently has been solved by multiple solutions. I’m not trying to bash, it just bothers me that he put up this whole story and finally, at the very end of his blog post, posts his solution.

If Apple's service database says that your iPhone was replaced, then Apple will no longer provide any service for that phone.
First, get a new SIM from your cell carrier and see if that corrects the problem. If it does not, try the usual steps for addressing software problems: restart, reset, restore.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1430
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1414
If you try restoring from a backup and that doesn't fix the problem, try restoring to factory settings and, if the problem goes away, then sync back your apps and content. You'll lose the app data and settings, but if the problem is due to a corrupt cache or settings file, restoring to factory settings should cure it.
If none of that helps, your device may have developed a hardware fault. Again, Apple will provide no service for it, so you will need to pay some independent repair shop to fix your iPhone.
    Regards.

I have found that I can reactivate the SIM by switching the phone off and on again. Has anyone else experienced this problem and if so, is there an easy fix. I have been advised by Apple that the latest IOS update may overcome this situation but I'm only on slow download speeds and 690 Mb would take forever. I would appreciate any advice.
