Humble Suggestions to Lenovo

1.) I suggest that Lenovo offer 2 choices of keyboard with the W540: one with a numberpad, one without. On a 15-Inch Laptop, this is a hard call; some people will like each, given the aps they use. Personally, I like the feel of the newer Thinkpad keyboards, but it was too much of a transition to expect seasoned Thinkpad customers to adjust both a change in keyboard type AND layout. Some people will not feel comfortable ergonomically using a latop off-center, while others will.
2.) I sugest that Lenovo abandon buttonless trackpads for Windows/Linux based computers. Where has a customer written that they like the buttonless trackpads? The hardware buttons need not be large, but they should be real buttons. A click pad will always take more force to operate than a button-because the tactile switch under it can be made softer because it has to hold less weight. Yes, Macs have a clickpad, but remember that the Mac user interface was designed without a contextual click. If you copy a Mac, people will want a real one--instead!
(On my x220, I have used the click feature less than 10 times, since I have owned it. The upper pointer buttons are easier to use than the than the clickpad.)
3.) If possible, on battery, it would be better to disable cores than throttle down the clock speed. Certain CAD operations such as trimming and certain processes such as meshing can only be done with a single core. Many programs are lightly multi-threaded, so on battery I would rather have a dual or single at 2.7Ghz, than a Quad at 1 Ghz.
4.) Audio is part of what I do with my computers; I want a real audio line-input jack.
5.) There should be an option for a IPS/PLS 1920x1080 screen on the W540. We still don't have perfect GUI graphics scaling. Personally, there is no going back to a TN panel in a portable computer.
6.) Choosing the M2 over Msata was a bad deal for the customer. We just got 1TB Msata SSDs, and now we can't use them?
7.) I think it brings more negative PR to keep changing the docking station with every generation. What IT person wants a whole pile of old docking stations in their cublical?
8.) Not making the new hard drive rails availible to customers will only serve to anger them.
9.) A status-light widget would have eased customers concern over the lack of LED hardware indicators.
10.) It's baffling why the W540 cannot be ordered with a reaonably priced 1TB ssd.
11.) Looking at the W540 page, it's not clear if I could order a W540 with a DVD drive, and a get an drivebay HD case in the box, too.
Other thoughts....
A 14 inch laptop is the new 15" laptop. A 15 inch laptop is the new 17 inch.(TM)(C) 2014 BrendaEM.
The T440p would have been more popular without a DVD drive, and with a little smaller case. Some people need a GPU, for Adobe aps, ect., but rarely need the drive anymore. If we can't get a Blu-Ray, and don't have to worry about HDCP, then a drive can be USB corded. If I could get a T440p with a K2100, I would get it instead of the 15.
I wish the Yoga was even a bit faster than this 3 year old i5 x220. A 16GB option on the Thinkpad Yoga would have eased my future-proofing fears.
People don't know how to tell you that they don't want PVC covered cords on their personal electonics. They just know they feel better. My computer bag wants a shorter thick cord, and a longer thin one.
A Yoga screened W540 could do almost any graphic task, but it would be a nitch computer.
A battery manager should not take seconds to start.

  • Fixed - bent connector - S12 ION poor wireless performance - Lenovo support no help

    Hi forum,
I received my Thanksgiving deal S12 ION last week.  The size and format are perfect, the overall performance just what it needs to be, but the wireless performance is unacceptable.  I work for IBM, and have a T60P work laptop and two Y430 laptops, all of which have perfect full bars of wireless signal throughout my house.  But this S12 ION has only three bars in my office next to the wireless G router, and only one to two bars in the next room.  From any other room in the house I cannot connect.
I verified that I have the most recent wireless drivers installed.  The ones it shipped with are the most recent on the Lenovo support site.
I called Lenovo technical support.  After waiting on hold, I was connected, then dropped after another 30 minute on hold.  The second time I called in, I was told I needed to turn on the wireless using the switch.  I informed the tech that I was already connected and that the issue was poor signal.  He then suggested removing Lenovo readycomm, but that is not installed on this S12.  Finally he told me that this is just a netbook, not a laptop and that if I do not like it I should return it.
I am so angry with this poor support I would return it immediately, if it were not for the 15% return fee.
Does anyone else have wireless issues?  Am I mistaken about this being a nice wireless connectivity tool?
At the price I paid, $399, I can dump this on eBay, but I am seriously disappointed.
    Solved!

    Hi Forum,
I opened the wireless card slot after reading in other netbook forums that some have had loose antenna connectors. At first I thought that was what I had as one of the leads, the black one, was not seated. It turns out that the connector on the wireless card was bent open.
    See pics:

I bent the ring connector closed, reattached the antenna lead, and now I have great signal. Thought you would be interested in the pics.
I am going to call Lenovo and ask them to replace the wireless card, as there is no guarantee the connector is not damaged, but it is working fine for now.

  • After Win 8.1 update - Lenovo System Update defective (doesn't find updates any more)

Lenovo System Update tells me that all is up to date!
I searched at Lenovo for new drivers for windows 8.1
They asked me exactly what notebook I use. For the x1 carbone 3460-4LG (checked 3 times because I couldn't believe it) they discribed my computer as:
    i7-3667U(3.2GHz), 4GB RAM, 256GB Solid State Drive, 14in 1600x900 LCD, Intel HD Graphics, Intel 802.11agn wireless, WWAN, 1Gb Ethernet, UltraNav, Secure Chip, 4c Li-Ion, Win8 Pro 64.
My notebook has 8GB RAM, 180GB SSD and (as I believe) no carbone x1 has 1GB Ethernet, because it has no network connector at all!
So first question: can I believe the suggestions of lenovo for new drivers?
There are several drivers released in October 2013 that I surely do not have already installed.
That means, Lenovo System Update doesn't work any more, without error message!
Question two: Has Lenovo a solution to repair their defective updater? Or will they release a solution?
    Very disappointed regards.
    Alex

Another Workaroung wich could help is the Tool DriverEasy. It does scan yours system and shows you all missing Driver. The missing driver can be downloaded or directly installed.
For me it found every missing Driver on different Lenovo Modells. The only thing to use it as Full Service, is you have to buy it for i think about 30 $.

  • Introduce a keyboard with built in numeric keypad option on the W500 Lenovo!!

Ok, so this is not so much of a question as suggestion to Lenovo and call for any who think its a good idea to ad your support in appealing to Lenovo to offer it.
There are a number of competitors out there who make 15.x inch laptops and provide a numeric keypad on the keyboard. I do a lot of entering of numbers (and I suspect do a significant proportion of other potential W500 buyers) and not having a numeric keypad is a real limitation. Separate USB keypads don't really fix the problem because they don't offer the convenience and ergonomics of having it on the keyboard. Given the fact that it is aimed at true power users who can justify its cost, it should also offer the option of the keypad. I know this would mean a redesign but I believe there is enough room there (there may need to be some resizing of the current keys to fit it in but for those who crunch a lot of number its would be worth it. Given that many of the competitors who offer less capable machines can successfully fit the numeric keypad on a 15 inch machine then Lenovo should be able to do it without stuffing up the integrity/userbility if the current keyboard.
    Anyone agree?

The laptops my employer provides (probook 6550b & elitebook 8560's) have numeric keypads. What I dislike about the keyboards with them is how off-center the keyboard, track pad and touch pad are. Haveing the keybpard centered is much better for true mobile work. A number pad sounds nice, and If I were an accountant, CPA or someone that works with numbers a great deal, it coul dbe a desireable feature. (or get an external number pad if that important.) Overll, I like the placement of lenovo's keyboard and other keys much better than what HP has done.

  • Lenovo T530: Photoshop CC 2014.2 can't detect Nvidia card (340.84)

    I have up-to date Windows 7 x64 SP1 ENG version of windows.
Here is some screens to illustrate the problem
The problem poped up 2 or 3 revisions of Nvidia driver ago with original version of Photoshop CC 2014. As you can see updating program and video card drivers to date, do nothing. And yes, i tried to launch PS with mouse context menu and forcing to use Nvidia chip. In control panel of video card PS is assosiated with Nvidia card too.
These glitchy computers drives me crazy, maybe this is why i quit IT...
    Any suggestions?

    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    I've found solution by myself.
When launching PS i've noticed, that GPU activity icon in system tray shows up weird process: sniffer.exe, instead of prospective PS. It seems, that this file somehow interfere with a whole system. Sucker located here:
    C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CC 2014\sniffer.exe
You can rename or even delete it (without aftermath), then launch PS. After this weird manipulation software will recognize Nvidia chip, but you have to wait additional 5-7 seconds in a stucking freeze.
Same delays awaits you when you try to launch external plugins, which are using GPU acceleration.
So, all these actions, is a half measure. I am sit tight on PS 2014.2 and rolling back to old Nvidia drivers 333.11 (all revisions between 333.111 and 340.84 have the same problems, or it is glitchy Adobe?)

  • Fingerprint reader on Lenovo KUF0452 keyboard not working with Lenovo X240

    Hi,
I have a Lenovo KUF0452 keyboard with built-in fingerprint reader. Up until a month ago I had a Lenovo X220 laptop which co-existed happily with the keyboard - I could unlock Windows with a swipe of the keyboard's fingerprint reader.
I've now replaced the X220 with an X240 and can no longer unlock Windows using the keyboard's fingerprint reader - I just get this error on the Windows lock screen:
A match for the fingerprint was not found in the fingerprint database.
I have Lenovo Fingerprint Manager Pro v8.01.35(x64) installed and have used it to enroll a couple of fingerprints for the X240's fingerprint scanner, but when I try to use it to enroll fingerprints for the keyboard's scanner the app's progress bar doesn't move off 0%, so I assume the app isn't accepting the keyboard's fingerprint scanner as a valid input.
The X240 is docked, with the lid shut, so I have no easy access to the laptop's fingerprint scanner which is why I want to use the keyboard's fingerprint scanner to unlock Windows.
How can I get the keyboard's fingerprint scanner to work with my X240?
    Kind regards,
    /Neil

    hi jenniby,
    Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!
I believe it is the Lenovo B570 you're saying,
    Try doing a power drain,
Remove AC adapter and Battery, then hold down the power button for at least 15 sec. this will drain off the power from the MOBO.
Reconnect everything and see if that works,
Also try using an external Keyboard to test out the Windows.
If that did not work I suggest Calling Lenovo Technical support for Hardware Concern.
    Regards

  • Lenovo G50-30

Hi fellow Lenovo Users. I have recently upgraded to Windows 10 from Windows 8.1. YAY! However this process would have been made easier if I hadn't had to format the drive to recover a blank install of Windows 8.1 then get the upgrade to wipe clean the hard drive itself before upgrading. The reason for this was that the upgrade had failed an inumerable amount of time before I went medieval IT on it. Rant over. Other than that I'm enjoying Windows 10. I have one issue in regards to Windows 10 having cleaning my hard drive, I'm missing a couple of pieces of Lenovo software such as the Energy Manager and OneKey Recovery. Anyone have any idea on where I can find these beautiful peices of kit????

    ToraxOutlaw wrote:
Ive had a search through the forums and the website and I can only seem to find the OneKey recovery software and Energy Manager for various other laptops apart from my make an model. I haven't been able to resolve the Airplone Mode button not working either.
Just an FYI - this is a Forum where users collaborate to resolve issues in their free time, not to be confused with official Lenovo support services.
From what I understand of your posting, you had performed a "clean install" and formated the drive for use with Windows 8.1 before upgrading to Windows 10.
This is why your OKR and recovery partition are not working correctly - they only work when the OS is intact from the factory installation, including all links to the hidden partition.  Performing a clean install breaks this, and there is not way to restore it short of ordering recovery software (DVD's) from Lenovo or taking your notebook to a service center to have it re-imaged.
I would suggest contacting Lenovo Support by phone as soon as possible to determin if you are still under warranty and discuss options.  They may have more information and resources at their disposal than what is made public on the web.
    Good luck.

  • Lenovo G500 Graphic card problem

    Hello
I have bought brand new Lenovo G500 (Intel(R) Pentium(R) CPU 2020M @ 2.40 GHz 2.40 AMD Radeon HD8570mGHz 8GB Ram) without system in it. I installed Windows 7 Ultimate here, and I cant install graphic card.
I downloaded AMD drivers and when I turn on my notebook again, in manager graphic card  is off, because of error 43.
Can I ask for fast reply ? I'm keep fighting with it 2 days in row.

Does the computer feel overly warm when the errors occur? If so the Video Card may be overheating, or have a hardware issue. If your notebook is under warranty - would suggest contacting Lenovo Support directly for service.

  • Replaced Lenovo Motherboard- now Serial # and Model are Invalid in the BIOS

Greetings I recently replaced the MB in my K450 Desk Top-- (second time I had to replace it, first time was under warranty) I found an actual Lenovo branded replacement board spec'd for my machine, put it in, and it works flawlessly except... The problem is the BIOS reporting Serial # and Model as "INVALID". How can I update these values ?? The computer works fine with the exception of Office 365 asking me to (re) activate the software and I get 2 error beeps when booting up and a message about the model and serial.. I searched the American Megatrends site for help on this topic, but didn't find many solutions other than to re-flash the BIOS but even that wasn't clear whether I could update those values.. Any advice, suggestions ?

Lenovo generally accepts it, I don't see why they wouldn't...what type of a warranty do you have on this machine?
BTW, when you press F1 and enter BIOS, it's all there: somewhere in the very middle of the screen there's a row beginning with your machine type (say 7675CTO) and the next set of figures (no space in between)in the same row is your actual serial number.
    Hope this helps.

  • Lenovo Y40-80 Question

I was looking for a new laptop (details in my other post, I had my eye on the lenovo Y40-80 because it seems to have good specs for a good cost but I don't know what to do because some reviews say it's great (and I personally love the faux carbon fiber look) but other reviews say it's an absolute dissapointment due to graphics issues and other things.  If you own one an opinion would be helpful, also I would like to know the average battery life, apparently iy's really good.

We don't carry this unit in our selection  so unfortunately cannot provide too much detail on this. I'd suggest checking Lenovo's site or forums directly

  • Rant: Anyone else find the Lenovo parts site offensively difficult to use and useless?

I just tried to find a part on the Lenovo website, and found it to be just about as bad an on-line experience as one could imagine.  Without a doubt, the worst example of e-commerce I have ever experienced.  My situation: I know what FRU I need. So first, the site makes it impossible to look up directly. Why?  Why, if I know a part number, does Lenovo make it hard to buy that part directly?
Ok, you play the cares your dealth.  So I played by their rules.  I tried to look up my model as requested.  First, I filled out the asked-for model number (on http://shop.lenovo.com/SEUILibrary/controller/e/web/LenovoPortal/en_US/catalog.workflow:show-categor... But entering the number doesn't do anything!   Hmmm.  There is also a spot for me to "select my product".  This is  a pull-down list with 100s of items long - literally every Lenovo products ever - that is NOT ORGANIZED IN ANY WAY.  Are these people crazy?  Do they value my time so little, or customer satisfaction so little, that they don't care if their site wastes my time and I can't get the product I need?  Then more fun.  After putting in my model number and actually finding "W530" in a random list of dozens of thinkpad laptops, the site threw an error.  It explained to me that I must have entered a number wrong.  I've managed SW products, and this is unacceptable.  The customer should never, ever, be allowed to enter anything close to something that is not recognized.
I've gotten good service when I 've called in.  But based on this site alone, I'd never buy another Lenovo product again.  And I'd recommend the same to others.  I'm going on a rant to several forums about this, as well.  Seriously, the worst website I've ever used is ... from a computer company?  Really?  A parts site, which you may be calling under extreme stress, does nothing but add more stress and frustration?
The W530 may be my last Lenovo.  Which bums me out: I love the machine.
Smart people will recognize that i wrote this to vent, yes, but also to suggest to Lenovo that they have a significant opportunity for improving a competitive disadvantage and making it an advantage.

  • Did Lenovo cripple my processor to fix an overheating problem? Screenshots included.

I have an X61s which was suffering from a hot right palmrest and an overheating issue where the system would shut itself off after a few minutes of high CPU load. I sent the system in for depot repair. According to one of the Lenovo techs I spoke with today, they replaced the wireless card (known source of right palmrest heat) and a fan - but I'm beginning to think that's not all they did to solve the overheating problem, at least as far as it pertained to the CPU and the system shutting off.
The CPU is a 1.6GHz processor. After the system was returned to me, I sensed that it was running slower than before. I performed a test using Orthos and the Intel Thermal Analysis Tool to monitor CPU frequency. Sure enough, as the attached image shows, even with the Power Profile set at High performance, the processor was maxing out at 1200MHz under full load, 75% of it's 1600MHz maximum.
    Screenshot
I installed RightMark CPU Clock Utility, which includes a CPU frequency monitoring function. It too reported the CPU frequency at 1200MHz. HOWEVER, when I changed the RightMark profile to Maximal Performance, the CPU frequency did hit 1600MHz as shown by RightMark's monitor and Intel's Thermal Analysis Tool. Suspecting maybe this was just a reporting error and my CPU was actually running at 1600MHz despite Intel's tool saying 1200MHz, I tested each with Prime95's benchmark function.
CPU Benchmark without RightMark (1.2GHz) - 1792K FFT length best time = 65.751
CPU Benchmark with RightMark (1.6GHZ) - 1792K FFT length best time = 106.146 ms
Clearly there is a real difference in speed here, not just a CPU frequency reporting discrepancy.
Given the fact that RightMark is able to bypass the default processor settings, which is what allows you to use it to undervolt a processor, it's not a surprise to me that it would be able to run the processor at it's native maximum speed of 1.6Ghz, where otherwise my processor seems to be somehow limited to 1.2GHz regardless of which power profile I've selected: I've tried High Performance, Maximum Performance and others, and have verified that the maximum processor state in each is set to 100%, yet still the CPU frequency is at 1.2GHz.
When I sent this machine in for repair, I removed the hard drive - so whatever the Lenovo Depot did (assuming that they did do something to my processor) could not have affected the OS or other software on my system. I did notice that RightMark seems to have "lost" it's previous settings, which may suggest that Lenovo replaced the CPU or motherboard and RightMark reset itself having detected a new processor.
Note that BIOS settings are all set to enable Maximum Performance (though I believe Windows bypasses these settings anyway), SpeedStep enabled and the other key CPU setting enabled (which I forget right now and don't want to reboot to check my BIOS for the name).
I've called and spoken with 3 different people at Lenovo about this and none were of any help other than suggesting I start a new case and have my laptop shipped back in - but before I do that, I want to get to the bottom of this. If Lenovo intentionally crippled my machine to "solve" a hardware problem - and without notifying me, no less, then I am far from a happy customer.
So, please provide any input if you have any. Is it possible that Lenovo did something to either the CPU or the BIOS to limit the CPU speed to 1.2GHz? Or is this just a crazy conspiracy theory? Has anyone else had overheating issues and noticed their laptop running more slowly after it's been fixed?

    Hello kctopitz,
please install your battery and plug in AC. Without battery, plugged into the wall, you´ll never reveive the full power.
I would then suggest to measure the CPU clock with Everest, you can download it as a trial.

  • Ask Apple for better iPhoto (Aperture) Library sharing!

    *Some Background...*
My wife and I each have our own Mac and iPhone and we share a digital camera. Between the three camera devices we snap a lot of photos and we want easy access (over the network!) to each other's photos so we can both maintain a shared library. iPhoto 8.1.2 (iLife '09) allows some rudimentary sharing, but it's very basic and not centralized. So, all photos are accessible only when both Macs are on the network and iPhoto is running on each. If you search for "iPhoto sharing" in the forums or Google you'll see a LOT of people have the same needs.
    http://www.google.com/search?q=iphoto+sharing
    *My Humble Suggestion...*
How do I think iPhoto should work? You should have an option of establishing a "Master iPhoto Library". Either locally to share among users of the same computer or on the network for users to share between multiple computers. Whatever photos are added to a user's iPhoto Library may optionally be merged into the Master Library for all to see/edit etc. If the user wants they can move them to the Master or copy them (to retain their own version for editing as they see fit). They may also copy from the Master to their local library if they have a MacBook and want to take them on the go...
If Apple truly wants to provide a digital "hub" for it's users, they must provide this sort of sharing for their services. Families share contacts, photos, calendars, movies and music. This concept should be applied to iTunes, Address Book, iCal, Aperture etc.

By all means make a feature request. Absolutely nothing will change unless you do.
    But some points to ponder:
As I often point out when this one comes up, averaged out of the cost of iLife, iPhoto is a $16 application. For that you get a lot - and with a bit of work, you can even do much of what you want to do - but you don't get everything.
There are apps that will do as you want. They start around the $200 mark.
    As to specifics:
You should have an option of establishing a "Master iPhoto Library".
    Easily done.
Either locally to share among users of the same computer
Put it in the Users/Shared Folder.
or on the network for users to share between multiple computers
Go out an buy a NAS device. Put the iPhoto Library on a disk image formatted Mac OS Extended (Journaled) stored on the NAS. On a NAS it will not require another computer to be available. You might even be able to put in an USB HD attached to an Airport device.
Whatever photos are added to a user's iPhoto Library may optionally be merged into the Master Library for all to see/edit etc.
You can do this - along with all versions, metadata etc - with iPhoto Library Manager.
If the user wants they can move them to the Master or copy them (to retain their own version for editing as they see fit).
You can do that with either iPhoto Library Manager or basic iPhoto Sharing.
They may also copy from the Master to their local library if they have a MacBook and want to take them on the go...
    Ditto.

ps. Some of these links are well out of date. For instance, with iPhoto 09 there is no longer a need to manipulate ACLS to share Libraries. One of those links is labelled "10.4 only" and you need a minimum of 10.5.6 for iPhoto 09.
