Humming noise when I connect my sound card to my band mixer H

Hello,
This is driving me nuts. What I'm trying to do is connect my pc through my Audigy 2 pci card to my band mixer so I can play tracks through my main system. I know the cords aren't the problem because they are high quality and they work fine in other applications. What could be some of the causes and/or solutions for this buzzing/humming sound that emanates.
The connection starts at my external sound card with an /8" stereo phono plug that splits to two RCA's. These then connect to the back of my mixer into one of the "Line In" ports. Then the mixer signal is sent to a crossover and then to two amps for highs and lows and out to the speakers. I can hear the music but there is a steady HUM. It doesn't do it with my laptop with a cheap internal sound output but as soon as I plug into the Audigy 2 the hum is there. I already tried all volume controls in sound blaster and that did nothing to the level of hum. I was hoping someone could give me a checklist of things to examine so I don't waste hours trying everything. Thanks so much. Frank

You don't mention if you want to connect the card into TV through analog or digital path. I suppose you mean digital.
Flexijacks Digital Out supports stereo SPDIF (coaxial) out and pass through of multichannel DVD sound. You'll need at least a mono minijack to RCA (female or male) adapter/cable :
<img alt="" src="http://www.audiogear.com/Resources/AdptMnitoRcaF.jpg" width="76" height="58">
or an adapter or cable which converts the stereo minijack into two (female or male) RCA connectors:
<img alt="" src="http://www.audiogear.com/Resources/adpt-2RcfMsmS.jpg" width="42" height="20">?
OR an adapter cable (RCA end by the RCA cable you have there (male/female)):
<img alt="" src="http://www.audiogear.com/Resources/Adpt2RcfMsm.jpg" width="95" height="6">?
For digital connection, connect the cable through FlexiJack ... when you use stereo cable/adapter then the black/white cable carries the digital signal in the other end.
For analog connection, the best analog output from X-Fi card? can be taken through Line Out (see the X-Fi manual for connection diagrams).
For Optical Digital OUT from FlexiJack an additional compnent is needed

See what track formats your car can play and then check the formats of the tracks in iTunes. It will be easiest to do if you go to the Songs, or Music if your version of iTunes has the sidebar on the left, and right-click in the header (where it says "name", Album" etc) and select to show the Kind column. You may well find that you have a mix of formats, probably AAC and MP3, and your card can only play MP3. Or the tracks that don't play may be copy-protected (those will say "protected AAC audio file"); such tracks cannot be played on anything other than an Apple player.
    Regards.

I would reset the SMC first,
    Shut down the computer.
    Unplug the computer's power cord.
    Wait fifteen seconds.
    Attach the computer's power cord.
Wait five seconds, then press the power button to turn on the computer.

Are you using the same firewire cable when the second device works? Could it just be a bad cable?

  • I want LR to launch when I connect a CF card

    Hi all,
everytime I connect my card reader to my MacBookPro Aperture opens automagically. On my PowerMac it's iPhoto that starts.
In both LR installations I checked the "Show import dialog when a memory card is detected" option in the Preferences dialog -- obviously to no avail (or I didn't get the point here).
I want LR (1.1) to launch when I connect my memory card but I don't know where/how this is stored in Mac OS X.
    Any advice?
    Thanks,
    Stefan.

One hidden place to look is in your Image Capture utility. Open its Preferences, click the General tab, and check which program is set to open when you connect a camera.
Most people don't look there because they don't use the utility, and yet it seems to be a major influence on which program opens.

  • Why does the iPad make the same noise when it connects to a charger that doesn't charge it as one that will charge it???

Why does the iPad make the same noise when it connects to a charger that doesn't charge it as one that will charge it???
I would expect that it would make an unusual noise if plugged into a generic USB charger that does not have enough oomph to charge a pad to alert you - otherwise, you might think the noise is reassuring that you are actually charging it.

I guess my question was actually more of a comment on the (lack of) design!  It is unusual that something like this would still be in an Apple product.  There are wall chargers that have a USB port on them that do not have the required oomph to charge the iPad.  I have one that has two USB ports, one for my iPhone  (it won't charge an iPad), and one for an iPad with greater amperage rating.  I accidentally used the wrong ones for a while yesterday, but noticed before being "surprised" the next morning by an uncharged iPad.  The iPad is smart enough to say "Not charging" by the battery icon when it is plugges in to one of these, so it "knows" - seems like it would be fairly simply to have the iPad make a different or additional noise  wehn it puts up the "Not charging" text icon.  Failsafe user experience?

  • My iPad doesn't recognise video files when I connect my sd card with the camera connection kit. It only recognises photos from the same card

My iPad will only recognise photos when I connect an Sd card with the camera connection kit. It doesn't recognise video clips from the same card?!

Most probably because your camera records videos into MTS files, which aren't cmpatible with iOS. Read http://www.iphonelife.com/blog/87/playing-back-1080p60i60p-non-mov-videos-right- your-camera for more info and the alternatives (preprocessing ("remuxing") on a desktop etc); don't forget to follow the iVI review link at the bottom if you have a Mac.

I bought new i phone model 4S from 3 comunication store wingate house 93-107 shaftbury Avenue,london.W1D 5DA.tel no. 020 7851 0817 on 30/sep/2012.my problems is, I can not activate my phone because i stay in malaysia ( when i connect using the sim card of malaysia DIGI line) it does not read malaysia sim card.Pls help me, how should i use this malaysian digi sim card and deactivate this 3 comunication sim card so i can use any type of sim card in any countries.
The phone details are as follows:
    Serial no : 1151NVQLIKA.
My last 6 digit no in my sim 020287.
    My 3 no 07450453838
    My sim no 8944200009770020287

You probably won't be able to use a Malaysian sim card in your phone.  If you purchased the phone from 3, then it is probably carrier locked to 3 and it won't work with any other sim card.
Nobody here can do anything to help you.  You need to contact 3, so you need to ring them or go back to the store where you purchased the phone.  Not a lot you can do other than activate with the original 3 sim card in situ so that the phone will work.
You can try activating the phone with the 3 sim card and then try swapping them, but I suspect that the phone is carrier locked to 3 and you need to contact them for help.  Noone else can do anything really except them.

  • [SOLVED] Alsamixer always on 0 vol. when plugging in USB sound card

    Hi.
    I have another newbie question!
This time my problem is about sound.
Every time I plug in my USB sound card, alsamixer forgets its previous volume and sets it to 0.
I tried "alsactl -f /var/lib/alsa/asound.state store" as said in the wiki for storing the settings, even tried to delete the file before doing so.
I even tried simply "alsactl store" or something like that.
No matter how many times I set it to  100, alsa just forgets it. In pavucontrol I see the volume meter showing that the sound is okay (I guess I mean the sound stream?), but I have to start alsamixer every time I want to use my USB sound card. And because it's a notebook, I usually plug/unplug it like 5 times a day, so keeping it plugged in is not an option.
Just because of curiosity I tried it on a Fedora 15 live and it was working like a charm so I know there is a solution, I just can't find it.
    What should I do?
    Thanks in advance!

    Sorry, but I failed.
First, I tried "ls -ltr /dev/$(find /dev -type f)", output:

The first line seems to be wrong, so the command modified to this: "ls -ltr $(find /dev -type f)", output changed to this:
    [martin@faye ~]$ ls -ltr $(find /dev -type f)

To be honest, I don't even know what I should see here... :S
Typing "udevadm control --log-priority=debug" haven't told me anything, so I don't know if it was okay or not.
Afterwards I started Fedora live, went to the udev rules, the only suspicious file was "90-alsa-tools-firmware.rules", but it was about loading some firmware for some specific sound cards.
After reading that, I tried this rule:
    SUBSYSTEM=="usb", RUN+="/root/alsa-usb.sh"
    - It was a failure.
After searching in the above mentioned link and the Arch udev Wiki I tried this:
    KERNEL=="sd*", SUBSYSTEM=="usb", RUN+="/root/alsa-usb.sh"
    - Failure as well. Kernel "sd*" because I don't know what else.
Then I google'd some more and the closest I could find was the following:
    KERNEL=="audio1", SUBSYSTEM=="sound", RUN+="/root/alsa-usb.sh"
    - Failure.
At this point I don't know what to do. (Strange, eh?)
I guess my udev rule is incorrect in 2 points: kernel and subsystem. How could I check those? I tried lspci, because I've heard about it somewhere, but I don't think it is useful for me.

  • C2D MBP terrible audio noise when DVI connected?

Just got my 2.33GHz C2D MBP, and while the machine is amazing overall, I'm having serious problems with the audio.
In short, when I have my monitor (Dell 2105FPW) connected via DVI, I get an incredible amount of electronic noise through the audio output, *but only when the output is connected to an amplifier*. If connected via VGA, the noise is still present, but much quieter. If I use headphones, the sound is fine. This noise is present and the same volume regardless of the Mac's volume setting.
I've tried with my powered studio monitors, my home stereo system and my headphone amp; all exhibit the noise, to varying degrees.
I would blame the video monitor, but I have used a G4 Powerbook, a G5 Powermac and two Intel Mac minis in exactly this configuration, with zero noise. I've run from batteries, removed everything else on the same power circuit, moved all of the equipment to another room, nothing helps, other than to unplug the monitor (which makes it hard to see ;-)). I don't have another DVI monitor to try, but am going to try to borrow one.
I had it in for repair for a sticky keyboard (back now with 50% less stick!), and the tech of course didn't have amps laying around and found, as I did, that it sounds fine w/ headphones.
I'll try to get a recording of this and will put a link up when/if I do.
Any enlightment would be greatly appreciated.

I should have mentioned that this is not a 60 cycle hum or anything like that. I sounds like when I was a kid and would set my AM radio up next to my TRS-80 (before the band, there was the computer) and listen to the intererence. High-pitched whining/whistling w/ the occasional pops and click.

  • Humming noise when playing games

    Hello,
I'm hoping someone can help me solve a buzzing noise I'm getting when playing games.
I have a x-fi fatalty, gtx 480 in SLI and a x58a-ud3r motherboard and for the most part the x-fi works fine, however when I play 3d games I get a very irritating buzzing sound coming from the speakers while playing.
    Things I've tried...
Switching off SLI / only having one graphics card installed - no difference
Wrapping the x-fi in electrical tape to stop interference - no difference
Switching the pcie slot - no difference
    Latest BIOS - no difference
Trying x-fi different drivers - no difference
Using on board audio - no buzzing at all
Switching off 3d audio and crystallizer- reduces buzzing significantly but?still?there!
I'm out of ideas now... anyone else had this problem?
    T_L_T

Well, I got Windows 7, I cleaned the inside which was quite dusty. I launched Left 4 Dead, had a minute of calm, then the sound of my fan started to increase slowly to the point when it sounds a bit like when you turn a Mac Pro on. It seems slightly better though. Probably by doing a full cleaning of the inside I could make it a bit less noisy.

  • When are the new sound cards commi

Whats next 32bit's When are they due on the market? Has anyone heard anything even a rumor maybe?

Good question. But are you really expecting to get a good answer to that?
I haven't seen any info on upcoming Creative cards. In fact, I have seen very little info on the upcoming DX0 video cards.
Creative will probably stick with X-Fi for a while, but just release new editions of it. That's my guess.Message Edited by Chugworth on 06-27-2006 0:8 AM

  • Firewire 400 not powering external sound card

I have just got a new Macbook pro, primarily for music performance & production. I have a Firewire 400 bus powered sound card which worked perfectly on my old Powerbook. When I connected the sound card to my Pro last night it would not power up. When I connected the cards external power source it worked fine.
Is this caused by a faulty Firewire slot or are the specs of the Macbook Pro firewire slots different to that of a Powerbook. This is a concern as it was important not be be reliant on power sources during performances.
    Any advice or information here?

it would help if you mention the external interface model.
the mbp's firewire is different from the powerbook.
for my Firebox, the only way to go bus, is to start off with it plugged in to an outlet - plug it into the mbp, than you can unplug from the outlet. (needs a jumpstart)
for me this is not an issue, as i am always running off power.
