hi guys.
i have a t1 running isdn 5ess.

as you can see i set channel 15 to busyout after this problem.
thanks in advance.

What do show isdn service and show isdn status say about this b channel?

  • D channel on E1 ISDN link

    Hi there,
I would like to know if I implement a 10 channel using a E1 ISDN service, what will be the interface number for the D channel. For example if I implement a full E1 ISDN, the D channel is normally on Serial0:0:15
    Thanks Guys

D-channel will remain the same even for partial PRI.

"The B channel numbers range from 1 to 31; channel 16 is the D channel for E1. Corresponding serial interfaces numbers range from 0 to 30. In commands, the D channel is interface serial controller-number:15. For example, interface serial 0:15"

  • Trouble bringing up both B-channels in ISDN connection

What do I need to do to bring up Both channels in an ISDN connection. I am testing an ISDN connection for a video conference. The connection is established but with only one channel. I configured ppp multilink with dialer load threshold of 1 either, still there is only one channel that comes up. I have two phone numbers and they are both configured in the dialer string configuration. Please advise.

Thank you for your reply. Yes the line is ordered with two SPIDs. I have got it to work. I changed the load interval on the bri interface to 30 seconds and also added the command isdn fast-rollover-delay 10 to the bri interface. The changes brought up the second channel and bundled both channels. Thanks once more for your response.

Do you have the correct ISDN switch type configured?
Basic-Net3 covers only a couple of countries in Europe and also New Zealand. I don't know where you are, but have you verified which type you need configured?
See the following URL for information on switch types.

  • BRI problems / layer 1 deactivated

    Hi there
I could really use some help for this issue. I need to implement a BRI line for voice as backup for a SIP line.
However I cannot make layer 1 come up as active. I know for sure the line is working as attaching a phone to the ISDN2 line makes me able to receive and make calls. So the line is ok from teleprovider side. Must be cable issue, makes a cable according to Cisco doc. "When the ISDN BRI port on the router is configured as an NT port, you must use a "rolled" cable (one with the transmit and receive leads swapped) to connect to a TE interface." But this does not help me still same outcome.
    Any help is much appriciated.

I had this problem a few months ago and it took several days of investigation and research to figure it out but I got there in the end.  Hopefully this will save someone else a lot of frustration!
In short it was mainly sorted by adding the bearer-cap Speech command to my extra voice-ports.
This command specifies whether the 'call' will initialize for voice or data during the setup and can cause the line to drop/disconnect if it is set incorrectly.
    FULL DETAILS
My client was using a UC540W-BRI-K9 with 2 phone lines coming in over a single ISDN device connected to a voice-port.  They had purchased a plug-in 2-port voice-board to allow them to utilize another 4 phone lines via an extra 2 ISDN devices, however the company who installed this had failed to configure the system properly so even after I activated the extra lines they would always fail to dial-out as above.
The first step was to tell the plug-in voice-board to use the network-clock and set the ISDN-connected BRIs to use the network-clock:
    network-clock-participate wic 1
    network-clock-participate wic 2
    network-clock-select 1 BRI0/1/0
    network-clock-select 2 BRI0/1/1
    network-clock-select 3 BRI0/2/0
I spent time investigating the BRI configuration, adding a few bits which I think helped activate the lines, although I still had the outgoing call failures on the new lines:
    interface BRI0/1/0
     no ip address
isdn switch-type basic-net3          <--- Copied this command to the other BRIs
isdn tei-negotiation first-call   <--- Added this to all the BRIs
     isdn point-to-point-setup
     isdn incoming-voice voice
     isdn sending-complete
isdn static-tei 0                          <--- Added this to all the BRIs
trunk-group ALL_BRI 64                <--- Copied this command to the other BRIs
I then found the voice-ports had a separate configuration independent of the BRIs and the newly connected voice-ports required a couple of commands to be copied from the original, working voice-port.  The problem was fixed once I applied the bearer-cap Speech command to the extra voice-ports, along with compand-type a-law (for a European system).
voice-port 0/1/0          <--- The original voice-port connected to the primary ISDN
     compand-type a-law        <--- Copied to the newly-connected voice-ports
     bearer-cap Speech         <--- Copied to the newly-connected voice-ports
    voice-port 0/1/1            <--- Connected to 2nd ISDN
     compand-type a-law
     bearer-cap Speech
    voice-port 0/2/0            <--- Connected to 3rd ISDN
     compand-type a-law
     bearer-cap Speech
    voice-port 0/2/1            <--- Unused
The compand-type command is used to convert signals from analog to digital and is normally compand-type u-law for North America systems and compand-type a-law for European systems, as explained here:

  • RAS with multiple BRI

    Hi,
I have heritated of a very confusing problem, regarding my poor knowledge of the subject, and the very few examples of that type of config on the net :
    * Here is the environment :
We have a cisco 2620 router with 8 BRI acting as RAS.
Each BRI is linked to an ISDN line, all lines are reachable by a unique phone number.
    Authentication is done by radius.
All remote users willing to connect have their own ISDN lines and are using a PC with ISDN adapter.
    * Now, here is the problem:
When a user connects to the router, one of the ISDN line is triggered, Layer 2 PPP is ok, Layer 3 too. He's connected successfully to the network.
Now, when a second user is connecting, one of the other bri line is coming up, the connection, authentication, are successfully done, he has access to the network, but the first user immediatly looses all IP capabilities. The line is still up, but he is unable to access the network.
To make short : only one user at a time is able to connect successfully to the network... Annoying when you have 8 BRI available....
You can see the config of the router in attachments.
I've searched cisco site in vain for the moment...
Does anyone have a clue ?
    Remarks:
    * I don't even know if that type of config is valid...
    * Authentication works fine
    * First user can't work when second arrives but is not disconnected
    * the problem here is that I can't identify the users and phone numbers that will connect: It could be anything, so no possibility to match the caller in the dialer.
Many thanks to those who will be patient enough to read that post until the end !
    Alexandre

    Hello Alexandre,
bonjour. I have looked at your configuration and amended a few things. Basically, since each user has his or her own ISDN, I have created a dialer interface per user/BRI. In addition, I have also added the PPP Multilink command, which would enable the users to use both B-channels of their ISDN connection (if you do not need or want that, take out all the 'ppp multilink' commands)...
Can you try and change your configuration, and see if that makes a difference ?
    Regards,
    GP

  • Sample RAS configuration of Cisco 3725

    Dear All,
If anyone can help me with some sample RAS configuration of Cisco 3725 having one 1-Port Channelized E1/T1/ISDN-PRI Network Module & 12 Port Digital Modem Network Module.
    Thanks

The configuration is not mine, I just took it from:
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/sw/iosswrel/ps1826/products_configuration_guide_chapter09186a00800d9bb5.html
and I remove the extra lines (in the config is 1 to 48, but in your 3725 can be others depending in which module are installed). Also you have to check the lines of your modems. This is a useful link, but you can check it with show diag:

  • RAS access via multilink PPP

I need to establish RAS access to my network via an ISDN PRI line. Most users will be single POTS line users but I'll also need to allow bundled POTS line users via Microsoft multilink PPP. I'm planning to order a Cisco 2811 to handle this using a NM-1CE1T1-PRI module for the PRI and a PVDM2-24DM for the calls. Will this setup handle my requirments?

I have 20 leased line with 256 kpbs sharing on 2 E1 links on the module NM-1CE1T1-PRI (1-Port Channelized E1/T1/ISDN-PRI Network Module).
Now we are migrating those 20 line to 2 mbps leased line, i wanted to know that using PVDM can i used the existing 20 lines as backup isdn line ?
We use RAS for dialup and want to remove RAS device so my question is can i use the cards mentioned above so that 20 locations can dial in with on the present E1 card without using patton RAS?

  • How to fake ISDN b-channels as busy out of the pri-group timeslots definition ?

    Hi, Cisco Support Community,
This is my first post here, so I hope I won't make mistakes... First, thanks for reading me.
I wanted to reuse an old 2811 to act as a SIP gateway on an ISDN primary rate interface. This router is featured with 2 PVDM2-8 modules, so that we're able to handle up to 16 simultaneous calls. So I ordered a pri with 10 channels, which is supposed to be more than enough for our usage.
Everything works fine, excepted that I discovered that the PRI which was delivered to us is a full one, meaning 30 B channels.
As a result, as incoming calls are dispatched round robin by the isdn line provider, when incoming calls start to be presented on b-channel 16, the call is rejected by the router with a "channel unavailable" message... The only way to have a successful incoming call is then to have 15 more unsuccessful tries so that the calls are presented on B-channel 1 again :-/
I have to wait for monday to deal with the line provider to sort this out, but meanwhile, I was trying to find a workaround.
My first try was to use B-channel negotiation on the serial interface (isdn negotiate-bchan resend-setup), but it seems that b channel negociation is disabled on the provider side.
So the other obvious solution would be to fake channels 17 to 31 as busy (isdn busy b_channel xx) ... But as the pri-group timeslots are 1-16, the related serial interface is serial0/0/0:15, and I'm unable to set busy B-channels over 15. And of course, I have no way to define pri-group timeslots 1-31 as I have not enough DSPs to handle more than 16.
I also tried to use the ds0 busyout directive within the E1 controller configuration, but while the command is accepted, it does not appear in the configuration
Below is my running configuration... If some of you can help, this would be much appreciated. Current IOS on the router is Version 12.3(11)T3
    Kind regards,
    Philippe Martorell
