Hung up with my Quicken while trying to upgrade to Maverick

While trying to upgrade to Maveric we ran into a snag.  It seems that my Quicken 2007 is not compatable with the new operating system.  This is a show stopper since we use it to balance several checking accounts and keep tabs on savings and other accounts.  Balancing the check book it's its primary function and we do not need to pay bills, track investments, or perform other acts of high science.
Quicken has a very clever way of not having to deal with it's customers.  When you call in for help you must have an incodent number, but if you can't speak to anyone how would you come buy such a number.  Anyway it is clear that they are not the least bit interested in supporting anyone with a Mac.  Reviews of there new software demonstrate that. They do have some software that would upgrade my Quicken to work with the new OS, but I have yet to discover how you can contact some one to order it. So now it it time to find some new software.
It needs to:
Open or import the current Quicken Files (from Quicken 2007)
Work with our current IOS  OSX 10.6.8
Work well with Maverick
Balance several checking accounts
Provide reports of tax related information.
Reside on the computer and not have my information floating around in some cloud somewhere.
You would think that there would be an abundance of software out there that would meet this criteria.  However when I find something that looks like it might work it either has very poor reviews or there is not enough information for me to determinf if it will work.
I have been very impressed with the information I have recieved from this forum so once again I shall go to the well.  Any assistance would be appreciated.
Have a great day !!!

Yep!  That would be a great solution, however seeing it and trying to successfully order it are two different things!
If you have a source where I can order the software I would welcome that!

I had already given you the link to purchase the downloaded version from Intuit.  Since that link was offered by Intuit in February, 2012, you are the first person to suggest that it does not work for you.  I facetiously suggested that you were not in the United States and obtained a somewhat snarky geography lesson...

One other question, just what does "Level 4' mean?
Thanks for trying !
I do not know; I just continue to try to help and sometimes the OP (Original Poster, in this case YOU) acknowledges that help and/or claim responses are their solutions.  Both responses from an OP awards points to those recipients.  As points accumulate, members acquire a higher Level status, which grants certain privileges not awarded to holders of lower levels.  Personally I just mostly ignore it!

Hello,  I am trying to upgrade an iMac to Mavericks. At the end of the download phase, a message pops up that says
"OS 10.9 has not yet been approved for software upgrade. Thanks! - SWN IT"
The download stops, and I cannot resume. Made several attempts to start the process of downloading again and receive the same message/error.
I am not familiar with any software that has the intials SWN or have SWN in the title.
Does this error look familiar to anyone?
Any clues as to how to find out the what application could be sending this message would be greatly apprciated.

Is this on a Mac that belongs to a company or did you buy it used?

  • IPhone 4S stuck in recovery mode while trying to upgrade to iOS 7.0.4

I ran into the issues with my iPhone 4S while trying to upgrade it it iOS 7.0.4 OTA and I have tried everything I can to recover it but no luck. I have tried different USB ports, different PCs altogether with av tuned off, and finally a MAC Pro this morning. I am stuck and miserable. I did everything that a number of forums have mentioned in terms of switching off anti-virus, clearing off host files, checking windows and mac firewall settings, setting the phone to DFU mode and trying over - you name it.
The error I run into most half way through the upgrade is "Unknown Error (29)". According to Apple (http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3694), it has to do with anti-virus but last night I spent 2 hours building an image with no av or firewall running and tried and still ran into the error. Even tried "Fix it" from Microsoft to clear off the host file configurations as prescribed.
Any help is welcome. Much needed.

Hi, sorry for my late reply.
FIXED!!!! For me anyway, and I hope for you!
So I tried to update to ios 7 and after downloading the software itunes tried to update my iPad 3. I recieved the error 3004 and was stuck in the "Connect to iTunes" screen and
could not get out of it. Completely annoyed!
But then I remembered something from when I used to fiddle with iphones. I opened a program I had called TinyUmbrella, which can be used to force boot out of recovery mode (the
    "connect to itunes" screen).
My ipad was still connected to itunes and in recovery mode. I opened TinyUmbrella, selected my ipad (which was just shown by the serial number), then clicked "Exit Recovery" and
BAM!!! It immediately kicked my out of the recovery screen and started my ipad back up to my home screen.
Now, my ipad was still on 6.1.3 since the update to ios 7 had failed. But I didn't care, my ipad was fully functional again just like I left it before. Thank God for
TinyUmbrella! Here's the CNET link for TinyUmbrella if you need it:

    Hi apiccolo5,
Thanks for visiting Apple Support Communities.
See these articles for steps that can help you resolve the issue you're seeing:
iOS: Unable to update or restore
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1808
iTunes: Specific update-and-restore error messages and advanced troubleshooting
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3694
    Error 20, 21, 23, 26, 28, 29, 34, 36, 37, 40
These errors typically occur when security software interferes with the restore and update process. Follow Troubleshooting security software issues to resolve this issue. In rare cases, these errors may be a hardware issue. If the errors persist on another computer, the device may need service.
Also, check your hosts file to verify that it's not blocking iTunes from communicating with the update server. See iTunes: Advanced iTunes Store troubleshooting—follow steps under the heading Blocked by configuration (Mac OS X / Windows) > Rebuild network information > Mac OS X > The hosts file may also be blocking the iTunes Store. If you have software used to perform unauthorized modifications to the iOS device, uninstall this software prior to editing the hosts file to prevent that software from automatically modifying the hosts file again on restart.
    Best,
    Jeremy

What do I do now that Photoshop CC has encountered an error while trying to upgrade. Suggesting retry does nothing. The numbers (49) appear, but I don’t know what that signifies. Help?
It is recommended that I ask for help, which put me here. What I really need is some customer service — not a chat room!

    If Windows :
Quit Creative Cloud desktop application .
Launch Photoshop cc 2014 application from C: > Program Files > Adobe Photoshop CC 2014 .
Once launched , click on Help menu in Photoshop cc 2014 and select Updates option .
    It should update.
    If Mac:
Quit Creative Cloud desktop application .
Launch Photoshop cc 2014 application from Applications folder:
Once launched , click on Help menu in Photoshop cc 2014 and select Updates option .
Let me know if you face any error .
Error 49 occurs while updating the application , when Creative Cloud app  does not have reference / Access to installed CC app, so that it can apply updates for the same .
You can try to update from CC app  like Photoshop itself and check.

I am using Mac OS X 10.7.5 as of now and when I am trying to upgrade to Mavericks, the App Store is throwing error "The product distribution file could not be verified. It may be damaged or not signed".
Is there anything I should do differently? Is anyone else facing the same issue?
    Kindly help.

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a diagnostic test. It won’t solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
Third-party system modifications are a common cause of usability problems. By a “system modification,” I mean software that affects the operation of other software — potentially for the worse. The following procedure will help identify which such modifications you've installed. Don’t be alarmed by the complexity of these instructions — they’re easy to carry out and won’t change anything on your Mac.
These steps are to be taken while booted in “normal” mode, not in safe mode. If you’re now running in safe mode, reboot as usual before continuing.
Below are instructions to enter some UNIX shell commands. The commands are harmless, but they must be entered exactly as given in order to work. If you have doubts about the safety of the procedure suggested here, search this site for other discussions in which it’s been followed without any report of ill effects.
Some of the commands will line-wrap or scroll in your browser, but each one is really just a single line, all of which must be selected. You can accomplish this easily by triple-clicking anywhere in the line. The whole line will highlight, and you can then copy it. The headings “Step 1” and so on are not part of the commands.
Note: If you have more than one user account, Step 2 must be taken as an administrator. Ordinarily that would be the user created automatically when you booted the system for the first time. The other steps should be taken as the user who has the problem, if different. Most personal Macs have only one user, and in that case this paragraph doesn’t apply.
Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
When you launch Terminal, a text window will open with a line already in it, ending either in a dollar sign (“$”) or a percent sign (“%”). If you get the percent sign, enter “sh” and press return. You should then get a new line ending in a dollar sign.
    Step 1
Triple-click anywhere in the line of text below on this page to select it:
    kextstat -kl | awk '!/com\.apple/{printf "%s %s\n", $6, $7}' | open -ef
Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Then click anywhere in the Terminal window and paste (command-V). I've tested these instructions only with the Safari web browser. If you use another browser, you may have to press the return key after pasting. A TextEdit window will open with the output of the command. If the command produced no output, the window will be empty. Post the contents of the TextEdit window (not the Terminal window), if any — the text, please, not a screenshot. You can then close the TextEdit window. The title of the window doesn't matter, and you don't need to post that. No typing is involved in this step.
    Step 2
    Repeat with this line:
    { sudo launchctl list | sed 1d | awk '!/0x|com\.(apple|openssh|vix\.cron)|org\.(amav|apac|cups|isc|ntp|postf|x)/{print $3}'; echo; sudo defaults read com.apple.loginwindow LoginHook; echo; sudo crontab -l; } 2> /dev/null | open -ef
This time you'll be prompted for your login password, which you do have to type. Nothing will be displayed when you type it. Type it carefully and then press return. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. Heed that warning, but don't post it. If you see a message that your username "is not in the sudoers file," then you're not logged in as an administrator.
Note: If you don’t have a login password, you’ll need to set one before taking this step. If that’s not possible, skip to the next step.
    Step 3
    { launchctl list | sed 1d | awk '!/0x|com\.apple|org\.(x|openbsd)/{print $3}'; echo; crontab -l 2> /dev/null; } | open -ef
    Step 4
    ls -A /e*/{cr,la,mach}* {,/}Lib*/{Ad,Compon,Ex,Fram,In,Keyb,La,Mail/Bu,P*P,Priv,Qu,Scripti,Servi,Spo,Sta}* L*/Fonts .la* 2> /dev/null | open -ef
Important: If you formerly synchronized with a MobileMe account, your me.com email address may appear in the output of the above command. If so, anonymize it before posting.
    Step 5
osascript -e 'tell application "System Events" to get name of login items' | open -ef
Remember, steps 1-5 are all copy-and-paste — no typing, except your password. Also remember to post the output.
    You can then quit Terminal.

  • Trying to upgrade to Maverick but my disk has Time Machine backup so it cant and will not intall. How do I get around this problem?

I have a 13-inch MacBook Mid-2009 running on IOS X Lion and am trying to upgrade to Mavericks but after the download and starting installation the point where you choose which disk to use it says my hard drive is being used for Time Machine backups so it can not be used. I have turned off the Time Machine but do not know how to remove the backups from the hard drive. What do I do to get rid of the Time Machine backups I no longer actually need and install Mavericks? I have moved all my files to a separate terabyte hard drive but that drive does not have the GUID partition scheme to be used for installation. So I am stuck with one internal hard drive I cant use due to Time Machine and an external hard drive I cant use due to this GUID partition problem. How can I work around this and finally upgrade to Mavericks?

Click here and follow the instructions.

Can not print with HP LaserJet 6L since the upgrade to Mavericks. Any alternative driver for this printer?

I have an HP LaserJet 5P and had the same problem. My LaserJet is connected to a D-Link ethernet print server, then to an Airport Express to support wireless printing.
As recommended in earlier posts, I first downloaded the Gutenprint HP drivers at Sourceforge, version 5.2.9 That did not work. Then found the reference to the Apple kb here: http://support.apple.com/kb/dl907
Downloaded these drivers. When setting up the printer, I got the autoselect option for Generic Postscript Printer and used that. Printer worked, but printed out garbage. I then deleted the printer, and this time selected the HP LaserJet 5P CUPS + Gutenprint v.5.2.9 THAT WORKED! I don't know if was the combination of downloading the drivers from Sourceforge and the Apple kb, or just the Apple kb that solved the problem, but I'm glad this is now sorted.
I was a bit surprised when I hit this snag to begin with because the last upgrade I did from Lion to Mountain Lion, I did not have this issue. It was seamless.

I have an iMac running OSX 10.7.5 trying to upgrade to Mavericks. I downloaded 10.9.2 but I get a message saying it won't load without 10.9.1. I downloaded 10.9.1 but it won't load without 10.9 .....And I can't get 10.9 from anywhere, it seems to have been superceded. Any suggestions of how I can get the upgrade to 10.9.2?
    Thanks

    I downloaded 10.9.2 but I get a message saying it won't load without 10.9.1. I downloaded 10.9.1
    No you don't
I go to the App Store and search for Mavericks but it only has 10.9.1 or 2
The full version of Mavericks (5.30 gb long) it's 10.9.2, there are not previous versions 10.9.1 or 10.9.0.
Maybe you are searching in google or in the apple web site. Not in the App Store.
App Store its an app in your aplications folder.

Either try to force quit Safari (press Command + Option + Escape keys and then choose force quit in the pop up window), or, you can also shut down the computer. Then boot up and open the app store application to download Mavericks - you don't need Safari for it.

How fast is your download speed? If it's less than 10Mbps, it's going to take hours.
