HURRY UP NOKIA! (About N96 V20.50)

Many people are complaning about their N96s still NOT showing update to V20 neither on NSU nor on OTA.
These N96s are unbranded, SIM Free, operator free, unlocked, whatever you want to call it. They are directly purchased from Nokia Shops.
This time Nokia was slow to update all of their unbranded phones. Usually branded, operator branded phones were behind, but this time many other unbranded product codes fell behind, too.
Hurry Up Nokia! Update those Servers at least for all unbranded product codes!!!
A.S.A.P.

Another consideration is that there is not a single version of v20 for all N96s, even the unbranded ones - the software has regional differences, language set differences etc., this is why it is not practical to hava a fixed-date worldwide launch.
My N96 is the Finnish version and already updated, but my friend who has a locally-bought Belgian N96 can't update yet. Both are unbranded.

  • Nokia have solved the probem about n96?

the slide problem of n95 and n95 8g and n81 is so terrible!
if u use it for long time the slide will be loose and not comfortable!
i want to know whether the nokia can solve the problem in n96?
the samsung's phone does not have the slide problem!
but i wish nokia can solve it,if they can the nokia will be much better!!!!
    Do better than the best!

i've heard of this problem " the jerky slider" before, but as far as i know and read around the net, late production units were equipped with a better mechanism.
in fact i've seen some pictures around of the improved mechanism "i'll try to locate those ".
it's obvious that it's too early to judge the N96, but i think that the sliding mechanism in nokia slides is improving with each new model , just take a look at the N80 and the 6110 navigator "big big difference"

  • Open letter to Nokia about the original N95!

Hi there, hope this message gets to the high-level employees of the company.
Why on earth would you people in R&D develop a full fledged computer, the flagship of Nokia Nseries phones, that can fit in the palm of your motherloving hand, and only include 64mb of memory.
I understand that maybe the N95 life cycle might be coming to an end (or has it ended?), and so you corrected the first mistake by releasing the same N95(8gb) but this time, someone in R&D must of had an epiphany and made the right choice to include 128mb of RAM.
But what about us, the good ol' N95 people? We have a crippled device.
People might argue that we are the poor early adopters a.k.a the losers. But I refuse to declare so, as it is not the case. The same phone the N95(8gb) was released 2 holy years later, with the exact same specifications and functionality! Except for the built-in 8gb (we have the sandisk micro 8gb), and slightly bigger battery, oh and the screen.
Just look around these forum, and other forums and see how much memory related problem everybody is having. Searching on google for this phrase: Memory Full close applications try again returns a lot of results related to the n95.
Now I know a multi-billion company's got to make a living, and handing out free upgrades doesn't hurt their pocket, but they won't do it because, let's face it, it didn't become a multi-billion company relying on charity work, so considering this and the whole rant above, I wish to say this:
Can Nokia give the option for N95 owners to send over their N95 and get a memory upgrade for a fee (cost of upgrade plus S/H). I repeat yes NOT free, but a fee. I am willing to pay a price to get it upgraded (if at all possible). As I'm not willing to pay for the new 8gb or maybe the n96, since they are pretty much all similar, except for the memory issue.
Yes, that is all I have to say. Please someone consider it, *if technically possible*. And if ever considered, please put a reasonable price tag on it (not to be touchy, but I'm also not paying the same price of the N95 just to get a memory module upgraded).
Thanks for listening. And hope we arrive at a solution that is favorable to both the customer and company (which never does happen, but a man can dream no?)
PS: And just to say, my brother has the N95 8gb, so I played with it profusely, so if anyone wants to say or (pardon the language) **bleep** how the new n95{8gb) is radically superior than the original n95, you fan boys can please do so, but do it on another thread.

    That memory is for storage.
The memory he is referring to is the SDRAM that you need for running programs and multi-tasking.
The N95-1 has 64mb of SDRAM which was problematic on earlier firmware versions. This issue was addressed in the v20 firmware by introducing demand paging which freed up more ram and improved performance all round.
The N95-2(8GB) and the N82 have 128mb of SD RAM which makes these phones perform better than the N95-1.

  • N96 V20 Update: Connection Lost during OTA update ...

Ok, I decided to update my N96 thru OTA this time. I chose "Check for New Updates" from the phone's menu but while checking if there was a new update, the phone told me "the connection was lost!" with the WLAN modem.
I am now little concerned about using OTA. What happenes if this happens right in the middle of "updating process?"
I wanted to try NSU but this time NSU said the latest firmware was still "V12". No luck there either. I guess V20 isn't widely available around the world yet, or is it?
I don't think NSU would tell me that there was no V20 available yet, where there really was.
By the way, my phone is purchased directly from Nokia (unbranded, no operator branded.)

The update may not be available on NSU yet for your product code
One of the cool things about updating OTA rather than via NSU i sthat if the connection is lost, not only does it not crater the phone, but you get the option to resume your download from where it left off rather than the begining

  • Nokia N93 (firmware V20) issues

    Hello,
I bought (on February 1st) a Nokia N93 that I quickly upgraded to firmware V20.
Even with that firmware, I still have some very annoying issues :
    (1) I expected to personnalize my ring tones on the calling number basis, like on my previous Nokia telephone. Although I think that I found how to do this, it doesn't seem to work : the calling number is correctly received, but the telephone doesn't seem to make the link with the corresponding contact list entry.
    (2) There seems to be two different web browsers on this telephone, one for the Internet, and another for the WAP.
The WAP browser seems to have a lot of trouble in correctly displaying pictures in WAP pages : about one picture out of two is shown as a (about) 2x2 pixels tiny "picture". In order to correct it, I have to move my N93 screen to the landscape position, and next to move it back to its previous place.
    (3) When watching a video using the N93's Real Player, the video is not displayed full screen at the beginning. In order to do this, I have to STOP the video, then open the "Option" menu, and select the "Read in full screen" command. But when I watch it full screen, if I press any key, the display reverts to tiny size without stopping, and I have to restart the whole process for going back to full screen.
I didn't find any command for displaying full screen without stopping the video. Did I miss something ?
On such a tiny screen, I couldn't imagine anybody willing to watch a video otherwise than full screen ... Why isn't this the default, or at least being configurable for becoming it ?
    Best regards,
    Gingko

Yes, about "contacts", I already did that.
I can select the appropriate ring tone for each contact, that way.
But the problems is that, when this contact later makes a phone call to me, and although I correctly receive his phone number from my operator, and although his name and his phone number have correctly (hopefully) been entered in my contact list, and although I selected a ring tone for him (either directly or via contact groups), the N93 doesn't seem to be able to find the corresponding number at the time of the call, and the display shows only the phone number with the default ring tone, like if I never created this contact in the list.
    Thank you for your help.
    Gingko

  • N96 - V20 update - lost connection - failed update

    Hey Guys
I'm trying to upate my n96 to v20 and after the download through NSU it looses connection, the phone reboots but NSU goes to recovery then says it's failed to update.  I've done the 3 button reset, re-installed PC and NSU but no joy. Is there anything I can do?

    pedro74 wrote:
Any ideas why I keep loosing connection on NSU? It's allowing the download but when it says '15 mins remaining' it looses connection with the phone.  It's at exactly the same point each time????????????
    Hi pedro74
Once downloaded it is stored locally temporarily so doesn't keep downloading. When you say that you have un-installed PC Suite + NSU, I am concerned that corrupt registry keys will now preclude a satisfactory installation here.

  • NOKIA N85 , N96 or 5800 XM

Please give your own comment about this 3 phone.... and which do you prefer the most

N85 - best. I personally dont have any problems which ppl say they experience like restarting, can't install, speaker problems, etc... and I love S60 6.3 which is in my opinion the best ever... BUT the only problem which does annoy me a bit which is the batter cover. It is lose and moves around and creaks when u sms due to holding the phone facing you and holding onto the back to text but not a deal breaker. I bought this phone in Hong Kong so dont know if problems are country specific but anyway, I would seriously consider the N85. If u want a cheaper version then go for the N79 which is exact same specs except for no OLED screen which i DONT think is all that better, yes you save battery and the battery on the N85 is awsome, can play N-Gage games for 3 hrs and still half battery left but expect ZERO readability in sunlight... totally sucks in sun and can't read a thing. To summarize, Battery cover lose and creaks and cannot read in sunlight.
N96 - battery sucks... lighter then the 85 (which is a plus) but I find it too wide. If I were to get such a big phone, I might as well stick with the N95-8GB with larger battery and has everything (almost) the N96 has. Also the N96 is hell expensive. Also, the S60 on the N96 is inferor to the N85 with less fetures.
Xpress - why on earth would u get a symbian touch screen??? like really, why not get a windows Mobile instead? The ONLY reason you would get the xpress is if u were asian and will be using the hand writing feature for characters you cannot type like where I'm from, in my opinion, any language where you can text quickly with the key pad makes the touch screen not necessary... unless u use specific touch screen apps.
My opinions only.... hope this helps u out.

    Dear updaters
Some of you may experience problems using the latest version of the Nokia Software Updater with older versions of Nokia PC Suite.
We recommend that you always use the latest version of Nokia PC Suite.
You can download the latest version from www.nokia.com/pcsuite
In case your device will not switch on after using the Nokia Software Updater, simply remove and replace the battery in your phone, upgrade your PC Suite and try again.
We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and we will be releasing a newer version of the Nokia Software Updater very soon.

    Hi,
I been a Nokia user all my life and i have used nearly each and every premium phone starting from the model 2110.
it is sad that the way we are treated at least in India here. very disappointed with the bangalore call centre response.
see my message below in the board about my E90 and other problem is that i cannot see who called me last at times, i just called someone and now i am seeing the last dialled number it is of a few hours back from my address book.
My question is that, Why cannot a full testing be done from each and every aspect before the software or an upgrade is released, an upgrade should be an upgrade and not a "downgrade". Please hire us as your phone testing agents if you cannot get it done and give us a week and we will tell you where the problem is as we been using them for past 13 years.

    Thanks in advance.
    1. Same is the case. However, this is not a problem and digitally locked files are supposed to work this way. The solution would be to visit the nearest Nokia care center and have this unlocked, or wait hoping that Nokia would release OTA unlocking similar to N95
    2. Same case. I will try keeping it on download on WiFi for a few hours and see if there is any response.
    3. I haven't noticed any.
    2. I kept the phone for download on WiFi for a few hours and there was no positive progress. Guess we will have to wait for Nokia to give a solution.
    3. I would have used WiFi to browse for at least 3-4 hrs, and the connection was never dropped.
Keeping my fingers crossed that everything goes smooth...

  • Nokia 5800 Firmware update V20

    Hi all ,
can anyone advise if this works with the phone as i keep hearing about system failure notice with the new version ?
who has installed it on there phone and does it make any difference ??
Message Edited by 5800uk on 19-Feb-2009 05:47 PM

yes v20 was buggy thats why Nokia have removed it off there NSU. It shouldnt be long til the next update comes out on NSU. Nokia 5800 is a very demanding phone and Nokia will make new firmware qucikly so users who have v20 firmware can update to later version which will solve handset issues and those 5800 that people purhcase of the net some come with v20.

These are the following bugs i have found in the Nokia 5800. Please do add yours to this post that you find. So other users who have not got v20 can decide if they want to update to v20.
    Bugs...
    .1.
When receiving new message and viewing it, the little envelope icon on the left in the inbox is still set to closed. its not like previous firmware where the envelope is open once you view your message.
    .2.
Check your battery on the right hand in the main screen just say for example u got 3 bars, now go in to music player and play a music track and u will notice it will be 2bars instead of 3. It will always be 1 bar below than what u got on the main screen battery status bar.
    .3.
If updating from previous firmware with lock code enabled to v20. your phone will not be accessible whatever pin code u enter either ur own, or default codes... 12345, 00000 etc (BEFORE UPDATING TO V20, TURN OFF YOUR LOCK CODE !)
Would be great if NOKIA could add more themes with the phone rather than just one. ope to see a new update for this.

I purchased my Nokia N95 in the New York Flagship store in July. The phone hasn't really lived up to it's expectations and has been quite disappointing.

This phone is unbranded, unlocked and purchased from your flagship store. I would like to know when the new software will be available for the phone CODE:0548763 so I can make my original investment of $812 work like it should have out of the box.
