Husband and i both have iphones...how to sync both to one itunes acct but keep separate info.?

We both have 3GS iphones.  We want to sync using the same computer, same iTunes, same music, but different content (don't want same calendars, contacts, etc.). I keep seeing where you can choose how to sync separately, but am doing something wrong because we keep getting synced the same, as though one phone acct.  Step-by-step info. please.

Here are your choices explained in detail:

My husband and I each have an iphone 4S, how can we share the contact and calender info we have in our iclouds with each other?

You can make one or more calendars of one iphone sharable and the other user will be able to have those sharable calanders synced.  Unfortunately, you can't do that with contacts.  But you could go to the computer account used by you or your husband, perform a backup of the contacts (see the file menu), copy the file to the other account used to sync the other iphone, and restore.  It's a manual process that has to be performed periodically, but doable.
The other method is for each of you to use the same iCloud ID and have both iphones synced to be identical.  But I don't recommend that otherwise you'll each get the same text messages and who knows what else.

  • HT1373 how can you set up another iTunes account but keep all your purchases and music from a previous account

how can you set up another iTunes account but keep all your purchases and music from a previous account

An iTunes account is something you log into online to buy music.
An iTunes library is a collection of media and other items (including apps) on your computer.  This is what you see when you open iTunes.
So, do you mean account or library?  You can set up a new iTunes account but all your purchases made in that account will remain in the old account and cannot be moved.  You can set up a new library by starting iTunes and immediately hold down the option key.

  • An iPhone can be synced with only one iTunes library at a time

I recently bought a MacBook Pro, and I figured it would be pretty simple to move my iPhone to sync with iTunes on the Mac from iTunes on my pc, afterall it is the same program and both are designed for the iPhone.
I have been successful in getting the Contacts and Calendar to sync, but the Music, Applications, Video and a few other things give me this message when I check the sync box:
"The iPhone is synced with another iTunes library. Do you want to erase the iPhone and sync with this iTunes library? An iPhone can be synced with only one iTunes library at a time. Erasing and syncing replaces the contents of this iPhone with the contents of this iTunes library."
Obviously, I don't want to erase everything. Actually, I don't care about Music, Videos, Podcasts or Ringtones as I don't have any, but I do care about Photos and Applications. Actually Photos I can reload too, but I don't want to loose the apps I have purchased with the iTunes App Store.
I even tried going back to the PC and unchecking the Sync boxes on it, hoping this might disassociate it from the phone, but now even on that PC I get the same message.
How do I disconnect phone from the old iTunes and be able to sync it to the new iTunes? This should be simple right?

I made an appointment with a Mac Genius and I will say that while it was better than getting to talk to India on a poor quality phone call it was just about as helpful. Sure she was cute and friendly, but I left without my issue resolved and was surprised that I didn't even get a followup from anyone asking about my experience (hence my venting here)
Anyway, I found a solution for my issue here: http://tinyfish.net/2008/07/18/how-to-sync-iphone-with-multiple-computers/
This is a real solution to the issue, and has the benefit that I can do this to as many machines as I need and sync at any of them instead of just one. Hopefully, Apple doesn't delete my response since it truly is the answer to the problem and others might be looking for the same solution.

  • Calendar on Mac and MoMe now on iphone - how to remove the Mac ones?

I guess 3.0 has this nifty feature where you can sync ical from the computer AND through MoMe. Well, that's great but now I've got duplicate calendars.
I just want to get rid of the Mac ical stuff on my phone. I ONLY want MoMe ical.
In itunes I do not have anything checked for under Calendars. Nothing, nada, zip. It even says "Your calendars are being synced with MoMe...yadda, yadda, yadda. Perfect!
But when I open ical on my phone I see selections for the following:
    All Calendars
    (On My Iphone)
    All on My iPhone
    (.Mac (MoMe))
    All .Mac
long list of all my ical calendars
I'd like to just have the .Mac/MoMe listing. I don't know what the On My iPhone thing is but if I make a new event, I can select it as a category from a calendar that I got form syncing to my Mac. Not via MoMe.
    I'm so confused!
I've lost events with this because I quickly added an event, expected it to show up on my Mac via MoMe, but it never did. It never would either because it was entered in a calendar that didn't sync with MoMe. (unless I did a sync with my 'puter)
So I'd like to get rid of all references to anything other than the MoMe cals. When I look at my calendars on my phone, I should ONLY be able to choose from the .Mac list. Anyone know how to do this?
    Thanks!
    Denise

Deselecting sync calendars under the Info tab for your iPhone sync preferences followed by a sync with iTunes probably won't delete the calendars/calendar events transferred to your iPhone via the iTunes sync process.
    If not, do the following.
On your iPhone go to Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars.
    Select your MobileMe account.
Turn Calendars off for over the air syncing with your MobileMe account. A warning message will be provided indicating that all calendars and calendar events downloaded to your iPhone over the air will be deleted from your iPhone.
After this process is complete, check your Calendar. If the calendars and calendar events that were transferred to your iPhone via the iTunes sync process remain on your iPhone, and they probably will remain, turn Calendars back on for over the air syncing with your MobileMe account. A merge prompt will be provided, which you want to select.
    This will resolve it.

  • How to sync songs from 1 Itunes account to 2 separate computers

    Hi,
I have an Imac with about 4000 songs on it and these have been synced previously to my IPOD classic 160GB. I went away for a year and got a Macbook to use. I have purchased about 200 songs and uploaded several albums to this macbook. How can i sync them to my ipod without all the other songs being removed?

Each iTunes library has an internal id. If you connect your device to a new library with a different id then iTunes will want to erase and reload. You could connect the device to the original library, switch into manually managed mode, and then add content from any library. Otherwise you need to gather all of your content into one library, and if needed, clone that to the other machine. You cannot add content that is only located in the cloud to your device.

  • How do I remove music from itunes library but keep them in a separate folder on my mac?

I also wouldn't mind understanding which specific folders the itunes library imports my music from. Does it search my whole computer and automatically add any music files or does it search only a specific folder? Is there a way to tell it which folder to use? Basically I'd like to keep two folders, one that itunes imports and one that is just on my computer and doesn't go to itunes. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

You can't.  The reason is because the actual photos are all in the camera roll.  The albums only contain links to these photos, not duplicate photos.  (Albums work like music playlists.  Music playlists also don't contain duplicate songs either; they only contain links to the songs in your music library.)

My husband and I both have iPhones . How do I use one iTunes account to share music, photos and apps, and keep our email accounts separate since all data will use the iCloud function.

You shouldn't be using the same account on phone iphones. Have him setup his own and make sure his iCloud is logged in with that one

You need to reconfigure your phone for use with your Apple ID. I suggest you restore yours as new then reconfigure it with your information and Apple ID. Be sure to disable Find My Phone, if it's enabled, before proceeding.

  • HT204053 My husband and I both have iPhones but we only have one iPad. We use the same apple ID because we also share the same email address. How would this work with iCloud because we don't share the same contacts?  Thanks Elainecontacts

My husband and I both have an iPhone and we share an iPad. We also share the same email address so how would this work with iCloud because we don't share all the same contacts?
    Thanks

An icloud account is designed to be used by one user.  That user can have all his/her devices synced with the same Apple data (email, contacts, calendars, notes, reminders, etc.) .  When two people use the same account, then problems usually occur when one user edits data that the other user doesn't want changed on their device.  You can continue sharing the same ID for the itunes account in order to share the purchased music, apps, etc.  itunes accounts and icloud accounts are different.
It's by far better that each user has his/her own icloud account.

You can continue to use the current AppleID for iTunes, but your husband can create a new AppleID to use to create a new iCloud account that will be his own and not overlap with yours.  If you do not have another email address to use for an AppleID, just get a free Gmail account and use that.
You can have as many AppleIDs as you want (or at least, as many as you have email addresses for).  You can use a separate AppleID for the store, another for iCloud, and even another for iMessage if you wish.
You will want to keep the current one as the shared one for the store as all your previous purchases are permanently tied to it, and thus you need that AppleID to update or redownload your current purchased content.
