HVR-M15 causes all firewire media to go offline

Just a heads up: (using the Sony HVR-M15 with 5.1.2).
Many times, but not always! When I switch the M15 deck off, I get a message from the finder telling me that the firewire device was not ejected properly, and then FCP take all the media in all the firewire drives offline. Relaunching FCP and trashing the thumbnail cache brings everything back online, but there is a bug somewhere I guess.
Has anyone else had this problem?

No it seems to happen whenever it fancies doing it. I've just tried it with log and capture open, just closed and nothing yet opened but the project file; and it gave the same errors every time. I think it causes a firewire bus problem, because one of the external drives unmounts for a second, not both of them though, it unmounted the one going in the firewire 800 port (I have another going in a firewire 400 port on the screen, (and the M15 going into the other 400 port on the screen.)

I know this was a previous posting but I couldn't see a solution to it and it has now been archived. When I'm using FCP or even when I'm not, when I switch off the HVR M15 deck it causes the Lacie drive connected via Firewire 800 to un-mount. If FCP is open the media automatically goes offline. Does anyone know a reason for this or even better a solution.

BB 9360 - resetting and losing all my media!

Hi,
I've noticed that my new blackberry 9360 keeps resetting & everytime it does this it loses all my media - ie all my pictures and my music.
I have v7.1.0.336 platform 9.6.0.51 - 7.1 bundle 1133
Is this a known problem with blackberries?
It's a new phone so I'm assuming it's under warranty so I can always get it replaced if it's a problem.
Please help - it's annoying!!!

Hi and Welcome to the Community!
What you describe is absolutely not normal. Sometimes a BB will randomly reboot itself, but it is very unusual for that to cause any data wipe whatsoever. Something is definitely wrong there.
There are things you can try on your own (e.g., a clean OS reload, or a "bare bones" OS reload and then a slow reload of additional things, etc.), but if you don't want to deal with it (and, being new, if I were you I'd not want to deal with it!), then you definitely should take it in for warranty evaluation.

I am trying to upgrade to 10.5 from 10.0 ,i download upgrade ok but when i install i get error F/ invalid . i have all my media on G/ how do i change where to install to as cannot find it anywhere

I don't use Windows (Thankfully!) but there should be an option in the installer to change the installation destination and I'm pretty certain the default would be on the drive Windows is installed on.

Anything that was on the phone is already gone. You have no choice but to restore. If you were backing up and syncing the phone on a regular basis, you should be able to restore your backup with minimal data loss.

Is it possible to use Time Capsule as my Itunes media folder? So I could store all my media out of my mac, but still can synchronise Ipad and Iphone with all those media stored on TC out of my mac.

I want to store all my media on my Time Capsule.
Can I use TC as the defaut folder for medias in Itunes? If so, will the synchronisation with Iphone and Ipad be possible?

HT202412 I want to delete all my files in Final Cut and start fresh. Will that be accomplished by deleting application and reinstalling? I am worried all the media will be there again.

Media and contacts are NOT part of the iPhone backup. Media should already be in your iTunes library and contacts should be in whatever address book or cloud service you were syncing them to. Just re-sync them to the phone.

I have, by mistake, caused all my photos in a large book I am making to revert to the original. This after a long time spent editing etc. I don't understand how iPhoto library works. I have aTime Machine. I also have an EHD backed up 2 days ago.

BUt it I don't understand iPhotos library. If I replace existing library from Time Machine, all my projects, albums etc. be there as they were before my BIG mistake?
I have read that Time Machine is not suitable for back ups of iPhoto so should I try to use my EHD? In finder it just shows 'iPhotoLibrary'. So the same question arises - does the Library incorporate all my projects and the work I've done on them up to the date of back up?

All my media is on a portable hard drive. I installed Itunes on a new computer, and scanned the portable hard drive, thus creating a new library on the new computer. The portable drive now has a different drive letter. Now, the library cannot locate any of the songs because when it was created it (I assume) linked to the other drive letter. Now, from what I understand, I can select a (song, album etc) and then browse to the new location. But I have thousands of songs.
I need a way to re-identify as the whole group. And because this is a portable hard drive, this could happen on a daily basis, so I know there must be some other process I am missing. I guess I could delete the library and rescan the drive and create a new library every time I reconnect the hard drive, but that seems inefficient and time consuming. Oh, Windows 8.1 and Itunes 12.1.1.4, if that matters.
Am I missing some simple step to this?

See turingtest2's user tip on Make a split library portable - the best approach is to have the complete library (database, artwork, etc. as well as media) on the external drive. This layout is not only robust against changes in drive letters, but also means that the external drive can be used with any system running iTunes - just hold down SHIFT while starting iTunes and select the library on the external drive.
A quick fix, of course, is to use Windows' Disk Management facilities to reset the external HDD's drive letter to match the locations stored in the iTunes database.

Why, if it told you you have insufficient space on your computer, would it suggest making more space available on your phone?
At a guess, you have insufficient space on your phone. Installing software will typically require more space than the final size of the software, perhaps even twice or three times as much, for the installation process. You can easily dump some videos or music temporarily, and then synch them back in afterwards.

Changing filename causes all finder windows to close

changing a filename causes all open finder windows to close and desktop icons to briefly disappear. This problem just started. Anybody have this problem?

How does 1 ASM instance in a 10 node RAC cause all 10 ASM instance to hang

Yesterday we had one of the ASM instance on our 10-node cluster hang with a latch "ASM file allocation latch". Oracle support has stated we are hitting a bug with is fixed in the latest PSU.
What I am trying to understand is how a latch on one ASM instance caused all 10 ASM instances to hang?
Oracle Supports explanation still does not answer how all 10 ASM instance were affected other then the faulty code that the patch fixes. Bellow is info out of the SAR.

Next ARC0 PID 17398 reports ORA-16146: 'control file enqueue unavailable' at Thu Oct 28 11:36:52 2010. This means ARC0 PID 17398 tried to access the controlfile and it could get the lock.
ARC1 PID 21508 is then killed at Thu Oct 28 11:49:57 2010.
Killing enqueue blocker (pid=21508) on resource CF-00000000-00000000 by (pid=23078) by killing session 5.3
We see that RSM has been restarted by Broker. This matches to the alert.log and messages showing RSM being restarted several time. i.e. RSM0 started with pid=84, OS id=27915
Since this started happening around 11:14, the problem may have really started then instead of w/ the CF enqueue block.
The primary appears to be shipping redo to the standby using asynchronous mode. Unless there was a gap, I do no know if ARC1 should have been doing any remote network I/O. Because a log switch to thread 1 sequence 5235 had just happened at 11:33am, I suspect it was a local disk I/O that was started at least. The ORA-240 is reported at 11:35, exactly 120 sec (or 2min) from this log switch. Notice also the entry to show the log thread 1 sequence 5234 was registered to the controlfile didn't happen yet.
ASM Side:

From the systemstate dump on ASM, multiple processes are waiting on 'ASM file allocation latch' and we are kind of stuck on stack:

This caused the hang on the ASM side and hence ASM was not responding to the database. The CF Enqueue issue on the database was a side effect of this.
This is a direct <BUG:9232266> which is a duplicate of <BUG:8974548>

I was little reluctent to open a tar since my experince says that its better to troubleshoot the issue yourself instead of spending time with the Oracle support :)
Well, I got some more information on this : the sql for the process id of ASM instance is :
Alter Diskgroup mount all;
It looks like it is unable to mount the diskgroup and get hunged at that point , is it due to the new disk added to the system or do we missed something after adding the new disk.
Also, the ASM process can not be killed from unix box while the ASM is down.
Will appreciate your time if we can move in any directions from here ..

I have a FCP event and project with all accompanying media saved on a harddrive. I am now attempting to open the files on another computer that also has FCP X. I cannot figure out how to get it to open.
