HVX200 slow motion ?

I shot 720PN at 60 frames per second with the Panasonic HVX200. I used FCP "Log and Transfer," and it created Quicktime files on my scratch disk just fine. When I play one of those files in the Quicktime player, it actually has 60 separate frames per second - I counted them. So far, so good.
But when I import that file into FCP (Sequence set at 720 P / 24 fps), it will not play as a slow motion shot. It plays at regular speed; I can see people walking around at normal speed.
I tried using Modify - Speed to reduce the clip to 40%, but that just duplicates frames and gives a stuttering look. I can't figure out how to get all 60 fps in Final Cut Pro. Anybody know what I'm doing wrong?

I set the camera to FILM CAM, then selected 60 fps in the first menu, then set the record setup to 720/24PN. I thought this would "overcrank" the shot.
Nope...that didn't do it. YOu set the camera up at 720p60 and the frame rate at 24fps. Then it records 60frames to 24 frames...thus slowing it down. Play with this setting...
But when I put the clip into the Timeline (Sequence settings are 720P / 24 fps), the clip does not play like slow-motion; it plays at regular speed.
Yup...because just dropping 60fps into a 24fps timeline does not slow it down.
If I use Modify - Speed to slow it down, it does not show all 60 frames, it just duplicates frames and creates a "stuttering" look instead of a smooth, slow look.
Correct...because that is NOT the way to slow down DVCPRO HD 60fps footage.
Is there a way to get the "overcranked" shot into FCP without having to convert it?
No. WHy are you against converting it? The FRC makes a new clip that is slow...so you have the main clip which is normal speed, and the new slow motion version. Why is that a problem?

Despite having read several how-to articles, I am still a little unclear on how to make best use of the HVX200's variable rate feature.
What I have done successfully is the slow motion feature that's described here:

First of all, is that generally considered the correct setup?
If so, what's the best way to handle something that I might want at normal and slow motion? For example, a skating coming towards the ramp should be at a normal frame rate but on the jump, I want to use slow motion. Would I shoot all of it at the faster rate described above, use that directly in the 24p timeline for the slow motion part and convert the rest the clip to 24p? That is what I assume, based on reading this
section of article on the History Channel shoot:
O’Brien added, “The most useful feature of the camera was its ability to shoot 24 or 60 frames for any particular shot. Having 60 frames to use as a slow motion shot in a 24 frame timeline was the closest I've come to the days of 16mm, where you could dial up to 72 frames for slow motion. The 60-fps shots can be easily converted in Final Cut Pro to 24-fps if we decide not to use the shot as slow motion. Knowing this, we were unafraid and shot anything that we might want to be slow motion at 60 frames. This gave us a freedom we would not have had on film, where a slow motion shot would be expensive to convert back to normal.
Just writing this down is making me think more clearly that this is the best path but opinions would be much appreciated.

You adjust speed in the Modify menu. Select Modify>Speed or press Command/J.

Tried to shoot 60 FPS for slow motion, but ...

I have a DVCPro HD clip, 720P, 59.94 frames per second. I was hoping to get a medium slow-motion effect in FCP. So I imported it and put it in a 23.97 frames per second sequence. It shows at regular speed. Hmmm...
I looked at the clip in the Viewer. I found a part of the action that lasts one second, and I counted 60 frames for that second. But in the Sequence, that same action shows only 24 frames.
Then I got a brilliant idea! I used Modify - Speed to slow it down to 40%. I hoped I would see all 60 frames of that one-second bit of action. But instead of showing all 60 frames, FCP uses only about 24 frames, and copies each frame once or twice to stretch out the action. So the action looks jumpy instead of smooth.
A friend last last month shot something with the Panasonic HVX200 at DVCProHD 59.54 FPS, and he got a smooth slow motion effect in FCP. But he moved out and isn't answering his phone.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

I owe everyone an apology, because I gave the wrong information about the video file. As you will recall, I was frustrated that it appeared to play at only 23.97 frames per second in Final Cut Pro, even though I thought I had shot it at 60 fps. Yesterday I discovered why it appeared to play at a different frame rate, but the reason was so bizarre, so unbelievable, that I began to doubt my own sanity.
Friends, the video clip changes frame rate in the middle! Yes, it does. You see, I had been looking at a portion of the shot with the lower frame rate; later in the same shot, the frame rate increased to 60 fps. You may ask, how is this possible? I do not know. I only know that I shot it with the little Sanyo HD1000 camcorder, which records as AVCHD (h.264), and the clip changed to a slower frame rate when the shot got darker, then back to 60 fps when the shot got brighter. Apparently the camcorder reacted to the lack of light by decreasing the frame rate, in order to have time to gather more light for each frame.

Slow Motion w/60fps DVCPro50

I've just gotten an HVX200 which allows me to shoot 60fps in DVCPro50 at 30pn and I was expecting more from my slow-motion shots. I shot some hummingbirds (as an experiment). . .while I didn't expect to see wings clearly when I slowed it down, I find that even their movement around the feeder is very blurred.
I set the speed to 10% in my timeline and the timeline is set for DVCPro50 720p60 with a framerate of 29.97fps. So far, I've only imported into a timeline, changed the speed and looked at in the canvas. Does anyone know off the top of their heads if I'm doing something wrong, or if it will just look this blurry if I slow it down to 10%? Maybe it will look better when it's transferred to DVD and viewed on a TV screen?
Any help or opinions on this would be appreciated. Thanks,

You gotta use the DVCPRO HD FRAME RATE CONVERTER...in the TOOLS menu. If you don't see it, then look on your installer disk. It is an EXTRA that needs to be installed.

Slow motion lost after sync from mac to iphone

Hi,
I can capture videos in slow motion but those videos play at normal speed once Sync them via iTunes.
1. Capture videos in slow motion.
2. The videos first play in slow motion in the iPhone. There is a time line slider to move the slo-mo effect back and forth.
3. I do a back-up via iTunes including videos.
4. After syncing, the videos in the iPhone appear in one album called "Slo-Mo".
5. In the thumbnail of the video clip I can see the small dial icon that all other slow motion videos have.
6. Playing the video shows a normal speed clip without the timeline slider under the video frames view.
The videos DO retain the slo-mo "effect" in Aperture and iPhoto also. Not in the iPhone after syncing.
Any hints to solve this? thanks

Hi,
iOS 8.1 didn't fix the issue so here is my workaround to " show-off " my slow motion clips:
I have tried to open the clips with iMovie in the iPhone. ( I guess not everyone has iMovie installed...?)
So, you can create a new project in iOS iMovie and import the clip you want. Slow motion clips preserve the little dial icon so you can see which ones have the slo-mo effect. It will preserve the slow-motion sections of the original clip and will play "slow".
If for some magical reason your clip doesn't play "slow" in iOS iMovie click on the small "tachometer" icon and select the desired speed.
So. iMovie does know the clip has enough frames to play in slow motion... why the camera app doesn't ?

I'm on windows xp pro by boot camp and I have sometimes some slow motion. It's a problem when i'm listening music. I didn't find virus with avast antivirus and my computer used to be clean with Ccleaner and Spybot search and destroy.
What can i do?

IPhone 6 Plus IOS v8.1 Slow Motion BROKEN

Film in either of the two slow motion speeds and plays back ok on phone. I put the files in the computer (grab the raw file via explorer), on Win 7 Professional, and played with both windows media player AND Quicktime player (up to date players) and the videos play either no slow motion, plays alternating between fast and slow, one time it played slow but had normal voice pitch, other times played slow with low voice pitch. On youtube, they don't play in slow motion. One I shot vertically (which I did just as a test) and it was sideways in the computer, however, youtube rotated it so it's vertical but it is not in HD and it does not play back in slow motion. This same file that was sideways in my computer stopped playing after about 2 seconds in the computer, but played through ok in the phone. I noticed that as the video plays in the phone, there are blue vertical lines below the left/right scrub/scroll bar for the video. This can be set to play only a portion in slow motion. But WHY does it start each video with the ends nudged in so the first 3 sec is regular speed and the last 2 are also reg speed also w/the slo-mo in between? It defaults to this each time an you have to spread it out to get all slow motion..
In Win XP, some of the video files don't show up. It shows .aae files with corresponding numbers to the videos, but most of the videos are not there.
I think this is a huge software bug that needs to be tested. I updated the os on my new phone before I put anything into my phone. Everything else has been perfect till this. HELP!

You said, "...plays back ok on phone." That's where Apple's software stops. Your problems with Win 7, Win XP, Quicktime, and YouTube need to be addressed on forums for those programs and/or sites. Presumably the issue has already been resolved by users on those sites, with different solutions for each.

Slow motion / fast motion in Premiere Elements 13

I read that in Premiere Elements 13 fast motion (and I think also slow motion) ist removed. Is that correct. And if yes: Is there any workaround available?

Great information. If you have been using Ctrl+R, that is the keyboard shortcut that brings up the Time Stretch dialog.
Time Stretch (use of the Ctrl+R) has not been removed from Premiere Elements 13 Expert workspace.
Like Premiere Elements 11, Time Stretch is found in the Expert workspace and not in the Quick workspace.
When you use the keyboard shortcut Ctrl+R, I get Time Stretch dialog from where I can create the slow or fast motion effect in the selected clip.
The following relates to Premiere Elements Timelapse Capture (Stop Motion) which has been removed from
Premiere Elements 13 as a specific feature that you see in Premiere Elements 11 and 12.

SAP B1 Patch 42 GUI, Vista SLOW MOTION

I just don't know if I'm alone with this.
I didn't find any thread about it.
I've successfuly installed SAP B1 2005A SP001, Patch 42 on Windows Vista Home Premium. Everything works find
Except
When windows pop, its slow like hell. You know this animation when you open let say Sales Invoice window.
Well in Vista, it takes at least 10 seconds like if everything was in slow motion. But when the window is there, everything still works as normal !
Any idea ? Any patch ? Anything ?

Nice link but I'm not on version 10 but 42 and there's no error and no problem. Just the GUI is slow.
I don't think Vista is to blame but rather the poor SAP GUI which really need a fix since a LONG LONG time
that would also probably fix the problem of .NET WinForms not sitting on top when called from SAP
I'm more looking if someone knows something about it, a patch for the GUI or even a registry key that would disable the SAP window animation.

Not it's only function but one for which it was most admirably suited, which is why I really hope someone can find a work around. I am hoping my post to the Apple feedback may prompt a useful response from Apple and I live in hope that my post here will elicit a useful response from another user. I did not miss the the text at the top of the feedback form but you presumably missed my initial text, 'someone here can explain' or my subsequent 'work around from another user'
Just in case anyone reading this has a large collection of music videos, video podcasts or iTunes U then DO NOT upgrade your iPad to iOS 5. If you are considering purchasing the iPad as a useful mobile device to experience these media organised in your iTunes please don't as you will be wasting your money. (unless someone on this forum knows of a way to undo the mess created by those infallible folks at Apple)

Quicktime plays video in slow motion

Quicktime plays my video from a Sony NEX-3 camera [H.264 MP4 files] in slow motion. The images plays at a reduced speed, while the sound plays at full speed. One consequence is that image and sound is completely out of sync. The video plays fine in iMovie and MPEG stream clip.
I tried in two Macs: a Macbook Air (10.6.6) and a Macbook (10.6.5) and on both the video is slow motion, but on the Macbook it is extreme slow motion, while on the Macbook Air it is slight slow motion [mainly noticeable through lack of sync between image and sound].
Video from iPhone 4 plays without problems in Quicktime.
Since iMovie plays the Sony video fine, I would assume it is not a Sony video problem, but a bug in Quicktime. How do I get Apple to fix that bug?

Help! Movies from iPhone 5 play in slow motion when opened in Quicktime on PC

I was hoping someone may have the answer or have encountered this problem as well, as I have been unable to find anything on it elsewhere on the net.
I have transferred some movies, taken on my iPhone 5, to my PC. However when they are opened in Quicktime (as recommended) they play in slow motion.
However, the sound still plays at normal speed.
I have already tried going into the QT settings where you can speed up the playback, but this doesn't work either, no matter how fast I set it to - they still play super slow.
Although they are taking up heaps of space, I am worried to delete the movies off the iPhone in case they have not copied over properly and I lose the originals!
Any suggestions?

We are running on Windows XP, is that what you mean? I will try and download the VLC player and see what happens. Are iPhone 5 movies higher res than iPhone 4, as we can play those?
If it is the system, do you know whether or not if I save the movies to our PC, then transfer than to another computer, should they play ok? I just don't want to delete them off my phone and have them permanently slow, iykwim?
Sorry if my ignorance is showing - I'm not overly tech savvy when it comes to this stuff!

I have problems transmiting a video with slowe motion from my iphone 5s to my TV through apple tv. I just hear the sound. Do not see image. Any idea???

Hi. After after trying too upload from the Facebook app, I found out that the video isn´t saved as a finished video. (you can still edit it)
I used the iMovie app to save the movie as new finished movie. Open iMovie , those video, select your video, click the share button i down right corner. Push create movie (I guess, mine is in danish) play the movie or not, push the back button, change the name or not, push the share button, save the the movie. Now you have a finished movie, that can be shared as any normal movie.

Hdv with slow motion does flicker

I´m editing now some clips at 1080 i and I need to use some slow motion clips. I use speed at 60 % and also active frame blendding and all it´s ok and I haven´t any trouble with the video. But when I do render I can see a big flicker at the picture. I put some deinterlace or flicker filter and all beccomee good but when I do render another time and export the movie I can see the flicker. The trouble is like final cut can´t apply the filters because if I mark frame blending at speed and save it, when I open fcp another time the effects was not in this place.

Maybe it has something to do with HDV? Can you switch your sequence rendering to ProRes? CMD+0 to enter your sequence settings. Click on the Render Control tab. Under Codec, choose Apple ProRes.
