Hw do I share files between my laptop and my desktop?

How do I 'share' files between my laptop and my desktop?

Set up a Network:
If each of your computers can access the Internet without changing cables, your Network is already in place.
The rest is just configuring as Niel suggests.

  • Bespoke Digital Media: How can i share files between my iPhone5 and other company phones ?

    hi
I am from Bespoke Digital Media. I wants to share files between iPhone5 and Samsung galaxy S4. How should i do this? Kindly help me.

Not sure what type of files you are trying to share, but you can't use Bluetooth.
Emails/text the files to each device.

  • Can't share files between 10.6 and 10.4 macs

When I try to  copy a file from my MacBookPro running 10.6.8 to my pb-g4 running 10.4.11 first I get a request for my password, next I get an alert saying, "A newer  item named xxxx already exists in this location. Do you want to replace it with the one you're moving?" When this alert shows up, yes, the title of the file with size zero KB has newly appeared on the 10.4 mac. I click replace and get an alert that says, "The operation can't be completed because an item with the “” already exists." But the file didn't exist in that location before trying to copy.  How do I fix this other than using sneakernet technology.
The reason I  need to do this is that I want to print on a networked Kyocera Mita CS2050 printer.  There appears to be no driver for the printer compatible with OS 10.6. If I use a generic driver, I have no access to printer features like two sided printing.

I know the 10.4 driver won't work in Snow  Leopard. That's why I'm trying to transfer files to my old Powerbook from which  I can  print.  The Kyocera Mita Copystar 2550 is a laser printer/copier, so as far as I know, GutenPrint won't work with it. I downloaded new drivers from Kyocera Mita, but I  can't get Snow Leopard to work with it.
The Copystar is connected via ethernet. It works fine from other 10.4 macs.
The ironic thing is that I also have an older hp color Laserjet 3550 (usb). About 5 years ago it stopped working on  10.4 and if I  wanted to print anything, I had to restart my powerbook in 10.5 or print through my daughter's computer.  When I got my MacBookPro 10.6, the hp works fine.
But the more serious problem is that I need to be able to share files between these computers. I have no problem copying files to another 10.4 mac on the network, just to the  powerbook.

  • How can I easily sync and share pdf files between my laptop and iPad?

I frequently download pdf documents on my laptop, from websites, emails, etc, and would like to drop them into a folder which then syncs with my iPad so that I can read them later.  Is there a way to do this, an app, etc, so that the iPad could access the documents.  I expect this to either be an on-the-air automatic synch or a Cloud based solution where both laptop and iPad synch to the cloud folder.

    Hi lenpan,
I use Dropbox and it works great. Its a cloud solution so while your iPad doesn't automatically "sync" it can always read from the cloud and you can set files to be available offline.
First sign up for a free Dropbox account from your computer.
Then, download the free Dropbox app on your iPad.
You can then set up a folder on your computer to drag your documents to. This folder syncs with the Dropbox server. The Dropbox app on your iPad can read from your account on Dropbox so you have access to everything that you dragged from your computer to Dropbox. You can also set files on your iPad to be available offline.
    Hope this answers your question!

  • Can i remotely share files between macbook pro and iMac

Want to know if I can do remote file sharing between macbook pro and imac.

Yes, absolutely. She can access her iMac from anywhere that has an Internet connection. If Screen Sharing is enabled, she can log in and use it as if she were seated at the iMac.
Provided the iMac's router supports the Bonjour Sleep Proxy (obviously all Apple AirPort Base Stations do), the iMac can even be asleep, and BTMM will wake it upon the router receiving a request to access the iMac.
The speed of her available Internet connection will be a limiting factor. Slower connections will be a bit laggy.
Her iMac will appear in a Finder Sidebar, under "Shared".

  • I need to share files between to macs and I cannot seem to find an answer

    Hi All
My biggest issue is that I have two macs and want to share files should as my Rapidweaver websites, my dosh (accounts package) master files, etc
I had tried Mobileme for a time and could seem to get it to do what I wanted.
I would like to be able to have my imac as the master, but be able to work from my macbook, eg if I want to work outside of the office in the house be able to just use the most up to date file of my website in rapid weaver (as I have 3 licenses)
    Can this be done?
I had tried th network sharing to access the desktop, but my partner complains that his web viewing slows down too much

Of course it can be done but you need to have a few things in place.
    * a fixed address so you can reach your computer at home (or a way to dynamically adjust for changes)
    * your computer needs to have a public address, or you need to set up your home network so it maps the ports you need to the right inside address.
    * You need to enable file sharing on the target Mac, share the appropriate folders, and set up an account with access.
    * You won't have proper file locking, so sharing files that may be open on another machine can cause corruption. If you're sharing files from your website while the website is active, that could cause trouble.

  • Share files between Arch Linux and XP Home

Hi, I have an Arch Linux desktop and a XP Home Laptop both connected to a Billion 7401 ADSL Router to get to the internet. If I am using any computer sometimes I have a need to use files from the other one, and from an external HDD connected to the XP laptop. I have been googling for the last 3 weeks but could not find a concrete solution to this issue, maybe because I don't understand much about networking or p2p, and samba. Looks like I have to spend more money on either another computer to be setup as a server or on a router or hub or switch? But I thought my Billion Router is already a router? I wonder if you can please help me to solve this problem or point me to a good link? Thanks a lot.

SSHFS is another more Linux native option for sharing files (and it can be compatible with XP too using special programs).
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SSHFS
    http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Sshfs
As I understand it XP Home uses simple file sharing which can be really insecure depending on your needs.  Once when I ran a computer with Linux and was needing to set up a samba share I discovered massive issues since (at the time) I was connecting regularly over a shared wireless network among untrusted persons.  I ended up looking into using SSH tunneling to overcome the issues associated with XP Home's Simple File sharing and that is when I came across SSHFS.
Whatever you do make sure to read this about XP Home's "Simple Filesharing"
    http://www.centerlineit.com/index.php?v … q&Itemid=9
    It's important you understand it.

  • Share files between PC Windows XP and Mac

I'm trying to share files between my mac and my spouse's PC.
I read the instructions at http://macs.about.com/od/macwindows/ss/sharemacfilesxp.htm . The instructions say that the Mac and PC need to be in the same ‘workgroup’ for file sharing to work.
My spouse's work PC does not have a workgroup selection. It only has a domain selection.
How can we share files over our network if no using a 'domain'?
I can enable filesharing from mac to mac but not from mac to pc.

  • Is there a way to exchange files between an iPhone and a mac?

    Hi there,
I know the iPhone does not support bluetooth (legally), but is there a way I can share files between the phone and a macbook NOT connected to the internet?
What I need to do is the following: I use the phone for work (bad choice, I know...) and need to be able to access e-mail and send files out. I am going to be away for a couple of weeks (I am based in the UK and going to Italy) and was thinking to use the phone for e-mailing (megabucks!!!) and the macbook to do some work that will need to be subsequently e-mailed, but as the iPhone does not support (legally at least) bluetooth, is there a way to load files onto the phone? I mean, it doesn't sound like rocket science.
I have to say, I am overall very disappointed with the iPhone as a tool to work with. Great for games, etc., but not for work. I am really tempted to toss it in the trash (or at least return it where I got it from).
I hope you can give me some good news here...
Besides as a general observation, I have been spending HOURS scouring the internet trying to find solutions to some basic issues I have with the iPhone... A piece of kit that is as expensive as all that should not be so difficult to use especially if all I am trying to get what would be considered a common feature in all bog standard phones, but that's another story... At least I have the digital compass and I can check stocks and shares to make me feel better...
    Thanks

I guess I'm confused then. DocsToGo and AirShare Pro both allow you to set up an adhoc network (direct wifi-based connection between the laptop and your iPhone, no wifi router/cell data connection required). You can then pass the documents back and forth between the two devices. I prefer DocsToGo, because it also allows you to edit/sync the docs back and forth. Is this not what you want to do? You can also email the document from within DocsToGo on the iPhone if desired.
If you want to upload/download using a service like DropBox (which will also require a data connection, either WiFi or cell-based) DocsToGo can access that cloud-based service.
Note that I'm NOT affiliated with DocsToGo, but I did read the instructions to find out all the stuff it can do

  • Sharing file between moutain lion and lion

To share files other MACs running Mt. Lion, you simply turn on AirDrop.  Without an internet or intranet, can you, and how do you share files between MACs running Mt. Lion and Lion?  How do you share files between Mt. Lion and any other older versions of OS X?

Here is a real-life example. My principal home machine is a 2011 Mac mini running OS X 10.8.3. My work laptop is a 2010 MacBook Pro with Lion. On the laptop, I enable File Sharing (afp) and export a project folder from the MacBook Pro and mount it on the desktop of the Mac mini.
Now, I can be more productive across two large monitors with the same applications and data; without concern for synchronizing final content. In my case, the work files remain on the laptop. Moving files between machines is a simple Finder operation.
WIthout a network, you can create your own with a length of CAT5(E) or better cable connecting each Mac Ethernet port. No need for a router in this (temporary) case. The alternative to this is a USB stick or where both machines have a reader, an SDHC data card.

  • Sharing files between mac os and windows on same computer???

I am going to get a new Intel based mac. Is there a way to share files between the mac and the windows os?
Example: I would like to share my iTunes music library from mac os so it is also available in Windows iTunes.
Is there a way to do this without having to mirror the entire library within Windows?
    Thanks!!!!

It also depends on how you want Windows to be working on your PC - do you want to have a dual boot system (i.e. you choose whether you want to use OS X or Windows when you turn the computer on) or do you want to use a 'virtualization' program like Parallels (i.e. Windows loads up as a window on your OS X desktop).
Depending on how you want to do things will affect the ease of integration between OS X and Windows. Via the virtualization route, what you want to do can be done in a couple of clicks - you go into network neighbourhood (in Windows) and set up a Network shortcut to the files you want. You can do the same trick via OS X using the 'Network' functionality in Finder.

  • Sharing files between my imac and my MacBook Air?

How do I share files between my imac and my 2nd generation MacBook Air?
I have my imac that holds alot of files that I want to transfer over to my MacBook Air. How do I do this at home through a wireless network. I enabled file sharing on my Imac and MBA. This did not work. Any Help would be greatly appreciated!
    Thanks.

I've used Apple's file sharing for years but two programs have made my life tons easier. One is the freeware DropCopy - install it on both computers and you'll see a black dot on your desktop. Drag a file onto the dot and it is copied to the other computer. If you have more than 2 computers you can easily select which computer gets the file.
The second is the freeware program DropBox. Like DropCopy you need to install the program on both computer. Unlike DropCopy, DropBox watches a folder on your computer called DropBox and any file put into it gets synced to the cloud and from there copied to the other computer. One of the great things about DropCopy is that you can also access your files via the Internet.

    hi,
somewhere on the windows machineshould be something like "network setup wizard". exactly where it is and what it is called i cannot remember off the top of my head, windows help is actually slightly useful here, it should have a link to it.
all the options checked on the mac are only what services the mac is offering to other machines, they have nothing to do with the services it can access (mostly...).
oh yeah, to actually connect to the pc after you have turned its sharing on, use the finder, or, when it does not show the pc (this happens on and off, possibly a refresh problem apple...) choose go --> connect to server and enter smb://<pc's name or ip>
to find the ip, the easiest way i think is
    start --> run --> cmd ->> ipconfig
