Hw do you import XDCAM proxy clips only in FCP?

I have Sony PDW-U1 deck with XDCAM disks. When I go into FCP, file, import, Sony XDCAM it launches
Sony XDCAM transfer. I then select the clips and then import them into a specified location. I then import these clips into FCP. When I import these clips my problem is is that it only imports the hi-rez clips. How do get XDCAM transfer to import the proxies and not the hi-rez clips?
Thanks
Patch 2000

If the clock was set on the camera it should break it up as it captures it. If not you have to split it manually just as you did in iMovie using keywords and favorites.

  • Can't transfer/import XDCAM files from harddrive into FCP

hi, i filmed all of my footage using an XDCAM and had to return the cams immediately. so i copied all the clips from the capture media to an external hard drive (everything within the BPAV folder) one to one. i also downloaded and installed the XDCAM EX Clip Browser on my MacBook Pro and can view the clips.
the problem i have is that i can't import the clips into FCP. the "Import> SONY XDCAM..." feature in FCP won't allow me to access these files. the BPAV folder remains greyed out.
what do i need to do to get the clips into FCP? is there a different plugin i need? the clip browser won't let me export the clips to any other format. i'm stumped. i run FCP computer on my G5 PPC Quad core. the file browser only runs on Intel macs. so i use my MBP to view the clips but that's all i can do.
can someone please help me out ?
    many thx!

in the spirit of armano'os last post and FYI: i picked up the cams on short notice, never used them before and there were no instructions. the ppl just told me to copy the files over to my HD, since i had to return the cams immediately and had no time to hook up the cams to FCP.
the 'mistake' i seem to have made was that i looked at the data structure and saw that the clips always ended up in the CLPR folder within each BPAV folder - each in its own folder in that fiolder and with XML and data files - so i copied directly to that one BPAV folder i copied from the first capture media i moved to my hard drive instead of copying the entire BPAV folder from each capture media. however i tested the import immediately to see if it actually played back the files in the XDCAM clip browser and they did.
i assumed all was fine with this method and it would save me a lot of duplicate BPAV folders... hopefully though this isn't the end.

  • FCP 6.0.3 & XDCAM EX-1 - How are xdcam MPEG4 clips processed by FCP

    Greetings,
I've been using XDCam Ex-1 clips in FCP for a while now.The FCP Sony XDCam import option is seamless, however now I need to send clients the QT .mov files of the clips for them to use on their systems - both FCP and Avid. I thought these were standard QT files but after importing they can see them in the viewer but when edited to time line its just black. I've had other problems with clients saying the QT files look 'jagged'. I've searched for a concise explanation of how FCP handles the BVAP files from the SXS cards but can't seem to find. Pls can someone explain what happens and what the limitations are or further exporting to enable the QT files to be user friendly. I need to know how does FCP unwrap the MPEG4 to make QT files. Are these standard QT that can can be viewed on any system or only Mac.? Current .mov files give the format as Apple XDCAM EX - does this mean without this codec others cannot import. If so, how can I send them the correct codec/version>?
    Very confused at this stage.
    Thanks
    Belinda

Hi, He has FCP 6 operating on 10.4.11 and current QT 7 .4.5. He wants to pull .mov clips into FCP to edit with. I had the same problem with another client - also on Mac and they couldn't read the .mov files either. Also Mac based system but using AVID. Their comment was that its the XDCAM codec which prevents it even being played back on QT and that I needed to provide standard QT files??? This would mean exporting every single clip as a QT movie (so that the format doesn't read Apple XDCAM).
I have hundreds of clips so this could take forever.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks

  • Archiving video clips only in FCP 10

I import video by inserting the SD card from the camera into the iMac's card reader. As I use the same card for videos and stills when I select archive from the FCP 10 import window it archives not only all the videos on the card, but the stills as well. That at least doubles the storage space and offers me no utility as I archive my stills separately.
Is there a way to control that behavior or a better way to archive the original video files? (Sort of like saving the original RAW file for a still image.)
    Thanks for any suggestions.

An archive of the card is precisely that, an archive. It is a faithful copy of what the card contained, so importing from an archive is just like importing from the original card.
If you already copied your stills somewhere else, and are going to erase the card afterwards, you can delete the stills from the card using the Finder, and then make the archive. Just make sure you keep the file structure in the card as it is.

  • Clipping footage in fcp

Hi all . Is fcp the best program to use when i need to shorten footage clips .
I have some footage and i have imported it in to fcp . The clips are long and i only want to use bits of them . Which is the best way i could clip sections of the footage and just keep them on the drive and delete the rest of the footage . i have limited drive space .
    many thanks

You can use the Media Manage in final cut pro to do this.
If you import all your clips into FCP and place the sections of clip you just want to use onto a sequence, then when you have everything, select that sequence in the browser window and go to the media manager. Choose the appropriate settings in media manager to delete un-used media in the sequence.
I always use the 'copy' setting in media manager to duplicate the media first into a new project, then open that new project and check everything is working and all your media is there. You can then delete ALL the original media manually in the finder (the new media will be copied into the 'media' folder created when you use media manager). This might not help if you have limited hard drive space as you'll be temporarily increasing the amount of media on your drive.

  • I can only see 5 minutes of an imported 16 minutes clip? Help!

So I import a new clip and iMovie tells me that 16+ minutes were imported, but when I'm viewing the clip once in iMovie it says that it is only 5:46... Then entire last 10 minutes of my video are gone.
    Any ideas?
Am I just not viewing the full clip somehow or did the import actual get screwed up?

    I would recommend this:
Right-click on your 16 minute clip (in the Event) and select "reveal in finder". Open it in QuickTime Player. See if all 16 minutes are there. If not, the import got screwed up.
If all 16 minutes are there, it could be that the process of generating thumbnails was interrupted. Close iMovie. You can go into the Event file in the finder and delete the folders called "iMovie Cache" and "iMovie Thumbnails". Then open iMovie and let it regenerate the thumbnails.

  • Scary Message Every Import  from my Sony PMW 320 XDCAM EX  Clip Files w/ Completed Time LIne

    Hello
This is the 3rd question I've posted working my way through my first edit (and HD edit) with Premiere Pro CS5.5, and I have a completed time line with the basic edit for an important event, my first for a client I hope to work for again.  Am now working on the title sequence at the beginning and also a "recap" with music and highlights at the very end.  Then I will be trying my first burn to a bluray -R disk on the LG 12x internal BRD unit in a high performance Mac Pro I had built at OWC.  10.7.5 Lion currently.
    3 types of files:
    1.  1080i 29.97 upper frame first, standard 1080i settings......from my B camera footage from a Sony NEX 5N.  28mbps I believe.  Example clip:  00018.MTS.  No issues or messages on the imports into the Project window.
    2.  Backup files same settings but 50mbps from Nanoflash recorder attached to my PMW 320 camcorder through the HD SDI output.  Example clip:  01253001.MTX.
Both of these above I just dragged their entire folders onto my internal master 2 disc Raid 0.  And then imported just the "clips" from each into the project window in each's own bin or folder.
    3.  Same scenario with my main files copying them from the large camcorder.  Example clip:  159_0221_01.MP4.  35mbps.  All 3 of these types of files have 29.97 fps indicated to the right.
But in the Project window when I selected initially all the clips from the drop downs inside the folder from the PMW 320 on the Master drive, and since then just some individual clips.....I keep getting this::  A window with "File Import Failure" in the top header and 5 lines of all the Volume codings within that Folder in the message box, and below it, "Error Message"  "File format not supported"  with an active "OK" button.  Which I have clicked and then gone ahead and worked with them.
But the clips in question are all in the project window and load fine into the Program Window or drag fine directly to the time line.  I have completed the whole sequence save for what I mentioned above.  Color correction, audio adjustments, slo motion, freeze frames, transitions, everything.  I have even taken a short piece of the time line and done experimental exports to self contained "Animation" codec clip,  H.264 clip and an MPEG 4 clip.  All were successful.  Last step coming soon will be export to 1080i 29.97 bluray.
I believe I have seen "MPEG 4" in the codec info on the PMW 320's clips.  Being that Premiere is supposed to handle every codec no problem, and that it seems to have done just that, what is going on here with these messages??  I have a ton of hours into this 1st edit and it all seems to work.  Do I not need to worry about this message even if I don't understand why I am getting it?
    Thanks much
    Ron

All that shows is the clips themselves, but yes I guess that could be happening.  So in the future from the PMW 320 import them 1st into Media Browser and then to the Project window?  (before taking them to Source window or directly to the time line)  Or just leave them in the Media Browser, and work it from there?
In the meantime, the fact it has all worked and seems to be working, would you think I'm OK since I've been able to do up to a massive 156gb Animation codec 16 minute portion of the sequence while I was first experimenting?   I am likely going to try the Dynamic Link function and Auto settings into Encore, straight from my time line of around 90 minutes.  Per the suggestion of Ann here in one of my other threads asking about that part.  Just to see if I can mail it on time on Tuesday if it looks good.

  • How do you make one long clip camera import FCPX

Does anyone out there know how to make one long clip from a DV camera import in FCPX???  Why the designers thought it was a good idea to chop the clips up during import is beyond me...

You're expecting one continuous take to import as one single clip, right?
From my experience with DV-format cameras like the Canon HV20, it's not unusual for there to be enough of a discontinuity (control track??) to create two or more successive clips when importing, dropping a small number of frames between clips. This could be caused by dirty heads or a tape that has been used more than it should.
A string of separate takes should import as separate clips, I believe.
    Hope this helps.

I just started using home sharing.  Does this allow you to share imported cd's or only purchased songs?

  • Different Audio Tracks when you import DVD VOB Files

I imported some vob files from a dvd and it only gives me the first audio track in premiere but i need the 2nd audio track. How do i tell premiere i only want the 2nd track?

    Colin Brougham wrote:
... would like to know for the future how to resolve this issue.
If there is no way to get the 2nd audio track then i would consider that to be a bug that hopefully Adobe can fix in next patch.
Ideally when you import a vob fileset premiere should automatically drop all the audio tracks into the timeline, not just the first one.
Don't use a DVD, plain and simple. The fact that we can edit this stuff at all is just a handy shortcut that works most of the time. I suspect that, given the nature of the material and the far greater precedence for native editing of professional camera sources, this is about as good as its going to get. You can certainly report it as a bug (which its not) or request it as a feature, but I sincerely doubt that this would be given a great deal of priority.
I'm not saying this just to be a jerky naysayer: the fact is that there is limited time and resources that go into development of each point release and each full version, and the things that benefit the most people have the greater likelihood of being fixed or included. I'd be surprised if even 1% of Premiere users needed this functionality. Believe me--I've wanted dozens of things that I know won't ever make it into the program, simply because they won't benefit many people. But make a feature request and see what happens...
wow??  what a terrible, mean, and unnecessary negative response?  "jerky naysayer" ??  never heard that term, but it sounds accurate.
Thats like walking up to someone and saying "i dont mean to be cruel, but your fat and ugly"
anyways, not sure what your point is, other than you have a crystal ball that tells you less than 1% of the premiere users in the world ever need to grab a b-roll from a dvd and i think i could find plenty of people who would disagree with you. I have been doing digital video editing for 20 years and been using premiere for about 15 years now i think since it first came out. I work at a tv station with lots of other video editors and we have all needed to pull a clips off dvd's many times in our lives. Im sorry that i dont have an XDCAM HD video tape of the first moon launch to capture, so for now i have to grab a clip from a dvd.
Thanks for your attempted "help" but i'd rather you not hiijack my thread by negating my questions and requests. My company has purchased probably over a million dollars in adobe software licenses over the years and there is nothing wrong with my opinions and requests.
    thanks

  • PP CS5, importing mp4's I only get 1 audio channel instead of all 4...?

    PC,
PP CS5, importing mp4's I only get 1 audio channel instead of all 4...? I put the clips in Vegas & all 4 channels appear. What can I do? Going insane!!!
    Steve

It's pretty simple... when you know how
Get ffmbc - FFMedia Broadcast .   This is a customized build of FFmpeg that is more geared toward   broadcast formats and applications. The latest "official" release (0.5)   will work.
Open the archive and find the "ffmbc.exe" file in  the "bin" folder. Drop it into the folder with the MP4s--or if you know  how to set up a custom path, you could do that too.
Create a new  text file called something like "mp42mxf-4mono.bat" making sure that you can  see file extensions; you need to have the .BAT extension. Make this file  in the same folder as the MP4s and FFmbc.
Paste the following into the batch file:@ECHO OFF
    for %%a in (*.mp4) do ffmbc -i "%%a" -vcodec copy -acodec pcm_s16le -f mxf -y "%%~na".mxf -acodec pcm_s16le -newaudio -acodec pcm_s16le -newaudio -acodec pcm_s16le -newaudio
Save it--again making sure it has a .BAT  extension--and then double-click it to run it. It will rewrap all of the  MP4s as MXF files that will import into Premiere. It will also retain the original four mono tracks as four mono tracks in the destination MXF.
That's all there is to it. Save that script, and you can recycle it whenever you get a batch of these types of problematic files in. Note that it's a completely lossless rewrapping, and should only take a few moments (or minutes, if you have a lot of footage, I suppose). Let me know how that goes.

  • Share selected clips only button not enabled for videocamera

iMovie HD 06. I have 3 adjacent, no transitions clips from one iMovie that I am trying to "share" back to the video camera (I had manipulated/extracted and added audio effects to these 3 clips, which don't cut and paste from existing iMovie to a new project) plan was to share to tape, then reimport from tape back to a different iMovie (to at least get the audio back). Unfortunately the "share selected clips only" button is never enabled. Really don't want to share entire movie. Any ideas?

Well that would make too much sense! iLife 05 Quicktime did not maintain widescreen so I was not keen on trying, but (as you probably knew) iLife '06 quicktime is a nicer beast. Actually went into Apple Store and turned out that, more or less, a combination of forum suggestions........WORKED! So to others that have not been able to cut and paste clips that have had audio extracted, etc.with iLife '06: put playhead a bit before your targeted consecutive clips, click and drag from below the audio tracks upwards and to the end of the target. File, Export, Quicktime, Full Quality, Share. Pick your location to share to. And there you go. Then open a new/existing project, Import (find your desired clips), Open. Your clips with audio, special effects all import without a hitch.
    Have you tried it?

  • Problems importing the same clips from diferents cards  IMAC and CS5

Hi, I'm having trouble importing my clips recorded in The ex1, I'm using CS5 with an imac, The problem is that when I import the same clips recorded in two cards, the second card comes exactly with what is inside the first card.  It does not have what was originally in it, it just copies what was on the first card or vice versa.  But the original folder in my drive is intact with the two cards intact. The problem is when I import it to CS5 on IMAC.  When i import the video the imac makes a long file with all the clips an puts them together except the clips from the previous card, it shows but with the same video that is in the begining of the second card or the last clip recorded in the second card .I tried to import the clip again from the first card and it comes with the same video from the second card again.

    1) Don't know why this is happening. It may have something to do with
I downloaded from iCloud the same library I was working with
I'm not clear what procedure you're using here. Using a cloud for storage might change some file tags. Generally users I think keep the library on the same drive as the media, keeping the library backups on the system. There is no real benefit in keeping the media in a separate location. Often users will keep the library in the same folder as the media. It makes backing up using tools like Carbon Copy Cloner very efficient.
1a) This can be difficult to find as there sometimes is no obvious indicator. It might be a missing element in a compound clip, a missing or altered layer in a graphics file, a missing font, a missing effect. These will show up inside the item involved, but may not be apparent in the browser. A missing transition for instance will not be seen until you skim over the project or try to export it.
    2) The 43 MB is a small amount of optimized media. This never prevents relinking. The library is always looking for original media, or proxy media if you're in proxy playback. It never looks for optimized media. If it has it, it uses it, if it doesn't, it uses the original media. If you are using original/optimized playback, you must have the original files. The optimized files are not enough.

  • IPhoto not importing T4i movie clips

Just got a canon t4i.  Took it out for a test run. Shooting Video only. Came back to import to iPhoto then import to iMovie.  I have it set at 24 frames ps.  Of the 353 small clips only one up loaded, and I can't find it in iPhoto.  The rest were never imported to iPhoto.  Window came up that said Error importing image.  That's all the info I got.  I tried it 8-10 times, every time it said the same thing. I did find one clip, it played back total black in QuickTime.
    What's my problem?
    Thanks and sincerely

  • Peremiere Pro CC import issue while importing XDCAM 422 50 MXF file

Hi I also posted into the german board, but got no reply - so now I'm gonna try it in the international board too:
I want to import XDCAM HD 422 50 footage into Adobe Premiere Pro CC. It's the current version. The footage was recorded with a Sony PDW 700. I copied the data directly from the disc to my HDD and kept the directory structure alive. I tried several plugins and also found just one: Calibrated{Q} MXF Import Overview to make it work. But in trial it's just possible to edit 750frames on each clip. So I'm very limited with that. I don't want to upgrade to full version and pay hundreds of $ for this. I guess Premiere should work with this format natively - I mean, it's a really common format!
Btw: I'm driving Premiere on a MBP 15" Retina with OsX 10.10.1 and the Error message is something like "file format not supported or damaged file". I have no issues while encoding the files to ProRes 422 - so I guess they're not damaged. But the encoding 3rd party tools also costs additional money.
Did one of you ever had problems like this?
I'm looking forward to hear from you guys.
Thanks in advance and all the best,
    Kalle

Your sequence settings will have no effect on PP's ability to actually import the footage.  Something else is going on.
