Hw upgrade (new motherboard)

Hi, I am going to change my mobo from an ASUS CUSL2-C (815EP) to an ECS N2U400-A (nForce2) and of course a new processor and memory. I am planning to use the integrated network an sound cards:
- (old) SB Live Value -->> (new) C-Media CMI9739A 6-channel audio CODEC Compliant with AC'97 2.2 specification.
- (old) Realtek 8139?? -->> (new) VIA® VT6103L 10/100 Mbps Fast Ethernet PHY.
What modules do I have to load instead of the old ones? Are there other things to do?
BTW I am going to change the Arch hd from its 3rd position in the IDE interface to the 2nd position. Will it be sufficient to change fstab or should I do somthing else?
Rgrds

Well, now that I have a whole new system (I changed motherboard, processor, memory, graphic card, sound card and PSU) I have to say that at  hardware level everything works fine with Arch. It only gave me a little headache the integrated MCP (not Soundstorm), but not the setup, it was the quality of the sound. So I went back to the SB Live and in the end got an new SB Audigy (Doom III owns my soul )
I have to say that Arch worked flawlessly just changing the mobo, however in Windoze2k I had an upsetting problem with some old graphics drivers that made my system reboot every OS load...
BTW, system specs:
ECS N2U400-A
Athlon XP 2600+ @ 2300 MHz (FSB 200)
512 MB RAM PC3200
SoundBlaster Audigy 2 ZS
Club-3D 6800
Sony SDM-HS73P (17")
Be Quiet! Titanium 520 W
And a wonderful mark of 55 f.p.s. in the timedemo demo1 at 1280x1024 @ High Quality
When will Carmack release the binaries for linux? I can't wait

  • Correct way to install new MotherBoard?

What's the correct way to install a new MB?
Do I format first, unhook the old stuff and hook up the new then install windows?
    Thanks for the time.

Please read this - Moan Guide
Please create a signature of your current system (if you have one!!!) or else of the individual parts you wish to assemble.
When first building a new system it is always preferable to start afresh with clean hard drives, and a fresh OS install.
However, if you already have a system up and running and you are just upgrading the motherboard, then it is possible to keep an existing OS + data installation and update the relevant drivers.
IMHO, unless I had some VERY precious data and no other way of storing it whilst updating, I would start with a newly formatted hard drive and a fresh OS installation.

  • New motherboard can i reuse my OEM product key

is it possible to use the windows 7 product key from my PC that came with the old motherboard on a new motherboard that i have right now and then use my upgrade key that i used earlier on the other motherboard to upgrade to windows 8 again with the same
key? or would i have to buy a new windows 7 key and then use the upgrade key to get 8 again or.. would i just have to buy a whole new windows 8 key... i don't exactly make the largest amount of money i just got a new motherboard and CPU for my birthday i have
the same harddrive same everything else except the mobo and cpu

    Hi,
    I agree with britishdhez.
In addition, normally the OEM Windows license is tied to the motherboard. It could not work with new motherboard.
Meanwhile, you can post to Windows 7 Genuine Advantage forum to get more insights.
    http://social.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/home?forum=genuinewindows7
Or, you’d better to contact the laptop manufacturer directly to consult the issue. In this way, your issue can be fixed efficiently.
    Hope it helps.

    OK few things:
    1. If you're planning for Motherboard upgrade, I suggest you buy new more powerful laptop. Cost wise & other issues arising following upgrade, that is the wise thing to do.
    2. All the compatible boards available for your laptop model support max 8gb
    3. By " more powerful motherboard ", if you meant more powerful processor, the compatible HM86 laden Intel board would support only i7 4702MQ processor, which is not going to give great performance boost compared to your current processor - both are quad core , with only slight increase in turbo boost frequency , with same base frequency.
    4. The best thing to do is to replace HDD with SSD. The price is not going to bother you much since you're already ready for board upgrade in the first place.
You can upgrade RAM to 8gb from 4gb, put another 4gb of same configuration and preferably brand in the other slot. Refer manual for these.
    Good Luck!

  • Upgrade my Motherboard

    Hello.
I bought a new MSI Nvidia gtx 960 and i want to install this on my pc, after checking around the nett, i found out my Motherboard HP IPISB-CH2 is not able to run it as its not up to date with the 3.0. I am willing to upgrade my motherbaord but i understand i just cant buy any motherbaord, so is there a motherboard that can replace HP IPISB-CH2 with the ability to run this new graffic card, also without having to replace anything else? and if i will have to replace anything else, what would that have to be?

    Razack, welcome to the forum.
The problem with running the GTX 960 is not the video slot.  It is the BIOS in the motherboard.  It requires UEFI firmware instead of a standard BIOS.  The card is 3.0, but will work in the existing slot.  They are backward compatible.
There are two main problems with upgrading the motherboard; the Recovery disks won't work and there may be problems with the front panel connectors.  If you decide to upgrade it, you need to buy a uATX Form Factor.  Also, it has to be made for socket LGA 1155 Intel processors.  This will allow you to use the existing processor.

  • New motherboard need re-format?

    Hi guys,
If I was to upgrade my KT3 Ultra ARU to a newer motherboard (any suggestions would be appreciated), would I definitely be looking at a Windows XP reinstall with re-format?
I haven't done a motherboard upgrade since running Windows XP.  In the past I have always done a format of C: and then reinstall my OS of choice.  But is it absolutely necessary with Windows XP?
Tonight I've been told yes, but I have also been told no, because Windows XP will detect and install what it needs for the new motherboard.
Any thoughts?  I'm thinking it is a must-do format, but the chance that I do not would be very welcome.
Again, any suggestions in the MSI line for a new motherboard for the gear in my sig?
    Thanks!

Thank you for the reply, Rob454.  I will then search for another MSI VIA motherboard.  This need for a new motherboard occured so suddenly I do not have a latest backup of my C:.
Here's my dilemma for those who care to read:
My AGP slot is dying on my KT3 Ultra ARU.  It was determined by MSI, via email, that my video problems were AGP slot related (video problems discussed in another thread here ).
MSI said they'd gladly take a look at the motherboard and determine if a replacement was in order.  To this I was pretty happy, but then I read the next sentence.  They said it could take upwards of 4 weeks to resolve.   Yikes.
I do not have a backup system and 4 weeks is a long time to not be able to do office work at home or even worse, game!   8o   What's even worse is that in one week's time I have a brand new 19" LCD coming to me and right now I have no system to put it on (I'm on a lousy Toshiba laptop...).   ;(
My thoughts: Buy a new motherboard for my gear (VIA chipset), RMA the KT3 Ultra ARU, and let MSI take a look at it.  If they replace it, great!  Then I will have that backup system for probs like this again.

  • Moving RAID- drives to new motherboard

I am very likely going to upgrade my K8T Neo to the newer K8T800 Pro with a 3800+ when both are available.
Anyone offer advice on how to move my currently RAID0 drives to this new motherboard?  The controller is still the 8237 so I'm assuming it will be OK?
What would happen if I wanted to move this drive to a different controller - like a board based on the Nforce controller?  Would it work or would I have to start over and lose my RAID0 contents?
Sure wish someone had a 4 device SATA controller on the motherboard so I didn't have to deal with the Promise stuff.  Was disappointed this wasn't included in the K8T800 Pro.

The same era (early 2005) 2.3 might be a good option.
If you don't have PCI/PCI-X cards that need transferred, a 2.3 GHz dual core (Late 2005) would be an option.
A Late 2005 dual core machine, however, wouldn't be able to use existing RAM or graphics cards, either.
All other models can use existing RAM, PCI and graphics cards.
As I said, the drives should not be a worry in any other G5.
They would probably boot just fine in a G4 as well.
With a retail OS installation, there is no reason to worry about compatibility.
As for LCS, like I said, all 2.5 and 2.7 GHz machines.
Here is a list of G5 models:

  • New motherboard (M42A) in repaired MacBook 2.0ghz?

My fiancee just sent her MacBook 2.0Ghz, purchased about two months ago, in due to a sudden and total failure... screen went black, no response to any of the usual diagnostic and recovery tricks. She shipped it in, and the repair ticket came back reporting that they'd replaced the motherboard. At least, after years of reading service-ese, that's what I gleaned... just listed an Apple part number that didn't turn up in any good searched, PCBA (printed circuit board assembly), M42A. Nosing around, this means they replaced the motherboard (they also listed replacing the heat sink, which would make sense if they put a new MB in and kept the old Core2Duo CPU).
What weirded me out was that the symptoms (sudden total failure, no response to power switch or anything else) made me think it was a failure in the power supply, but they didn't replace the internal power controller (I know this because the MagSafe connector still had the crud on it it had when it left here).
Anyway, I have to ask: even this late in the MacBook game, are machines still being produced with early motherboards, and would they still be in the channel even now that they have the 2.16ghz units out? We bought this out of stock at CompUSA in late March, seems like the MB would have been out long enough that the problems with the early motherboards wouldn't still be visible in production units now.
What was the part number on the earliest 2.0Ghz MacBook units? And is the M42A the new, good motherboard or the old, flaky one? I get conflicting information from vendors and what little info I can pick up on the nets. Some vendors are advertising 2.0Ghz units as "new good M42A".
The unit is back in my fiancee's hands (which is cool, because her endless support questions once she was forced to go back to her Windows XP Hewlett-Packard desktop were driving her -- and me -- to suicide) and I am once again pleased with Apple's ASCs, but I was just curious about it.

    Hi turtle,
Apple as other pc maker are required to have part stocked for several years after they discontinued their product, so I guess they still producing the same motherboard.
Maybe they have slightly changed here and there to patch the imperfect design but not totally changed everything around, maybe they just upgrade the firmware on the new motherboard.
    Good Luck.

  • Stable Gf4 Ti4800 se became unstable on new motherboard

My Gf4 Ti4800 se ran perfectly on my QDI kt333a motherboard, but now that I've upgraded to an asus a7n8x-8 motherboard it has colour corruption even in the bios.  Letters are still present, but large blocks of text will have their colours incorrect etc.  In Windows the corruption is much smaller, but still present.  It is instead the size of a few pixels here and there.  The colours can be corrected by highlighting the text, image, etc with the mouse then removing the highlight.
This is with the newest drivers and motherboard bios.  The new motherboard works perfectly with a Radeon 9800.  The old motherboard only ran the card at agp4x, where as the new one had 8x capability...as the card advertised it was capable of.
    I have a Barton 2500+, not oc'd, and 1gb of ddr333 ram.  Windows XP sp1.  all newest drivers/bios, & fresh install.

    Piezo,
The card should run at 8x, but for testing purposes lets try:
First uninstall the Video Drivers and the Mobo Drivers, then install just the nVidia 3.13 Drivers. They already have the ForceWare Drivers in then for the GeForce4 Ti card.
If that does not work, set the AGP to 4x and disable sidebanding in the BIOS.
Let us know what that does.
    Take Care,
    Richard

    Hi
All notebook parts can be ordered from local Toshiba ASP (authorized service partner)
Therefore I recommend contacting the ASP in your country to get the compatible board.
But new mobo is very costly so dont know if its worth to replace the mobo in your case

    Hello
For me there are no much options:
    - Authorized service partner in your country
    - Independent notebook hardware store (Google can help)
    - Or maybe used main board from eBay
    What you think?

  • Satellite M30X-134 - I'm looking for a new motherboard

    Hello,
im looking for a new motherboard for my Satelite M30X-134! I was offered one with the Toshiba number K000019680 with the advice that this one is for all M30X notebooks. Im a little irritated, because my thoshiba trader told me, that I need one with the number K000019210. Could someone tell me, if the K000019680 goes also fine with my notebook?
    Best regards

    Hi
It looks like you can use both of them but maybe is better to use K000019210. on this way you will be on safe side.

  • New motherboard ATV not showing up in itunes

I have a "new" computer in that the motherboard had to be replaced, along with the hard drive... I can't get my Apple TV to show in devices in itunes. In itunes prefs I have "look for apple tvs" checked. The ATV is connected to my wireless network. Any ideas how I can see my ATV in devices? I'm running OS 10.5.8 and my ATV software is up to date.

    Settings>Computers on AppleTV
The top entry is the sync library - change this and anything on AppleTV will be wiped in preparation for a new sync.
    Lower entries are streaming libraries.
The new motherboard/hard drive will be a 'different itunes library to the one you preiously used hence why AppleTv doesn't show up - you need to set it up for the 'different' computer.
Authorisation is equally as fussy - my MacMini failed so I removed the hard drive to try and deauthorise the computer, but booting from another device it knew it was a differnet machine so i couldn't deauthorise it.
