yashExp utility is data movement tool but it is not backup tool.(And using this you take logical backup)
RMAN is a backup tool and using is preferable way.From RMAN you can excute BACKUP DATABASE in this case your database will backing up.If your database running in ARCHIVELOG mode then you can execute this command while database running else you need execute this in MOUNT stage.Please refer online documentation.

It is a hard one.. laptops with small drives are a pain.
What you need is a home media server.
Some people use a PC running itunes for cost.. but that is nothing like as good as using a Mac mini.. they make great little HTPC device.. you can plug in large hard disks and store all your files and media. And share it with the network.. Read up apple's instructions on home sharing.

For cost you can buy a mini from 2011 or 2012.. I would not recommend earlier ones.. the advantage of 2012 is they have USB3 ports. But you will pay more for them.. new mini is not as useful.. they have soldered in memory and you cannot upgrade.. the old mini was the most easily modified mac in the whole range. Uses little power and can be bought for a $300US for a good one second hand.. maybe less.

We have a server with three instances SOX,GRC and SM2. We have attached
a external hard disk to take backup of database. While taking backup of
any database it gives error as attached. We can take backup of
transaction log on server's disk but not on external disk. Kindly have
a look on attached error and advice us.We are taking backup at sql
server level.

In fact, it could even be possible if it's the database enveloppe which is 210 GB and the actual data is less than 200 GB !
I dare to hope that it's not a production system which is backed up with an external disk...

Required to take backup with out TSM in PROD server.

Dear all,
I required to take backup with out using TSM .
we have got error in TSM . so that i am getting error .
Prod server backup is working automated through TSM .
now i need to take Online backup with out using TSM like DEV and QA (Manual backup) .
For DEV and QA server backup is manual . i am simply moved the tape to tape library and fired the online backup as well same QA also .
Now my query is reqiured to take backup with out the help of TSM in PROD server . Is it possible ?
2 profiles are configured for Online backup and offline backup .
pls check the below profiles .
initSIDdaily.sap -
> Online backup .
initSIDweekly.sap -
> Offline backup
is there any parameter i need to change ?

Hi,
May be just for viewing, try downloading from SE80 transaction from the others option.
Here just try issuing the print, it will generate the spool.
Now using the spool, download to your desktop as required. It will have all the information regarding the attributes, fields, elements everything.
The only issue is, may be you need to take all the screens separately.

ufsdump - used for ufs backup. you can perform full (0), incremental and differential backups.
example1. ufsdump 0cfu /dev/rmt/0 /dev/rdsk/c0t3d0s0 - back-up root filesystem to tape device
example2. ufsdump 5fuv /dev/rmt/1 /dev/rdsk/c0t3d0s6 - back-up filesystem on partition 6 to tape device
tar - used to bundle set of files and directories. No hidden files will be backed-up
example - tar cvf /dev/rmt/0 / /usr /var /home - back-up / (root), /usr, /var and /home filesystems to tape device.
dd - convert and copy file
example 1. dd if=/dev/rmt/0h of=/dev/rmt/1h
example 2. tar cvf - . | compress | dd obs=1024k of=/dev/rmt/0 conv=sync
cpio - good for restoring image from one system to the other.

No, but anything else is way more work. Without using RMAN you would have to find another way to keep track of applied logs.
RMAN make this very simple :
RMAN> CONFIGURE ARCHIVELOG DELETION POLICY TO APPLIED ON ALL STANDBY;Using another method would be like using the handle of your screwdriver as a hammer.

If you planing to build the same system.. why you trying to uninstall & install..
anyways you can do a client export & then restore of that 800 client.
or DB backup & restore iis more recommended.
Make sure you arnot changing any drives are file system , it makes the process would be smooth for DB restore & Backup.
