Hyper Links suddenly stop working ? So does 'ctrl + T/pad'
Hi everyone,
I hope I can explain this for you to uderstand easy.
I may have 2 or 3 Tabs open and decided to open another, example Amazon. I start to look around and 'say' I want to find a CD cover to make a copy of to paste onto something, I find said CD and then all of a sudden nothing works, no hyper links, zero. The only way I can them to work again is to copy the present page I am on, open a new Tab, paste the link in and all works again ????? But the not the original Tab. Plus if I try the 'ctrl _ T/pad' to open the options you then get ( to then copy subject for one ) nothing, yet I tried this in Google Chrome just to test and see if that works and it does. So what the **** is going on, I have no idea so please can anyone come up with a answer !
I hope I have this clear enough for someone to help.

PS: As I was even writing this everything suddenly stop, could not even 'highlight' some of the text and copy ( cmd + C ) .........
Update on my first message.
I have just tried everything regarding the above on my iMac ( the above problem is on my Macbook Pro' ) and guess what everything works fine ??????
Went to Amazon for example, found a book cover, pressed 'ctrl + click on mouse' and hey presto it worked ( options open - open link in new tab, download link file, copy image etc ).
So can anyone tell me why this does not work on my laptop please !

Last December my system started to act sluggish and eventually crashed on me. Pulled the hd out and did a chkdsk with /f option using another comp I no longer have now. It fixed whatever caused the files to be corrupted and system has been working fine since. Although my sound card no longer works and for some strange reason XP home wants to load two drivers for the DVD burner. Causing this to not work as well.
Lately, I've had a bit of spare time and have been trying unsuccessfully to get the sound card to work again. I've read the FAQ on potential resolutions. Oddly, without reading it, I had already done most of those suggestions. I've totally wiped the drivers out more times then I care to count. Even went so far as to boot into safemode to double check that they weren't installing there. I've even gone to the extent of running a registary cleaner just to make sure there's no residual left overs.
Here's the odd part now. Digging even deeper into my system. The main driver for this card is CTAUD2k.SYS. In MSCONFIG "tools", this driver is listed as being one that has to be manually loaded, not loaded automatically. Odd that is. Even odder still, when I run DXDIAG, when I click on the sound tab, I get a 0X88780078 (no driver) error. Yet when I go to music, the windows synthesizer test, it comes back with the same 0X88780078 (no driver) error as well. The other two test pertaining to SB Audigy DirectMusic Sythesizer [EF40] and the SB Audigy Audio [EF40} both work and I can actually hear music!!! Strange, eh?
Just for the record. I have gone to Control Panel -->Sound and Audio devices--->Creative SB--->Properties--->Properties. All three "options" (Audio devices, Midi devices and instruments, Mixer devices) are turned on.
Other oddities. When I tried to do a "detect creative devices" from the support page, it said I don't have any creative devices installed on my system. Go figure!
Any suggestions would be greatly appericated.

JaxxI've thought about that. Actually thought of doing a complete reinstall of XP home. However; I've a ton of music that I had just ripped as mp3's and I haven't had a chance to burn off yet. Also, while Asus does make some quality products...my particular mobo isn't one of them. The P4S800D-X motherboard has several issues. Like it can't handle sata 2 dri'ves, even backward compatible ones.
To do a reinstall or even repair on my system. I'd have to fix the dvd/cdrom first, and then it's like the chicken and egg situation of windows 95. XP wants to handle the drivers of my sata dri've as a scsii one. To do so you have to add them when prompted during the windows xp install process. Only it keeps looking for them on CD. No CD came with my Hitachi HD. It didn't need them. I can of course get drivers for the mobo that handle the scsii, but that would be placed on a floppy. And windows won't read the floppy!!!
There is a work around for installing the SISRAID drivers for the dvd/cdrom. But I'd need the dvd/cdrom to work to do them!
Things I forgot to mention or changed since I posted. I did upgrade reciently to XP home sp3 beta. I've upgraded to dx 9.22c (current as of end of march '08). I've done a google of the 0x88780078 error message. Seems this was a common error message a while back. I've tried many of the things that were suggested to fix that error message. None have worked. I've also tried at one time to install the on board ac'97 audio. And no such luck...this HAS to be a windows issue.
Since folks seem to upgrade video and audio cards alot, you would think that I could go to MS or even some website and get a "package" of all the windows audio .dll's and drivers and a how-to to clean them up and re-install them. -

Just to make certain that it's not an OS setting, check in your System Preferences>Sound and make sure that your balance is set in the middle:
If it is, and you're still having problems, you could also try resetting the SMC and the PRAM/NVRAM. If that doesn't help, it's likely a hardware problem that will have to be addressed by a trip to your local Apple Store or an AASP.

Some trackpad functions suddenly stop working
Hello!
I have no idea what causes this, but when I'm working on my MacBook, sometimes a couple of functions of the trackpad suddenly stop working. The functions that stop working are always the same: all of the "More Gestures" found in the "Trackpad" system preferences. Just scrolling and clicking always continue to work when this problem occurs.
When I just log out and log in again or restart my MacBook it works again, however, this can get quite annoying when you have to do this all the time.
I cannot figure out what causes these functions to suddenly stop working. Does anybody know a solution for this?Is your MacBook one with an easily removeable battery? Some users have noted that batteries, particularly older ones, sometimes expand and interfere with the trackpad. To test for this do the following -
Shut down your MacBook.
Remove the battery. Examine it for signs of expansion. If any are found DO NOT use it again.
Leaving the battery out, connect to the MacBook's AC power adapter.
Start up your MacBook. Test it to see if the trackpad works normally.
If the problem goes away with the battery gone, or if you notice expansion of the battery, replace the battery.

My iPod touch suddenly stopped working. It was fine earlier, but when I went back a few hours later, the screen had gone black and I was unable to turn it on. It is now unresponsive and my computer does not recognize it when it is plugged in. I thought it just needed to be charged but there seems to be a larger issue now. What should I do?
Let your ipod die. Then when it is dead charge it adn turn it back on. After that it should be fine.

I have been using my apple tv to access netflix for several months. It suddenly stopped working. When I try to go to netflix from the menu, it says "accessing netflix" but never does. I can access you tube just fine, but just can't get to netflix. Any ideas. I have unplugged everything and waited but nothing helped.
Update software. If that doesn't work try resetting. Mine started working after the update.

My eFax suddenly stopped working. eFax asks for login and pin and does not connect.
Is there a time limit on the free eFax? After 3 years suddenly stopped working. Login no longer successful.

There is actually a bit of a server issue of some kind.

Hello, My Nano 3rd Generation suddenly stopped working. It is a refurbished and I do not use it ofetn and keep it on the charger. The one night I leave it in my pocket with the head phones plugged in and the power off. it stopped working. I thought it lost it's charge so I put it back on the charger. Now I do not get the charging indicator. Is there anything I can do?
Probably needs a new battery.

Internet Suddenly Stopped Working
Hi,
My eMac, running 10.2, suddenly stopped working with my Internet. It shows my router, but when I open a browser, it says it can't find the server. However, my iTouch and laptop can both load with the same router and modem. Does anyone know what I should try to fix this? I didn't open up the case or anything and have tried Safari, Firefox and IE. None have worked.
ThanksThere are various glitches that occur with internet connections. My first suggestion is to disconnect the power to your router, leave for about 10secs then reconnect the power. This resets the router and its link to the ISP and sometimes resolves such problems. If this works the problem might still recur at times but at least you can get up & running again.
I would also suggest that you check with the router manufacturer's website for a firmware update for your model and instal this. This software is part of the router's internal operation not part of your computer's software even though the upgrade is usually done through one of your computers.
If these don't help I suggest you consider software maintenance/upgrades for your eMac. Various software components, eg preferences, can become corrupted and need to be replaced/upgraded from time to time.

AOL suddenly stopped working on my iMac. I have tried trashing the preference folder, and also trashing and reinstalling the software. Every time it tries to open I get a message that the program has "quit unexpectedly". Does anyone know what to try next?

TO REPAIR PERMISSIONS ON THE STARTUP DISK
1.Open Disk Utility, located in Applications/Utilities, and select the startup disk in the left column.
2.Click First Aid.
3.Click Verify Disk Permissions to test permissions or Repair Disk Permissions to test and repair permissions. (I never "Verify". Just run "Repair".)
Rerun RP until the only message it reports are the ones listed in this link:
Spurious Permissions Errors Using: 10.4.x
When "Repair Permissions" is complete. Quit "Disk Utility".

My startup chime suddenly stopped working.
I have 2011 27 inch iMac. (Mavericks 10.9.4) The startup chime suddenly stopped working this morning. I have not changed any software or hardware recently and there is nothing plugged into the headphone jack. Tried resetting SMC and PRAM and still no chime. Machine appears to be working normally other than this. Any idea what could be going on? Thanks, John.

Wireless keyboard suddenly stopped working - changed batteries still did not help

I have an Envy 20 all in one touchscreen with a wireless keyboard which has been absolutley fantastic until now. The wireless keyboard suddenly stopped working while composing an email. I replaced the batteries and checked them with a volt meter to ensure 1.5v. They are a name brand alkiline battery. I tried re-booting the computer and pressing the blue connect button under the keyboard. The only keys that seem to work are the volume up/down and mute; the rest of teh keyboard does not. Any idea? I like the factory keyboard so I am hoping it is not a faulty keyboard. After market keyboards will use a USB port.

Now if this does not work and you have to replace the keyboard do not fear you can replace the keyboard and the dongle without using another USB port as the one that is in can be replaced. Satellite L300 suddenly stopped working - new motherboard needed
My Sat L300 suddenly stopped working the other day.
It kept freezing to start with, then nothing at all. So, I kill-disked the HDD and tried to re-install Windows (XP).
During the install it threw up a message that some internal components had been incorrectly installed and needed to be reinstalled.
I was told to remove the memory cards and re-seat them.
That did not work. I thought that perhaps the HDD was damaged, so I fitted a new one, and started to reinstall Windows.
Once again, same message. One of my colleagues at work suggested that the Motherboard was probably U/S.
So I have been trawling the .net to find a replacement. Laptop out of warranty! I am told that some other serial numbered motherboards will work with this laptop. Don't really want to get a motherboard only to find its never going to work! My unit has an SPS number of: V000138330.
I am being offered one with an SPS of: V000138390.
Any ideas? Will this one work?
And if it does, will it give me the functionality that I used to enjoy?!

Do you have European model?
Has your notebook valid warranty?
Maybe I have misunderstood something but why you want to exchange mainboard if the warranty is probably still valid?
