Hyper links to another indesign document

Hi everyone I am currently working on a mobile app and I  have a slight problem
So I have 2 sperate in design docs and i created a frame and convert it to a button.
What I wanted to do is place hyperlink on the button on one doc to goto next indesign doc.
when I use the hyperlink and select page browse to the doc it accepts it but when I test it it does not work.
I checked the crosslink on the button in which it goes to the doc I want but its not working when I test it to my iphone
I can see it bit not working.

I'd like to expand the original question. The "navto://articlename method" worked for me. I can jump to another artical by making a button and adding a hyperlink to go to it. IT takes it to the first page. Here's my question: What if I have an artical that has multible pages and I what to target a particulur page or asset on that page. Lets say I want it to go to page 4 in that artical? I can't find a tutoral to show me howit's done.

    Indesign CC repeatedly crashes when I copy text from one InDesign document to another InDesign document. Is it possible to solve this problem?

    Without system information and details like what text formatting, language settings, fonts used, paragraph styles even down to the spell check language nobody can even begin to guess.

  • When I double click on a certain box in one InDesign document another InDesign document opens

    Hi,
    When I double click on a certain box in one InDesign CS6 document another InDesign CS6 document opens. Although this is isn't the end of the world it is somewhat annoying.
    Any ideas?
    Kind regards

    More info. Is this a link? Blank frame? Text Frame?
    What's the OS? Is ID patched to 8.0.1?
    Have you tried Remove minor corruption by exporting?

  • Need to re-Link every Link in every InDesign document we own...

    We keep all of our common files up on a server so that everyone in our department has access to everything at all times.
    Our IT department has decided to migrate all of the Marketing Assets over to another server so every link in every InDesign file we have access to has to be re-Linked.  The path for the most part will remain the same, just the root directory will change...
    For example, where a file used to be located in
    \\clients\marketing\common\logos\logo.eps
    it will now be located in
    \\newserver\marketing\common\logos\logo.eps
    Is there any fast way to batch change all the links in every InDesign File?  Is there a script out there that can help us or a third-party software that we can get our hands on to help us?  This will take forever if we have to do it manually.
    If anyone can help, we would appreciate it.
    Thank you.

    Here's a few ways I can think of:
    You could, of course, just leave it to each operator to resolve the links every time a file is opened for the first time since the server migration.
    You could also write/have written a script which would process folders full of InDesign files at some down time (e.g., over night) - opening each one, resolving links, and then saving it.
    Or, if you are using InDesign CS3 or CS4, you could write/have written a script that would be attached to the document "Open" event to do that same thing. This would basically automate the idea #1.

  • Maximum number of pages and links in an InDesign Document

    We have an InDesign document that is 79 pages, and contains about 700 image links and 700 text links. The links in total are about 7GB (most text documents are 2-6K; images could be anywhere from 1 to 50MB). the InDesign document is 220MB.
    If we house the package of the InDesign Document and the links on a local machine, it takes our machine about 2 minutes to load the file for editing. If the packaged is housed on a NAS drive (BUFFALO TERASTATION using Gigabit), it takes 16 minutes to load.
    I'm wondering if there is a set of "best practices" that suggests a limit to the size of the package, and if you exceed that limit, you should expect poor performance? (Like should we limit our documents to 10 pages and 1GB of links?)
    Are we asking for trouble by having documents and links this large? or is there some network or settings or performance issues on our network and on our MACs that I should be looking at first?
    Thanks for any comments or assistance.

    To answer in a simpler way:
    Page number limit per document: 9999 pages
    Link limit: your computer configuration (processor, ram, etc) determines it.
    Remember, if u run very large documents, you need to upgrade your configuration accordly. If you not have enough available resources to run a job fast, its clear the computer/network needs an upgrade. There are models of HP computers that can reach 128gb of ram memory, and they are not server, they are workstations.
    the other way is to avoid extra image data on links (large images in size, far from the output size) and work with the exact size you need, because this extra size can be the cause of the extra processing time.
    "We "strive" to do the editing in PS, but often we have a PS file that we want to keep at 4x4 (for future or other purposes), but will place it in InDesign as 2x2 -- so we edit it in InDesign. Should we be creating a new 2x2 file for this one-time purpose?"
    Thats the idea, (extra size = extra processing = extra time) X number of you images.

  • Regarding hyper-link function of Indesign

    I recently find a surprising case of indesign regarding hyper-link function. I am using the hyper-link function to make a URL such as "www.t-mobile.com" to ensure the URL can be jumped correctly in Acrobat 6 or lower versions. Then I open the PDF and put the hand-tool over the URL. I wonder that the URL isn't correct (appeared as below screenshot). I try to find out why does it happen. I delete the "n-dash" between the "t" and "mobile", and re-create a PDF for a look. Then everything is fine. Would anyone please advise? Thanks ahead.

    The way a hyperlink is presented and the name referenced in the hyperlink panel, you can use a en-dash in the address. But the way it is entered in the URL option of the panel: http://www.t-mobile.com, you must use a regular dash for the hyperlink to work.

  • How can I export table and cell styles to use in another InDesign document?

    I've been looking…and looking but can't find out how to export table styles within InDesign CC. If there is a load table styles option within the panel, it stands to reason there should be an export. Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

    Frank,   John's solution is it.    But that also requires that you have those old files easily on hand to access.  Maybe even searching for them in the future, 3 months down the road, could be a pain.   You can always save a Library for that file and drag some of those styled elements into that library.   Save the library in a place that you will keep access to and readily pull assets from.   In the future doc open that library and drag the styled element into your new document and the styles are now in the new doc to reuse.   I have a library saved just for tables.

  • How to best take sections from one document to merge with another Indesign document

    I am looking for most efficient way to take a section from one document to merge with a section from another document?  We have a book that needs updating, taking a section from one document to merge into another.  We have typically copied and paste each page, but there are 20+ pages involved.  Does anyone have a better way?

    Open both documents.
    With source document active, In pages panel, select pages that are to be copied to the destination document
    Right Click (or use panel menu) and select Move Pages ...
    Double check that correct page range is noted
    Select destination document
    select where in document pages should appear (beginning, end, after or before page X)

  • How do I link a button to another flash document?

    I am using action script 3 to make my website and all my files and done for now and complete however I have no idea how to make the buttons I created in flash link to another flash document.

    Is each page a different html file?  If so, then you would use code like...
    function linkFunction(evt:MouseEvent):void {
        var url:String = "awebpage.html";
        var req:URLRequest = new URLRequest(url);
        navigateToURL(req, "_self");
    btnName.addEventListener(Event.MouseEvent, linkFunction);
    where btnName is replaced by whatever instance name you assign to the button.  A condensed version of the function is...
    function linkFunction(evt:MouseEvent):void {
        navigateToURL(new URLRequest("awebpage.html"), "_self");
    If it is not linking to different html web pages, then you need to provide a clearer description of what your mean.

  • Linking data/tables in a indesign document?

    Hi,
    I don't know if this is possible but....
    I got this product catalogue, all the prices/data is from another indesign document, which is in a huge list/table. (which have been styled)
    My question; Is it possible, if I delete a price data/row in the catalogue - than it automatically delete the data/row in the another doc?? I hope you understand!
    Or any other ways round?
    If you don't understand, please write..
    Thanks!

    Maybe. Sort of.
    You need to tell us more though, like the version of ID that you use.

  • Adding Movies to InDesign Documents

    I successfully added a .swf file movie to an InDesign document and published to PDF - the first take went fine.
    Then I added audio to my (Captivate) file, republished as .swf, and placed it in another InDesign document.
    This time I get the message: "One or more interactive elements are clipped in ways that PDF files cannot reproduce. Those elements will be adjusted in the exported PDF."
    The PDF file appears to be blank.
    Should I be able to place a .swf file that includes sound into an InDesign file for output to PDF? Perhaps I am doing something else wrong, but I want to verify that the sound should come over with the .swf.
    Anne G.

    See this Help topic. From InDesign CS4, you have two ways to create Flash files -- SWF and XFL. If you export to SWF, you can include page curls, hyperlinks, transitions, and navigation buttons. If you export to XFL, you lose any button, hyperlink, or transition you've added in InDesign, and you use Flash Pro to add those things along with fancier animation effects. If you export to SWF, you can't edit the file. If you export to XFL, you have to know Flash Pro well enough to edit the file.

  • Is it possible to place an InDesign page into the same InDesign document

    I'm able to place an InDesign page into another InDesign document, but am not able to place an InDesign page an InDesign document when the page is part of the same InDesign document. Is there any way around this limitation?

    PDF is the better bet (although you might as well save a copy of your document). Snippets have all kinds of problems for this because of master items and the fact that from a script you can only export individual items as snippets (although you can group them and export that).
