Hyper Transport Question on Diamond Plus

I just want a conformation about the Hyper Transport Configuration on my K8N Diamond Plus. I have my Opteron 170 running at 2.75ghz (FSB 305 x 9x CPU multiplier). In the Hyper Transport Configuration I have everything set to 600Mhz (LDT to C51D, C51D to Nvidia Frequency, & CK804 to Nvidia Frequency). Is this correct? If not, what needs to be set to what?

keep 600mhz like stick said,(915) all others (LDT to C51D, C51D to Nvidia Frequency, & CK804 to Nvidia Frequency) setup to the max(16x16) 1000Mhz, works fine here.

  • NX7600GT Diamond Plus Questions

    Hey Everyone,
My questions today are about the  NX7600GT Diamond Plus video card. I am thinking about building a Home Theater PC and I was looking at the MSI 7600GT Diamond Plus card, because of the HDMI port.  Does this port besides carrying video carry sound as well? if so what kind is it, 2 CH, Digital, etc.? If it doesn't any recommends on cards that will carry very good sound quality out?  Also, are there any benefits to having two of these cards instead of one, other then having two 7600 GTs for playing games?  Finally, if I play a DVD on my computer(which is encrypted) and run the HDMI cable from the card to a DVD player/recorder, will I be able to record the movie or will copyright bs problems occur?  Sry for all the noob questions, but I am new to the HTPC arena.
    Thanks

    Hello
I currently own this card and might be able to answer your questions.
This card will send digital S/PDIF sound through the hdmi port if your motherboard or sound card has spdif cababilities.  This can be done one of two ways.  Option A:  If you have an internal header off of your mobo/soundcard you can use the supplied internal spdif cable.  Option B:  If you don't have an internal header (I don't and use this method) you can use the supplied RCA pass-through cable conecting the RCA end to your spdif out and the other end to the VGA.  Aside from being able to SLI them and increase the performance of some programs there is no advantage to having two as you will only be able to use the ports on one.
I'm not entirely sure about being able to copy a movie.  I wasn't aware that there were any DVD recorders with HDMI inputs on the market.  If you have a standard definition DVD (not Blue-ray or HD-DVD) you probably shouldn't run into any copyright problems.  However I've found that many DVDs will refuse to play on my computer if a TV out port is activated, you may or may not run into this with the HDMI port.  This isn't card specific, from talking with tech support this is apparently present on all nvidia 7-series cards.
Overall I was really impressed with how this card handled the digital sound, but was not impressed with the quality of the HDMI video signal.  The signal was being overscanned, and looked horrible in comparison to the analogue signal from my card.  This is really no surprise considering this is the first ever HDMI card.  Theres always going to be bugs at first.  If you're planning on building an HTPC I would suggest using the plain old RGB (15 pin analogue) if your HDTV has the input (most do).  You won't run into any DRM restrictions using this method and the quality difference (versus DVI) is hardly, if at all, noticable on today's HDTVs and projectors.

  • K8N DIAMOND PLUS RAID 0+1 Question

I have K8N Diamond Plus due tomorrow as the base for the new system I am building.  In addition I have 4 Western Digital 320GB SATA drives with 16MB buffers on the way to serve as my storage.  My question is this, I would like to set the drives up in a bootable RAID 0+1 array.  In fact I would like to have the ability to multi-boot from the array.  Is this possible?  If so, it would be greatly appreciated to hear recommendations on partioning the array.  I would like to dual boot for sure and possibly add a third OS.
    Thank you in advance,
    --Sarge

like syar said, it will show up just as one harddrive on your machine. that means that you can do with it whatever you are able to do with 1 harddrive: partition, multi-boot etc. since this is your first 0+1 array, i wish you good luck. you're gonna have fun with it, i know i did with my first array (took me 4 hours to figure out what's what, but hey, there wasn't any MSI forum at that time  )

  • K8N Diamond Plus Questions?

I have a some questions about my K8N Diamond Plus. I recently replaced a K8N Neo Nforce 3 board and some other parts as well. The machine has been working very well with this new board so far but there are a few issues I’d like to get resolved.
    1. Does anyone know if there is a new BIOS out for this board? I have that problem where at start up it shows that I have a new card in one of my PCI slots even though I do not….it does’nt seem to hurt the machine at all it’s just annoying….i’m wondering if they released a BIOS that corrected that?
    2. On my old board I overclocked the machine with no problems at all. Now I’m no expert at over clocking but I do like to dable a little and last time I did I had no problems. This board seems like it will over clock well so I went and got better RAM….i just received some Corsair XMS 2GB DDR 400. I went into the Cell Menu to look at the options for the RAM and saw much, much more then I had on my old Neo board.
I know I need to adjust the CAS Latency, RAS# to CAS# delay, Min RAS# Active Time and the Row Precharge Time for this RAM….people have been saying that their motherboards do not detect the correct timings for this RAM (2.5-3-3-6) so you need to adjust it Manually…along with uping the Voltage to 2.7.
My question is…..do I need to worry about any other options under the MCT Timing Mode besides the 4 I mentioned above? Also…I could’nt seem to adjust the Voltage for the RAM? Every time I high lighted it and hit enter nothing would pop up for me to adjust (and it is white not gray like some things are)….is there something I’m missing that I need to shut off in order to access it???
Thanks ahead of time for anyone that can provide me with some answers.

I have not been able to find any information on those other settings.  It is my current project and I am not having a great amount of success.
The defaults for them do not seam to have any adverse effect on stability the system in my signature is my MS-7220 system at FSB=225, CPU multiplier of 12, Memory/FSB =1/1 system is quite stabile if I am not playing with the BIOS settings.
I am working on, some major some minor these current problems.  Watch out for number three it will flat blow your BIOS Parameters.  It happens on my system every time, but I not been able to find any body that is will to trash the BIOS to verify it, so I can be sure it is a real BIOS problem or my system.  “MCP Timing Mode” use to do the same thing, that where the V1.16 BIOS version came form MSI Tech Support sent my that one to fix the problem and this one looks to be the same.
    1.   First boot screen the line “DRAM = 400 MHz, Dual-Channel.” It reads 400 MHz do matter what that actual memory transfer rate actually is.
    2.   Cell Menu parameter “Adjust DDR Voltage (V)”, has two problems (1) the BIOS default voltage is outside the manufacture specification for normal operating range.  BOIS default is 2.65V and manufacture states the Memory Module should be operated between 2.7V minimum and 2.9V maximum.  (2) The voltage cannot be set to the manufactures minimum voltage of 2.7V.  Starting with the BIOS default voltage of 2.65V and you press “+” key once and voltage jumps to 2.75V, press the “-“ key and the voltage jumps back to BIOS default of 2.65V.
    3.   Cell Menu>Memory Configuration>User Config Mode parameter, when set to “Manual” and all of the “User Config Mode” sub-parameters left at BIOS default.  The system will not boot.  When I say will not boot I mean Blank Screen, no beeps, no drive activity, just case and motherboard fans come on.
    4.   Menu “CPU Frequency Configuration”, parameter Adjust CPU VID.   CPU correct voltage tracks the set by about 0.03V high.  Example: if Adjust CPU VID to 1.375V and actual vCore voltage is about 1.405 Volts.  The offset is maintained through the voltage adjustment range of the current CPU.

  • K8N Diamond Plus- bios freeze & question about temp/voltage monitor

A weird issue I had right after I setup my mobo last night was that I could not access the "PC Health" portion of the bios.  If I tried selecting it, it would just freeze.  Is this a known issue?  I'm hoping a bios update may solve this one.  Does anyone know anything about this?

Well I was mostly just asking if this was a known issue, so I guess "no" is all the answer I need...  Now, what would be my best solution?  I am assuming bios update, is there anything else that I should consider?
But if it helps, as I said its a brand new build, so I'm running the default bios. 1.00.  My other components are:  Silverstone Zeus 560w, 2GB of G.Skill pc4000, Raptor 74gb, 7900gtx, Opteron 165.
Also, since my other thread was locked (I figured seperating two different topics would make it easier for people to respond to specific questions, I apologize,) here's my other question pasted:
"I just set up my new system with this motherboard (K8N Diamond Plus,) an Opteron 165, Scythe Mine heatsink, and a Silverstone Zeus 560w. Its these components that lead to my question-
I am getting temps of about 31C idle, 41C load.  Nice temps yes, but I'm not sure how accurate those are.  That means that it is idling at 86F in a room that was probably in the high 70's, maybe 80.  Seems a little too good to be true, but then again, I am used to Intel's furnace-like temps
Its the voltage reading that has me a bit more concerned though.  Corecenter is reading my +5v as 5.36v, and my +12v as 12.28v.  The +3.3v is reading about spot-on at 3.33v.  I'm hoping that someone else who has this motherboard can tell me this- are the readings in Corecenter for this motherboard generally accurate, and should I be concerned about this?"
Thanks for any help you can give.  No sig yet because I just registered an hour ago, I'll work on it.

  • Diamond plus question

Hello all, i was wondering if the MSI Diamond plus needs amplified audio or can i just you regular speakers....
I ask because if i use normal speakers i get almost no sound. If i use amplified 5.1, i get good sound.
also, my computer doesnt want to use my USB headset after the first time i use it

Go into start menu all programs, accessories, audio devices and play around with the settings use ceative instead of windows default! I had the same experience when I first go my board up and running!!!!  No you dont need 5.1 I only use 2  cyber acoustic speakers and they thump considering I only spent $30.00  the onboard audio is awesome you just have to configure it as suggested , also if you use the creative media source player in conjuntion with the onboard the sound quality is superb!!!

  • New K8N diamond plus questions please help.

Hi all well i am new to this msi site and am thinking of buying the new MSI K8N Diamond plus motherboard, the problem i have is that i have been a fan of ASUS and have had there last 3 SLI motherboards of which i have not been happy with.
Well i am totaly into overclocking and have an Opteron 165, balistix ram, 600w Enermax PSU, 2x Gainward 6800gt's,
what i am looking for is a motherboard that does what i says it will do, yes the asus a8n32 was a great motherboard but has a limitation on the voltage if useing the new E4-E6 stepping cores of which would only give a max voltage of 1.58v of which the asus spec said 1.76v.
What i am asking you chaps is is this a great motherboard, can you play with all the coms settings without any limitation, or do you think that the DFI motherboard is better.
If you can let me have some info on this motherboard that would be great, as i can not seam to get any reply from MSI about some information.
what i am looking for is what is the max CPU voltage and is there any limitation on it for some chips.
what is the max voltage for the ram
what is the max voltage for the chipset.
any help on this would be great.

there is no mobo that alows 4V for the memory. i think the DFI goes up to 3.4V and you can use a DDR Booster to get to 3.8V. the only mobo that is capable to pass 3.3V is the DFI since you can have the choice to select from which rail the memory will be powered (the 3.3V or the 5V). you don't have that option in any other mobo.
Hi thanks for the mail but i have just copied this from msi about this motherboard, see below.
    1.Adjust CPU FSB Frequency:
You can adjust the desired "CPU FSB Frequency" by using "+,-" key. The default value of AMD Athlon™64 is 200MHz. The maximum value is 450MHz.
    2.AMD Overclocking Configuration (CPU Ratio):
If the CPU is Athlon™64 FX series, the ratio range is from 4 to 25.
If the CPU is Athlon™64 series, the ratio should be set according to its model number. For example, the ratio range of 3000+ is from 4 to 9, and the 3200+ is from 4 to 10.
    3.Adjust Extra CPU Voltage:
This is for adjusting CPU voltage while overclocking. Following the CPU default value, the maximum is 1.8V. The interval is 0.05V.
    4.Adjust DDR Memory frequency:
The Memclock is the major part which has four different frequencies to match many kinds overclocking memory modules. The memory frequency settings includes DRAM/FSB=1/2, 2/3, 5/6, 1/1.
    5.DDR Memory Voltage:
This is for adjusting memory voltage while overclocking. K8N Diamond Plus has a special design. We use jump to distinguish two level arrangement of voltage. In this way it can get maximum 4.1V for overclocking modules. As you can see the below pictures, the left one is the standard mode when jump hat is located at the top postion. The default value is 2.5V, and the maximum is 3.2V. The interval is 0.05V. As the right one, it is overclocking mode when jump hat is located at the under postion. The default value is 3.2V, and the maximum is 4.1V. The interval is 0.05V.
What i am asking is there any limitation on the cpu voltage like the asus a8n32 as this had a max voltage of 1.58v due to it having a limit put on it by recomendation of amd.

  • MSI K8N Diamond Plus Question

Will the ThermalRight XP-90C Heatsink and 92mm fan work with this board?  Thermalright's web site does not say anyything but I can't help but wounder if it will fit with that fanless cooler on the MOBO.
    Thanks

I've got an XP-90 installed and there is plenty of room.   Plenty of airflow also.   I'm at a constant 31-36 celsius, so no worries on the CPU.  This cooler is large, I had it on an Asus A8V deluxe, an Abit AN8 SLI and now on the MSI K8N Diamond Plus, and its basically located on the same place regardless of mobo, so I wouldnt worry too much about it.
I did'nt mean that it has a massive effect on the temps, although comparing your rig to my last (AN8 Ultra, 3700 @ 2.7) my temps never went above 32'c idle and 44'c loaded!!
I meant that the airflow in my case struggles a little because the exhaust fan is right next to the hs and I cannot operate it the other way round due to my ram hs being so bloody large <damn you Corsair!!>
    Sorry if I caused confusion!!

  • K8N Diamond plus HSF and memory compatability question

I am considering this board since I need a good onboard sound chip to utilize my front breakout box.    At this time I have an opteron 180, a Zalman 7700 and 2 gb kit of Corsair XMS TWINX2048-3500LLPRO on the way from ZZF.  I had planned on using this on an Asus A8N SLI deluxe but if the hardware is compatible I would rather have the SB onboard than the Realtek on the Asus.
Does anyone know if the Zalman will fit on this board and clear the northbridge heatsink and fan?  I had seen in another post the the MSI boards might not care for Corsair to well,  any validation on this?
    Thanks!

    Tricker61,
As you can see by my signature I am using the Diamond Plus with a full two pair of TWINX2048-3500LLPRO’s.
It was not plug them in a go, but it just requires setting the memory up manually, which is really set forward.
The only problem is that the current BIOS do not the memory to SPD values and here is a list of setting you will have to set manually.
    (1)   FSB/Memory Ratio is set by default to 1:2, which needs to be changed to 1:1.
    (2)   Memory Module Voltage Corsair spec is 2.7 – 2.9, default BIOS setting is 6.5V.  I am running mine at 2,75V.
    (3)   Corsair spec timing 2,3,2,6, BIOS Default is 2,3,2,5 so you need to set that.
As far as memory set for your Corsair memory you have they are working fine and system is stable.
You wanted 2.6 GHz; I am currently run FSB of 225 MHZ and with default multiplier of x12, which is one BIOS defaults that is correct.  My system running solid at 2.7 GHz and the memory is running DDR450, which better the Corsair spec.
Therefore, with the memory modules you should get the performance you said you wanted.  I feel with all the memory setting corrected I could running it up more, first 225 MHz is the speed I could not make with default BIOS setting and I am not and Over-clocker like you, if want a good solid fast system.
If you have not purchased a case yet, make it a big one with lots of fans.  I am using the Cooler Master CM Stacker 810 and have just moded the case to add two extra right side 120mm input fans in place of the stock 80mm fan and I am just starting to get the system temperatures under control.  With to two new fans that makes 4 120mm input fans and 120mm, 85mm and the power supplies 135mm fan for exhaust.  I have been using 120mm fan with 35 to 40 CFM each, to try and keep the noise down, but it looks like an a few more CFM to input fans and put up with the added.  But it is a nice system now, you the noise of the air flow , but no actual fan sounds, except for the Graphics Card when is cycles it fan to high speed, which much less with two add right side 120mm fans.
Hope this information helps you selecting components for your new system.

  • Bios translation needed for my new diamond plus

i just got my new diamond plus over the weekend and i loke the board except that im a bit confused about the bios.     my last mobo spelled everything out i.e htt 1x 2x 3x...  ddr 266,333,400.   but the diamond has everything in mhz and 1/2, 2/1 and so on. also i cant change some things it says i should be able to change, like the cpu and ddr voltages. i HAD MY VENICE 3200 RUNNING @ 2.5 on my gigabyte k8nxp-sli but cant get it past 2.2 on the diamond, prob because i have no idea what im doing on this board.
also can anyone tell me y there is a 1.9 bios as well as a 3.0a and a 3.09 ? and which one is best ?

  • My new Diamond plus pt2... a pointless thread!

    Hi all
OK, my last post title stated that my Diamond Plus was crap. Well it's not  Let me explain. My last build was about 2 1/2 years ago. it wasnt top of the range but still a good computer, some of the parts are in my new rig. Now that build was so easy. All I had to do was push everything togeather and flick psu switch and everything worked 100% first time. :D and it's been great ever since. All I ever upgraded was the memory to 1gb.
Now I've upgraded to a mother board with the latest technology designed to run at the speed of light, and this is where my problems started. First off the psu. no pci-e connectors, and only rated to 350watts. second a soundcard that doesnt like nVidia for some reason and memory, or maybe a cpu, that very picky on how fast it can run.
So in a hurry I bought a cheapish psu, problem 1 solved, for the short term, then games would crash and prime95 would report errors all the time. So I messed around with the memory timings in bios, with help from a few peeps on here, and now has been rock solid. although prime will get upset between 1 and 2 hours.
Now thats left to sort is the sound card.
Spose what I'm trying to say is. is. is.... Computer building is becoming a fine art. where you cant just bolt things togeather anymore. you have to tune each part to make it work. and sometimes it may take a week or two to do that.
I now LOVE my MSI Diamond Plus and would recomend one to anyone else looking for a simular build.

Everyone's comments here are 100% true. You need to have the nerve to explore in new terrain in order to do this. If you had any doubt in yourself, you'd either pay someone to build a rig for you or go out, sell out, and buy a frackin' Dell. Patience is also vital in computer building because without it, you won't be able to find the answers to your questions and solutions to your problems.
Building rigs can be fun as well as frustrating. Last rig I put together lasted two years before I considered a new system. Heck, that two year old rig is still ticking strong and I plan on reselling it. At the end of 2003, I bought absolutely every latest and greatest piece of hardware on the market including hard drives up the wazzoo, but there was no power supply on the market at the time that could keep a rig with 8 hard drives, a high demand video card and motherboard happy. I pretty much refunded everything and went from large to small. I built an 865P chipset Shuttle SFF Cube PC, P4 2.8C with Hyper-threading @ 3.02 GHz, 1GB DDR433 Dual Channel RAM, SATA 250GB drive, single DVD recorder, GeForce FX 256MB, Analog video conversion capture card and the rest of my raided hard drives I put them in external firewire enclosures. Ran games, edited film, designed 2D and 3D graphics and finished my thesis for my Bachelor's Degree on it like the champ that computer was. The point I'm trying to make is that we all either solve the issue and if we can't, we adapt.
Congrats on getting your rig straight. Inadequate power supplies can seriously put a blemish on a computer so choose yours based on wattage and reputation wisely. Personally, I've got a Themaltake 650w to run my rig.
On a sidenote, I think SLi has been the best computer investment EVAH. And ultimately, if you build a rig properly with the right components, a two year run should be more than worth it.

  • K8N Diamond Plus... Lots o Crashes, and other wierdness

Well, gotta new build here.   Ran fast and hard from an Abit A8N SLI that was never stable, after 5 months of tinkering.
Moved to the Diamond Plus SLI X16.  Never had an MSI before, but had lots of the others (Asus, Epox, Abit, ECS, PCChips, etc)  and am so far pretty happy.
However, there are some strange things happening as I iron out the bugs.
No BSODs fortunately yet to speak of, but plenty o crashes when exiting FarCry, Quake etc.   Never during the game, but when I exit it blows up.   Also, lots of graphics distortion, which I never had before.
The thing'll run Prime stable for hours with stock settings for everything plus OCZ mem settings specifically for this mobo (1T).
But the crashing while exiting is wierd.   The windows dump file has no reference to drivers or anything else, niether does the event viewer, so I have no leads, especially as I'm not that experienced in this Mobo yet.
I have the latest Nforce and Geforce drivers.   The thing is pretty stable, but gets a little wierded out in games.
Ideas greatly welcomed, no matter how hairbrained (but please don't tell me its my power supply  )

    Nanohead,
First off this is not criticism, but the Diamond Plus uses AMD Hyper Transport Technology more than any MB I seen, there may be high end severs that use it more, but I am not into that.
If you are going to be OC, the Diamond Plus you are going to have known something, a lot, about HT or you MB is going to be unstable.
The lay out of the BIOS HT parameters may not be prefect, but it is not bad for a companies first draft and that is what its.
With HT the timing and bandwidth between Processor, Northbridge and Southbridge is all variable in word length and clock speed.  If you do not have them all set correctly you reduce system stably and throughput.
Because to be the maximum performance out of the system yon not only have to tune FSB, Memory Clock and all memory parameters.  You are now PCI Express Bus parameters and HT parameters tune.  You will notice I did not say adjust, they now need to be tuned, because they all have to be running just the right data rate or you will get corrupted data.  Anyone of the subsystems now running to slow or to fast can crash the system.
And right now the  Diamond Plus is stall a mix of old and new Technologies and everything has to be tuned manually or just leave it a factory default values, which will not be the fastest the system will run, but it hopefully will be the most stable.
The days of just cranking up the clocks to OC your compute are over.

  • K8N Diamond Plus , Need some help please

I have the Diamond Plus board and I seem to be having the same issues that most of the rest of you are.
Memory stuck at 333 , When I try to install a soundcard into a PCI slot I find that I now have a modem onboard!
A few other glitches that I am sure will be fixed soon.
Anyway can anyone tell me how I can get the new Beta bios for this board that some of you have? I have sent a
letter for help to MSI but it has been almost 3 days with no responce.
Is this normal? or should I wait more. Or can someone tell me how to get the bios , and if it will help me any at this time.
Anyway thanks all and I will be here more now that I have found this forum

    Sealance.
There are about three or four reasons for what I have done.
First, the reason for buying Diamond was not for gaming the only gaming I do not Spider when a waiting on the computer or the network.  System are for my personnel use and that I use them to how high of performance I can get out of them and there are use for my home automation system.  A lot of them end up in the hands of my grand kids.  Therefore, my primary goal on the system is hard drive throughput and data handling.  The nVidia Chipsets RAID Controller are poor, for one main reason and that is there are software driven, the RAID is a Service ran on the Main Processor.  Being software driven is the primary reason they are slow and second is the use up valuable Main Processor time.  Third, right now they will not work with the newest high speed SATA drives.  That means I use a third party RAID controller that is hardware driven.  The fastest third party RAID Controllers uses the PCI express bus.  As I am not using the system for gaming and do not use the second PCI-E x16 Graphics Card, which means I can use it for an PCI-E x4 RAID Controller Card.
Why is it in the secondary Graphics Card x16 slot?  (1) Placing the single Graphic Card in the Secondary Graphics card slot spreads the bigger heat generators out on the motherboard.  Using the Primary x16 slot for a Graphics Card puts the Processor, Memory, Northbridge Chip and Graphics in one small area of the this motherboard ( poor design, but you work with what you got.).  (2) This leaves the Primary x16 for use by the RAID Controller Card, which is low profile in proving ventilation for the Northbridge Chip.  The is a PCI-E x4 slot on the motherboard, but it only has to lays connected to it, if you wondering you I did not use it.  (3) The Primary x16 slot has the shortest Hyper Transport data path to memory, which I am hope will improve Hard Drive Bandwidth.
If there were anything else, you would like to know, or what I just said did not sense or would like more details just reply.

  • Diamond Plus overclocking problems - memory related?

    Here's my setup:
    K8N Diamond Plus (stock BIOS)
    x4 512MB Corsair TWINX1024-3200XL PC3200 Memory (2-2-2-5 factory settings)
    AMD San Diego 3700+
    Seasonic S12 500
If I run two of the sticks in dual channel (1 gig of memory), I get DDR 400 but any attempt to change FSB results in Windows being unable to start.  I've tried x10 and x11 mults. Being able to overclock with only one gig of memory is my main priority since I can use my extra gig for another machine. That and I want to run at true DDR400.
Here's where I'm really confused: If I run all four sticks (2 gigs), my memory runs in DDR333 and I can get the following overclock:
CPU @ 2.64 ghz (up from 2.2): x11 Mult, 240 HTT, +.05 additional voltage. Temperatures all seem fine, but I know people have been able to get this CPU up to 2.8 ghz. Any higher than what I have, and I can't post or Windows will crash.
Prime95 ran once overnight w/out error. Will try again tonight.
My memory is set for 1:1 and it shows up as DDR400 in the BIOS, but detects as DDR333 at post (why?). Also, CPU-Z shows my memory frequency as only 188.6 MHZ (too low?) and FSB:DRAM as CPU/14 (also too low?). Command rate is 2T and the volts have been set to Corsair's spec of 1.75.
This is my first overclock so I'm sure I've screwed up somewhere. For example, in the Hyper Transport settings, I set all three of the possible settings to 1000mhz from 400mhz. Is this wrong?
Thanks for any help you guys can give me. Just to reemphasize- I'd like to overclock with only 1 gig of my memory in the system, or have higher clock and memory speeds using two gigs.

you will get the DDR333 when using 4 sticks because of the memory controller limitations on the CPU. there is nothing you or MSI can do about it, it's the CPU's fault. however, san diegos might be working at DDR400 with 4 sticks if you set the command rate to 2T. it doesn't always work, but sometimes it does.
as for the hyper transport, do the following. divide the number that you set in BIOS for all 3 to 200 (for example if you set it to 400 then 400/200 =2). that gives you the HT multiplier. now, multiply that by the FSB that you are using, so at 240, you will have 240x2=480. you always have to keep the resulting value between 600 and 1000.
hope it's clear. you can read some more on the OC-ing in the stickies of this section.

  • New BIOS for Diamond Plus any problem noted yet.

Anybody using the new BIOS for the Diamond Plus Version 3.09 BIOS.
I have got it installed and upgrade went will, but be ready for changes.  Go over you BIOS Setting each and every parameter, because they have changed a lot of the defaults, like all Network controllers are disabled by default.  The have made changes to the Hyper Transport Defaults setting they are what they should have been in the first place.
Marvel Yukon network controller drivers of old will not will not load and MSI USA download for the driver is off line. Tw site is not down but not taking new requests for the drive because of traffic load.  Old nVidia network drives loaded after I enabled on board LAN on in the BIOS.
That, all I have checked out so far, Oh yes the changes in Memory BIOS setting, but have not been able to check all of the out.  If some one with experience with memory BIOS settings could check them out and give report back it would be helpful.
We asked for it now we got it, for better or worse.

Wow, funny how 2 gigs still needs a paging file with a standard desk top!
Of course, even funnier just how fast 2 gigs can be eat'n up with 3d rendering and audio/video encoding!
Just blowing my mind, remember when 32meg RAM was considered over kill?
    Ah those 3.1 days
that's not a bios issue it is a xp home and xp pro 32 bit issue.
if you want 4 gigs you need a 64 bit OS like server 2003 or xp pro 64 bit.
Yes it will run in dual channel but due to limitations you will have it run in ddr 333 *UNLESS* you have single sided 1 gig sticks.
Even with 4 gigs you will see slightly less than 4 gigs in bios, as a portion is Used there. once in windows you will see the full 4 gigs.
btw I am on my old P4 3.0e prescott as i sent in my two 7800gt's for the step up program.
They should be here by the 31st.
For what it is worth I have had 4 gigs working on this mb and cpu using ms's free dl of their 64 bit os.
It took me for ever to figure out why i was only getting 333 ddr and 3.5 gigs. this was 18 months ago.
When i ran a dual boot of the xp hom and xp 64 with 4 gigs, i did not see the support from my prefered software vendors.  So i sent back 2 gigs, and stuck with xp home. Now that i have the new amd i stepped up to xp pro 64 bit and love it.
