Hyper-V Cluster. Cannot ping Cluster A.D. account in nodes

Hi
I've got H-V cluster with two nodes TN1 and TN2.
On TN1 i can ping A.D. cluster account TC1 (ping tc1: 10.1.1.23) but on TN2 i cannot do it. I get:
Ping request could not find host thvc1. Please check the name and try again.
At this time cluster is hosted by TN2 (Information from MMC cluster manager console).
If i try ping other host in netowrk, TN1 use IPv6 address of interface:
ping tytan
Pinging Tytan [fe80::642e:74f1:ae87:8b75%19] with 32 bytes of data:
Reply from fe80::642e:74f1:ae87:8b75%19: time<1ms
but on TN2 it is used IPv4 address:
Pinging tytan.tcn.toya.pl [10.1.1.11] with 32 bytes of data:
Reply from 10.1.1.11: bytes=32 time<1ms TTL=128
1. Why ping on two nodes are not the same?
2. Why can I ping A.D. cluster account?

Hi Yukio Seki,
From the current information, It seems like the Windows Firewall settings issue, Could you temporarily disable  both node
firewall then test the ping again?

    Planned Failover from Cluster (Primary site) to another Cluster (Replica site) with Replica
    Start Hyper-V Manager pr failover cluster console on the primary server and choose a virtual machine to fail over.
    1. Turn off the virtual machine that you want to fail over.
    2. Right-click the virtual machine, point to Replication, and then point to
    Planned Failover.
    3. Click Fail Over to actually transfer operations to the virtual machine on the Replica server.

    Planned Failover from Standalone hyper-v to Cluster is ok
    Test:3
    Planned Failover from Cluster (Primary site) to another Cluster (Replica site) with Replica
    There is no  standalone hyper-v to standalone hyper-v between two sites .
    After the last test , if they still can not do planned failover , maybe you can focus on network configuration .

  • Testing ha-nfs in two node cluster (cannot statvfs /global/nfs: I/O error )

    Hi all,
    I am testing HA-NFS(Failover) on two node cluster. I have sun fire v240 ,e250 and Netra st a1000/d1000 storage. I have installed Solaris 10 update 6 and cluster packages on both nodes.
    I have created one global file system (/dev/did/dsk/d4s7) and mounted as /global/nfs. This file system is accessible form both the nodes. I have configured ha-nfs according to the document, Sun Cluster Data Service for NFS Guide for Solaris, using command line interface.
    Logical host is pinging from nfs client. I have mounted there using logical hostname. For testing purpose I have made one machine down. After this step files tem is giving I/O error (server and client). And when I run df command it is showing
    df: cannot statvfs /global/nfs: I/O error.
    I have configured with following commands.
    #clnode status
    # mkdir -p /global/nfs
    # clresourcegroup create -n test1,test2 -p Pathprefix=/global/nfs rg-nfs
    I have added logical hostname,ip address in /etc/hosts
    I have commented hosts and rpc lines in /etc/nsswitch.conf
    # clreslogicalhostname create -g rg-nfs -h ha-host-1 -N

    # mkdir /global/nfs/SUNW.nfs

  • Cannot reach cluster ip after configuring network load balancing

    I have set up NLB for 2 WFE of SharePoint 2013:
    WFE1 : private ip 192.168.1.100 ; public ip 172.1.1.1
    WFE2 : private ip 192.168.1.101 ; public ip 172.1.1.2
    Cluster ip:  172.1.1.3
    I used 2 private ip in NLB and select unicast, but I cannot reach the cluster ip from out of these 2 WFE server.
    Any body can help me? Thanks in advance.

    Yes, I follow these steps and created NLB successfully, but cannot ping the cluster ip from outside these hosts server in NLB. Below is detail information:
    OS: windows 2008 R2 64 bit
    Sharepoint : 2013
    WFE1 : private ip 192.168.1.100 ; public ip 172.1.1.1
    WFE2 : private ip 192.168.1.101 ; public ip 172.1.1.2
    private ip 100/101 can be communicated with each other, but cannot reach from other servers, even with same subnet.
    Cluster ip:  172.1.1.3
    After created NLB with unicast, I can ping the cluster ip from these WFE servers, but when I enter the cluster ip in browser, nothing display and cannot ping the cluster ip from other servers.

    You can do what you want to do just fine. Hyper-V / Windows Server 2012 R2 can use SMB 3.0 share instead of a block storage (iSCSI/FC/etc). See:

    There would be no shared disk and no CSV just SMB 3.0 folder both hypervisor hosts would have access to. Much simplier to use. See:

    You'll have however a limited solution as your single physical server being a file server would be a single point of failure.
    You can use Storage Spaces just fine but you cannot use Clustered Storage Spaces as in this case you'll have to take away your SAS spindles from your R720 box and mount them into SAS JBOD (make sure it's certified). So you get rid of an active components
    (CPU, RAM) and keep more robust all-passive SAS JBOD as your physical shared storage. Better then a single Windows-running server but for a true fault tolerance you'll have to have 3 SAS JBODs. Not exactly cheap :) See:

    Alternative way would be using Virtual SAN similar to VMware VSAN in this case you can get rid of a physical shared storage @ all and use cheap high capacity SATA spindles (and SATA SSDs!) instead of an expensive SAS.

  • Cannot add cluster disk on windows 2012

    I have 2 servers connected to a shared storage array using Fibre Channel.  Currently there are 2 luns on the storage device.  
    From the Failover Cluster Manager, when I select “Add Disk” from Storage – Disks, both luns show up and I can add them without problems.  But if I choose to only
    add one of them first (it doesn't make a difference which one is added first), then it will not allow adding the second one later.  I get a message: "No disks suitable for cluster disks were found. For diagnostic information about disks available to the
    cluster, use Validate a Configuration Wizard to run Storage tests."
    When I do add one (or both disks at the same time), they work just fine for failover clustering.
    I can’t imagine this is by design. Is this a known/unknown issue, or is there something special that needs to be done?

    Ok, no problem. I run the validation tests (Validate Cluster - Storage only) and I received the details shown below. I can clearly see that Cluster Validation tool does not find any disk suitable for 2012 cluster, and even I can see why (it is plain English).
    Unfortunately this still does not explain how to fix the problem. Recommendations like "run Clear-ClusterDiskReservation PowerShell cmdlet to remove the Persistent Reservation from the disk" do not work - this discussion is available in another thread where
    people having the same issue and no luck so far. I guess that I'm using old SAN (and I know that) that simply does not support SCSI-3 persistent reservation so those disks cannot be used in 2012 cluster. Oh well, will have to wait fro new SAN and then I can
    play again...

    No disks were found on which to perform cluster validation tests. To correct this, review the following possible causes:
    * The disks are already clustered and currently Online in the cluster. When testing a working cluster, ensure that the disks that you want to test are Offline in the cluster.
    * The disks are unsuitable for clustering. Boot volumes, system volumes, disks used for paging or dump files, etc., are examples of disks unsuitable for clustering.
    * Review the "List Disks" test. Ensure that the disks you want to test are unmasked, that is, your masking or zoning does not prevent access to the disks. If the disks seem to be unmasked or zoned correctly but could not be tested, try restarting the servers
    before running the validation tests again.
    * The cluster does not use shared storage. A cluster must use a hardware solution based either on shared storage or on replication between nodes. If your solution is based on replication between nodes, you do not need to rerun Storage tests. Instead, work
    with the provider of your replication solution to ensure that replicated copies of the cluster configuration database can be maintained across the nodes.
    * The disks are Online in the cluster and are in maintenance mode. No disks were found on which to perform cluster validation tests.

  • Change Hyper-V 2012 R2 failover cluster management subnet

    We have an existing Hyper-V 2012 R2 Failover cluster.  Virtual machines are live on this cluster.  The networking team has decided to reorganise the network subnets.  As a consequence we need to change the management IPs of our Hyper-V failover
    clusters.
    What are the possibilities?
    Evect 1 node from the cluster, set correct management IP on the evicted cluster. Create a single-node cluster.  Mask a new LUN to the single-host cluster.  Execute a shared nothing live migration of the VMs which are hosted on old cluster.

    Have you tried to stop manually and restart it again ?
    Also, read the troubleshooting guide in <upgrade directory>/EHPI/java/htdoc. Similar situation is described there.

  • Cannot ping DAG IP

    I have a two node Exchange 2010 DAG.   
    One is active and sits in Site A and one is passive for replication purposes and sits in Site B.
    In Failover Cluster Manager, the DAG is set up with two IP addresses - one is online and one is offline.  
    Today I noticed that for some strange reason, the passive server at Site B cannot ping the current online DAG address at all.  But it can ping other physical hosts using the same subnet as the DAG address.  In fact nothing at Site B can ping the
    DAG address.  But they can ping everything else.  Everything at Site A is working perfectly.   There is nothing wrong with the routing, everything checks out.  Nothing is being blocked.
    Why is this happening?

    Is this OS Windows 2008 R2?  If so look at the firewall fix that is in this post:

  • Ontap 8.3 lif cannot ping gateway

    Hi all, I have c-mode cluster with 1 node (DR filer).  It's on subnet 172.16.230.0/24. Gateway is 172.16.230.1/24I created an intercluster LIF (172.16.230.35)  to comm. with filer (production ) in another subnet. (10.1.198.0/24).I can ping 10.1.198.35. But I cannot ping the gateway 172.16.230.1 from the intercluster LIF on the DR-filer.I can also not ping from 10.1.198.35 (prod. filer) to 172.16.230.35 (dr filer) If I connect a laptop in the same subnet and give it 172.16.230.18, I can ping both ways. Thus, ping to 10.1.198.35, 172.16.230.1 and vice versa.  Just as expected. So routing seems correct. BUT, if i ping from the laptop to the LIF (172.16.230.35) of the filer,  I have no response, altough it's on the same subnet. So it looks like 'something' is preventing the LIF on the Dr-filer to respond to the ping(?)  I spend hours of searching the internet but I'm completly lost now. If somebody could give me only a direction to search in, it would be great! Thanks!

  • "Service Cluster left the cluster" - lost all my data

    My four storage enabled cluster nodes lost all their cached data when the all services left the cluster in response to some issue(?). Is that the expected behavior? Is the correct procedure to transactionally store to disk so you can reload when this happens or should this simply never happen? Seems like this should not happen. These four nodes are on the the same server. At about time 12:31 everything goes pear shaped.

    Hi Andrew
    I had a quick look at your logs but cannot say for certain why your cluster died. I can say that losing data is a normal consequence of node loss though. If you have the backup count set to 1 then you can lose a single node without losing data. If you lose more than one node (on different machines, or the same machine if you only have one) over a very short space of time then you will almost certainly lose at least one partition and hence lose the data within that partition.
    Going back to you logs is is difficult to determine the underlying cause without the whole set of logs. You have posted links to four logs but from looking at them the cluster has about 16 nodes. I know from experience (as we had a cluster that was quite unstable for a while) that tracing these issues through the logs can be a bit awkwrd but you soon get the hang of it :-)

Do you have GC logs of these processes. Are all the servers connected to the same switch or is the cluster distributed over more than one part of your network? Do you have too much on one machine, are you overloading the NIC, are you swapping, all these can cause delays and/or los of packets.
    We have had problems with storage disabled nodes doing long GC pauses and causing storage nodes to drop out of the cluster. Our cluster was on 3.5.3-p8 whereas you are on 3.6.0.0 which is supposed to have better node death detection so you might not have the same issues we had.

  • Cisco ASA 5505 Cannot ping local traffic and local hosts cannot get out

    I have, what I believe to be, a simple issue - I must be missing something.
    Site to Site VPN with Cisco ASA's. VPN is up, and remote hosts can ping the inside int of ASA (10.51.253.209).
    There is a PC (10.51.253.210) plugged into e0/1.
    I know the PC is configured correctly with Windows firewall tuned off.
    The PC cannot get to the ouside world, and the ASA cannot ping 10.51.253.210.
    I have seen this before, and I deleted VLAN 1, recreated it, and I could ping the local host without issue.
    Basically, the VPN is up and running but PC 10.51.253.210 cannot get out.

    Hi Martin,
    Which way you are trying. Sending traffic via site to site is not working or traffic which you generate to outside world is not working?
    But you say ASA connected interface to PC itself is not pinging that is strange. But try setting up the specific rules for the outgoing connection and check. Instead of not having any ACL.
    If it is outside world the you may need to check on the NAT rules which is not correct.
    If it is site to site then you may need to check few other things.

    Hello Jon,
      Thank you so much for your response. Clients will not be connect to a specific RDP server.  I was hoping if we were to establish a VPN Client tunnel I would like that tunnel to provide full local are access.  So the way the clients are used to is while in the field they use RDP to connect to their desktops on the internal LAN.
    Would you say this would work:
