Hyper-V in Windows 8.. VM cannot get DHCP IP address
I had Both Virtual Box and Hyper-V on the same machine, I decided trying to shut down Hyper-V all the time was too much trouble so I removed VirtualBox.
Since then no machine can get a local IP address from the router.
I have even setup the virtual connections again:
I have various CentOS installs which I installed with generation 1.
I even tried changing the LAN Adapter to a "Legacy" one, but it still fails.
Any advice as to what is going on with this?
Thanks
Hi trentcreek,
>>I switched to STATIC IP using the Google DNS of 8.8.8.8.
>>I can see the virtual Ethernet, which I am having the guest OS use, status as connected, and has internet access.
>>It still refuses to connect
After configured static IP for that VM then it can access virutal Ethernet and internet .
I want to know what's the meaning of "It still refuses to connect" .
First please ensure that VM connected to correct "external virtual switch".
Also I noticed that you have enabled "Allow management operating system to share .." and the external virtual switch is bounding to Wireless NIC .
I suggest you to create an external virtual bounding to wire NIC then test again .
Here is an article regarding the common issue of bounding external switch to WIFI :

Have situation on a unprotected wireless when accessing I cannot get a router address. I'm on system 10.6.8 on MacBook Pro summer 2009. Any thoughts on how to determine what's up?
You have basically verified that the issue is NOT with your MBP, but with this particular Wi-Fi network. Even though it may be unsecured, the provider may have elected to configure it for MAC filtering. In this case I am referring to the MAC (Media Access Control) address and not your Mac laptop itself. If this has been enabled, your Mac would only be able to connect if the Mac's MAC address was added to that filter.

Webcam on 2008 Mac Pro with Bootcamp and Windows 7. Cannot get it to work.
Have windows 7 Professional on my mac, using Bootcamp
I cannot get any webcam to work.
So far, I have used ....
A Logitech QuickCam Vision Pro for Mac. No app can detect it.
A Logitech C510 Webcam (for PC) No app can detect it.
An Agama V-2025 Webcam (for both Mac & PC and supposedly no additional drivers needed). No app can detect it.
I called Logitech and they said as it was too complicated for them to support, (i.e. Windows on a mac with bootcamp) and so they couldn't help.
Any ideas would be most appreciated.
Thanks.Use bootcamp. I have been a loyal Adobe guy for 12+ years, but now that I have upgraded to mac...Adobe just sucks. I have not been able to finish a project yet do to the shabby CS4 media encoder.

Router is configured; Windows XP desktop cannot get a full conneciton...
I recently reinstalled my XP desktop because it was acting strange and did the same with my wireless adaptor. I am sure that my wireless router is configured correctly, however I have typed in all in athetificaiton information for the adaptor and now I am getting the message "validating indetiy". Any reason why I should be getting this? I cannot get the status to change no matter what I do, even reinstalling will not change it.
Any help would be appreciated.
Brad TwayGo to the router's setup page. Disable wireless security and try the connection. Re-enable it afterwards.

Hyper-V on Windows 8.1 is messing with MAC address when sharing my Wifi card
Hello,
I'm using Hyper-V on Windows 8.1 to build a complete SharePoint Development environment.
All of my VM are following this scheme:
a "local" private network shared between the host and all VM, using a static IP address plan (192.168.10.0/24)
a RJ45 external network, attached to my physical ethernet card. This network uses DHCP protocol
a WIFI external network, attached to my wireless network card. This network also use DHCP protocol
When plugged on the ethernet card, I have no issue. Both the host and the guest OSes are getting a valid IP address.
However, when I try to connect on the wireless card, I get some weird errors. Actually, my guest OS are getting the same IP address than the host. This issue an IP address conflict.
Someone else got the same kind of behavior : Windows 8.1
Hyper-V : IP address conflict on Guest OS
I've checked my MAC address plan, and it seems correct.
Using WireShark (a tool I'm not used to I admit), I can see that all DHCP request of the guest os, are sending the host MAC address, and not the guest' one.
Does anyone have an answer to this weird behavior?
Thanks,
steve

Have a Nice Day.Net BlogHi Steve,
Please try the following step and then retry ipconfig /renew in your VM :
1. Configure the WI-FI router to assign a static IP address to the host’s wireless network adapter(the IP should not be in DHCP Pool).
2. On the host, configure the wireless network adapter to use a static IP address. The IP address will be the same address configured in step 1.
3. Using Hyper-V Manager, create an external network switch that is bound to the host’s wireless network adapter
Hope this helps

Hi Elton,
First of all, thanks for your effort.
I will try your suggestion, but even if it works, it won't solve the actual root the issue.
Moreover, it is only relevant if I can control every wireless network I'm connecting to. What about if I travel and I connect with a customer wireless network? what about an hotel wireless network?
As I said, wireshark shows me DHCP requests using the wrong IP address. I strongly believe there's a bug somewhere between the wireless card driver and Hyper-v Mac-Bridge service.

Cannot get website email address from clicking Contacts Help
Hi
A lot of websites I go to and click on Contact us or email us nothing happens and therefore I cannot find the email address ,
I have found a Way around that is plug in my Mouse and right click properties and sometimes I get the email address ,
However this is annoying as happens alot .. Yes pop up window is turned off so if pop up should work
any help fixing would be great ..
example of webpage below
http://www.capebyronimports.com.au/location.htm
I click on there contacts email address and it just flashes but never see address
How can I see the email address - is there some setting wrong somewhere ??
thanks allHi Globalmark,
How can I see the email address - is there some setting wrong somewhere ??
The email address should appear in the Status bar at the bottom of the Safari window when you mouse over the address. If there is no Status bar there, press cmd+/ to turn it on.
Normally when you click on an address it should launch your local email application. Open Mail (Applications > Mail) and check in Mail preferences > General to see what application is currently configured to handle emails (don't ask me why this setting is here... only Apple can answer that one!).
If it is set to Mail aready, try changing it to something else (any program, it does not matter which one) and then quit both Mail and Safari. Restart Mail, and once again change the default application to be Mail and quit Mail once more. Lastly, restart Safari and retry a site with an email link.
Hope some of that helps! -
Hello,
I am attempting to set up three Cisco 1242AG Wireless Access Points with multiple SSID's. I used the web interface and directions online to set up the two networks I want and at least one of the networks work wirelessly.
However, I have two problems:
The first, which is the most important, is that the "management" interface, BVI1, doesn't get an ip address from our DHCP server. I set the VLAN 60 (which you'll see in the documenation below) to be the native VLAN on the device as well as on the switch that the device is connected to as well as other settings in the configeration file below. Because of this, I can only manage the device via the console port which would be a huge pain once all of the devices are mounted.
The second problem is that I am not sure how to get both wireless networks broadcasting their SSID's. I have to manually type in the SSID for the second wireless network I have which I would prefer I don't have to. Anyway I can enable broadcasting on all of the SSID's?
Thank you for your time.
Regards,
Christopher Koeber

endI am using a third party DHCP server which is our Windows Domain Controller. I have the ip helper-address set for the native vlan of the Access Point through a layer 3 distribution switch (a Catalyst 4506) that the current switch connects to.
I didn't see any event on the logs for the AP.
Let me know if I need to do something else.
Thanks. -
Clients connected to AP541N cannot get DHCP address
New install with 3 AP541N's in a cluster. Two AP's are connected by an ESW-520-8P PoE switch and one on its own power adapter and a 3COM switch. I have set up a single SSID with WPA-AES encryption. I am connecting with HP 2740P tablets with Intel wireless cards. Clients can see and connect to the AP's but only some can get IP addesses from our Small Business Server 2003 DHCP server.
It's intermittent, some will get an IP and work for a while, while other can't. Then the ones that are working will drop and then none of the devices can get an IP. Then suddenly a few will start to work again. I have solid connectivity everywhere in the building but can't get an IP. Also, strangely, even when assigning a static IP I can not pass traffic, although it says I am connected with "5 bars" of signal strength.
Clients show up under Cluster>Sessions, but sometimes with really high counts of "Signal" and "Error Rate". However, even the clients with a "good" connection cannot get an IP.
Here is what I have tried:
Upgrade firmware on all 3 AP's to 1.9.1 (latest)
Wiped and reloaded the devices several times
Tried no encryption, WEP, WPA, doesn't make a difference
Tried everything described in this thread: https://supportforums.cisco.com/message/3078962#3078962 including the registry entry on the DHCP server
I have a spare AP that I put into production with the same load, but it didn't seem to make a difference.
Broadcast/Multicast limiting set to off
Upgraded to latest drivers on tablets; Boosted power on adapter to highest strength; Turned off power saving
I have exhausted all efforts in searching and trying based on my own experience, so any help the community can provide would be appreciated.
Thanks,

Have moved to the UK from the US and want to use up credit on existing account. I no longer have those US card details, so whilst I have credit it is asking me for card details I no longer have, There is money to be spent, any suggestions? Also am wanting to use itunes UK so have tried to set up a new account but inspite of putting in UK address it is identifying me as inithe US. Is this to do with the laptop I've brought with me?
In a roaming network, your "main" router is the device that would require port mapping/forwarding to be configured in order to access the IP camera from the Internet. This router is also the one that would be provide the private IP address for the camera which you will want to be a static one.
So as you described your network, the IP cameras should be getting an IP address or you assigned it a static one and this is the address that you would enter in the Private IP address (or equivalent depending on the router used) field when setting up port mapping.
If you are not able to access this camera from the local network, then this should be troubleshot first. -
My HP LaserJet P1505n, connected by Ethertnet to my LAN, has been working flawlessly for three years. The last time I turned it on, it could not get an IP address by DHCP. I verified this by printing a self test page. The IP adress is 0.0.0.0. I looked at the self test page from three years ago and saw that the IP address was 192.168.0.100.
No recent changes have been made to my network. I verified that the Ethernet cable and connection to my router were fine by switching Ethernet cables with a laptop. The laptop worked with both cables and connections while the printer failed to work with either configuration.
Any suggestions (besides trying to deal with HP support - a disaster) would be greatly appreciated.
This question was solved.
View Solution. What operating system do your computers use? This would be helpful to know if any steps needed to be performed from a computer.
When the Ethernet cable is connected to the router and the printer, do the network lights on both devices indicate a connection? If there is no connection detected, the lights (green and amber in most cases) on the Ethernet port on both ends will not be on.
What brand/model of router is being used?
When you swapped the cables, did you also change the ports they were connected to on the router? If not, try connecting the printer to a different port on the router. Did anything change?
EDIT:
Try disconnecting the power from the printer for one minute and then reconnect the power and turn it on (if it has not turned on automatically). Was there a change? This is known as a hard reset and it reinitializes the hardware and software in the printer which also forces it to try and establish a network connection again.

Cisco E1000 wont connect to internet anymore - not getting DHCP ip address from Comcast modem
Very strange issue...
I have Comcast HSI and have been using my Cisco (Linksys) E1000 for about 3 years now. Bought it as a refurb.
My issue is that the E1000 is NOT receiving the DHCP info from my Comast modem.
The internet works when my laptop is directly attached to the modem; but when connecting the modem internet port
to the E1000 internet port it is NOT grabbing my ISP DHCP ip address thus no clients can broswe 'wired or wireless'.
I even updated the firmware and am starting to think its time to get a 'BRAND NEW' router as this makes NO SENSE!
I cannot release/renew as i have NO ip address to release. I have even tried to configure the E1000 as a static
using the ipconfig/all from when the laptop and modem was connected. Comcast says they see nothing on their end.
I also factory defaulted the router and redid the config to no avail.
Any help would be appreciated.
Solved!
Go to Solution. You need to enable MAC address clone on the router to recognize the connection from your cable modem. The link below would tell you how to configure the router to work with a cable connection and how to do MAC address clone.

Cannot obtain DHCP IP address via ethernet for Airport Express running 7.6.4
Printer connected to LAN port on Airport Express running 7.6.4 cannot get IP address via DHCP. Airport Express is connected to an existing Wi-Fi network. Downgrading firmware version to 7.6.3 or lower resolves the issue. 100% reproducible. Tried this with 2 Airport Express devices and both had the same issue. Printer is a Star Micronics TSP 100 (point of sale receipt printer). This printer is used by almost all iPad based POS systems. It is affecting business operations.
Well I solved my own problem and it was working fine for months until Yosemite came along....
To tether my iPhone USB connection to an Airport Express Base Station (AEBS)- i did the following
1. Connect iPhone and turn on Personal Hotspot using USB
2. Going to System Preferences on the Mac click on Network
3. Set up the Ethernet setting with a static IP - (manual)
Configure IPv4 Manually -
IP Address: 192.168.2.2
Subnet Mask: 255.255.0.0
Router: 192.168.2.1
Next step is to configure the AEBS
Start from fresh -
Create a New Network
Internet Settings set to :
Connect Using: Static
IPv4 Address: 192.168.2.3
Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
Router Address: 192.168.2.1
DNS Servers: 192.168.2.1
Then under the Network tab the router mode is set to DHCP and NAT
It worked beautifully until recently , after the upgrade to Yosemite it was working for about 1 month and then as of yesterday it stopped working.
I am not a networking guru and I am open to suggestions on a better setup. Has anyone got this setup working too? -
Wireless 2504,user not getting dhcp ip address
Hi i have configured wlc 2504 .in that i have configured two interfaces.one is guest, 2nd is internal user,
the pblm when user try to connect with that contain ssid user not getting ip address,
i have connected only one link between core to wlc on port 1.for guest interface i used port 4.but no physical link.
Please help thisThere are multiple ways how the clients can get their IP-address in a WLC deployment.
From the WLC-FAQ:
How does DHCP work with the WLC?
A. The WLC is designed to act as a DHCP relay agent to the external DHCP server and acts like a DHCP server to the client. This is the sequence of events that occurs:
Generally, WLAN is tied to an interface which is configured with a DHCP server.
When the WLC receives a DHCP request from the client on a WLAN, it relays the request to the DHCP server with its management IP address.
The WLC shows its Virtual IP address, which must be a non-routable address, usually configured as 1.1.1.1, as the DHCP server to the client.
The WLC forwards the DHCP reply from the DHCP server to the wireless client with its Virtual IP address.Note: You can also configure the WLC to act as a DHCP server. For more information on how to configure a WLC as a DHCP server, refer to the Configuring DHCP Scopes section of the document Cisco Wireless LAN Controller Configuration Guide Release 5.1.
If you want more in-depth information you should read "DHCP with the WLC":
