Hyper-V machine do not start

Dear All,
I have few Hyper-V VM's on my Laptop (OS windows 8) which were working fine for a very long time. Last March 2014 i saved all the VM's and since then I never started them.
During this time i ran couple of windows updates and restarted the machine. Last week i tried to start the saved VM's but they never get started. I don’t get any valuable or descriptive error except VM failed to starts the machine (Machine Id XXXXx). In
the event log i see timeout period for the thread.
Thinking the saved state is corrupted, deleted the saved state and tried to start it again , but still same issue.
Later i uninstalled the Hyper-V, rebooted the laptop and installed it again following a reboot. Tried to create a VM which was successfully created but that too never starts.
Googled the issue to find if someone has similar issue but so far there is no luck and issue is still wasting my time.
Can some please help me to resolve this or guide me to get more descriptive error?
Regards
Sufian

Hi ,
"interestingly the Hyper-V Manager console shows me the status starting and after some time it pops up
a message failed to start the VM. "
If the manager console prompts "reboot and select proper boot device " with no vhd file attached , you may try to create a new folder for storing VM's files .
Then try to use the command below to grant permission for VM :
icacls "foler path " /grant "NT VIRTUAL MACHINE\Virtual Machines":F /T
Hope it helps

  • Machine will not Start

Do I need a new computer and is all my data lost?  I have HP Pavilion D4100Y running XP-pro with the latest service packs.  It also has a dual RAID 0 hard drive setup.  A week ago when I went to boot it up Windows would not start.  The machine would go through its boot screen, windows would begin to start and then it would go back to its boot screen.  It just keep looking if I let it.  the machine would not start in Safe Mode or any of its variations.  I did some repeated memory test using Memtest version 4 and was getting some intermittent errors so I bought new memory.  That was not the problem but I am not getting any intermittent errors any more.  When I try to go into recovery mode (hitting F10) during boot up I get a blue screen lock up that gives a Stop 0x00000024 error and says NTFS.SYS address F6F1B857.  I have not checked to see if the address keeps changing.  The error also says “Disable or uninstall any antivirus, disk defrag or backup utilities. Check your drive configuration and check for any updated drivers.  Run CHKDSK /F to check for hard drive corruption and restart.”  This is all good advice if you can get your machine to run but when it won’t start this is all useless.
Needless to say I have a few questions. Where should I be looking and how can I fix the problem?  Assuming it is some kind of corruption or failure of the hard drive(s) how can I get the data off the hard drives?   I thought about just trying to let windows do a reformat and re-install but I am concerned about losing all the data on the drives.  I took one of the drives out thinking I could make it a slave and plug it into another machine but the cabling on these drives is different than what I have see in the past. I know AI can not be the only one who has ever had this problem. HELP....

That is an indication that your Hard Drive has directory damage. It will attempt a repair and then proceed. It would be prudent to use your Installer/Utilities DVD to explicitly Repair the Boot Drive:
Boot to the Installer/Utilities DVD, but do not Install.
Answer only the "what language" question and wait a quarter minute for the MenuBar to be drawn.
Choose Disk Utility off the Utilities Menu
Select your Boot drive by Hardware_name. Check the lower right of the pane for SMART Status = Verified.
( Repair Disk ) This takes several minutes. If any issues, run again until clean, or hopelessly stuck.
Report any error messages, word-for-word, back here.

    Hi user,
As long as youhave access to the linux sever from your windows server, you're good to go. Open your admin tool, go to File --> Open --> Offline.
The Open window pops up. On the "File Name" field, enter the path of rpd file in the linux server (Ex: \\Server_Name\local\MyRpd.rpd). Select the file, and voilà!
    I hope this helps.

  • Installed windows 10 hyper-v windows will not start

I went into the control panel on Windows 10 and enabled Hyper-V,  Now the machine will not boot.  Any ideas?

    1. Which build you have installed ? 10041 or 10049.
    2. If it is 10049.................
Hyper-V won't work if you try to install Hyper-V
    AFTER 10049 was installed.
Hyper-V will continue to work if you already have Hyper-V
    BEFORE 10049 was installed.
    Excerpt :
UPDATE: You cannot enable Hyper-V on this build. If you have Hyper-V already enabled and you upgrade to this build, Hyper-V will continue to work.
    http://blogs.windows.com/bloggingwindows/2015/03/30/windows-10-technical-preview-build-10049-now-available/
    A workaround:
If you were on 10041 before, revert back to 10041. Install Hyper-V , then upgrade back to 10049.

  • Hyper-V virtual machines may not start, and receive the error: Microsoft Emulated IDE Controller (Instance ID {83F8638B-8DCA-4152-9EDA-2CA8B33039B4}): Failed to Power on

I have used the Article ID: 2249906 to try and resove this error. It only started since I have created a dediacted SQL 2008 Server on the network. This is my attempt, so far using icacls:
icacls "C:\Users\Public\Documents\Hyper-V\Virtual hard disks\XYZ-SQL.vhd" /grant "NT VIRTUAL MACHINE
    \13101CB0-271Z-4434-9736-E1DE331D316BZ":F
NT VIRTUAL MACHINE\13101CB0-271Z-4434-9736-E1DE331D316BZ: No mapping between account names and security
IDs was done.Successfully processed 0 files; Failed processing 1 files
Any ideas as this is becoming very disruptive to the network as the VM is a DC.
    Many Thanks
    Paul.B

From your description it sounds as if you have two VMs trying to use the exact same virtual disk.  And this is not possible without using differencing disks in between.  (it will give the error you describe when trying to power on the second).
Beyond that, I would have expected the configuraiton change to work.  Another possibility is simply creating a new VM using the existing virutal disk.  This is non-descructive as well and absolutely re-creates all of the VM objects and generates
    new security identifiers.
If that does not work, then there is more to this puzzle than has been mentioned here and you will need to provide greater detail.

  • Hyper-V manager will not start after power outage and memory corruption

We suffered a 2 hour power outage and upon power restoration I had a corrupted memory strip. replaced memory and cannot start Hyper-V manager due to lost mmc file or does not exist. virtual machines are running fine I just can't manage or create any additional.
This is on win server 2012.
    Anybody....Please Help!!!@!@!

    Try:
    Add-WindowsFeature -Name Hyper-V-Tools
This installs the Hyper-V Manager GUI tool only.
If that does not repair it, try:
    Remove-WindowsFeature -Name Hyper-V-Tools
    Add-WindowsFeature -Name Hyper-V-Tools

  • A disk in the DVD drive causes a crash, machine will not start

I have a fairly bizarre problem, searched, didn't find it in here so... maybe I am special. Anyway. I have a 2.4ghz MBP with 4GB of memory. I got it in November (with Leopard). It has worked without an issue until I started tonight to give bootcamp a go on it.
    Symptoms:
    - Leopard boots up fine, logged in, nothing else open
    - Insert any disk (DVD, CD-R)
    - Leopard crashes
    - continues to cycle through a restart but it keeps crashing waits 1 min, restarts, repeat
    - Even tried a Leopard disk
    Tried:
    - disk utility to look at things
    - can't load anything to check the hardware cause its cd based
What I did before it started going nuts?
I used bootcamp to partition the drive. This worked fine. Stuck the XP disk in and it read it fine. Machine rebooted to install XP, this was fine. Things went well until the XP install asked for a reboot. Then it restarts, disk failure. I eject disk and select OS X. Off we go, things are good.
I delete partition thinking something got screwed up. Tried again. This time when I put the XP disk in the thing crashes while in Leopard.
While I have typed this my machine has restarted a dozen times on its own. It is kinda funny to watch but *** has happened to it? I can't even re-install Leopard... no drive.
The DVD drive does spin up but after a few seconds it crashes. Any ideas out there?

    Maybe related...
Bought a 2.6G MBP yesterday, brought it home, booted up, everything great until I started loading my apps---CDs/DVDs would spin and spin, then eject---then Install Disc 1 froze the system. Can't eject the disc---onboard fans racing like jet engines and the keyboard area near the screen seemed very hot. Posted last night---someone thinks either bad optical drive or motherboard. About to go see a Genius now. For $3K+, this pretty much *****.

  • My Time Machine will not start up.

It is a model A1254. The light will come on and then go out with no start. Then when I plug it in again there is no light and again nothing. Maybe it's burnt up inside? It there a fuse I can replace? If the drive inside is OK can I take it out and use it in an enclosure?

They are absolutely classic symptoms of dead power supply.. there is no fuse.. the capacitors in the power supply are dead.. dead dead dead..
    See https://sites.google.com/site/lapastenague/a-deconstruction-of-routers-and-modem s/apple-time-capsule-repair/apple-time-capsule-repair-type2
Or just do a google search.. dead time capsule.. the wonder is.. you have lasted near to or more than 5years.
Yes, you can remove the drive and use it in a holder.
    http://www.ifixit.com/Device/Apple_Time_Capsule
Do not forget that drive is 5years old.. recovery of files great.. but be very cautious to trust an old supply.. although I do have to say the 1TB hitachi are excellent.

  • Time Machine will not start (code -43)

After getting a new 1TB external usb drive and changing format for use with time machine the program no longer launches producing unexpected error (code -43) instead. I had hoped to have three of four partitions on this drive for use with old windows machines as well as my mac. There are quite a few code 43's reported here with no definitive answer as to what it means. As i want to use the external drive as storage and not just backup will time machine be happy sharing the drive (if it ever works). Can I have one partition for time machine and others for various uses on the same drive.
After seeing the quantity of posts here I am a little worried about using TM, but I have also read reports of it's greatness and even a major reason to upgrade to Leopard. Any help would be much appreciated.

Can't help with the TM stuff, but the error is:
    fnfErr = -43, /*File not found*/
As to which file, I haven't a clue. However, TM help does have this:
+You can use Time Machine with FireWire disks, USB disks, and Time Capsule. The disk used for backing up must be in *Mac OS Extended (Journaled) format, and must have Access Control Lists (ACLs) enabled*.+
This appears to preclude using it with windoze boxes; i.e., formated as FAT-32 or NTFS,

  • New Hyper-V machine will not install guest OS from ISO image. Your PC ran into a problem.....

Thanks for any help in advance....
Here's the scenario.  I have a new Dell PE R630.  2012 Standard R2, fresh install.  All drivers and updates are installed.  When booting a newly created VM from an ISO of 2012 R2 Standard, attempting to install the OS on the VM,
I get the blue screen of "Your PC has run into a problem" screen.  It just loops over and over again.
I've tried Generation 1 VM and Generation 2 VM.  I've disabled Secure Boot in "Bios" on the Generation 2 VM.  I've tried different ISO files.  I've tried disabling all integration services.  I've tried just about every single
settings change there is to try with the same result.
In the Bios of the hardware R630, I checked that Virtualization is enabled.  I looked for any other settings that could be off, but don't see anything out of the ordinary.
I don't know what else to try. Thanks to anyone with input.
    -Josh

    Hi Sir,
I would suggest you to  :
    1. check if there is any power saving mode was enabled on R630 BIOS .
    2. check hyper-v host "Power Options" selected "High performance" .
    3. please try to disable " NUMA spanning " in hyper-v settings .
Then install OS for VM again .
In addition , please check hyper-v host's event log to see if there's any error recorded :
    "event viewer / applications and services logs / microsoft /windows / hyper-v* "
