HYper V Machine selection in a pool

Guys,
I am looking for some advise. I am trying to figure out how Hyper V is selecting which VM to give to a user when they log onto a collection. We have a managed pool across several Hyper hosts.

What kind of virtual desktop collection type do you use, personal or pooled?
With personal virtual desktop type, you need to assign a VM to a domain user manually.
With pooled virtual desktop type, VMs are assigned randomly by the RD virtualization host server.

First , I would to say the VHD size can be expanded but can not be reduced .
I assume that you want to reduce the dynamic VHD size on disk .
As a workaround , please try the following steps :
1. defrage the disk inside the VM OS .
2. shutdown the VM then
compact the VHD file of that VM .
3. start up the VM
4. in that VM open disk management , right click the Volume and select "shrink Volume"
(after "shrink " , the unallocated space equals to the space you want to reduce )

The first important thing to consider here is that Apple does not support Time Machine backups to a drive at the USB port on the AirPort Extreme, so that may likely have something to do with your difficulties.
If you want to continue to try this, the drive must be formatted in Mac OS Extended (Journaled) and you almost always have to use a powered USB hub with a drive at the port of the Extreme...even if the hard drive has its own power supply....because the port on the Extreme is under powered.
Most users who try this unsupported method have corruption difficulties sooner or later, but we do hear from some users who seem to be able to make it work.
The bottom line is that there is no support from Apple on this if you have difficulties, so you may want to consider a secondary backup plan for your important data.

I have a laptop with dual boot on two Windows 8.1 OS.
I have Hyper-V on both Windows 8.1 installation. One boot for work and other for personal use.
But sometime i need to work in my hyper-v machine in the both Windows 8.1 installation.
It is possible du share hyper-v machine between the OS ? Is not very useful to export or copy the vm each time i need to boot in my other Windows 8.1.

Yes, you can do that, but ...
You would need to create two VMs, one in the Server and one in the Client. But they could point to the same directory - make another partition on your laptop that has the same drive letter on both platforms. You would actually share just the
VHDX file. You might be able to import in place on one platform after creating the VM on the other platform, but I think it would be safer to simply have new VM definitions on each system.

Decrease the Hyper-V machine Size

The host machine is running on Windows Server 2012 STD. and two Hyper-v machine running with dynamic HDD. one hyper-v machine HDD size increase as because of so many file copy in the hyper-v machine. and now i delete this file. But HDD hype-v machine size
not reduce. So, how can i reduce the Hyper-v machine size. on that Hyper-v machine Exchange 2010SP3 running. the physical HDD getting space low. So, need to reduce the Hyper-v machine size.

I would suggest you try to shutdown the VM and backup it , then you may try to copy the vhd and AVHD to large enough disk space to merge snapshot for test .

Can a Hyper-V machine be made slower and/or emulate a slow network connection?

need to reproduce an issue with a client-server asynchronous communication (a bunch of JavaScript AJAX vs. an OData api), seemingly caused by some race condition in the calculations when the server and/or the network connection
slow down.
Now, the test environment I have is a local Hyper-V machine, so it's all shiny and fast ... I need it to slow
down to verify it.
Is there any known method to (basically) make a LAN Hyper-V machine to behave like a remote server reached though a crawling internet connection ?

The best method I have found for simulating a crapy internet connection is to put a pfsense router between the server and my test PC and setup the Limiter features.https://doc.pfsense.org/index.php/Traffic_Shaping_Guide#Limiter
This can be used to emulate a slow network, latency or even introduce packet loss to see how your applications react to adverse network conditions.
pfsense can run inside a hyperv virtual machine. So you can set it up then change the webserver network settings to be behind pfsense.

Hyper-V machine do not start

Dear All,
I have few Hyper-V VM's on my Laptop (OS windows 8) which were working fine for a very long time. Last March 2014 i saved all the VM's and since then I never started them.
During this time i ran couple of windows updates and restarted the machine. Last week i tried to start the saved VM's but they never get started. I don’t get any valuable or descriptive error except VM failed to starts the machine (Machine Id XXXXx). In
the event log i see timeout period for the thread.
Thinking the saved state is corrupted, deleted the saved state and tried to start it again , but still same issue.
Later i uninstalled the Hyper-V, rebooted the laptop and installed it again following a reboot. Tried to create a VM which was successfully created but that too never starts.
Googled the issue to find if someone has similar issue but so far there is no luck and issue is still wasting my time.
Can some please help me to resolve this or guide me to get more descriptive error?

If the manager console prompts "reboot and select proper boot device " with no vhd file attached , you may try to create a new folder for storing VM's files .
Then try to use the command below to grant permission for VM :
icacls "foler path " /grant "NT VIRTUAL MACHINE\Virtual Machines":F /T

Problems with Hyper-V machine management

Hello i am having a problem with my server 2008 hyper-v server. I have 2 virtual server on the hyperv, one is SBS2008 virtual server and the other is terminal server. ive had power failure a couple of days ago and from then i cant set anything on my VMs...My
VMs actually work when i restart the host server but then i cant do anything accept turning off the machine. The host server is in a domain of the sbs2008.
When i click settings on the machine i just get an error:
Cannot access the settings for the selected virtual machine.

I checked event viewer and i got this error:
Event ID: 14050
Source: Hyper-V-VMMS
Failed to register service principal name.
I tried restarting the host server it didnt helped. For my TS server i created a new VM and on that vm everything works normal, but i cant delete the old VM because i got the same error as mentioned above. Did somebody had the same problem?

First I would suggest you to check if the DNS setting is correct (it should be the DC's IP address)
Then please try to use Local Administraotr account to log in hyper-v host then try to delete that VM .

I upgraded to Mountain Lion and now I'm having trouble with Time Machine. It appears that since the upgrade Time Machine is not recognizing the external hard drive. When I go to Time Machine and select Disk for the current HD I am left with one of two options: "cancel" or "remove Disk." I am worried that I will loss my backups.

Is this a usb drive?
It will probably never recognise that drive ever again.. Mountain Lion has this little bug where it cannot recognise some USB drives.. I don't understand it.. but it just happened to me and a quick google shows it is not uncommon.
Your backups are not lost.. they are just not accessible.. you need to plug the drive into a computer with a better.. older OS. Find a new USB drive that Mountain Lion can actually read.. and even write to.. and copy the files across.

HT3275 Can I do a custom restore to a new hard drive using time machine selecting only what I want to migrate?

Yes. Partition and format the new drive, then install Mountain Lion from scratch. When finished you can restore what you want, manually, from your Time Machine backup.
Install or Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion from Scratch
Be sure you backup your files to an external drive or second internal drive because the following procedure will remove everything from the hard drive.
Boot to the Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
Erase the hard drive:
1. Select Disk Utility from the main menu and click on the Continue button.
2. After DU loads select your startup volume (usually Macintosh HD) from the
      left side list. Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
3. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Optionally, click on
        the Security button and set the Zero Data option to one-pass. Click on
      the Erase button and wait until the process has completed.
4. Quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall Lion: Select Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion and click on the Install button.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible
            because it is three times faster than wireless.

We’re in the process of building a new Hyper-V environment, and the interesting question has arisen once again.
Is there any way to compartmentalize all resources in a host or a cluster? For instance, create resource aggregations as direct children of the host or cluster and configure them and then delegate control over these entities to other individuals
or organizations?
VMware is using “resource pool” concept for the same purpose (illustrated above), but as far as I know Hyper-V “resource pools” aren’t the same, being used mostly for billing purposes.
Is the SCVMM with its “private cloud” mechanism the last resort? Or may be I’m looking in
wrong direction here?

I am guessing that you are looking at the vCenter 'application' container - a grouping of VMs into something like a folder.
Hyper-V by itself does not have this. And Hyper-V resource pools are used for many things, most of which are not end user exposed.
SCVMM has something similar called a "Service" - but a Service in SCVMM is leaps beyond the vCenter application grouping. As it is all about application lifecycle, not just a grouping.
But, SCVMM does support Tags. And Tags can be used as filters in the SCVMM console. But this is not tied to security.
So, in a nutshell, is there a quick equal? no.
Can a folder be created in SCVMM under Host groups and security applied? Yes
Can a cloud be created in SCVMM and security applied? yes
Whether you use Host Groups or Clouds depends on how much control of the physical infrastructure do you want to expose to these users. Clouds implies no control of physical resources, only control of the VMs running on capacity. Host Groups implies
some control of physical resources.

Make fields invisible based on selection in module pool screen

I have a several fields in my module pool screen.
There i have a box called Ref Obj.
Inside the box i have fields a b c d e f.
suppose my input has parameter 1.
I need to show only fielda a and b inside the box
suppose my input has parameter 2.
I need to show only fielda c and d inside the box
suppose my input has parameter 3.
I need to show only fielda e and f inside the box
suppose my input has parameter 4.
I should not show any fields and box should be invisible.
I would appreciate if any one could help me regarding this

How to remove symbol of line selection in module pool

Hello Experts,
I am working on a module pool where I have created a line selection.
In this line selection when we click on the order number I have made a coding where it call new transaction.
But I dont want the default symbol which comes during line selection..the magnifying type symbol.
How can I delete this symbol.
My coding is:

High Memory consumed when Dynamic memory is Enabled in Hyper-V Machine

I have created a VM using Hyper-V with Enabling Dynamic Memory option on a 2012R2 server machine.
After creating the VM I see that the memory consumption of the VM machine as 85%.
Would like to know if any efficient way to use "Enable Dynamic Memory" option while configuring the VM so that the memory consumption will be reduced.

As others have said it depends on the application being used. Also how do you have your guests configured with Startup memory, minimum memory and maximum memory? If your application is poorly written and has a memory leak, you will see dynamic memory just
grow. If the application is just heavy because of traffic or caching it will use lots of memory.
Example for me is a web application that is proprietary. during no usage it might be using roughly 400 MB on the server, but then when it gets used it will grow. I've seen some webservers hit 10 GB as for other ones grow maybe to a meg. After things calm
down a bit I notice memory returns back down to a 400 MB to 700 MB level. That is just how my application is and how i serve it up to customers. I had to track all that stuff prior. You can use Microsoft MAP to help with your dynamic memory settings.
For SQL server it can be done as well, but as Darren said before you might not want to do it. In my environment i do it, but I have tweaked things to work for me. Example is tweaking database memory usage to match startup memory OS it appears static, but
then leaving dynamic for processes that fire outside of SQL server. Here is a
guide for SQL server and dynamic memory.
