Hyper-V, RDC, UAC and Ctrl Alt End

Greetings,
Got a new computer running Win8.1 Pro. Still adjusting to Win8.1, but thought I'd give Hyper-V a spin so I can "replace" another system that I need to use for remote access to a client system. Be nice to just have one computer to do all my work.
I've been using two systems to get my work done due to VPN conflicts - my primary work system connects me to work using one vendor's VPN, the remote client system uses a different VPN, and when I've worked on getting the VPNs to place nice together I have
had little success.
So I've been using two different, older and lower powered computers to get this done, but now I was thinking I could use Hyper-V to create a VM for accessing my remote client using their VPN without losing my work VPN connection.
I've got the VM setup and configured, running Win7 Pro (because that's the other license I've got), and the VPN installed on it. I can connect to my work VPN, spin up the VM and connect to the client with their VPN, and RDC to the servers I need to work
on when I need to work on them. Works great, right up to the point where the client UAC requires Admin elevation for the MMC (or other management type program). Up pops the box that says Press Ctrl-Alt-End to use my entered credentials, which have admin rights,
to pass the creds on to the program.
I can't figure out how to get Ctrl-Alt-End to the RDC dialog!
I'm opening Hyper-V manager, then connecting to the VM on my computer. From the Virtual Machine Connection window, log into the client VPN, fire up RDC and connect to the server (logging in to their domain, etc.). I try to load the program on the client
server in RDC, the UAC pops up, and - nothing. Hitting Ctrl-Alt-End on my keyboard brings up the lock screen on the Hyper-V connection, it doesn't pass it through to the active RDC session. I've loaded the onscreen keyboard on the remote server, clicked Ctrl
Alt End, but that doesn't seem to pass into the UAC.
I've thought - maybe I should configure my VM for remote access, then I can RDC to the VM, then RDC to the client's server, then... but... would that work?
Suggestions?
Thanks,
Steven

Greetings, Thanks for the reply. I'm not trying to use Ctrl-Alt-Del to clear anything, I'm not trying to use Ctrl-Alt-Del at all. Here's what I'm attempting:
Fire up a VM, log into the VM, run the customer's VPN
RDC to the customer's server
Run the management app on the customer's server that needs elevated privileges
In the RDC session to the customer's server:
I get a UAC dialog, asking if "I want to complete this action by entering my credentials on the authentic Windows logon screen" or "I don't want to complete this action"
I click the first option ("I want to complete...")
I get a second UAC dialog saying "Press Control+Alt+End" to enter your credentials"
I'm not able to press Control+Alt+End and have it go to the server in the RDC session, the VM is capturing it first; I HAVE tried it using the onscreen keyboard in the RDC session also without success
(I took screen caps of the dialogs, but, I've pulled an all-nighter working on another issue and couldn't seem to figure out how to insert them here... doh!)
So - no Ctrl-Alt-Del
Next time I need to get to the client's server I'll have to check the settings for keyboard shortcut forwarding. Thanks for the suggestion.

  • RDP and JAVA (SLOW ON TYPING AND SCREEN BUILD)-CTRL-ALT-END-ESC speeds up

Any news what's the problem in a 2003 environment?
Only after using the CTRL-ALT-END-ESC combination things are speeding up.
We've got following installed on the server:
    JNLP Runtime Setiings
    1.3.1_19
    1.5.0_06
Both enabled and 1.5.0_06 is enabled as system.
Tried different combination and this seems to be the fastest, but still not good enough,if you launch it locally on theserver, it goes very fast,so it has someting to do with RDP,
    Any help?

What's the problem with what? 'It' being what? and RDP having what to do with it?

  • Ctrl-alt-end on mac keyboard

Our system at work uses WIndows XP and I can now use Remote Office to get on the system from home. Previously, I had to run Parallels Desktop for windows. Now, I can run it from Safari, except to begin the login process, I must hit the combination of keys "Ctrl-Alt-END" I have looked at discussions and they say end is accessed using the command key and the left or right arrow. No luck with that.
Do I hit the control key, alt key, command key and right arrow at once? I tried that and it didn't work. Parallels for Windows has a virtual Windows keyboard, but there doesn't seem to be the same WIndows keyboard on Mac OS. Help!!

the options key on the mac keyboard should map to the windows alt key, so the key command should be control-options-end.
You should be able to enable "Remote Access" on the windows XP machine (get properties on My Computer and enable it in the "Remote" tab). Then download Microsoft's "Remote Desktop Connection" software and connect to your work PC by entering it's IP address.

  • [SOLVED] Ctrl+Alt+S and Ctrl+Alt+O Blocked by ?

    Hi!
On a new arch+gnome system, I cannot bind any command to the Ctrl+Alt+O and Ctrl+Alt+S shortcuts in pycharm.
Going through all the shortcuts in gnomes' Keyboard > Shortcuts and via dconf-editor, I cannot find any program that binds to these shortcuts.
    Any advice?

    When using xbindkeys -k , I get this for ctrl+alt+s or ctrl+alt+o:
    "(Scheme function)"
    m:0xc + c:64
    Control+Alt + Alt_L
Which is very strange, because it does work correctly for other shortcuts, for example, ctrl+alt+a:
    "(Scheme function)"
    m:0xc + c:38
    Control+Alt + a

  • Ctrl+Alt+End in Remote Desktop Running Windows XP with VMWare Fusion

I am using remote desktop on Windows XP in a VMWare virtual machine on my MacBook Pro. When the remote computer I'm connecting to times out and locks the screen, I need to send ctrlaltend to get back to the login dialog to unlock the screen (ctrlaltdel gets processed by the local windows box and never passed through so ctrlaltend is the appropriate sequence in remote desktop). Only one problem ... my MacBook Pro keyboard doesn't have an End key (or any other key that maps to it as far as I can tell) ... neither does the bluetooth wireless keyboard I use. So how do I send ctrlaltend? Anybody else run into this and find a satisfactory solution short of disconnecting remote desktop and logging in all over again?

That's weird.. I use RDC on my Vista's VM all the time and Ive never encountered this issue.
Try running the RDC in full screen, so that the Ctrl-Alt-Del will go to the RDC.
You can close the RDC window, and change the Options "Send Windows Combination Key" either to the RDC or the VM, or while the RDC in full screen.

  • Nitro3 kernel and menuconfig and ctrl+alt+fX problem

Hi, im having the stranges occurrences.
I tried 2 use this PKGBUILD of nitro in here http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php? … ight=nitro, but changed the nitrover = 3.
it downloaded fine, and it goes to the choice menu :
==> How do you want to configure the kernel:
    ==> ----------------------------------------
    ==> (for ArchLinux defaults, use 'not_at_all (1)')
    ==>
    1) not_at_all
    2) menuconfig
    3) xconfig
    4) oldconfig
    5) config
when i choose '2', it goes into menuconfig ok, but once i get there, the only keys i can use is enter and esc. when i press the arrow keys to try to move, it already ask you if you want to save the config. I find this very strange since I compiled nitro2 thru menuconfig the last time and it operated normally.
Since menuconfig is out of wack, i tried xconfig, and it operated normally. But strange thing is that after it starts compiling, in the middle of the compliation, i get this error :
    if [ -r System.map ]; then /sbin/depmod -ae -F System.map -b /var/abs/local/kernel26/pkg -r 2.6.9-nitro3-ARCH; fi
WARNING: /var/abs/local/kernel26/pkg/lib/modules/2.6.9-nitro3-ARCH/kernel/drivers/video/vesafb-tng.ko needs unknown symbol vesafb_setup
./PKGBUILD: line 133: cd: /var/abs/local/kernel26/pkg/lib/modules/2.6.9-nitro3: No such file or directory
    ==> ERROR: Build Failed. Aborting...
which I am stoked as what it means.
I am also having problem with switching to console mode after I have started X, like startx or startxfce4.  It seems that after it's started I can't switch back to console thru ctrl+alt+f3.
    thanks
    dammit

    If so, try `chvt 7`.
Also: you don't need to apologize for your English.
'chvt 7' likes Ctrl+Alt+F7, it draws a black full screen (but I can switch to tty1 again by Ctrl+Alt+F1) Also when I logout from xfce, xdm doesn't "appear" -  a black full screen
Thank you anyway. Other suggestion ?

  • MS-RDP to vDesktop - ctrl-alt-delete

This is cute, right ctrl-alt-delete doesn't work, insert-alt-delete (like vmware) doesnt work...the local (laptop or desktop) always responds.
How do you get the ctrl-alt-delete to be sent to a MS-RDP window to login to an virtual XP machine.
Does this normally work? What am I missing?
    sorry for the dumb question.
    ron

    OK, now what...
ctrl-alt-end works when you are sitting on a hardware computer, using MS-RDP to get to a VM. cltrl-alt-end gets the attention of the VM in MS-RDP.
So, then, once I login to the VM, I want to MS-RDP to another computer...how do I get the attention of that computer...
    ctrl-alt-delete - first machine
ctrl-alt-end - second machine from the first machine
???-???-??? - third machine from the second machine

  • When I close firefox with ctrl-alt-delete, I want to start over on Firefox, I usually do this when too many tabs and windows are open. However, Firefox always restores the tabs and windows I previously had. How can I stop that from happening?

This happens when FireFox is not responding, and I want to close firefox with ctrl-alt-delete. Too many tabs can make Firefox crash. That is why I want to use ctrl-alt-delete to close FireFox. I tried finding a way to disable this, but I found no option to.

Ending the Firefox program or process with the Windows Task Manager "looks like" a crash. The proper way to exit Firefox is click Firefox button > Exit (or File > Exit, if using the Menu Bar).

  • Firefox freezes about five seconds after I open it, and whenever I use Ctrl+alt+delete to close it I get told that it is waiting for a response from me.

I am having a problem with Firefox. Whenever I open it, it runs fine for about five seconds and then freezes. A small white rectangle appears in the upper left corner of the browser window. The screen still scrolls fine, but whenever I try clicking on anything (including the menus in the toolbar), it just gives me an unresponsive 'ding' sound. When I try closing the programme with Ctrl+alt+delete, I get a message saying 'The system cannot end this programme as it is waiting for a response from you'. I originally had this problem with an earlier version of Firefox and tried installing Firefox 4 to see if this helped. It worked for two days and began doing it again. I have already tried un- and re-installing Firefox and restarting my computer, and Firefox will not run properly for long enough to let me disable any add-ons or plug-ins. What can I do to fix this?
I've added a couple of screencaps of the problem. (or tried to)

  • Ctrl-Alt-Backspace issue with Fluxbox and SLiM

    Hi folks :)
I'm pretty new to Arch, had a few attempts at installing it in the past but wasn't quite ready and so decided to expand my Linux knowledge a little more, first. Well, I've done that and now I'm having another go, and things are going quite well. However, I have one minor problem. In ~/.xinitrc, I have the line 'exec startfluxbox' to start Fluxbox and do everything that is contained within the ever-so-handy 'startfluxbox' file. That works perfectly. However, if I restart X by pressing the Ctrl-Alt-Backspace combination, I'm sent to the command line rather than SLiM. However, if I replace 'exec startfluxbox' with 'exec fluxbox' it works fine and brings me straight back to the SLiM login window. Of course, I then can't make use of the 'startfluxbox' file.
Could anybody shed some light on why this might be happening? I know it's more than likely going to be something simple that I've missed, but any help would be appreciated. :)
    Thanks,
    Joel.

And using fluxbox instead of startfluxbox still works? Strange.
I had the same problem as well with slim and Xfce (sometimes SLiM would respawn after some minutes if I logged out normally), and ended up just giving up on SLiM.
I'll give it a try with my openbox-setup (should be similar enough to the fluxbox way).
What happens if you log out of your session instead of killing the xserver?
You could always give some other login manager a try, kdm/gdm or qingy if you want things lite.
[edit: I tried it, SLiM works fine with openbox-session. It needs rather a lot of time to start up after booting but that might have something to do with me having backgrounded daemons rather indiscriminately.
Probably a stupid idea, but have you tried waiting a bit? As I've mentioned, sometimes SLiM took a few minutes to respawn due to some bug or other.
