Hyper-V Survey: Why do you turn VMs off?

First, why is the survey closed befor it was opened. Or has MS invented a time machine. :-)
Secondly, the survey does not really ask why we shut down VMs. Lots of there great questions, just not that one. :-)
Finally, an interesting survey and I hope MS will publish the findings here.

Hyper-V Survey: Why do you turn VMs off?
We have a survey up asking for information about why and when you need to turn virtual machines off with Hyper-V.
You can go and fill it out here: http://www.instant.ly/s/9qQwF/?s=ba
Please note, we will be taking feedback for a week (this will be shutting it down on end of day Tuesday next week - June 21st 2015).

  • Can you turn on/off aliases wih iCloud

With iCloud can you turn on/off email aliases you have created in .mac and mobileme?
If you can't, can you delete the aliases in iCloud that you cannnot now delete in mobileme?

You can handle aliases in exactly the same way as on MobileMe except that you are allowed only three (though if when you migrate you have four or five you won't lose any of them).

  • How do you turn Stocks off in iOS 8.2?

For some reason Stocks doesn't appear in the Notification Centre settings for me anymore in iOS 8.2, since I updated.
How do you turn it off now? It's kinda annoying seeing it in my notification centre all the time...

Pull down the window then scroll to the very bottom. You will see an "Edit" button. Click on that to customize the view.

  • Apple TV, how do you turn it off?

When done with Apple TV, how do you turn it off?

Closest to Off is "Standby" which I beleive you'll find at the end of the Settings Menu OR the Settings > General Menu.
You can also set it to auto Sleep at a small interval ( I think 15 mins is the shortest ) which does the same thing automatically.
By the by, It's worth familiarizing yourself with the Settings menu since there are many options there of interest.

  • The player is always on (even if you turn it off

Hi, I've noticed that if you turn it off the new zen and then you listen to the headphones you hear always something that is "frying".. Anybody got the same problem?
Then it's weird also that everytime you connect the headphones to it, it flashes..
I think that we should deconnect the headphones when we don't use to avoid these problems.
What do you think about it's

I have been moaning about this for a while now ..... but Creative don't seem to be listening ?When you shut down the player it goes into 'standby' mode and continues to consume power. This means that if you use the player for a couple of hours a day you will get less than 8 hours of music playback from a full charge. It also doesn't make a difference whether you disconnect the headphones as others have suggested. Creative decided that the player startup time was more important than battery life for a 'normal' user. I would have liked to have had the choice.

  • Unplanned automatic failover using Hyper-v Replica , why don't the VMs start up automatically on the replica server?

    Hi,
We have cluster with two hosts (Host01 , host02) replicated to another server (Replica01)
in order to test automatic failover to the replica server  (Replica01) We unplugged the power cables from Host01 and Host 02
now the VMs on the replica server is still off  , why don't the VMs start up  automatically on the replica server?
    Ramy Shaker

overall there is no automatic failover in Hyper-V
Of course there is. It's enabled by Failover Clustering. This is a totally separate technology from Hyper-V Replica.
There is no automatic start up in Hyper-V Replica because it is not designed to detect a split-brain condition where the same virtual machine is running in multiple locations simultaneously. The replica site has no way to know why it can't reach the primary
system anymore. It might just be because someone unplugged a network cable. If the primary's virtual machines are still running and the replica decides to spin up its copies, you will have many troubles.

  • Why does bluetooth turn itself off?

A new game that was purchased for my iPad mini requires bluetooth. But after a certain amount of time, the game cannot find the accessory. I go back to the settings, and find that bluetooth has turned itself off.

    hi Apfelwurm,
why do you say it's not normal.

i never use bluetooth and make sure it's not on for any other reason.
it's been noticed by others too.

  • I tried to use Battery updater and it failed, now it starts up on my computer boot up evrytime and fails everytime, how do you turn it off or get it to work?

I tried to use the Battery updater software on my Powerbook G4 and it didn't work, now it starts up on my computer startup everytime, how do you get it to work or turn it off?

It's possible that your model PowerBook doesn't need the updater.
Did Software Update offer you the Updater, or did you download it from Apple? This article"

  • Can you turn isight off?

i have the built in isight on my macbook, and am trying to import digital video into imovie, but when i click the button to connect to the camera, it just turns on isight and asks me if i want to record with isight.
is there a way to turn isight off? i havnt found a control panel for the camera.

    Hello djbolt,
    Seems simple enough:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=302503
"To turn off the built-in iSight camera, just close the active iChat window. The green LED next to the camera will go dark, indicating that the built-in iSight camera is off and no longer capturing video."
Not having a built-in iSight, I couldn't test this out, but I suspect you all have tried that and after repairing permissions, etc, are probably still going to tell me that you can't mount another DV camcorder?
Let me know or maybe someone else will be by with a better suggestion.
    Respectfully,

  • Private Browsing: when you turn it off, How are files deleted?  Shredded?

When you turn off private browsing in Safari, are the history etc files just deleted? Or are they shredded/overwritten?
    I have v2.0.4
    Thanks.

    Hi again William!
There is a tempory tracking of certain items...but when you quit Safari they're gone. Of course that's what you trying to figure out is how they are removed. I really can't answer that...but as a general rule whenever I've used private browsing and come back to Safari later after a restart there is no trace of data. If you want to be extra sure you can always reset Safari after using it. There is a folder Safari in your Users/Library/Caches folder...you can make a few tests if you like and monitor when something is added to it or not. But again my experience is reliable when coming to private browsing and resetting of Safari...for what it's worth!

  • Mac Mail Conversations - Can you turn it off for a Specific Email address?

In Mac Mail 6.2, is there a way to leave "Conversations" ON as a default, but turn it off in regards to a certain email address?
    Example:
I resell printing and have multiple receipts coming from one supplier(One Email address and the same Subject Line). My problem is it is grouping those receipts into the same conversation, but each of these should be seperate because they are for more than one customer.
Any help would be great. Thanks

Not exactly, but the following workaround might be useful to you:
    * Create a new mail folder (either in an IMAP account or in "On My Mac").
    * Set that set conversations off for that mail folder.
    * Create a mail rule to move messages from your problem supplier to that folder.
Downside: You have to remember to check that other folder.
If it is important to you that the messages be available in the unified Inbox, you might be able to do something similar with a separate mail account.

  • Why does it turn itself off!!!!

I have had my blackberry for about three weeks.  It sucks.  I have to charge it nearly everyday.  It seems the battery runs down just after some texting and some phone calls.  But the most annoying thing is, it turns itself off!  It is incredibly frustrating, I don't know what its doing.  Can anyone help?

ANY smartphone, including the BB will run down its battery with bad software running on it.  In fact, in extreme cases the battery and other circuits can overheat, the phone then shuts down to save its circuits and reboots.
Longevity of the battery is based on the phone "resting" while waiting for IO.  Literally between key strokes, the processor is powering down to conserve the battery.
Any software that doesn't enter this wait state can drain the battery in minutes.  Examples are programs with lots of constantly changing graphics, badly written programs that loop internally instead of using a timer, web pages with poorly defined java script.   So ... be conservative about the software you use.   Anything with a lot of extra animation is going to be a battery hog.   Any program that too frequently checks back with an external server also will use up a lot of battery.   Using a setting that allows for too frequent checks, bad idea.
If you have a CDMA service such as Verizon then you should also update the PRL regularly.  For Verizon this is done by calling *228 and entering option 2.  I've noticed that some Verizon stores provide the phone without actually doing this and this will very likely lead to the exact problems people are describing.    Following this process once a month or any time you make a change to another region of the country is a very good idea.
Another thing is that if you ran down your battery without first charging it up all the way (such as when you first got it) you have probably damaged the battery.  This too is true for all Lithium Ion batteries.  I might add that periodically draining the battery on purpose is a good idea for other types of batteries BUT NOT for LiOn ones such as most cell phones use.  Doing this will also shorten the batteries life.
I do these things and I have not had any reboot or battery drain problems at all.   My phone goes all day with many emails and a couple of phone calls and is not even down 1/2 of its battery.  I might add that I've had a number of other smart phone type cell phones and folks have the same complaints about them for the same reasons.
